9/19: Can “Idol” finally beat “Amazing Race” for Emmy? Daughtry sued

emmy.jpg

On Sunday, “American Idol” is up against “The Amazing Race” for best reality program Emmy for the sixth year in a row. Every year, “The Amazing Race” has won.

The Emmy voters base their votes in part on the episode that is submitted. “Idol” gave the finale, which was pretty good. There was the battle between the two Davids and solid performances featuring ZZ Top, Donna Summer, the Jonas Brothers and Carrie Underwood. The LA Times notes that the one problem was a lengthy, painful promo for the summer film “The Love Guru,” which bombed soon after.

“Amazing Race” used the episode where the two Goth kids are eliminated. Honestly, the show is an incredible feat in terms of editing, pacing and logistics. I enjoy it every year (except when they did a family edition and stayed mostly stateside.) I can’t blame the Emmy voters for voting it year in and year out.

I’ll be blogging Sunday night for the TV/radio blog and may include a notation about this competition as well.

-The band Asphalt has sued Daughtry, claiming his song “Feels Like Tonight” sounds suspiciously like the act’s song “Tonight.” You can hear Asphalt’s song here on its MySpace page..

Want to hear the Daughtry song to refresh your memory? It’s here.

Personally, I don’t see much resemblance. The opening riff has some vague similarities. The chorus? There’s a slight echo effect there, but the fact of the matter is, a lot of pop songs sound similar. Is it close enough for Asphalt to win? I don’t know. I’m not a legal expert.

What do you think?

The most famous one that lost was George Harrison with “My Sweet Lord” sounding a lot like “He’s So Fine.” Harrison actually lost. Here’s a summary of that case.

-Ryan Seacrest won a prestigious radio award called the Marconi for best major market personality, heard on KIIS-FM and now syndicated.

-You gotta love David Archuleta and his MySpace blogs ha ha:

Hey guys! It’s me yet again. I got a chance to go back to utah for a few days to record and had such a great time being home! The whole family was finally able to all hang out and spend time together, and went out to eat haha. I didn’t really have time to hang out with anyone else since we did a lot of music with some cool people based in Utah, but I’m glad there was time for family. Family’s first so that was important to get in haha. Anyway I’m in Detroit right in the dressing room for a Ford executive event that Cook and I are performing at, and it should be fun. I need to get going now but just wanted to check in while I had a chance. Take care.

IMO, I think Amazing Race will win over Idol. That’s just a gut feeling that I have.

Good to know that DA is getting some home time to spend with his familty and friends.

As far as Daughtry being sued, that is the nature of the music business, or any other business. Trademarks are always being accused of being copied. True or not, heaven only knows.

Thanks Rodney for answering my question about Carrie’s biggest hit. I appreciate it.

Hi y’all….

Well, I love all the Carrie news, Rodney, and thanks for sharing that concert. It made me a fan. Bigger fan, anyway. :)

Kellie is such a riot. I love her personality and will try to watch her…if I’m near a TV.

Archie, Archie, Archie….I actually wasn’t a big fan, but Crush is sort of growing on me. David Cook needs a new single to cure me of that. ;)

Nana, good luck with your test results! GAGirl hope your relative is getting better….everyone else, have a great and safe day.

Oh, and Flats: “GOOOOOOO, Dawgs!” LOL

May I just start my post with GO DAWGS!!! Sic’em! WOOF WOOF WOOF!!!

Everyone has little idiosyncrisies in their writing style. I tend to do this a lot…instead of completing a though. I see that Archie likes to use haha a lot (and not LOL, so I appreciate that). I am glad he got to spend time at home - gotta be good for the teenager to get some family time in!

I think that the Amazing Race will win. That show is just, well, amazing in all that it does with it comes to producing and editing.

Happy Friday all! Have a wonderful weekend!!!

KF - Thanks for the good luck. I appreciate it.

I also wish a speedy recovery to GAgirl’s relative.

Harm: long since we have heard from you. How is the daughter and grandbaby? Didn’t you say her due date was in January?

I will say well wishes to anyone who needs them for whatever reason.

Idol is a talent show. Maybe watch a few of the stinkeroos aht the beginning. Maybe watch the the last 5 minutes of the weekly “Cut” show. Probably watch the last two episodes - on Tivo, so I can buzz through dead spots.

I truly don’t understand the appeal of The Amazing Race at all. Petty, crappy people. Its neither engaging nor entertaining. I’d rather watch tennis - and I hate to watch tennis.

Rodney, having listened to the two songs, i don’t see that much similarity either; i think that Asphalt will have a hard row to hoe to prove that Daughtry “stole” from them. His song is BETTER, anyway!!! that’s probably why they are going after him, they know they’ll never make as big a hit - IMHO of course.

i’d have to get the lyrics and compare them for content as well as listen to the “melody” (i don’t feel the Asphalt song HAS much of one, but daughtry’s DOES)… hopefully they will have a “loser pays” judge so that if they lose the case, they have to reimburse Daughtry his legal fees!!! If i were him, i’d at least ask my attorney to do a “frivolous lawsuit” letter to the Asphalt attorney, to put them on notice that if they can’t prove it, they’ll be obligated to pay!

I also don’t think the Asphalt and Daughtry song sound enough alike for Asphalt to win. Yes, the intro sounds a little bit like Daughtry’s, but just because they both say “Feels Like Tonight” doesn’t mean Daughtry stole the song. It doesn’t sound the same. JMHO.

Sounds like TiredofIt may need an infusion of iron or some sort of pepper-upper. Of ALL the “reality” shows, Amazing Race is the only one to me that is in any way “real” … the people go to real places and do real things, unlike the survivor BS which always seems so staged the few times i’ve watched, anyway; and the big brother and gag bachelor/ette shows which are just gawdawfully demeaning are in no way “reality” … on Amazing Race at least they are relying on their own skill/ability/creativity/flexibility etc. to achieve a specific goal, and not for the most part dissing their rivals, but just trying to do it best and first. i don’t watch ANY of them often but if i’m going to watch one, it’s usually AR.

As for the “reality” talent shows, i like ‘em all — i hate the audition parts especially with the no-good-niks who just want their 15 SECONDS of fame, but i enjoy seeing people use talents to try to better themselves, whether it’s singing or dancing or “novelty” acts as they put it on America’s Got Talent.

Both shows (and most all “reality” TV) is “sheeple-bait” & mindless fluff used to lull the populace into a catatonic state as the Globalist Elite leverage their puppets on “Crapitol sHill” to implement their agenda. Americans ingest a steady diet of TV, video games, iPods, etc., while our Constitutional Republic is being dismantled. Turn off the boob-tube & crack a book!

SaveOur: Do you mean to say that you do NOT watch any TV show? I read 2 -3 books a week and still see some reality shows and quite enjoy them. You know a person can do both. You sound as if you a axe to grind. Hopefully, that is not the case, but hon, just chill. All is well.

Nana, I tried to post yesterday and earlier this evening, but for some reason my posts are not going through. It is a conspiracy, the blog is eating my posts, they keep disappering into thin air or maybe I’m being censored.

My daughter is doing fine, due 1-1-09,having a boy. My daughter is claiming that her son has black hair(it is going to be hilarious if he doesn’t). I hope she has the 1st baby of the New Year and gets all the prizes.

Well, I am about to hit the post button again, lets see what happens!

That post went through finally.

Catch up time.

Has anyone heard from War Eagle lately? His 1st grand child is due sometime this month, also a boy.

I agreed with the top 5 on AGT.

I think I may be in need of some of that B-12 inwhich you speak, please advise.

I hope all of you bloggers and your loved ones are doing well and GAgirl please keep us updated on your relatives condition. My cousin is still in the hospital, some say they don’t think he will ever leave(he can’t do any thing on his own) I don’t pretend to know his prognosis, afterall he wasn’t supposed to survive.

Hey D, and Harm and my other blog pals. The War Eagle on other blogs is not me. Just another Auburn fan. My grandson was born on Aug. 31. Everyone is healthy and well. I wouldn’t abandon this blog. I’ve made some real good blog friends here. I just can’t abuse my computer privileges at work anymore. I am actually expected to do my job now. What’s this world coming to?

The Amazing race has always been one of my favorite reality shows and one of the extremely few that I watch, I do not watch Idol because the few times I’ve watched, it bored me but I do like some of the singers that have come from Idol like Daughtry. I will admit The Amazing race hasn’t been the same since the hippies won a few seasons back - can’t remember how many - but they are the only ones that went through the entire race actually living in every moment and not just saying how pretty something was as they zoomed by. They enjoyed themselves and it was the one season the ones that truly enjoyed every moment with no arguing between them won even when at times it seemed they might be running into problems but they always rolled with it and it worked. But the bottom line is Idol is always the same ole, same ole while The Amazing Race always has new, different, odd, and exciting things for the couples to do and go.
