2/1: WAOK’s Coz gone… again!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The on-again, off-again relationship between black talk station WAOK-AM and Coz Carson is off again… again. They let him go Monday. He wouldn’t say exactly why, only was told they wanted to “go in a different direction,” whatever that means.
He said he harbors no ill will toward AOK and is seeking syndication opportunities.
Coz, who was heard afternoons on WAOK, is certainly a man who goes after sacred cows. He has openly criticized Bill Campbell, who is close with many WAOK/V-103 personalities. And he has also gone after Bishop Eddie Long, yet another well-respected African American figure in Atlanta.

3.03pm you posted this Rodney, Sounds like it’s nap time and even I had part 2 of my back surgery this morning….Where is everyone? Where is B.J Ellis?
As for Coz Carson, it’s just another one of my predictions at my media site Keminications.Com’s 2006 Crystal ball corner. Could this be the Infinity cluster my crystal ball was talking about? Coz Carson needs to call the real Boss he should be working for….Roger Ailes at Fox News Channel and get him a damn show. The guy is a mixture of Geraldo and JC Watts! Smart and a touch of FUN!

Even though Coz is a waste of air time, it is a shame that WAOK probably let him go because of his comments about Bill Cambell, and not because he is unqualified to hold the job.
That station is suppossed to be about informing the community, but how can they do that when they clearly wear their biases on their sleeves.
I don’t care for Coz Carson, but I would hope that someone from Infinity would care enough to actually hire some intelligent people to work at that station. Because as it stands now, it really doesn’t serve a point. It says a lot that they switched a show about finances (not that Mr. Wilson is very informed about what he’s talking about) to two hours and gave someon like Coz four hours.

Although this is clearly “under the bell”, you knew I couldn’t let juicy news like this pass. The real cancer at that station is Rick Caffey, not Coz (even though he is terrible). I’m sure the “ball is going to drop” about this lawsuit very soon. This is why they got rid of him. I wonder if I’m going to receive another email from Scott Herman (Rick’s boss)… I doubt it.
P.S. Don’t expect WAOK to do anything BOLD and add anything intelligent to the lineup. That isn’t aligned with the NON-STOP civil-rights template. I’ll have more on this later.

JaiLynn—If you think I make this blog worth reading, then imagine me on your favorite radio station doing my talk show. Why I’m not on the air yet? Your guess is as good as mine—especially considering what’s on the air NOW. I have older archives up on my website: www.bjellis.com. Check them out for countless hours of listening pleasure!

Coz was informative and entertaining!! I’ve never heard a Brother spitting truths like that in ‘theY’ face.
I CANNOT STAND Lorraine, the proverbial preachers wife, she has no voice. She pitty pats all day. Sweethearting the men to death and gossiping with the stay at home moms AND DADS and old folk. So what if Coz talked about MY Pastor? and Atlanta’s former Mayor. Hell, the current one only care about ‘the issues’ of certain folk. Coz has a right to have his opinions, this is America!! Coz brought to my attention things that previously didn’t give rats ace about. I will NO LONGER listen to the entire AOK station. BTW, Mr. Neal Boortz is way worse than Coz, call and write 750/Cox and get that man removed from air. O-ok, I thought so. Tavis Smiley, the author of Come Hell or high water have edgy opinions as well write/call their sponsors, etc and have them removed. WHEN A BLACK MAN GIVE THE POWERS TO BE HIS BLACK ACE TO KISS, WE (OF ALL PEOPLE) WE CANNOT HANDLE IT. Y’all (and you know who you are) MAKE ME SAY, UGH!!!

And another thing…. The other week Coz was telling it like it, I-S, is to Cynthia Tucker, the gay community and many others. As for me, I do not want to see John and Jack in the pews either. There is a gay church on Boulevard. Go there. Anyway, Did the gay and lesbian lobbyists get to waok?

I believed that was the reason that he was let go because of the statements he made about gays. If so, the gay community has a lot of power in this town.

Prissy—True enough, you are definitely entitled to your opinion, however the mere fact that you believe that Coz Carson is a good talk show host is not a testament to how good or bad he is, it is rather a testament to your tremendous lack of knowledge of what it takes to be a good talk show host. I have no problems accepting the fact that your standards are low, however professionally speaking; Coz Carson does NOT have (nor has he ever had) what it takes to be a halfway decent talk show host. His show is NOT entertaining, he is NOT professional, and he is HORRIBLY misinformed, and those are just tidbits of his shortcomings.
He suffered from the same thing Denny Shaffer is suffering from now—TRYING to be entertaining at all cost DESPITE THE FACT that it’s crystal clear that he doesn’t have the NATURAL ability (which is required) to entertain the listening public. When one has the NATURAL ability to entertain, they don’t have to slander anyone in order to get a response. Nor do they have to lie through their teeth (all the time) in order to entertain. The job of a talk show host is to provide commentary and facts whenever necessary in an entertaining enough fashion to attract listeners to the show long enough to listen to commercials. WAOK couldn’t get any commercials for Coz’s show—in fact they can’t get commercials for ANY show on there, but that doesn’t seem to matter to WAOK. What led to Coz’s demise is all those slanderous comments, one that previously resulted in a lawsuit being filed against Infinity Broadcasting and himself. In fact, it was a very bad decision to bring him back when the lawsuit was STILL PENDING. Now they look TWICE as bad when they had to let him go again. However, unprofessional behavior is ok for WAOK—because black people (generally speaking) have LOW or virtually NO standards, and professionalism definitely isn’t important or else they would demand more from WAOK—“allegedlyâ€? the “voice of the communityâ€?. Thank God I’m not part of the “communityâ€? they’re a voice of.
Another problem with Coz’s show is that he didn’t welcome opposition. That is a BIG problem—especially when he’s on the WRONG side of most issues. This is the overall problem with liberal-based talk radio programs. When countered by the right (not politically, but overall) side of the issue, they can’t refute the opposing view without personally attacking, hanging up on, or talking over them. This is what Coz did. I have tape of a great conservative caller calling into Coz’s show, and he handled it terribly DESPITE THE FACT that the caller was very calm, patient, and more importantly, RIGHT. When you are on the RIGHT side of the issue, it is much easier to remain calm. This is what most conservative-based talk show hosts do. That’s why they are far more successful. Are they right all the time? Of course not—but when they aren’t (i.e. Neal Boortz and the abortion issue) they don’t act rational either. However, it’s far more the exception than the rule. That’s why they are more successful. If you took some time to actually LISTEN to their (Me—B.J. Ellis, Rush Limbaugh, Neal Boortz, Sean Hannity) shows, you will clearly recognize that they are far more informed, professional, and RIGHT on the issues than your beloved Coz Carson ever was. I do suggest that you get the racial “chipâ€? off your shoulder first before you listen, or else it will cloud your judgment.
Forgive me for the “academic journal. I just had to explain myself in full here.

BJ, do you actually believe that “black people (generally speaking) have LOW or virtually NO standards” in all aspects, or do you just stereotype everyone? Since you seem to indicate you are so much more professional and educated than so many others, I would have thought you would have been able to make your point without making stupid and inflamatory generalizations.

BJ…You are so transparent that its not even funny. Go somewhere else with that..You said all that blah blah blah just to say listen to 750 am..You are doing the same thing you claim Coz is doing..We don’t need to listen to a station that does nothing for the black community. Go SOMEWHERE ELSE WITH THAT FOOLISHNESS.
*IF YOU POST AGAIN, THAT LETS ME KNOW THAT YOU ARE A FOOL AND WANT TO CONTINUE TO PUSH THAT B.S
By B.J.

As badly as I should refrain from commenting to JOe, I must add a little something…
For your information, sir, it is not the duty OR responsibility of ANY radio station to DO anything “for the black community” other than ENTERTAIN them, if THEY are interested. The problem with people like you, sir is that you believe that providing a medium where you can simply blame “the man” or President George W. Bush for every POOR decision YOU made is “good for the community”. NOTHING is further from the truth. Endorsing liberal ideology all day when it is CLEARLY proven that it is destructive to the black community is NOT “good for the community”, sir.
Have you listened to 750? NO. Therefore, you have NO clue of what the programming on that station is about. I have listened to WAOK, however, and can confidently say that it is garbage radio at best, 100% useless at worse. The advertisers think so as well, sir. F.Y.I. there are TONS of black-owned businesses in Atlanta. It should puzzle even you that THEY don’t even want to advertise on that station. It’s only for TWO (2) reasons:
Why in the hell would someone in his or her right mind want to spend one cent advertising on that station? It’s like putting up a billboard on the South Pole.
As for this dependence on other entities other than yourself to do “something” for you, this is pitiful, coming from a male (no way can you be a REAL man talking like this). Can you do ANYTHING for yourself? Are you another one of these weak black men that need someone ELSE to “help” them survive? No wonder our race is in such disarray. You should use radio for ENTERTAINMENT purposes first, information second. It should never be used as a method of personal survival (unless there is a natural disaster or something).

Ellie: I answered your question in my previous post to yours. YES I do believe that GENERALLY SPEAKING, blacks have LOW or NO standards. Go to ANY urban area, and you will see the proof. Turn to ANY urban radio station, and you will see the proof. Turn to BET, and you will see the proof. Blacks (generally) will tolerate and accept absolutely ANYTHING. They don’t demand for anything of quality, and they darn sure don’t receive much in return. This is why it is so shocking to the mainstream when they find a black person (like myself, for example) that has high standards and values. I suggest you find out what “speaking in general” means. Hint: It does NOT mean ALL, EACH, or EVERY.

To Skip, Posting #4 above.
The Magicman formerly of V103 called me 10 days ago and I called him back and spoke to him for 40 minutes roughly. He is doing VERY well!!!He is working between 2 markets but I can’t reveal “in what” yet!
Big things are happening and coming. That’s why they call this brother “Magic”…. Just wait, cos good things come to those who wait. He left V103 last year in the late fall and said goodbye on the air.
Due to what I call the cursed old “NON COMPETE CLAUSE” a term in broadcasting that prevents us from working in the same market we quit or get fired from,( Remember Ryan Cameron could not work after he left HOT 1079?) Magic has to wait 6 months before he can surface again anywhere on Atlanta radio.
Visit Keminications.Com, my media news website. I actually had a message from Magic last week. It was specifically for all the ladies. He misses us all too. Magic told me to tell the guys he really appreciated your loyal listenership as well.
“Magic” like I say is coming out with big things! Stay tuned!!!Can’t give it to the haters JUST YET!

Once again Waok has dropped the ball.Coz Carson in my opinion was a very good talk show host.If one is a talk show host, all topics are fair game.Coz Carson didn’t run from any topics, but I guess WAOK does.
I feel this will continue to happen as long as Blacks don’t own a talk station, and I also feel there are people with a certain agenda, that want people to accept their agenda, and when someone doesn’t,host’s such as Coz are let go,because WAOK don’t want to deal with the pressure.

Keminications has received a bombshell letter from Talk how host BJ Ellis about a scandal at Atlanta’s Infinity cluster?
VISIT WWW.KEMINICATIONS.COM NOW! HERE ARE PORTIONS OF THE LETTER
This station believes that a “hip-hop” based real estate show is of great demand. There is an on-air talent with a drive-time radio show on WAOK that has a past history with crack-cocaine addiction that also has a PENDING 10 (TEN) million-dollar lawsuit against him and Infinity Broadcasting of Atlanta.

Simone—I strongly suggest that you read my comments I previously made to Prissy, because they could apply to you. Coz Carson might not have run from topics, but he sure ran from the opposing view—the view that usually was the FAR more accurate one out of the two.
I would love to know who you are comparing Coz to when it comes to “good” talk show hosts. Coz clearly isn’t good. He knew it, management at WAOK knew it, and the executives at Infinity Broadcasting (CBS Radio) knew it. If he was soooo good, then he would still be on the air. Remember he was given TWO golden opportunities to broadcast his pitiful show—the second chance AFTER he cost his employer a multi-million dollar lawsuit lodged against them.
There was some value to your statements, however. When you mention that we need black-owned talk stations, I agree with that point 100%. However, it might not be for the same reasons you think we should. It is because I believe that there is a concerted effort to suppress intelligent black thought in broadcast media. I wrote a brand new piece on this theory on my website—www.bjellis.com.
As for people having an agenda, WAOK certainly does. They have an all-out blitz to force-feed us non-stop civil-rights all day everyday in order to keep the checks coming in to useless and obsolete civil rights organizations from those that are ignorant enough to actually follow that nonsense spewed on that station. Thank goodness there are too many intelligent and successful blacks in this market to subscribe to that nonsense—as the 0.5-0.6 rating can attest. I pray you can open your mind, and allow yourself to become more educated on this subject.

A “hip hop based” real estate show on WAOK? This station obviously has no respect for its audience. It’s pretty revealing when a station thinks it has to “dumb down” a real estate show in order to attract Black listeners. What’s next? A daily national news show laced with Ebonics?

Eugene—you are way too late. WAOK already has that—and it’s called “Atlanta’s Best News”. Furthermore, they have a “financial” show in mid-day hosted by a man who couldn’t speak basic English if it guaranteed him the mega-millions lottery numbers the day before the drawing…

Even though Coz Carson seemed to have an issue against Hebrew Israelites of which I am. His show WAS actually one of the best shows on the station. People want our people to be journalist. To not have an opinion and to be politically correct. But white people are NOT held to that same FALSE standard. Coz spoke out against homosexuality. In Atlanta this is deemed as politically incorrect. WAOK did a huge disservice not only in firing Coz, but also in NOT hiring other personalities like him.

By Dante

Shelly Winter is a Coz wannabe. He is horrible. I think the people at WAOK wanted someone who would go again the grain in order to make people mad get so upset that they would listen more just to take a shot at this guy. BJ, Coz was not misinform, you are. Stop drinking the KOOL-AID. Every issue Coz presented, he had facts that backed him up. This Shelly guy is trying hard to be liked, but he is not succeeding. He has often eaten his own words when callers call up and debate him. Also, BJ, I see that you have referred to your website again. You now have about 99 more times to make my prediction true.

Dante—where’s YOUR website? ::crickets chirping:: I thought so. You have been discredited long ago, and the only reason I’m responding to you now is to inform the new readers of this blog on who you are. It has been confirmed that you are employed at the Infinity Atlanta affiliate, or at least somehow associated with it, so there’s no doubt that you are going to be partial here. I suggest you take the LISTENER comments back to your hero in chief, Rick Caffey, and tell him to ditch this FAILING and OBSOLETE civil-rights dogma. Then someone can focus on putting QUALITY programming on WAOK. Furthermore, you have alleged that Coz always had facts, could you please enlighten us on two?

Coz was truly the Rhino. Infomative, controversial, but most of all interesting. I enjoyed every moment of his views on the present administration, especially “Sniggling George”. However, the powers that be, could not deal with the truth. I will miss him and can no longer be bored listening to WAOK. I am back to Frank Ski in the morning. Lorraine Jacque White has her own little club of wannabe philospers and it is so predictable who will call and give their old-fashioned out-date views. Bye WAOK!!

Sheri: You are definitely entitled to your opinion, however Coz and the truth are FAR from synonymous. Bashing the President with no factual substance is far from “speaking the truth”. Furthermore, WAOK is a boring radio station—with or without Coz. If you believe I’m wrong, then I would love for you to enlighten us with some EXAMPLES of the “truths” Coz Carson used to speak. Simply SAYING Coz spoke the truth without providing examples isn’t enough. The REAL truth of the matter is that he was nothing more than yet another emotionally charged liberal VOID of facts, logic, or anything of intellectual value to add to the conversation.

CM—You are on to something here. To say “Shelly” is horrible is one, a tremendous understatement, and two, a tremendous insult to black conservatives. He is NOT a conservative. He just fit the mold that station wanted to display OF a conservative, a “soft” male (not man) with a flaggoty (without the L) name. What they should have done is put Scott Davis on the air in that slot. He had a good audition show, and he got great feedback from listeners, good calls, and interesting bumper music. Funerals have more livelier music than the bumper music “Shelly” uses on that piece of crap of a show.
I can understand why they didn’t even give me an audition show. First, because they knew it would knock this city upside down, and second, because I’m giving the management there more hell than they could ever handle. The Coz firing is another sign of the “crow” that they are eating, and the last thing they want to do is concede the dialogue to me—despite the fact that I was clearly right all along…
However, there is NO excuse for Scott being passed over. It is highly insulting to him that they put this clearly untalented, unproven, and downright terrible person on the air when they KNEW that Scott had a very effective show. This is more confirmation of the total contempt that CBS Radio has for black people. Where’s Kenye West when you actually need him to make the statement?

I’m actually elated that WAOK finally got rid of Coz Carlson. He was the epitome of a mad man with very little substance. As a gay male, I was greatly offended by Coz’s disparaging of the gay community and I vehemently disagreed with the disdain he depicted to many of his callers. It is the faithful listeners in the community that makes WAOK what it is today, and Coz’s lack of respect for that fact is why he is no longer on the air.

Coz was a raving nutcase. I don’t think he ever conducted any research on the issues that he spoke about other than what he may have heard on the car radio during his drive to work.
