9/30: Michael Johns in Australia, Kellie Pickler’s CD is out today!

Here’s former Buckhead man Michael Johns promoting himself in his native land of Australia on Nova 96.9 by singing a bluesy tune “Fool’s Gold” likely to end up on the new album. He compares it to Van Morrison/Joe Cocker meets INXS. Good tune!

bilde.jpeg

-Both Jennifer Hudson and Kellie Pickler have albums out today. Who will outsell who? It’s going to be close! I bet both will sell in the 50,000 range. Reviews for Kellie’s disc aren’t bad.

Detroit News:: Kellie Pickler’s second album is another solid step toward country stardom.

Here’s Canadian Press

With “Kellie Pickler,” her second CD, she improves at crafting songs that express her natural exuberance, and the emotional depth behind it.

USA Today: Kellie Pickler, “like Dolly Parton or Judy Holliday in Born Yesterday, loves to set up stereotypes only to confound them,” says an impressed Brian Mansfield.

LA Times (2.5 stars:) The standout is “Best Days of Your Life,” which she wrote with 18-year-old Taylor Swift, who sings harmonies too, taunting an ex about how he’ll regret leaving soon enough.

-Quick observations from “Dancing With the Stars.” Openly gay Lance Bass kisses Lacey Schwimmer, who dance to that ode to experimental lesbianism “I Kissed a Girl.” Rocco Dispirito needs to go back to cooking cos he wasn’t cooking on the dance floor. Toni Braxton is a comer. She could land top 4 easily. Kim Kardashian? Eye candy but her dance steps are robotic and simplistic. Pussycat DULL. Misty May-Treanor: Intensity squared! Could use more emotional expression on the face. Cloris Leachman gets applause for simply being upright but she definitely plays a character well. Susan Lucci knows how to smolder after all those years on a soap, and wow, what a bod! She’s a bit cautious but she’s safe.

And I prefer happy Warren Sapp over the serious “Matrix” version tonight but he wasn’t half bad.

My prediction: Rocco is a goner. Cloris had the lowest judges’ score but who cares? She’ll get the votes for now.

-You can now download David Cook’s “Light On” via iTunes. Lara told me she heard Q100 play “Light On.” It should get some fair amount of sampling from top 40 stations and give “Crush” a run for its money!

Good Morning (I think). Hope you all had a good evening.

Good vid by Michael Johns, Rodney. I liked the bluesy type.

Warren Sapp was my fav from last night. I agree that Rocco needs to head out, as well as Cloris. We’ll find out tonight.

Time to hit the road. Catch y’ll later.

If Jennifer’s one of the big 4 as Rodney has stated, then 50k would seem far beneath Carrie/Kelly/Daughtry first week sales even taking into account sales declining and economic issues.

Morning!

I think Kellie will do better than Jennifer. Country music fans are loyal.

I just love Warren Sapp…not because he’s the best dancer but because he’s a hoot! He makes me smile.

CarryAnne said it best “Tons of FUN” that’s Warran Sapp! AND he dances amazingly well!!! I still love Lacey—the show could USE a bit of shaking up choreographically—and I’m a HUGE fan of the Schwimmer clan! By far not my favorite however. I think Sapp and Brooke are among my faves, and guys, I’m sorry, I’m willing to agree most of the time when you think someone is sexy, but Kimmie just does NOT spark any sense of fear that she’s too sexy in this gal’s heart. She’s STIFF and wooden, and i don’t mean she INSPIRES wood…i think you all are buying into a phony!!! ah well. that’s my opinion, and i’m sticking to it!

gotta run, see you guys at work!!!

I caught DWTS last night and really enjoyed seeing Lacey on there! i think she and Lance did a great job. Why is Kim K still there? She was AWFUL!!! But I guess not as bad as Rocco.

I did hear David Cook’s new one on Q100 yesterday afternoon. I think I will go home today and download it from iTunes.

Lara…I really like Cook’s single.

I also really liked Michael John’s song on the video. If he had stuck with music like that I think he would have stayed on Idol a lot longer.

Hi y’all…

I still need to go check out J Hud’s CD, but I did enjoy the lead single. (Spotlight, right?). I have checked out Kellie’s. It’s pretty good. I have to agree with the LA Times. I like Best Days of Your Life and Rocks Instead of Rice (She’s funny). I also like Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You even though that was already on her last one. (Are they pulling a KC with Beautiful Disaster? Just sayin’) BTW, Rodney, only 50k sales? That seems awfully low considering that even Jessica Simpson sold 64k her first week. ;)

Loved DTWS last night. Lacey and Lance are definitely into shaking things up. She better watch it before she turns into Grace (as in Will & Grace…)Kim K. - I was sooo bored. Sorry, boys. But she needs to go. Can we sell one more bad “ass”et to the govmt? I was impressed by Brooke (yet again), Misty May, and Toni. Seems to me that the women are stronger at least so far. We’ll see what Warren can do. I have hope he’ll do great.

Oh, I managed to catch Josh Gracin at the North Georgia State Fair. We were there for Lady Antebellum, but stated for his show. He sounded pretty good. Except the band was too loud and he sounded muffled quite a bit. I have to say that he was entertaining, even if over half of the audience left halfway through his set. I was pleasantly surprised and might even check out his CD.

Oh, also…I heard on the radio this morning that they are going to re-release Carrie’s Carnival Ride as a Wal-Mart exclusive and it will contain a Christmas bonus CD. It comes out Oct. 21st. I guess it’s a way to boost sales again. Here’s hoping the Christmas songs make it to iTunes.

Toni is pretty amazing that she’s able to do all that dancing and preparation/rehearsal. She has a heart condition (something-or-other angina) so it’s pretty cool that she’s doing this — i just hope she stays healthy and strong! And I too liked Misty-May… she’s no Laila Ali or MelB, but she fits well with Maks, for sure!!!

Just got to listen to MJ — if this is representative of his upcoming (February did he say??!!) CD, I WANT IT … my birthday is 2/1, so i’ll be telling hubby to get that one for me, i reckon! Yeah. I could listen to that for sure!

Maybe we should plan a get together for the beginning of the AI season? find a place to meet with food and big tv’s?

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

September 30, 2008 1:43 PM | Link to this

Lara … and willing to let us have AI on the screen, LOL!!!

I know some of us are way south of Atlanta, some of us are way east/northeast (i’m in Athens, for example), and unfortunately some of us are out-of-state. But i’d still love to set up a get-together somewhere; we’ve talked about it for years, it seems…

For those of you interested in “Little People, Big World”: the Roloff’s 100 lb turtle Ferdinand is missing. Come on up to Oregon and we can hunt us down some turtle.

I like turtles.

By Deirdre

September 30, 2008 2:50 PM | Link to this

I didn’t know the Roloff’s had a 100 lb turtle. I know they have a dog and a cat and roosters.

Heck…can I come to Oregon anyway…I hear it’s beautiful there.

If we’re going to meet for lunch or for the new season, let’s make sure there’s plenty of gas around. I didn’t see a single station with any gas in my travels today.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

September 30, 2008 2:55 PM | Link to this

oh yeah. maybe we need to figure out how to “teleconference” ourselves together for the season, LOL!!!

By Deirdre

September 30, 2008 3:04 PM | Link to this

Dang! I just posted on the wrong blog entry!

I’ll try again:

LOL!!! linny…unfortunately, my traveling around today involved taking mom for a doc appt. BUT….I can’t say I’m not enjoying my freedom. I don’t spend as much time at home as before…except if I’m low on gas. Hubby and I will even be going out to dinner tonight! :-)

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

September 30, 2008 3:20 PM | Link to this

LOL, I was going to say, that sounds (what I said) almost disrespectful; i know you love your mom and probably actually even miss her sometimes in your home; but you know (in case anyone wants to blast me) that what i meant was now that she’s in a nice apartment and you don’t have to be on call 24/7, you actually can do some things for yourself; i knew you’d still be spending time with her and helping her and driving her and stuff… in fact, i was thinking … “will D go visit Mom on Tuesday nights when AI starts back so they can watch it together?”

Hey, everyone. Have not been able to post today, as I am getting ready to leave for Chicago tomorrow morning and won’t be back until Sat. afternoon late. Hope not to miss tomorrow night’s AGT, for it is the last time to see Donald Braswell live. I have a feeling the strings guys will win, but surely am pulling for Donald. I have been listening to his old cd, which I bought from ITunes. The songs are:

Who Can I Turn To What Kind of Fool Am I Could It Be Magic The Summer Knows Where is Love Try to Remember Somewhere Theme from Love Story Panis Angelicus More If The Shadow of Your Smile

Just go ahead and call me obsessed!

Deirdre, you enjoy your freedom and go when you want (providing there is gas). You have earned the right to do whatever. I know that being the main caregiver of a parent, sibling, or whomever, is not an easy task. I did it for over three years for my oldest sister, plus worked full time. Not easy. Enjoy your date tonight with your hubby!!!!!!!

A get together sounds like alot of fun. Can’t wait.

Nearly time for me to call it a day and head home. As always, take care, be safe and drive careful. May your evening be filled with much love with family and friends.

Good Morning. Its Hump Day.

Sorry guys that the eye candy on DWTS is no longer present. She did deserve to get the boot. I was surprised that Rocco was safe as quick as he was. Now the eye candy for the ladies (Rocco), woohoo, yeah baby!!!!

JS has been mis-informed about her singing. Nope, don’t think she can. Don’t care for her at all. Alot of people do and that’s okay. She is just not a fave of mine.

Gotta get myself out the door and head to the office. Be safe and drive careful.

Morning!

Sorry to hear about your drive, Nana.

My condolences to JT, woodpappy and any others whose world was shattered last night by the removal of Kim Kardashian. Once again it has been proven that good dancing always trumps good butts!

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

October 1, 2008 9:36 AM | Link to this

yeah but guys, what good is a good butt if it can’t MOVE???? she’s so freaking STIFF!!! it’s the guy who’s supposed to be stiff NOT the girl!!!! [take that how you will!]

I tried. I honestly tried to listen to Jessica Simpson sing. But the girl has NO musicality!!! IF it were not for the band and backup singers, there would have been NOTHING there!!! she sings in one tone, whether it’s sharp or flat i couldn’t tell you but it AIN’T music!!! i know her looks have gotten her along but…a new CD? really? what a waste of materials!!!

Morning y’all…

LOL, D. Guess that now they’ve realized its a dancing competition, they may tune out? ;) Sorry, guys, but Kim was Bo-ring….

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

October 1, 2008 10:14 AM | Link to this

kf, that’s my feeling about her. “cold as siberia” was really descriptive to me. Like i said, what good is booty without the shake??? Now … Brooke Burke! kf, do you think she is sexy? i mean, she seems like she is, from my perspective ~¿@

anywho, Warren Sapp seems to me to be the one to beat — i thought he’d look silly doing the Paso Doble but… uh uh, he just looked .. er … manly :-)

Not sleek like Jason last season, but… he’s so freaking LIGHT on his feet!!!! and not at all afraid of moving all those pounds around the dance floor!!!

By Maryann

It won’t be a dancing competition until Cloris and Rocco are gone.

By JTesla

You people seem to be a little obsessed with a certain someone’s booty ;)

Linny, thanks to last night, there will be no more stiffness when it comes to DWTS (you brought up “stiff”). DWTS is over, might as well cancel it now.

By kellyfan

October 1, 2008 10:39 AM | Link to this

LOL, Linny…you’re too much. I do agree with Brooke Burke.

But I have to say my fave is Misty May (quite possibly because she’s with Maks…that’s just a great pairing), then Julianne and then Brooke. And it goes without saying that I still miss Edyta. ;)

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

October 1, 2008 10:41 AM | Link to this

It’s always that way, Maryann; there are some who stay a while because they are just plain ol’ entertaining, but definitely are NOT dancers. I personally really don’t LIKE Cloris Leachman. I know others find her amusing and funny and all, but I just find her tremendously annoying, LOL. Just MHO of course. In any event, it will be hard for them to equal last season’s competition, because there were such GOOD dancers. Same for SYTYCD — next season will be either incredibly fantastic, or a total bore, because the dancers this past season there were unbelievably talented.

AGT results tonight. If it’s NBS or Donald, I’ll be happy. If it’s Neil, Eli, or Queen, I’ll be ok with it, but not so happy. What an incredible group of finalists THAT is, eh?

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

October 1, 2008 10:44 AM | Link to this

LOL Kellyfan! My hubby says Edyta is just plain sexy from head to toe — every cell of her body is sexy to him. And I agree, Misty May is pretty incredible and Maks is the perfect partner for her (can you even imagine ANY of the other male pros with her? i can’t!) but i still see Laila Ali and MelB with him — he’s certainly perfect for the, shall we say, “amazonian” women!!!

By GAgirl

October 1, 2008 10:53 AM | Link to this

Morning All, I have to agree with Maryann’s comment. Can’t say I’m sorry to see Kim go. Still rooting for Brooke and Toni. I, too, miss seeing Edyta but keeping an eye on her “cutie” hubby, Alec.

By kellyfan

October 1, 2008 10:57 AM | Link to this

HA, Linny, your husband’s is a smart man. “Amazonian” (lol). That’s a good way of putting it. I’d go with athletic, which I swear, I’m not trying to live to the stereotype. :) But I definitely can’t see her with any of the other guys.

Oh, and I skipped talking about Jessica’s “singing” because while it wasn’t bad, her facial expressions made it seem like she was in some sort of pain…. ;)

BTW did anyone else noticed that Pasha (SYTYCD) was the pro dancing during JS first song? He was one of my faves… Finally, is it me or is Cheryl looking um, a little different these days?

Thanks for including this video of Michael Johns from a performance on Sydney radio. We heard a lot of this acoustic music while he was here in Australia & it sounded sooo good. I met him outside of morning TV show & he is very humble & such a gentleman. He did an unbelievable performance of an INXS song at a Perth’s Telethon event . Check it out on [michaeljohnsonline.com.] His single is coming out in November & album in February, so why don’t you do yourself a favour & buy one. It is going to be unbelievable!!!
