1/5: Crash talks!

Christopher “Crash” Clark is still under contract with 99X for another two months so he is restricted in what he could say (in other words, he can’t say anything disparaging about the company while still on its payroll.)

But this is what he could say about his firing last month:

“I lost a family, not just a job,” he said. “I want to thank all the listeners from Power 99 to today. This town has been a family to me, too. I don’t want to leave it.”

“I’m getting married in April, just bought a house with my wife to be. I have a loyal following with all these people who know me and grew up with me. I don’t want to reestablish myself. I’d love to stay here.”

He was heartened by the positive reaction from the site Jim Voris created www.savecrash.org. “It’s hysterical. I thank everyone on that. It was neat to see the reponses. It makes you feel good.”

He said he apologized profusely for his bad judgment in letting the lady do a Monica on the guy in the Jack Rabbit Lounge bathroom last month for rock concert tickets starring the band 311. “I was floored when they said that was terminated,” he said. “It shouldn’t have gone up the corporate ladder.” But that didn’t matter since Q100/99x’s corporate owner Susquehanna is playing it conservative now that 99X is being sold to Atlanta-based Cumulus (the deal should close in the spring.)

He said the only reason the station even knew about it was because someone from the bar supposedly complained. He isn’t sure who it was though he knew a bar manager there was dating a jock at 99X.

Crash said the station both encouraged and discouraged his party-going, beer-drinking, good times persona. “It’s a double-edged sword. They tell me I’m not supposed to get too crazy at my gigs. Then the next day, it’s my birthday. There’s a twelve-pack of beer on ice. ‘Have a few beers while you’re doing a show.’ It was a Catch 22.”

He said being unemployed “is still pretty surreal to me.” He plans to start job hunting soon. “Get the phones ringing, get some tapes out. Cross my fingers and see what happens.”

Crash’s statement doesn’t sound like he’s abiding by any 12 step guidelines. I do miss hearing him, but I don’t want to be an enabler.

I miss bi-polar Crash. You hear drunken party Crash on 99x then 5 minutes later you year “New” (wuss) Crash on Q100. Maybe Crash D should come back on 97 Jamz. What do you mean The River? Too much has changed here, where’s my Sirius?

I don’t listen to 99X, but used to hear Crash on Q100’s ‘The Bert Show’ and I didn’t really like him very much so I was glad that they fired him and disgusted by the firing offense. However, after passing by 99X and listening briefly to a few of their bits, I can’t believe they fired him for the incident at the bar. That is no more offensive than the rest of the show. Actually, it is less offensive because it didn’t have to be broadcast and could have just been handled internally without all of the hullaballoo. It seems like someone was out to get Crash.

Crash was a moron for doing what he did at the bar, way over the top and they were right to fire him.

I’m cracking up at the negative comments above. You guys are complete hypocrites. You’re the ones who will laugh and enjoy the entertainment when Crash is being his “stage persona” self, but then are the 1st ones to complain and moan when he does something over the top - something the radio stations wanted him to do. They didn’t “make” him do it, certainly, but you know they encouraged him to be wild - more people tune in when he is - which equals more $$ for them. I think a fine or suspension should have been imposed if anything, but fired? C’mon. The suits at Susquehanna are hyporcrites just like the whiners that posted here. He needs to moon every single one of their wives and ride off into the sunset with his new wife … long live Crash Clark!

I think it is so stupid that he was fired. Did he put a gun to those peoples’ head and make them do what it is they did? Why is that disgusting? Never had a hummer before or gave one? There sure are a lot of weenies in the ATL…

Glad to see you are gone. You were too much at times. I was disgusted by the fact that you would condone drunk driving and the lack of respect you have for females. Maybe at your next job you will grow up. Sometimes being a convenient store clerk will do that to you.

Good riddance,

What would be amazing to me, is if his “fiance” stays with him.
