‘Today’ wedding winners given rosy welcome
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
LaDonna Bradford and Darnell Suggs, the Atlanta couple married last month on “Today” after winning the “Race to the Altar” contest, are back from their Bora Bora honeymoon.
On Friday morning, the newlyweds were toasted in the rose garden at the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Midtown in front of 50 friends and family members who were unable to attend their New York nuptials last month.
Toasting the couple with a peach mango mimosa, Atlanta Botanical Garden executive director Mary Pat Matheson said: “May the love you’ve cultivated from a seed bloom … much like the roses in your garden.”
Bradford and Suggs told their guests that they snorkeled with tropical fish, fed stingrays and sharks, and enjoyed their own personal butler on their island honeymoon.
With shovel in hand and wearing color-coordinated gloves, Matheson planted a coral pink Lady Elsie May rosebush in honor of the couple.
Guests enjoyed a completely environmentally friendly menu of Thai chili chicken on sesame crisps, poke macadamia nut salads in bamboo cups with edible orchids and raspberry caramel crème brûlées provided by Avante Catering during the reception. A recording of the couple’s “Today” wedding played behind them on a large screen.
When Buzz was finally introduced to the pair we’ve been writing about for weeks, we had to ask Bradford, a nuclear reactor inspector, one question in particular: Which proved more stressful — her profession or being married on live TV?
“Probably being married on ‘Today,’ ” Bradford conceded, laughing. “We try not to have that level of excitement at my job!”
Suggs said that various family members dutifully TiVoed every step of their “Today” show journey for their video wedding album.
Added the groom: “And my grandma’s friends in Columbia, Md., got all dressed up to watch us get married on their TV!”
‘Bachelorette’ update
Buzz caught up with Jesse Csincsak, the amiable snowboarder Newnan’s “Bachelorette” gal DeAnna Pappas chose in the finale that aired this week on WSB-TV. And yes, he’s still in love, something he didn’t really expect to happen. “I came onto this show just to make some friends and have fun,” he told Buzz.
Csincsak didn’t even apply for the show; a cousin filled out the online form for him without his knowledge. But he decided to go anyway despite having never seen a second of any previous “Bachelor.” He also chose to know nothing about Pappas going in rather than do a big Google search like many of the competing bachelors.
“I wanted to learn about her from her,” he said. He quickly became aware he was not nearly as good looking as most of his brethren. “I consider myself low on the totem pole of looks,” he said. “I was an orange in a bushel of apples. But she chose to look past that.”
With a marriage date set for spring, the pair plan to live in Breckenridge, Colo., for most of the year but will spend summers in Newnan. He is also flying her to Mount Hood in Oregon to teach her snowboarding. “She’s a natural athlete,” he said. “She’ll do just fine with the proper instruction.”
