For 2008: More Tyler Perry and Atlanta-made horror

If current release strategy holds the first three months of 2008 will see the debut of three made-in-Atlanta movies, including Tyler Perry’s next stage-to-screen comedy “Meet the Browns” featuring the versatile filmmaker as his popular character Madea.

Here’s the month-by-month lineup:

Jan. 4 — “One Missed Call.” Based on a popular Asian film, this horror tale stars Edward Burns and Shannon Sossamon (in photo above) and involves people receiving odd cell phone calls in which they hear their own future deaths. The film was shot here in summer 2006.

Feb. 22 — “The Signal.” Bought earlier this year at Sundance by Magnolia Pictures, this inventive horror movie from Atlanta’s POP Films is divided into three sections, each helmed by a different director — David Bruckner, Dan Bush and Jacob Gentry. The story involves weird transmissions that turn people into killer zombies.

March 21 — “Meet the Browns.” Angela Bassett stars alongside Tyler Perry in the film version of his stage play. Perry plays both Madea and Uncle Joe and other stars include Irma P. Hall and Margaret Avery. Perry also directs and the film was shot in Chicago and Atlanta.

I’m looking forward to meet the browns. However, I hope it is revamped. The stage play was one of the worse in Tyler’s catalog. I’m sure He will be re-writing that entire script. Keep doing what you’re doing Tyler. God Bless

Is David Mann going to play the role of Mr. Brown?

Tyler’s movies are always better (and quite different) from his plays. I’m sure Meet the Browns will be better than the stage play.

I like Madea……but I must say I want to see something original for movie productions. Please Tyler venture out for ideas, for Madea, that can relate to today’s problems that could meet the needs of our youth, our dead beat Dads, etc….Keep the comedy going,as you produce. I am a fan, but everything is getting to be repetative.

I am a huge Tyler Perry fan and would love to see the movie version of “Meet the Browns, HOWEVER, I agree with J. Herm’s question…Is David Mann going to play Brown? I’m sorry but when David turns it on at the Funeral, that is the funniest scene throughout the entire play. For whatever reason Tyler does not use the play personalities in his movies, but David has to cut up in the movie version.
