10/17: Simon Cowell fed Nikki McKibbon’s depression with his remarks, that mean, mean man!

Nikki McKibbin said Simon Cowell’s negative comments toward her during the first season of “Idol” fueled her low self esteem and “drove me deeper into depression,” she told US magazine

McKibbin is talking in advance of her show I wrote about a couple days ago, “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” on VH1, which debuts October 23.

“We were heavily chaperoned, but I would buy vodka and sneak it into the refrigerator on the bottom floor,” McKibbin tells Us. “If I wasn’t too exhausted, I’d have one or two drinks.”

Here’s a quick weekly rundown in sales and radio airplay:

  • Jordin Sparks saw his “One Step at a Time” drop from 4 to 6 on the Radio & Records top 40 chart. Download sales: 43K, 833K total (courtesy of Idol Chatter). Her album sold another 5K and 932K total. Like I said, this album may have trouble hitting 1 million unless she gets a fourth single aboard and I’m not sure if anything else on the album is top 40 worthy. We’ll see.

-David Archuleta’s “Crush” is stalling out a bit, holding at 15. It’s also No. 15 on the download chart with 60K sold and 694K total.

-David Cook saw his single “Time of My Life” hold at No. 38, an impressively slow fall off. It sold 13K downloads and 946K total. It should hit million downloads within a month or so. “Light On” fell sharply on the download chart, selling 31K and 140K total.

-Daughtry sees his “What About Now” slip from 19 to 20. Looks like it has peaked. Downloads sales are stuck 17K (409K total.)

-Carrie Underwood moves up to No. 3 with “Just a Dream” and has a shot to be her seventh No. 1 single. Incredible, eh? Download sales: 20K for week, 270K total. Album sales are down to 8K and 2.37 million total.

-Bucky Covington keeps edging up with “I’ll Walk” to 16 after 25 weeks. He sold 5K in downloads and 77K total.

-Kellie Pickler saw a major dropoff in sales of her album week two to 16K from 43K. Her single “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” takes a jump from 25 to 21 after 21 weeks on the chart and 8K in sales on the download chart for 103K total.

-Jennifer Hudson watched sales of her album drop 71 percent week two to 63K and 280K total. “Spotlight” hits the top 5 of the urban chart and remains at No. 1 on urban AC for her third week. It sells 25K on the downloads chart and 202K total.

We did it…..We did it - Made it…. to Friday!!!! WooHoo.

So Simon is the culprit, huh? Is he the scapegoat in the infractions in the lives of some past and present idols? Yeah right. When are people going to take responsibilty for their actions? Come on, give me a freakin break here. Do not put the blame on innocent people for ones own stupidity. Simon nor anyone put a gun to Nikki’s head and forced her to be an addict. She made the choice on her own accord and let her deal with the consequences and admit her her own error in judgement. Blaming others for your own failure is not dealing with the problem, but trying to pass the blame. Grow up and admit that YOU screwed up.

Interesting, I wouldn’t pick vodka to be my first drink. Oh wait, maybe she had a problem BEFORE she met Simon and she had already started down that path. Simon’s comments… please. That’s the music industry.

In essence, I agree with Nana and Deirdre.

LOL. Hi Laura, Deirdre, JT, Nana — i’m in agreement; while it’s fine to explore the REASONS you do things, it’s just so lame to find EXCUSES … “the devil made me do it” … yeah. right. “Simon picked on me”… “my momma made me stand in the corner”… “i didn’t have [X} growing up so i was deprived and became depressed”… yada yada yada.

sheesh.

how about those Red Sox last night?!?!? I went out with hubby at 9, score was 5-0 Rays… got home about 11ish, score was 7-6 rays in the 8th! good grief!!! It’s a hard series for me to root for anyone, because i love the underdog (Rays) but have been a BoSox fan for years. I kinda would like to see Tampa Bay take the series ultimately, but certainly don’t mind the Sox making it exciting!!!

JT, who’re the Ducks playing this weekend?

By JTesla

October 17, 2008 4:25 PM | Link to this

It doens’t look like they play this week. On the 25th they go to Arizona State.

And, because I know everyone really wants to know this information, the Blazers have a preseason game against Sacramento on the 20th.

JT, I like my seasons, and it is waaay too soon, IMO, for bball. In fact, I have a problem with the baseball season going into November, too. I like them tidy, but who asked me? LOL! Dawgs get LSU next week, but my gamecocks play them on ESPN Sat. nite at 8 EST. Go get’em gamecocks! I gotta run for now. Hope everyone’s team wins.

I just watched American Idol Rewind and got reminded of how nice a guy George Huff is.

I was surprised we didn’t get to hear Jasmine Trias sing. I’m not disappointed, just surprised.

I forgot how smoky Camile Velasco’s voice was….very nice although I hated her audition song.

Diana did a bang up job with Chain of Fools. I have to say I agreed with the “too perky” comments but, she was 16!!!! 16 year olds are always either too perky or too sullen.

Happy Monday Morning Bloggers!!!!!

Hope ya’ll had a great weekend. I spend mine down at Dad’s and ended up putting up a bushel of pear preserves. Got him out of the hospital Friday evening and Saturday AM a member of his church brought over the pears, so I had the honor of making the preserves for him.

Time to head out, so ya’ll be safe and drive careful.

Morning!

Mr Hollywood went to a fancy-schmancy party this weekend. got his picture taken on the red carpet…then said the photog looked at him as if to say “Who the hell are YOU” :-) Hey! It’s a start! :-)

I missed the Falcons this weekend but enjoyed college football even though Tech and UGA played pretty sloppy games. At least they both won.

By harrietth

October 20, 2008 8:31 AM | Link to this

Hey, D, but at least Tech beat Clemson and that’s enough for this gamecock! Of course, my gamecocks lost, but played a close game. Did the Falcons play?

Hey D, you didn’t miss the Falcons…they were on a bye week. Can’t wait for the next opponent. Maybe this Falcons team is just gonna keep getting better. I sure hope so.

Glad you all had good weekends, mine was relatively quiet (since i stayed hidden at home while the partiers partied! just had to pick up litter on sunday from my front yard, as usual.

Ah don’ get no respect!!!!

By Deirdre

Woodpappy…I meant I missed them because they weren’t playing…”missed” in the sense that I longed for them rather than “missed” in the sense that I accidentally didn’t see them. :-) I can see where that was confusing.

Okay, I’m gonna veer off FBall for now and say a big congrats to the Tampa Rays. I hope they end the world series with the big win and beat out the Phillys. What a game they played yesterday. Only saw part of it, but wished I could have seen it all. That’s my sport imput for the day.

Also, congrats to all the winning Georgia teams.

Returning…however briefly, to the subject of this blog…did anyone else see American Idol Rewind this week? I commented on the show at 7:20 last night. I’m glad they’re moving a little faster this season. Also glad that they haven’t stopped the present day interviews with some of the contestants. It’s nice to see some of them all grown up. I was NOT impressed with Diana’s look for the interview. She needs a hairdo that goes with her very round face…what she’s doing isn’t working. I think she’d look great in a pixie type cut.

By Nana

October 20, 2008 11:51 AM | Link to this

I know the series has got to be a huge money making event, so it will most likely go the full seven games.

By JTesla

October 20, 2008 12:04 PM | Link to this

Deirdre, I didn’t watch it, but I agree with you regarding the present day interviews. That is really the only thing that catches my attention on Rewind. I know Diana has had issues with selecting the right hair or clothes in the past, but we have to be careful not to stir up the rabid Diana fans.

By Deirdre

October 20, 2008 12:29 PM | Link to this

Not trying to stir the pot, JT…I like Diana and her voice. I just think her hair needs a little work. :-)

I really enjoy the present day interviews. There’s a show on the Fox Reality channel that does interviews with the current contestants shortly after the season and it is really interesting to hear their perspective on events that happened during the show. If Idol wants us to get more involved they should use those interviews instead of the “Who’s your hero” type crap.

By harrietth

October 20, 2008 1:45 PM | Link to this

D, I startd watching, but something came along to take my attention elsewhere. I had to leave at the time they were going to feature Wm. Hung. But, as for George Huff, I loved him. He and Ricky Smith from the second year were two of my all-time favorites that didn’t make the final two or three.

Sorry for the belated blog entry but a new one is up with fresh info. And I’ve been lame about taping “American Idol Rewind.” I missed the Atlanta auditions, caught the William Hung portion last night. When I saw him last year, I noted how much weight he had gained and he hasn’t lost it based on the 2008 interviews. Poor guy.
