Fur Bus takes media for ride to hot ATL eateries
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The driven folks behind the Fur Bus sponsored a wild media tour late last week to roll out the Atlanta company’s two newest party vehicles, with scheduled pit stops at five of the city’s hottest eateries.
It was not for the easily intoxicated or the sensitive-stomached.
The Michael Jackson-blasting, fur-lined, tricked out vehicles made stops at Tin Lizzy’s in Buckhead for guacamole; Pie Bar in Midtown for pizza; Taurus, located on the cusp of Buckhead, for martinis and massages courtesy of next-door neighbor Spa Sydell; Ecco in Midtown for French wine and fried goat cheese spheres drizzled with honey; and, finally, libations on the rooftop of BED downtown.
Fur Bus co-owners Trey Humphreys, Bucky Corban and Rick Butgereit served as chaperons for the three-hour tour. Humphreys’ right hand was sporting a bandage, a result of installing the air-conditioning unit.
“I’m not sure if you know this,” Humphreys confided to Buzz, “but there are these whirling things inside an air conditioner that you should really try and avoid sticking your fingers into.”
Cracked Butgereit: “We like to say that there’s a pound of flesh in every one of these [vehicles].”
The popular buses are frequently seen around the city, conveying bachelorette parties, birthday celebrations and prom dates from venue to venue.
By the time the maiden voyage departed BED, certain individuals on board had shucked their shirts and ties and were dancing with abandon. And with the volume of camera phones being utilized, the evening was well-documented, much to the chagrin of the more telegenic participants in attendance.
Buzz took copious notes throughout.
With the direction the evening was going, naturally, we had to ask the inevitable: Has anyone ever become ill while on board?
“Twice,” Humphreys said. “And since we usually have to replace everything inside afterward, there’s a steep service charge involved.”
To avoid any incidents after the media excursion, a small squadron of Zero Drivers awaited the press types back at Tin Lizzy’s to transport everyone and their cars safely home.
Last call for lyrics
For weeks now, loyal Buzz readers have e-mailed us suggested lyrics for the upcoming Woodruff Park theme song being written by “It’s Buckhead!” belter Melanie Massell to help celebrate the downtown park’s upgraded free Wi-Fi green space.
Even budding Atlanta country singer-songwriter Mark Scott took time to contribute to the effort.
Here are a few lines he sent us: “Just north of where the Five Points meet/ There’s an urban oasis, grass ‘neath your feet/ Take a stroll and just slow down/ You’ve found the coolest spot in town/ It’s right downtown, a park called Woodruff / Once you go there you can’t get enough.”
Massell, meanwhile, has been busy working with your lyrics to create the tribute to Woodruff Park.
“It’s been difficult to select the right phrases without creating a song with a dozen verses,” she reports via e-mail.
“There are so many great ones to choose from. I will tell you that I have found the hook for the chorus — and I think you’ll find it hard to sit still when you hear it.
“I’ve been pleased to see that Atlantans are passionate, creative and sharing their personal excitement about their city. It humbles me to be the one who will compile so many peoples’ thoughts into the final creation.”
As it stands, the new Woodruff theme could be finished and unveiled during a splashy public concert there as early as August. We’ll keep you posted.
