8/10: Remember Sean Demery?

sean demery.jpg

I heard a rumor that Sean Demery, currently at Live 105 in San Francisco, may be coming back to Atlanta. Demery was a keystone figure in the 1990s on 99X as an afternoon jock. More information to come. Joey Mills, who said he’s buddies with Sean, said Sean laughed when he heard the rumor and said he’s happy where he is. Sean repeated that to me. “I got nothin’ ” he said. He said he talks to Leslie but only about music, not about any job back in Atlanta. And the prospect of waking up at 3 a.m.? Not something he relishes. So sorry about that. Fun rumor, though.

But where is Will? Sean was good, but Will was great!

Wasn’t Will program director when 99X was breaking new acts and playing a great selction of music?

Sean Demery was one best djs that 99X had. He needs to comeback to 99X & help bring that station back to its glory days. If that is possible.

Will is on satalite radio. Would love to hear Sean local again. Is 99x morning show slot filled yet from the job posting?? Interesting thought….

It would great to have him back. I just hope he doesn’t start crying and play “Bittersweet Symphony” again….SEVEN times in a row! :)

Wow, the memories. Where were you when you realized ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ was being played a bunch of times in a row????

I was on I75 Southbound near GTech…stuck in traffic of course!

I was sitting on my bed trying to do my math homework. I hated “Bitterswwet Symphony” for years after Sean had a marathon with it.

I forgive Sean, though. He was one of my favorite aspects of 99X back in the day, along with Will, Steve, and the loved-to-hate-it morning show.

I just e-mailed Sean. SF is nice and lovely and has no plans to come back. Sean would be the only reason I would come back to 99x. You can hear Sean’s radio station at www.live105.com. You can hear Toucher, Rich and Crash over at www.wbcn.com. 2 stations that sound a helleva lot better than 99x.

Demery was the only reason I listened to 99X in the first place.

Hi I am now inside Fred Toucher’s intestinal tract where I have been burrowed in for a few hours now and even in here Fred sounds funny. It is hard to make out what Rich and Crash are saying but who cares I have never been happier in my life.

I love Fred and I don’t….I love Fred and I don’t…. I love Fred and I dont’.

Time to get that broken record taken care of.

I’ll have whatever Joey Mills is having

And Sean Demery in the mornings with Axel back in the afternoons would be great.

This Mills guy as some serious love for Toucher and the gang …running around promoting them all over Atlanta Radio blogs and forums, banging the phones of CBS radio (completely ineffective) trying to get them to DaveFM.

it’s a little creepy.

until of course you google this dude and then it all becomes clear what his intentions are…

Take a guess… rhymes with O’Tay

NOTE: The real Joey Mills says this is not him though it’s fairly obvious it’s a parody. Rodney

Oh stop that you sill boy Phatz. My love for Freddie goes beyond the physical and into the metaphysical. I haven’t washed my cheek since he kissed it at this going away party. I love him, I love him, I love him. I am never going to let him go.

Just a wierd question from someone recently moved to Atlanta….why do all female traffic reporters on the radio in Atlanta sound like men? It is really annoying. When I first got here in the winter I kept wanting them to clear their throat or take a cough drop until it became summer and I discovered that that really was their voice and weren’t just sick.

Curious,

I think you may not be used to women who talk with a sense of purpose and not just about “whatcha thinking?” or “why don’t we ever just talk anymore?”

Ha ha

Back when 99X was best, the lineup was Morning X, Steve, Axel, Sean, and Will (or as Jimmy called him, Wilpen). And each of them had a unique show.

I could tell who the DJ was by what kind of music was playing. I remember the program director calling Will one night asking, “Will, are you playing Tony Bennett on my radio station?”

Will: “Uhhhhhhhh….. no……”

But he was, of course, and it was great.

To me, really good DJ’s who got to play music that THEY thought was good - that’s what 99X doesn’t have anymore.

Kenn sums up 99x of the early-mid 90’s quite well with his comments. I was a huge fan of Sean’s afternoon drive program, including the Swingin’ Velveeta Lounge. Upon his departure, 99x hasn’t felt the same since - it lost a big chunk of its soul (in my opinion) when Sean left and hasn’t really held my attention very well since then.

Didn’t Sean also lock himself in the studio for a few hours and play Metallica nonstop? If I’m remembering correctly, its what started Axel’s Mandatory Metallica bit.

It was also a sad day when Will Pendarvis was chainsawed.

Ah memories :-)

Man…you guys are chokin’ me up. First Yvonne Monet gets name-dropped on this blog, now Sean Demery (and Will Pendarvis). Good grief, at least memory lane has a good radio station.

I liked Fred a bunch, but I loved Sean! I cried when he played his last song. Yeah, I am a sap.

Didn’t he also play the Tony Bennett (Steppin Out) song a bunch of times in a row?

We miss you Sean!

Will can heard on Faction (channel 28) on Sirius satellite radio. His facetious myspace page is at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=17511699

Oh, thanks Rodney. I have Sirius. It will be hard for to change the channel from Little Steven’s Underground Garage, but I will give it a shot.

I remember when the chain sawed Will. Hilarious! Remember his roommate?
