Stars will appear for Fonda’s 70th
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
“Brothers & Sisters” Emmy winner Sally Field is among the celebrity celebrants already confirmed for Jane Fonda’s upcoming 70th birthday celebration, the two-time Oscar winner tells Buzz. Pals Eve Ensler, Gloria Steinem and Rosie O’Donnell are also due to fly into Atlanta for the Dec. 14 fund-raiser for the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention. Grammy winner Bonnie Raitt has been booked as the evening’s entertainment while invitations also have been extended to Fonda’s “9 to 5” co-star Lily Tomlin and her favorite ex-hubby Ted Turner.

So, how does one get on the guest list?
A black American Express card would help.
Months ago, the Poncey-Highland resident and activist decided to observe her seventh decade by instituting a new G-CAPP program that will mentor 70 sixth-graders over seven years through high school graduation with counseling in education, family life, finances, arts, sports, medical care and sex ed.
G-CAPP is asking each potential birthday party participant to join the nonprofit’s “Inner Circle” by pledging $7,000 per year for seven years or a total $49,000 commitment. Only 70 slots are available and G-CAPP organizers tell us that 31 of those already have been acquired by corporate and individual donors.
“This is completely unprecedented for us,” G-CAPP president and CEO Michele Ozumba told us. “We’re basically trying to raise a seven-year budget in six months. But people have been really open and excited about this. Our goal here is to build a legacy to leave Atlanta and the state of Georgia.”
When asked if her favorite basic cable fake news man and “Colbert Report” anchor Stephen Colbert is on her birthday party guest list, Fonda fondly recalled her PDA with Colbert during her appearance on the late-night Comedy Central show this year.
“Wouldn’t that be great?!” she said, laughing. Then she slyly added: “You know, he’s a good kisser. Very soft lips!”

Fado fades ‘til ‘08
The taps at Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant will go dry, starting this weekend as the popular Peachtree Road watering hole makes way for the in-progress Buckhead Village makeover. A new bar, being built by the Irish Pub Company of Dublin, is on order and will be shipped to the states at Fado’s new location one block east near the corner of Buckhead and North Fulton avenues as part of developer Ben Carter’s new Streets of Buckhead development project. Look for the new Fado to debut in January. Meanwhile, fans of Rugby World Cup finals can catch matches through the end of business Saturday night before the Guinness goes dry until 2008.
Lap time with Santa going fast
We were still trying to finalize a Halloween “fun size” candy bar purchase Tuesday when we got word that half of the Phipps Plaza Santa’s 5,000 seasonal appointments had vaporized overnight. Santa arrives Nov. 9, you see. At 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, www.santaatphipps.com began accepting online reservations. In the Web site’s first hour, 2,500 appointments were booked (these are obviously the same deeply troubled parental figures willing to explore the dark recesses of the black market for Hannah Montana tickets …).
Q100 DJ Melissa Carter, who recently launched www.campaigntosavehalloween.com in an effort to keep the head elf at the North Pole until the nation has collectively gnawed on a turkey leg next month, was not amused.
“Seriously?” she asked from a Q100 restroom when we phoned (she swears she wasn’t tapping her foot). “I may start throwing pumpkins.” Atlanta, you’ve been warned.
‘A.I.’ honcho on ATL
Five years ago, 46 people from the Atlanta “American Idol” auditions made it to Hollywood. Last week, only 49 people were even trotted before Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. (We don’t know how many made it to the next round.)
“Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told Buzz that this isn’t necessarily a reflection of less talent emanating from the auditions. “We’ve been very, very picky this year,” he said Tuesday during a phone conference promoting the “Idol” spinoff show “The Next Great American Band,” debuting Friday. “We’ve just cut out a lot of crazies. The truth is once we have them on tape, we can use them in montages. It seems silly to waste the time of the real judges.”
Of the seven audition cities this year, he said San Diego was the strongest while Dallas was the weakest. “With Kelly Clarkson the only big star out of Texas, it’s truly the Lone Star state,” he joked.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I’m extremely proud to accept this award on behalf of my office and employees. We were among the first in the nation to realize the implications animal cruelty portends for our communities. I’m happy, and just for Peach Buzz, you might say I’m doggone pleased.” — Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard, on his office’s 2007 Humane Law Enforcement Award given out by the Humane Society of the United States Saturday night in Alexandria, Va.

A man is trying a very unusual way to propose to his girlfriend. He wants people to forward an email to as many people as possible and he hopes that it will eventually get to his girlfriend. Details here: http://www.proposal-to-mary.com
Here is what he wants people to send by email:
You could help me a lot to spread my proposal to Mary - it is important that it is distributed as widely as possible so that it eventually reaches Mary. If you would like to support my proposal to Mary, please send the following text by email to a lot of people :-)
——————- SNIP (email text end) ———————-
WHEN YOU RECEIVE THIS, PLEASE HELP TO DISTRIBUTE IT TO OTHER PEOPLE!
For a long time I have tried to find a special way to propose marriage to my girlfriend Mary, whom I know for five years now. I wanted it very special, romantic and memorable, something our grandchildren would still remember.
And here is my idea: I will send out the proposal to Mary to 50 complete strangers, people I don’t know - hoping, that they will forward my proposal to as many people as possible, which in turn forward it etc. And some day, I hope, it will reach Mary, after it has travelled a very long way. I know, it will take a long time and I am quite nervous
From the poem MY Mary will know immediately that the proposal is for her.
I have created a homepage ( http://www.proposal-to-mary.com ) where you can find the current status of my quest. You can use the homepage to check if the proposal has already reached Mary (in that case it is not necessary anymore to forward the mail).
Once the proposal has reached Mary, I will put a note on these pages. Also I will publish there how many people have read the proposal so that everybody can see how far it has spread and that it is getting closer to Mary.
And of course you will find there what I am waiting for most: Mary’s answer! I can’t tell you, how nervous I am Will she accept my proposal? Will she like the unusual way how she got it, through the hands of thousands of messengers all over the world?
Please cross your fingers for me! And please - help me by sending the mail to as many people as possible, to help it spread, so that it eventually reaches Mary.
And here is my proposal:
Mary, please forgive me, as you know English is not my native language. And I am not a poet. But I mean it from my heart.
My angel,
Five years ago, I will always remember the day When fate made us meet, blissful Alaskan moments in May Earth spun around us and a journey began Love, warmth, happiness, enough the years to span.
The longer it lasts the more grows our bond And with 80 still - of you I will be fond Whatever happens, I will stay at your side Through good and bad, together let us stride
No second with you was ever wasted You are the sweetest I have ever tasted We have spent so many years - why not a life? Mary, will you marry me - and become my wife?
Mary, if you have received that and have recognized me, then give me a sign so that I can continue with the romantic part of my proposal
