4/19: Buzz mocks 99X
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
105.3/The Buzz’s morning host Whip, who has already mocked Leslie Fram, is now making fun of the fact 99X keeps referencing Jimmy even though he isn’t even under contract anymore with the station. Whip is now saying that it’s the Whip & Jimmy show and that Jimmy just happens to be out. So Jimmy Baron is now so popular, he doesn’t even need to be working at a radio station to get credit. Whip declined to comment whether he plans to ride the joke more the rest of the week or whether this was just a one-day deal.

The Buzz needs to get a life and focus on its own crappy playlist and bratty staff. Truth is, nobody really cares about the Buzz - not even its current demo is loyal to it. It’ll be another Viva within a year.

99X is brilliant!!! They can promote a cast of thousands yet never hire anyone. For example, “This is everything alternative, 99X. Walter Cronkite, Jennifer Lopez, Fred Toucher, Tom Cruise, Howard Stern, Wally, the Beastie Boys, Kevin Smith, Michelangelo, Fat Kid, Neal Armstrong, and Jimmy are all off today, but I’m Axel in with Leslie Fram…”

Rumor has it that the new owners are going to be turning it into a Country station soon. I guess Jimmy and Leslie could move down to B98 or the River since it caters to an older crowd huh?

“…It’ll be another Viva within a year…”
Hey Dave,
Do you realize that La Viva is one of the top revenue and ratings producers in the Atlanta metro market???
God, you’re an idiot!

What rumors? Outside of people who have nothing to do with the station.
I mean, what do the country stations pull in? Total 8 share 12+? Sticking another country in there will only take a share or 2 away from Kicks, making them still the winner 4-2. That pie isn’t big enough to cut into 4 slices.
Rock in Atlanta, 6. And about half of the CHR numbers and you get over 11.
Plus, you look the 15ish years of ad loyalty X has built up.
Stop watching Private Parts. They’re not handing out cowboy hats to the jocks.

Seth,
Exactly, Viva makes money, THAT IS WHY the Buzz will be Viva Dos within a year. Seth, you’re a raging moron.

I dont think you are going to see a format change especially to Country. The Country format in this market is dead to listeners and advertisers unless you sell pickup trucks. 99x isnt going anywhere, but I know that there are changes coming to the group once the takeover is complete.
PS the next format change in this market is most likley Dave. Congratulations Dave on being the only station in that format genre to fail. Give us Free fm and start over.

The Buzz, as annoying as it is, especially with the fact that they lurk in here and often plant crap about 99x constantly from 9a-5p, is a good choice for CC in Atlanta. They bring a stronger overall male number when combined with 96 Rock which is growing again. When you can combo sell the two it becomes much more attractive to us advertisers. Besides the Buzz is cheap buy and there isnt much radio in ATL that is cheap to buy.

Who isn’t mocking 99x?

A low rated Clear Channel station mocking a competitor. What’s next, a lecture on fidelity from Randall Bloomquist?

For sure 99X was great with Toucher Jimmy and Leslie and it will never be the same … why don’t they give Mitch Evans a shot at sitting in with Axel and Leslie?? He certainly brings a heck of a lot more personality and energy than Axel does. Sometimes I feel that Axel is clueless - and he certainly isn’t funny. Give Mitch Evans a chance! He really is a solid talent.

Doug, you make a good point. The Mitch was entertaining on 790, and while he brings alot of energy to an otherwise now-lifeless morning show on 99x, he’s being under-utilized doing traffic and 1 sportscast a day.

Keep in mind it’s not just the on-air “personalities” that’s losing 99X listeners; it’s the music and lack of variety. I’m not a devoted listener, and I recognize that their playlist is getting stale. Jay Harren’s Sunday School program is the only two hour block that has any sort of differentiation, and it’s only once a week. And even that is hit or miss, but at least it’s not “Man in the Box” again.

Great point about Mitch. I missed him when he left 790 - he was a great guy to play off of. Axel is so not funny (frankly the few times I listened it was painful). Give The Mitch a shot — maybe his co-host could be his wife Randy.

Excellent point about Mitch. What’s wrong with the morning show now can be exemplified by today’s segment with Louis Perrico. Listeners called in for a contest, but one of them won so quickly that Axel had to explain “we didn’t have a chance to get to the funny questions.” I seriously doubt that the “funny” questions were really funny (especially with Wally gone), but what does it say about a station when they can’t even manage a simple contest?

Axel’s not a morning show host to begin with, and then when he’s left hung out to dry with just Leslie to banter with, it’s even more obvious. Maybe they should let Mitch sit in more. He’s opinionated and high energy. But, I’m not sure that would be enough to save Axel from himself. The guy’s a boob.

Whip is an idiot that thinks he is funny when he is not. I like Aly she is funny and doesnt sound like a jackass. 1053 just needs to think about themselves and not worry about what other stations are doing.

Whip may be a little juvenile but at least he’s not as boring as Axel & Leslie’s Naptime show.
I’m moving more and more to The Buzz since they’ve got a better playlist and don’t take themselves too seriously. 99x’s ego is why it’s failing - they’ve become complacent and too full of themselves. Give me the underdog anyday.
And I hate to admit it, but I crack up at both their 99x jabs and the Chuck Norris Spots.
