New WE show gives the ATL lots of credit

National TV shows are seldom shot in Atlanta. Right now, the most prominent one, “October Road” on ABC, uses Atlanta to masquerade as a fictional New England town.

But starting Sunday at 9:30 a.m., WE network will begin airing “Get Married,” a weekly wedding-oriented news-you-can-use show with plenty of Atlanta ties. It’s hosted by Q100 radio morning personality Jenn Hobby and produced by a local production company.

Subjects include trend stories, expert advice, exotic destinations for weddings and honeymoons, and celebrity interviews. The first episode features former Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell, with future guests to include actor John O’Hurley and NASCAR driver Kurt Busch.

WE has committed to a one-year run, with 26 fresh episodes scheduled. Among the local experts to appear: Spanx founder Sara Blakely and bridal gown designers Anne Barge and Melissa Sweet.

Show creator Stacie Francombe said the show is closely aligned with a Web site wedding portal, www.getmarried.com, which has just launched. Viewers can purchase anything mentioned on the show there.

A local version of the show, “Get Married Atlanta,” aired on the former Pax network last year and led to the national program.

“I’m excited and exhausted,” said Francombe, who has children ages 1, 3 and 5. “We’re literally running on empty getting this Web site up.”

ELEVEN50 TO OPERA

Eleven50 was at the epicenter of the Midtown party scene when it opened in October 2000 and held on for six years, a relatively long life for a trendy club. It became a mecca for out-of-town DJs and private parties. But Eleven50 shut down over New Year’s for $2 million in renovations and will resurrect itself as Opera. Rachael Pryor, entertainment and marketing director, said the club will likely reopen in late May or June.

It is building second-floor opera boxes, a new DJ booth and a bigger dance floor, along with rich velvet curtains, glass railings and chandeliers.

The new name stems from the fact that the space was an opera house in the 1920s.

RADIO ROUNDUP

Three local radio stations made changes this morning.

> Sports talk station 790/The Zone extends its “Mayhem in the AM” morning show an extra hour, to 11 a.m., and adds Chris Dimino, who used to have his own show from 10 a.m. to noon. College football expert Chuck Oliver joins the “Monsters of the Midday” show with Chuck Smith and Matt Chernoff, which is now extended an hour earlier and airs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

> C.J. Simpson, formerly part of the Hot 107.9 morning team, finally joins Murph Dawg on rival R&B/hip-hop station 95.5/The Beat. Hot 107.9’s owner, Radio One, tried to enforce a six-month non-compete clause in her contract but lost the case in court. The effort, though, delayed her arrival at the Beat by two months.

> And, as previously reported, 16-week-old country station 94.9/The Bull adds a new morning show, Nashville duo Big D & Bubba. They are not to be mistaken for fellow syndicated duo Rick & Bubba, who once were seen locally on the now-defunct Turner South cable network but can now be heard on radio every Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. on WSB-AM.

RANDOM BITS

Tori Spelling, who recently gave birth to her first child, says she began reconciling with her mother, Candy, in the last weeks of her pregnancy. “It was mutual,” the 33-year-old actress told Us Weekly. Their 9-month estrangement was juicy gossip in the tabloids, with mother and daughter sitting apart during a tribute to the late TV producer Aaron Spelling at the Emmy Awards last August… .

KFC is offering “American Idol” contestant Sanjaya Malakar free KFC bowls for life if he wears a “bowl” haircut. The bowls are a mishmash of rice or mashed potatoes with cheese, chicken, gravy and corn. Buzz can’t ascertain whether this is

a prize or a punishment… .

Friends of the late 91.9 new-soul/jazz “Hot Ice” DJ Ken Batie will hold a benefit Thursday at Center Stage, featuring Roy Ayers, Ken Ford and Anthony David, among others. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS

Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner is 81. Naturalist Jim Fowler (“Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom”) is 75. Actor Dennis Quaid is 53. Actress-model Paulina Porizkova is 42. Actress Cynthia Nixon (“Sex and the City”) is 41. Actress Keshia Knight Pulliam (“The Cosby Show”) is 28. Singer-actor Jesse McCartney (“Summerland”) is 20.

YOU TUBE

Video of the Week

Alanis Morissette, known for her pain-filled “You Oughta Know” angst and shaky understanding of the word irony, proved that she can be goofy, too, releasing a parody of the already ridiculous Black Eyed Peas song “My Humps” on YouTube and other video sites.

In it, a pony-tailed Morissette (dressed like Fergie in the original video) transforms the dance tune into an overly dramatic ballad while shaking her rump and humps around a bunch of sunglass-wearing dudes.
