‘Truth is, there’s a little Sawyer in all of us’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Apparently Georgia native and “Lost” actor Josh Holloway is still blissfully unaware that he inspires a significant portion of the population to drool in front of their televisions each Wednesday night. The former Cherokee County resident, who plays Sawyer on the hit ABC drama series, tells Men’s Journal in the November issue that he’s still concerned about job security.
“Everybody in the cast worries about being killed off, and we wouldn’t know until they handed us the script — three days before shooting,” the 37-year-old actor says in the mag.
“It’s a sensitive issue. People have houses here, kids in school. Most of us aren’t in our 20s anymore.”
But Holloway’s Sawyer has developed into both a villain and a fan favorite.
“It still shocks me how people love him,” he says. “But my take on guys like him is they’re just dudes who have a different perspective on how to survive. Truth is, there’s a little Sawyer in all of us, and that’s why people get into him.”
The fictional Sawyer spills that he’s now set to play another bad boy — a kidnapper — in the thriller “The Whisper,” slated for release next year.
“It’s a fun movie, but I’m looking to do a really different role next, more of a character who maybe even keeps his shirt on most of the time.”
Yeah, and we’re paid to keep to ourselves at parties …
Battling Babs at the Garden
Ticket-holders for the upcoming Barbra Streisand concert at Philips Arena, take note. Apparently, verbal abuse is included in the $800 ticket price. At her concert Monday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the “Yentl” actress got heckled after she made derogatory remarks about the current president. According to the New York Post, one audience member shouted, “What is this, a fund-raiser?” to which Babs replied, “Why don’t you shut the [expletive] up?! If you can’t take a joke, why don’t you leave and get your money back.” The gentleman did precisely that.
The Donald on K-Fed
Since we’re not yet 90 or a shut-in, Buzz will admit to missing Monday night’s riveting “Larry King Live” with Donald Trump on CNN.
Leave it to our favorite wizened relic to somehow bring the conversation around to the Donald’s thoughts on Britney Spears’ house hubby Kevin Federline. Trump admitted that he initially blamed K-Fed for the pop princess’s decline. “Hey, look what happened to her, she’s a mess,” Trump told King. “So, what happens now is I heard the other day that his all-time hero is Donald Trump. So, now I think he’s a great guy. He’s fantastic. I totally changed my mind. I think Kevin Federline is fantastic.” We really gotta stay home more …
A nuclear-powered ‘View’
Naturally, “The View,” on the other hand, continues to be appointment television. Without den mother Barbara Walters riding herd, Monday’s edition got especially juicy when “Hot Topics” included North Korea’s dubious nuclear test.
Co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck defended the troops and the war on terror while co-worker Joy Behar argued that the United States is mimicking the marionettes from “Team America: World Police.” When moderator Rosie O’Donnell tried to cut off the pair to give away a prize, Behar waved her hand menacingly and yelled, “Screw that!” before continuing her tirade. That crusty little black thing beating in our chest, however, went out to fill-in co-host Susan Lucci, who remained silent, nervously sipping her water while no doubt thinking that even Erica Kane is incapable of such dramatics …
Sick bay
Alpharetta resident Usher may not get to finish his stint as Billy Flynn in “Chicago” on Broadway after all.
You’ll recall that the pop star recently extended his run in the show until Saturday, his birthday. Online gossip Web site Tmz.com is now reporting that the singer has missed several performances in the past week due to a bout with the flu. There’s no immediate word on whether the run would be extended again.
Paris, Nicole BFF again!
It would appear that the producers of “The Simple Life” needed more than a big pink house in Candler Park to ensure the future of the Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie reality TV franchise. In a particularly biting ironic twist, the estranged friends publicly made up Sunday at Dan Tana’s Steakhouse in Los Angeles (if recent bikini-clad photos in the Buzz Central copy of In Touch magazine are accurate, Richie’s last meal was a Tic Tac somewhere around the time of Ronald Reagan’s second term). After a yearlong public feud that nearly killed their show, Hilton and Richie have agreed to film a fifth chapter of “Life” together, executive producer Jon Murray tells The Associated Press.
“The thing the viewers love is the two girls together,” he said.
The 25-year-old celebutantes will be camp counselors in the newest “Simple Life” adventure, set to begin production next month, Murray said. The show will air on E! next spring, he added.
The show will delve into “what led to the breakdown in the friendship and maybe some of the misunderstandings and things that got in the way,” he said.
We’re praying that includes the obscenity-laced cellphone conversation we witnessed at Elton John’s Oscar party this year. That’s when the heiress learned her ex-BFF had been admitted to the Vanity Fair party across the street, a gathering that banned Hilton.
