V-103’s Miss Sophia In New Tyler Perry Film
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In a minute, Atlanta entertainment mogul Tyler Perry might as well just set up a camera in V-103’s Colony Square studios.
First Perry had the top-rated station’s morning co-announcers — Frank Ski and Wanda Smith — in his most recent blockbuster, “Madea Goes To Jail.” Now, their show’s entertainment reporter - Miss Sophia - has announced that “she” will be in his latest stage play-turned-movie, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.”
“Of course I’m excited,” the “Girl Talk” reporter said shortly after telling listeners about her movie debut, this morning. “But I’m more excited for the fans of Miss Sophia who’ve come up to me for a long time and said me and Tyler need to do something together Well now it’s finally happening.”
Miss Sophia (pictured above, right, with Smith) has been cast as an emcee in a club, and said she is scheduled to start filming her part in the local production in late April. Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson, “Stomp The Yard’s” Brian White, “CSI: Miami’s” Adam Rodriguez, R&B singers Gladys Knight and Mary J. Blige and gospel singer and pastor Marvin Winans are also in “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.”
Along with — Ski added on the air — his wife Tanya (pictured with him above) and their sons.
Did you catch Ski and Smith in “Madea Goes To Jail”? Are you one of those fans who’ve wanted to see Miss Sophia on the wide screen?

I’m happy for Miss Sophia. Its good that film producers and others are taking heed to another genre of individuals who are full of talent in this world. I think Miss Sophia is hilarious and will be excellent in the movie. To Penny, if you watch the Frank & Wanda show at night, you’ll see that Miss Sophia looks FAB on the screen ! !
Congrats Miss Sophia, keep the HATERS at a distance so you can stomp all over them in the end.

I rarely if ever look at the show on television but I took a look last night (no real reason) and Sophia’s makeup was the ‘ish.
If she’d stop rolling the ‘3’ after the entertainment report, I stop turning off the radio…lol. That annoys me.
Congratulations to Sophia. I wish you the best of luck to you.

Nobodt uses fat ugly women more than Tyler Perry. Maybe that’s what he really is. His movies and especially that sitcom is getting worse and worse. Maybe it’s time for him to go Hollywood with some slim good looking girls.

Ms Sophia is a disgrace. She/He is very annoying. All of the girl talk news that she/he reports is straight of the internet and she/he still can’t get the facts correct. Nothing erks me more than a reporter that doesn’t have their facts in order. She/He is not an intelligent person at all so I don’t even understand why she/he is even a V-103. Between Ms Sophia, Frank Ski and Wanda it’s hard to listen to the V-103 morning show. Trust me if they didn’t have such a strong signal they would not be number one in this city. Most people dislike that whole morning crew, especially Frank Ski.

I agree with one of the other comments. That rolling of the number 3 is ridiculous. I mean come on, enough is enough. For the most part, in my opinion, Ms. Sophia is funny but can go overboard at times. Hair and makeup is usually in my opinion again is a hot, hot mess. Overall, I think that comedy is just that and is not to be taken too seriously.

I can’t stand listening to that He/She Sophia and it has made me not listen to the V-103 moning show. what is the world coming to when they are shoving these deviant lifestyles down our throats by glorifying them in all the media outlets. Sophia is a disgrace and should not be on air. With all the serious issuse faces the black community and men in particular we need to focus on strong positive men to provide good role models to our young men coming up . We don’t need to be listening to cross dressing homosexuals verbally shucking and jiving on the radio.

Wassup with all the hate???? Tyler can cast anyone in his movies he wants to cast, and Ms. Sophia keep doing your thing. To all you haters: THEY CAN DO THAT,(ebonically speaking) THEY GOT IT LIKE THAT! I think all the haters are wishing they were Tyler Perry, and wishing they had Ms. Sophia’s spot on the radio. I think Ms. Sophia is hilarious and I think she will make a great addition to the movie. Personally I’ve always believed that people who hate on other people are really hating themselves. Thank you!

Tyler and Miss Sophia, continue to force our community to accept the homosexual agenda. They’re both homosexual which is an abomination and against God’s plan for normal human sexuality. It’s perverted behavior which needs to condemned and not celebrated. When will the African-American community stand up and say “Enough of the Homosexual Agenda in our community”. Our children’s minds are being contaminated. Frank Ski needs to speak out against this destestable behavoir and not support it. Or maybe he’s “in the Closet”

rick -you sound real stupid. We are hating on our selves due to the opinion we have of a He/She. In this time of moral values, Mr. Sophia is no role model. He is not even funny on the radio. Tyler perry can do what he wants, but eventually he will have to start making movies with some sort of social value behind it. Families in foreclosure and people unemplyed. the last thing they need is some shucking and jiving from Tyler perry studios. Lets make a movie to try a tackle some of the real issues affecting Black people. (Drugs, teenage pregnanacy, poverty,Education)

Hopefully the part will be very small. I don’t think I can take seeing “shim” on the big screen for too long. S/he is the reason I stopped listening to the Frank & Wanda morning show. I don’t want to hear all of that flamboyancy and rolling of “r’s” - it’s a bit much.
I for one am thoroughly disappointed that all of the “urban” morning shows now have a gay/cross dressing/transsexual sidekick. It’s a disgrace.

I am so tired of the glorification of all of the homosexuality. I can sum it up real quick. Read the bible. I’ve even heard Frank Ski let his sons call him auntie. I am shocked that he would do that. Hell he’s confusing his own kids. What’s even worst than that is that he’s not funny at all!!! The morning show is hard to stomach. Why should I have to explain to my 11 year old when I’m taking him to school why this man is trying to act and talk like a woman. Disgraceful!!!!!!!!!

I was annoyed by Frank and Wanda for some time, but when “Ms.” Sophia came along I knew it was time to turn that mess off. I had to stop listening.
I don’t understand why people think it is so wonderful to glorify this individual who doesn’t even know his own gender! I find him disgusting!
As for Frank having to appear in this article (and his wife & kids in the movie), it doesn’t surprise me. He is all about himself. He acts as if he is the best everything! He is not the least bit humble. He is not funny. And he is not a good host!
I wish that whole morning crew would disappear!

It is very sad to read the comments of some on here attacking Ms. Sophia on sexuality basis. If you do not like the brand of comedy she does, that is fine, but those that judge are no better than anyone else.
Opinions are just that opinions.
I like some of the films that Tyler has done and some I haven’t. But his story of living in his car to building an empire and highering many people in the local community should be praised.
The problems in society is not because of sexuality, it is because of the judgements that people throw down everyone’s throats.
Let people laugh, love, and live, and this world would be a much better place.
Good luck Ms. Sophia in your role.

We aren’t haters just because we don’t applaud this. We simply have some moral values that allow us to see the bigger picture. It isn’t about a person making money or “moving up” or whatever. It is about a man who parades around town as a woman (an ugly one, btw) and us being disgusted by it.
Now more than ever, people need to turn to Jesus to get some clarity and understanding.

Will you people please stop throwing the bible at homosexuality? If you choose to believe the bible, then there are many things you all have been doing that are “abominations.” How many of you masterbate? How many of you have had pre-martial sex? How many of you have had children out of wedlock? How many of you have “spilled your seed” by pulling out? Black people need to really be worried about why our children think it’s ok to be Lil Kim and Flava Flav. If you want to get so high and mighty, try reading to your kids or taking them to the High for some culture. We have bigger fish to fry than who is sleeping with whom. This is why AIDS is running rampant, particulary here in the ATL. All these gay dudes, like Frank, scarred to admit they like the ding dong, so they get married and crack on everything that seems remotely “homosexual.” A mess…

I am not sure if Ms Sophia is playing a character for entertainment purposes or if he is really living a lifestyle portrayed on the radio. if it is the latter then I challenge Frank Ski to the following for his next Inspirational Vitamin. COR I:6 9-10 - “Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” Don’t compromise your witness for a socially acceptable opinion that is void of godliness.

Tyler Perry is NOT GAY!! JUST BECAUSE HE PLAYS AN OLDER WOMAN IN SOME OF HIS PLAYS AND MOVIES DOES NOT MAKE HIM GAY! To Rick,
There is nothing wrong with laughter.Laughter and comedy can still be achieved while maintaining one’s dignity. And what you may consider negativity is actually accountability. As a black man in today’s society I fell is imperative that we represent ourselves as what we are supposed to be the pillars of our community. And in terms of living in the past I assure you I dont live in the past but I respect those in the past who lived their lives in a way that uplifted my race.
Men such as Martin Luther King, Booker T. Washington, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Medgar Evers, Frederick Douglas and many others. I think of all they had to endure to prove we were just as capable as any other race and deserving of our civil rights.
Rick if our forefathers had your careless attitude we would still be in shackles working on plantations.

Its upsetting but that seems to be the way with most people out there. They praise Jesus through the good times and blame him through the hard times. Praise be to God through all times! Randall - you aren’t going to hell if you have done those things. We all fall short to the glory of God. Thats why we had Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. If we accept him into our heart and ask for forgiveness of our transgressions then all is washed away.
But, Ms. Sophia is horrible strictly on an entertainment basis.

@ Ugh: If we expressed even half the frustration with lyrics on the radio as we do about gay people, how much better off we’d be.
I sometimes wonder if anti-gay zealots in our community think about the logical consequences of their hate. What are gay people supposed to do? Lie? Marry women even though their gay? Kill themselves? Many do all of the above, because the people they should be able to depend on the most— those in their community— voice so much hate.
Not one person on here has blasted V103 for playing music that glorifies “fornication” or “drunkness” or the other parade of horribles in Mike’s post. But having a gay person on the show? That’s really where you draw the line? That blatant inconsistency demonstrates, to me, that you’re not being honest with yourself about what’s troubling you. What’s bothering you is that it “disgusts” you, and you’re using the bible to justify it.
I hope picking a group more hated than black folks makes you feel better; at least then I suppose something good comes of it.

Unfortunatly black women have become so fascinated with anything that shows a black gay man, or anything about that down low BS. There is no way in the world that I would pay to see a man dressed as a woman and certainly not 2 men dressed as women, but the movie will probably be a huge success which will only reflect the sad state of mind the black community is in.

Shame on all of you who feel the need to make yourselves feel better by putting down a specific group. Emory University did a study on this and found people who used the bible as intolerance were found to be UNEDUCATED.. one more time UNEDUCATED. and it makes so much sense. These are people who come from poor neighborhoods, who are ghetto and have no class or education. Educated black people understand what God’s true word is to love everyone and not judge. Most of you bible thumpers on here, have children out of wedlock, owe debt to debt collectors, have sex outside of marriage etc, but yet have the NERVE to say something about another group. Talk about disgusting and pathetic !! Try to earn an education and get some money so you aren’t poor, and miserable !!!!!!!! Don’t you people know the same judgement was used against and STILL IS against black people. The world thinks of dark black people and says ewww, gross, disgusting. How horrible is that? It is something we can’t help as black people. Homosexuals are born that way and God made them perfectly. I am so ashamed of our people. All other groups show their class by loving all groups but no, we have to show how hurt and stupid we are. It also is the ghetto blacks who do this. It is so true. Look at Obama and Al Sharpton, etc. They are all for gay rights. Even the NAACP supports gay rights. They know discrimination has no place in America. Shame on you idiots who haven’t caught up.

I normally do not reply to comments on an article simply because they are how we feel about an issue. But it simply amazes me when I hear, read and see such hatred especially from blacks(african-americans,colored,negros…etc) and then use the bible to justify your hatred. The same bible that was used for years to justify the hatred and dismay on your black ass. First of all it is a movie in which characters are acting whatever role. Now, if you parents take the time and raise your children and stop letting the media raise your children it will not matter who comes on the radio, you would have taught them YOUR right from wrong. Moreover, whoever you punk ass men that let someone else’s choice of sexual preference minimize your manhood, you might want to check who is knocking your box out. Congratulations Miss Sophia and all involved in the movie….

I agree Aeryn. Well said. No biggee about being gay, but the whole cross dressing is another thing. I think Ms. Sophia does it as a joke though, right? I mean most gay people have so much style.

Hi five to ItzWhtUwant. Excellent comment. I’m a black male and I have to admit that in the past I had some of these same ignorant comments about people who were different because I was not comfortable with myself. I’ve learned not to judge people because of being a black male, we already have too much on our plate we need to deal with. All this other stuff about someone’s sexuality is trivial. I’ve learned to look at people for who they are. Again the hate is non-sense.

WOW! Now, if we as Black people, put this much energy into, I don’t know, VOTING, maybe we can start doing some real good in our own communities. If we took the time to educate ourselves about home buying, investing funds, and increasing “our” wealth like Mr. Perry, maybe we not be so concerned with how “morally” and “spiritually” wrong it is to see a transvestite on screen.
We are perfectly fine with seeing crap like Flava of Love, I love NY, The bachelor, and For the Love of RayJ pollute the minds of our youth with how “heterosexuals” relate to one another, BUT let Mr. Perry instill a few images that may not be mainstreem and we are ready to pull out the bible!
At least the character Ms Sophia plays is just that a “character” and not to be taken seriously. You hypocritical “bible-thumpers” have the nerve to want to be taken seriously….that to me is what is truly “offensive”.

Serioulsy - as I stated you sound very educated and it doesn’t surprise me to look at your views.. Emory University’s study was right on point.. well said my friend.
The other point is that is why people are steering away from religion which makes me very sad. It is these crazy bible thumpers that people think are creepy and wierd. It is these same people who are pushing people away from God. I hate to say I am religious because people automatically perceive me as being that creepy kind of person and I just love God. I also know God loves everyone and we all are equal in his eyes. I just wish religion had the same reputation it used to and now it is looked at in a bad way.

To spoken, Just because Obama and Al Sharpton support gay rights that does not make it right. That is the problem in the black community we always look to our so-called leaders, why can’t we lead ourselves like the asian and caucasian race do. Believe in what you believe in and not what Obama, Al, Jesse or anyone else believe in.

All of you sanctimonious, two faced hypocrites are hilarious. In order for most of you to enjoy humor,it has to be in a certain package. I’m not gay, nor do I really espouse it, but I do love people, and I know that they all come in different packages.I do not think that Tyler Perry is gay, nor do I care, for I would go to see his movies even if he wore a six foot banner on his head that said he was.I also count it as a blessing that ANYONE who was fortunate and blessed enough to be in one of his movies, has to be totally in the favor of God, and we should all be as lucky.

The Truth - So are you basically saying that everyone who uses God’s word to make point of “The Truth” is uneducated? That seems slightly stupid don’t you think?…slightly?…but I digress…
Yes, love is a major thing. The Greatest Commandment is You shall Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. -Matthew 22:37-39 (ESV).
Yes, we are to love our neighbor, but we are to hate the sin. I love most everyone..hah..but I do not condone the sin. There is a difference friends.

A lot of you are missing the big picture. Being gay is not the issue. It is the media representation of black men that is my main concern.
There are so many negative stereotypes of us out there right now, the athletes with financial and legal problems, the misogynistic rappers. I think we have a responsibility that when we have control over our portrayal in the media. We should try to balance out all the negativity with some reflection of the positive qualities of black men. Tyler Perry has a worldwide platform right now in terms of media attention. He may have had to do the Madea thing to be noticed but now that he is noticed use that platform in a way that instills pride rather than making us look like buffoons.

Please let people live their lives the way they see fit, I am actually proud of anyone who can accomplish their dreams. this should not be about us talking about one another and throwing stones. If you do not like the station, you have that right not to listen. But obviously they have enough supporters to keep them on the air. And we outta be praising the fact that we have come so far. But lets not forget it took many of us to stand together to get to where we are.
So with that being said, i wish all of you a wonderful day, may god bless you.

Just reading some of the posts and figured I’d add fuel to the fire!
It’s nothing less than funny to me how people are trying to discredit those who are referencing the Bible. Well, Im going to throw it way back to Mike @ 10:22 AM and refer to 1 Corinthians 6:9 (yes, more Bible quoting, just deal with it if you don’t like it, or you think I’m uneducated).
Since none of us are in the position to judge others, I won’t judge the homosexual, I’ll just pray for you. Have a nice day.

I have no comment about Tyler Perry’s choice of using Ms Sophia in his movie or even about Ms Sophia/Joe. As for Frank Ski I see him just about everyday because I work in the building where the radio station is located. He gets on his moral high horse, but, has tried to date one of my coworkers….Please!!! I do however have a comment about how here in ATL homosexuality/strippers are glorified. I do feel that this place overall has a lack of morals. None of us are perfect, but to try and justify homosexuality, by emphasizing other sins does not make ANY of them any less wrong. When you become comfortable in your wrong doing, that is the time to take a look at yourself and re-examine your moral standings. Always remember the road to HELL will be the widest and filled with the most people.Personally I would rather live here on Earth with the morals of the “Bible Thumpers” then the go the Hell!!!! But that’s just my opionion. I suggest that each of you read your bible for yourself!

Now my question is this why do we act as if Homosexuals are going to hell before the rest of us. WE all need to work on ourselves and let God do his own work. Let’s pray for each other. AMEN

It’s not the first day of April, but this has to be a joke…or is Tyler a fool? I’ve tolerated Tyler’s “sweetness” because he was keeping it undercover, but this is too much for me. I won’t support another of Tyler’s projects no matter how much money he gives away! And furthermore, V-103 has gone downhill since Sofia joined the crew.

Ok, this is getting way out of control. What’s up with the personal attacks? Someone mentioned earlier, and I agree, that if we had this much conversation and debate about real issues facing Blacks throughout the Diaspora, but particularly here in the states, we could solve so many issues: disparities in the criminal justice system; access to education; addition; out-of-wedlock children (upwards of 70% of black children are born to a single parent); AIDS/HIV; access to affordable health care. Come on people, Tyler is making movies and is on the money grind! And I for one ain’t mad. His slap stick, shucking and jiving is what we are buying after all…Anyone who can afford to buy Oprah and Gayle bentley’s GOTTA have crazy loot that ain’t come from selling drugs. LoL!

Rick I have seen his movies, and I really dont see how medea going to Jail, or House of Payne or Meet the Browns are relevant in todays society. So you can refrain from whatever you want. He needs to address better content. Maybe because I dont talk in Ebonics, or conform to the stereotypes we ask Blacks are subject too. I guess that would make me clueless. Sorry rick, I realize that you can only attempt to reach one to teach one. With you my arms are too short!!!!

High five Rick. it is so much easier for people to say someone about someone else in a pathetic attempt to make themselves feel/appear better. Ummm…I don’t know where your getting your information but I’ve lived in Alabama all my life (42 years) and white alabamians don’t hate blacks here anymore than people in New York, or California. I have family living in both those states and they are surprised at how racism is MORE prevelant there than down here. Yes, racism does exist everywhere but this is no longer the “old south” that is depicted in the old Civil Rights clips. Blacks and whites work in the same offices, dine in the same restaurants, live in the same communities, and worship together in the same churches here. I’m black and my closest friends happen to be white, who also were born and raised here same as I.
As for homosexuals, we hold the same views on them as the bible instrucst us to hold on ALL sinners; LOVE THE SINNER BUT HATE THE SIN! The bible does say that homosexuals will have no part in heaven (not my words but God’s) I do however believe that there will be people in heaven who have may have engaged in homoesexual activities but they chose to turn away from that lifestyle.
Needless to say I will not be suporting Tyler Perry’s film with Sophia Mcintosh. I won’t tell others how to spend their money but as for me I will NOT support it. He gives this person valuable publicity and also gives his stamp of approval on this lifestyle.

Is it alright for men to wear dresses..LOL! I can’t believe how many people have to puzzle their brains to figure this one out. And these are church people mostly. Wow, no wonder Perry is confused. He has bishops, phrophetesses, apostles, and plain old church women (men too) upholding and supporting this perversion of God’s creation. They really believe this bafoonery as being “from the lord”. Looks to me like it’s not the world be decieved as much as it’s the CHURCH! Crossdressers in the church as well as outside! So why even bother joining huh? No wonder people laugh at the body of Christ these days.
This man even admitts himself when he puts on that dress that the spirit of Madea takes over. Well it’s certainly not the Holy Spirit in that dress with him. Hmmm…wonder which spirit it is….
