10/8: Taylor Hicks to release new indie album in early 2009
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Taylor Hicks, dumped by J Records earlier this year, is set to release a new album via the indie route in February, 2009.
Hicks, going on a national tour of “Grease” to sing “Beauty School Dropout” as Teen Angel starting December 2, will be releasing the still-untitled album through the indie company Artist to Market with an assist from his own label, Modern Whomp Records, to “connect more directly with audiences,” according to [E! online.]http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b32785idolstaylorhicksgoes_indie.html)
Tommy Lee, Dolly Parton and Sinead O’Connor have used Artist to Market.
-Jennifer Hudson sold a very solid 225,000 copies of her album “Spotlight” her first week, more than Jordin Sparks did her first week and quite respectable, according to hitsdailydouble. Billboard and SoundScan report 217,000. She came in No. 2 behind Atlanta’s T.I.
-David Archuleta has signed with Azoff Management but his dad Jeff will be comanager. Azoff also reps the Eagles, Christina Aguilera and Neil Diamond, according to [ew.com]http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/10/david-archuleta.html?xid=rss-hollywoodinsider-20081007-David%20Archuleta%20signs%20with%20Azoff%20Management). 19 Entertainment passed on him, as it did on several other runners up. As MJ noted, 19 Entertainment no longer reps any runners up.
-Elliott Yamin, who sold more than 50,000 copies of his Christmas EP last year at Target, is tilling that field again with “My Kind of Holiday,” which is basically a fatter version of the Target release. And this one’s available everywhere.

Taylor who?
I’m a bit surprised with 19 Entertainment passing on David, sure there have been some turkeys who came in #2, but David has a rabid fan base - he reminds me of Clay in that regard. I know what the “I will love him forever” group will say, but what do the normal people think?

“Jennifer Hudson sold a very solid 225,000 copies of her album “Spotlight” her first week, more than Jordin Sparks did her first week and quite respectable, according to hitsdailydouble.”
Jordin is disadvantaged here as the writer’s strike limited the shows available for her to promote her cd upon release. No late night shows to perform on hurt sales.
David A should benefit from different management as 19 has been shortsighted, neglectful, or incompetent in boosting careers of runner-ups. See Justin, Diana, Kat, Blake, and musically Bo.

Morning!(I’m trying this again as my first effort didn’t post)
I’m glad to hear that Taylor is still plugging away. Although he was the last AI winner I EVER expected to see on Broadway.
Thank goodness we have another thread!

What did the guitarist do when his teacher told him to turn his amplifier on? He caressed it softly and told it that he loved it.
Good morning blogsters! Happy Hump day to you all. Just one more day in the work week for me. I am heading to Memphis this weekend!

Amen to that, Woodpappy and D! Whew! Glad that other one is gone. Amazing what venom folks hold in their hearts. Anyway, it’s a brand-new day, thankfully.

Since yesterday was such a heated day on here, I thought I would start your day with a smile on your face, a song in your heart and a tap in your toes.
Innocence is Priceless
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names and small American flags mounted on both sides. The six year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the Pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and quietly said, “Good Morning Alex.” Alex replied, “Good morning Pastor,” still focusing on the plaque. “Pastor what is this?” The Pastor said, “Well son, it’s a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service.” Soberly, they both just stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Alex’s voice, barely audible and trembling with fear asked, “Which service, the 8:30 or the 10:45?”
Enjoy your day.

happy rainy mornin’ to you all… yeah, i agree, nice to have a new thread to post on (whew) .. wasn’t at all sure we’d make it through that one.
DWTS last night, nope, not ONE itty bitty word about how Ms. Hudson got her initial exposure to the world of show biz. Silly attitude in my opinion, whether its from the artist herself or from ABC management, to TOTALLY ignore the elephant in the room …. NO, i DON’T mean Jennifer, LOL, I mean “American Idol” beginnings. Or for that matter, Lacey’s SYTYCD initial mass media exposure. Would Lacey have made it to the position of “pro” on DWTS if she HADN’T been seen on SYTYCD? Would Jennifer have made it to an Oscar if she HADN’T been seen on SYTYCD? It’s part of their history and i think ignoring it is just… well… silly.
anywho, i figured no one would go home, but i LOVE that the votes DO count and we know who was in the bottom, although it SHOULD have been Cloris or Rocco. Gimme a freaking BREAK here, Cloris is getting to be a little TOO much to be entertaining…
oh well, what do I know, eh?

I know that it has to do with talent and looks, but I’ve always wondered what makes some of the AI finalists soar after the show (Carrie) and then others like Hicks barely get noticed…Just a thought.

I agree that Cloris is alittle to much. While I admire her efforts at her age (hope that I can dance at age 82), I think the novelity act has worn thinned and the dances are going to just get harder for her. I have always liked her in movies and TV and thought she was a good comedian, but IMO, don’t think she can continue to endure the vigorous practices and hetic schedule. This is not an easy task even for the young ones. I say the best performance last night, was Kool and the Gang. Ya lotta love that group.
Are any of you suprised that daddy Archetta is co-manager of David? I think we all saw that coming.

LOL Nana, no, Archie’s management is no surprise. He’ll probably be 50 before he gets a chance to do it for himself… anything for himself…

Sorry flats, was I supposed to respond? I was so busy googling pictures of his ex-girlfriend that I forgot.
Back on topic, who buys Christmas CD’s these days? I’m not talking about real Christmas CD’s like Burl Ives and Bing Crosby, I mean who would buy a CD of songs that aren’t Christmas classics? Elliott sold over 50,000, that’s great, but do these 50,000 people really not have two or three CD’s with Gene Autry already? Stop the madness you’re not going to improve it spend your time on something else.
