Who has not yet seen the Batman?

By now, everybody’s seen “The Dark Knight.” Right?

After all, this week the Batman film surpassed “Star Wars” as the No. 2 box office film of all time in North America. (“Dark Knight” has taken in more than $473 million so far; “Star Wars” earned more than $460 million).

But, no. Last night, two guys near me at the bar in Wisteria talked about making plans to finally see “The Dark Knight.”

They also hadn’t seen “Tropic Thunder” or “Pineapple Express.”

How long does it take you to see the big movies? Do you always go on the first weekend … or to late-night opening screenings? Or do you wait for the DVD?

9 out of 10 times I will wait for the DVD. Movies are just too expensive anymore. I much prefer to watch them in my own home. I can pause, stop, rewind, etc…..

And I’m not all that into Batman movies.

Yea but DARK KNIGHT wasnt nearly as good as Star Wars.

In 1977 $460 million was worth alot more than it is now.

You cant even compare these two movies.

STAR WARS 1977 was a true Blockbuster Hit. Lines around the block for weeks.

BATMAN Dark Night was miseralbe and lame. It was popular only because of prior Batman movies. Wasnt good for children either.

If its a movie I’m super excited about(see: The Dark Knight, Iron Man) I’ll catch a midnight premiere. In those cases, the atmosphere and excitement in the theater adds to my experience. If its a flick I have a strong interest in, I’ll catch it at the theater at some point (see: Tropic Thunder). A stoner comedy, even a very good one, is “view at home” for me and I’m not one who partakes… In sum, if I don’t have a strong interest in a film, I’m not going to see it at the theater.

I have not seen the movie, but would like to. I probably will wait for the DVD. Going to the movies has gotten so expensive. At home I can have munchies that don’t cost an arm and a leg. My sofa is more comfortable than theater seats. My home is not freezing. And, I like those subtitles.

Saw it the Friday it came out, I work up in Duluth and live downtown, and there is a nice theater near my job so instead of sitting in Friday traffic I alway catch the 4 o’clock show on Fridays. Better to sit through a good movie than sit through traffic. Though any time Tom Cruise was on the screen last friday in Tropic Thunder, I wanted to be in traffic, he just tried way too hard, enjoyed the rest of the movie though

I kinda saw it. Me and about a half-dozen screaming brats who had no business being in a movie theater at all, much less at this Batman.

So no, I didn’t really see it. I haven’t been back in a theater since either.

Haven’t seen it. I probably will eventually, because I liked Heath Ledger and have heard what a good performance he gave, but I’ve never been much into superhero movies. I saw three other movies within a month of TDK’s release, though: Wall-E, Mamma Mia!, and The X-Files. Enjoyed all three in very different ways. It was actually the first time in my life I’ve seen three movies in the theater in the same month!

I actually resent watching movies on DVD more than going to the movies. The movies are a fun social outing and an excuse to get out of the apartment.

You can’t get imax on DVD, so if you’re avoiding at least that screening of the Dark Knight, you’re missing out.

But who wants to see Tropic Thunder? I don’t know if it’s offensive to those with mental disabilities, but the clips related to that on NPR made it sound like a bad movie in any case.

These boxoffice stats are complete garbage unless you account for inflation. It cost over 3 times as much for a movie ticket now than in 1977.

I haven’t seen Dark Knight and I’ll wait for the DVD. I think Heath Ledger is an OK actor, nothing spectacular. And I feel like the Batman movies get progressively worse each time a new one comes out. But of course I will see it because I have seen every other one.
I did however see Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and cant’ wait to see The XFiles Movie, and probably might go to the theatre to see Pineapple Express, so that’s where I’ll spend my money.

Not I!!! Nor have I seen ‘Titanic’ or any films with Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon or Tim Robbins since they went political - and NEVER, EVER watched ANYTHING with Barbara Streisand in it!

The Dark Knight is an excellent movie; I saw it on its opening weekend. But I agree that you’ve got to look at the revenue in inflation-adjusted dollars. “Star Wars” sits above $1.2 billion in today’s money. That is well more than twice what ‘The Dark Knight’ has earned. Using inflation-adjusted numbers shows the real cultural impact of movies.

Haven’t seen it, won’t see it. I just don’t care at all about Batman. I grew up in the 70s so I got to see the old TV show and I have no love or hate for that show or the other shows or the movies. Batman Beyond was good, though. But nobody else liked it.

The main problem is the Batman concept is fairly predictable and boring unless some care is put into it. Batman Beyond broke the predictable part into a million pieces and it solidly worked. But these movies eschew that in favor of being familiar and so they end up as more of the same old same old Batman story. Look. It’s the joker. Again. Yawn.

Nothing about this movie interests me at all so I’m simply not going to pay to see it.

I’ll wait for video. The experience at movie theaters has become way to negative: high prices, sticky floors, jerks who talk through the movie, people who answer phone calls during the movie, and so on. Plus I can pause for bathroom breaks and snacks whenever I want to.

Personal Pet Peeve: even a modest home sound system sounds better than most movie theaters’ expensive system. Way too many theaters’ systems have been mishandled by idiots with no musical taste or knowledge of acoustics. They sound like loud, cheap, badly adjusted car stereos with treble that’ll pierce your ears for free.

That’ll show ‘em.

And yeah, they really should use ticket sales rather than $$$ to measure a movie’s success.

I think it is absurd to just jump up and go see these “Blockbuster” movies just because…I prefer to wait until they come on TV or DVD, at least. I might see an occasional movie at the theater, but it is more because I want to take my wife to the movies than because I want to see a particular movie. I think we place to much importance on being cool and doing all of the things that define cool, like catching ALL of the “Blockbuster” movies. In that regard, we most resemble sheep. Save your money.

Yeah, I’m gonna go see a movie in a crowd that won’t turn off their cell phones, talk through the entire movie, and other obnoxious behaviors…yeah right!

Or maybe I will change my schedule so I can avoid the above nimrods and see the buzz movie, because it’s a buzz movie I am supposed to see?????

Nah, I’ll wait for the DVD. Better manners at home, fresher popcorn, and beer in the fridge. Now, that’s entertainment.

Lemme just say that The Dark Knight is not your typical Batman. Heath Ledger’s Joker totally obliterated all thoughts and memories of Jack Nicholson’s. TDK is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. If you don’t see it in the theater, you’re really missing out. But man, I can’t wait to see the outtakes.
