Journey

Rock-n-roll, big-hair band style, made a revival when Journey hit the stage Sunday night. The loud guitars, the heavy percussion, the screaming vocals, the power ballad — all were schrapnel emanating from this explosion of sound.

Steve Augeri, the group’s current lead singer, sounds strikingly similar to Steve Perry, the frontman who rose to fame with the group in the 1980s.

Augeri’s voice seemed to fade a notch or two as the night went on, but not his energy. He led the group through a spirited performance of its hits, which were enthusiastically received by the crowd.

Half of the audience seemed to sing along with the classic ballad “With Open Arms.” Another hit, “Don’t Stop Believing,” was greeted with hearty applause.

The lighters were in the air, the arms were raised and swaying from side to side and rock and roll was back.

Man, they may be kinda up there in age, but these guys BROUGHT IT!!! They rocked the huge crowd at the 96 rock stage Sunday night. I was amazed to be surrounded by people of all ages singing along to all the hits with me.

No blog entries on one of the most electrifying

performances of this year’s festival - The Doors of the 21st Century with the Cult’s Ian Astbury?

Ian was Jim Morrison reincarnated. The crowd was into almost every song. I planned on watching only half the concert and then heading over to the Foo Fighters. But that idea quickly went away when I saw how good this reincarnation of the Doors was.

Much better than their Gwinnett show of 2003, probably because the crowd at Music Midtown was younger. Great set with a good mix of the old favorites and classics that only dedicated Journey fans would know (like “Mother, Father”). Steve Augeri doesn’t sound just like Steve Perry, but he is close enough to keep me coming back.

Journey is terrible! Why would those clowns headline? 96 rock sucks almost as much as clear channel does!

Journey was great! They definitely schooled the younger bands. Neal Schon absolutely kicked ass. What an incredible guitarist. The new Steve could never replace the old Steve though. I was most impressed with the drummer Deen Castronovo. The man sang “Mother, Father” just like Perry while beating the drums like a madman! It was unbelievable. After Steve Perry left, I kind of lost interest, but this might just be enough for me to check out the “new” Journey.
