3/13: Kimmer to retire (UPDATED)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Kim “The Kimmer” Peterson, who was dismissed by WGST-AM after more than a decade of service in November, has decided to retire.
His agent Bob Eatman said he had received a solid job offer last week and told Peterson about it. (He wouldn’t say which station.). But Peterson Monday told Eatman he decided not to take it.
“He’s very intent on relaxing and playing golf,” said Eatman, who also represents former Regular Guy Eric Von Haessler (no radio job at the moment), former 99Xer Jimmy Baron (ditto), WSB-AM’s Clark Howard, Q100’s Bert Weiss and his co-host Jen Hobby. “He’s just ready for that.”
The Kimmer got back to me at 6 p.m. after leaving a golf course in Palm Beach, Fla., where he’s visiting his brother. He said he seriously considered the job, which he wouldn’t identify. “It would have been great. But in my heart of hearts, I don’t want to work for four or five more years. Since I’m able to retire, I’m just calling it quits.”
But he said he might get the bug again, he said, in a couple of years.
He said toward the end of his run at GST, “I was feeling kind of burned out. But I am now enjoying my semiretirement.” Financially, he said he’ll be fine.
On his Web site, www.kimmershow.com, he’s selling two of his prized custom bikes. He’s not doing it for financial reasons, he said. “I’m just downsizing,” he noted. “I have too many toys!” (He has a third bike and a Jag.)
Peterson was best known for his gregarious laugh, his trademark catchphrases (“I gotta go. You’re killing me!” and “Semper Fi!” are just two) and his unwavering patriotism. His ratings did drop off a bit in recent years, along with the rest of WGST. And in his final year, he lost most of his staff, including Wayne “No Offense” Kitchens and Pete Davis.

Kimmer never had anyone of substance on his show and never seriously tackled an issue. The show was just about his pov. If you disagreed, you were branded an idiot or he hung up on you. He didn’t allow public figures on his show that disagreed because he couldn’t stand the heat.

Now I really liked Kimmer. He even set me up with a “Mahagony Babe” about 8 years ago… Didn’t work out though that GOD (I’m a brotha in case y’all wanna get upset)! But he’s the same as he was 8 years ago. Pretty stale if you asked me. Did he really retire or could he NOT GET ANOTHER JOB!!!!? Either way, he should just go off into the sunset. He’s definitely an original. However, the times have changed and his market was sucked away from him… Can you say “DINOSAUR”??! He’ll be missed though… I would check him out for about 15 minutes or so on the way home probably once or twice a month. That may be the reason why his market share disappeared. I heard he was fired for some comments against Muslims or something… Oh well… I only listen to Boortz, Hannity, and 790theZone!

A good rest is what you need. You sounded pretty bitter at the end. Always calling people who disagreed with you “scumbag,” tht fake laugh, the tired Marine chanting. You once had a sense of humor and it was somewhat entertaining. Try to look at yourself, see why you got bounced and then come back. There’s always room for second acts.

Kimmer was one of the last real personalities on ATL radio. Since coming here from Chicago 10yrs ago, Atlanta was has always been a slagger for radio on all fronts. First the GreaseMan was gone, then The Regular Guys - and now Kimmer. ATL radio management have a lot to learn on what really draws listeners.

Thank GOD that hate-filled fruit Peterson is gone from Atlanta radio forever! What the article didn’t say was that the “offer” Kimmer got was a part-time “sidekick” job that paid less than $20K. No wonder he turned it down - he couldn’t stand the ego stomping of taking it. Kim Peterson is a drunk with bladder control problems. Now he has to sell his free motorcyles off to pay the bills (including huge alimony from his second divorce). What a humiliating end to a disgraceful and useless “career.” Next stop: The Oblivion Retirement Home for Hate Filled Republican Idiots. See ya, fool!

I did think he was semi lucid until he was impropmtly thrust onto the Southside/Rhodes show before it was cut. Seems he ran into a fracas with some war protester at a Vetrans Day function and he was on the radio to preen about it. During the interview he said being in Vietnam was “My Pleasure!”. HIS PLEASURE?!?!?!? I about fell off my chair onto the floor.

Kimmer. A legacy of hatred. From his constant racial and anti-gay gay sneers to the daily diatribe against Clinton and the Democrats. Hmmm. Looks like Kimmer is out in the trash along with Libby, Delay, Foley, and Haggard. Love it!!

I love how a writer says “Kimmer never had anyone of substance on his show and never seriously tackled an issue”. That is ballpark close but the real truth is Kimmer thought his red neck conservativeness was substance and has a bunch of mama boys that liked to hear themselves talk agree with him. His value is running around the bowl just like the popularity of this administration. Senator Joseph McCarthy and the Kimmer have left the building.

Kimmer was hilarious at times, you have to admit. Maybe you didn’t like his “Archie Bunker-like” machinations at times, but the man was funny. And Snake Davis was excellent. Wayne, no Offense, was good. Remember Conyer’s own Keith Kalland?, God rest his soul. Those were the best of years on the Kimmer Show.
Admit it, there were times when you’d be driving home and wondering how on Earth someone just got away with saying such things on the radio! And laugh and laugh and laugh.

What is wussy about any of these postings? Liberal or conservative? I see nothing wussy here at all. You are assuming that the folks saying good riddance are Democrats. Would it surpirse you that I am not? I am glad he is gone. There was not alot of truth in much he said. Like fighting in Nam was for our freedom. Cleary it was not! WWII was for our freedom.

Heston, and you’re the Kimmer.” “What?, no!”
“Coach Reeves!! I wish you wouldn’t fool the Kimmer like that.” “Why not? It’s not like I’ve got a football team to run anymore.” “Coach, I’m sure something’ll turn up for you.” “Why, have you heard anything?”

You hate-filled animals… why are you so angry at Kimmer? I for one will miss him… he’s the only person in Atlanta, and one of the very few in radio in general, who stands up for traditionl, conservative American values. He supports our troops, our hard-working blue-collar workforce and our families. What the hell do you people prefer? Al Franken and his liberal left-wing garbage? How about Atlanta corporate radio that spews 8,000 commercials an hour and 10 minutes of content? or our WIDE VARIETY of music choices - country, modern rock, country, top-40, country, more modern rock, and country? Gimme a break - Kimmer was entertaining and down-to-earth, and he will be missed by many. You whiny liberals wouldn’t know entertainment if it bit you on your organic a**. Adios, Kimmer. I tend to be moderate politcally but when he started to spew anti-Semitic crap, I reported him to the FCC, which said they would take the complaint and check into it. I also made a formal complaint to the station GM and to Clear Channel. There is NO PLACE on radio for anyone who uses the mask of conservatism to shield his personal racial bias. I’ve read other posts in the past, noting that the Kimmer is anything but racist; you could have fooled me by what I heard, not once, not twice, but repeatedly. Had he targeted blacks, not Jews, he would have been run out of town on a rail. Ultimately, the Kimmer was a local second-rate Sean Hannity. And the Semper Fi schtick was getting old.

Bad things happen to bad people. Kimmer was not a good person. He would not listen to an opinion if it differed from his. He only wanted to hear from people that praised him and his opinion. I’m glad he is gone!
Why didn’t he announce his retirement in November after he got FIRED? Maybe it’s because he CAN’T find another job!

This Kimmer was nothing but a dirtbag. His show stunk and was not funny. Real conservatives wanted nothing to do with him.
He did typify the right wing prophecy however beating up people who didnt agree with him, getting a divorce from the ‘fantasy goddess’, and sucking wind for the last 2 years of his tired routine.
Enjoy your retirement in the NEW United States, Kimmer…one that doesn’t include your views.

He was old, tired, and worn out…esp. the last 2 years. Dave Ramsey is a decent replacement…with a show that informs and entertains.

Thanks Kimmer for many great years and a lot of fun. Enjoy yourself- you have earned it.
Thanks to Pete, Wayne and the rest of the crew. Thanks to Keith, rest his soul.
Hey, “the truth hurts”: There is more people out there that share Kimmer’s views then do not. Don’t forget Conservatives have a sense of humor too. Where is yours?
And no, “bonzo” (should be Bozo), “Semper Fi” never gets old. It is, after all, why you can say what you say.
Semper Fi!
I got to go, you’re killing me!

Well I think that WSBs market share went up….to think Clear Channel (with Hannity and Combs) was what got me listening to talk radio! Way to go there Marketing Director at WGST….I mean I will agree that Mr. Callahan’s death was one (forgive the pun) nail in the WGST coffin you did not pound—but this is probably the tombstone!

The following morons helped kill WGST and should be put in jail:
Nancy Zintak, Ian Punnett, Tim Dukes, Pat McDonnell, Bruce Collins, Jerry Del Core, Tammy Lloyd, Randall Bloomquist, Marc Chase, Chuck Deskins, John Hogan, Tom Houck, and Eric Cartman.
All we have now are the memories of The News Monster and the great folks who were once on the air including:
The KING!, The KIMMER, The Tin Man, Snake Davis, Wayne No Offense, Sam Memmolo, Dave McBride, Dr. Gene, John Adams, Harry Beadle, Stephanie DeLuca, Jeremy Ferguson, Danny McLefty, Larry & Eric when they sat in for The Kimmer, and of course, The Late Great KEITH KALLAND.

Enjoy your retirement, Kimmer. You’ve certainly earned it after all those years of dealing with incompetent P.D.’s and listening to liberal morons. Now that I now know that you don’t plan on being back anytime soon, I can quit reading Mr. Ho’s column and the idiot’s that figured out to use a computer. Good luck, and “fair winds and following seas”, jarhead.

To all of those who hated Kimmer and never like anything he did or said. To all who say ” we won’t miss him”. Why didn’t you have someone teach you how to change your radio station so you didn’t have to listen to him? If there is so many better things gooing on in your lives, why are you reading this and posting stupid comments.

Good Luck Kimmer. I think as people we need to stop being to full of hate and start thinking about the fact that we are all people just trying to get through life the best we can. While you all sit here and try to tear down a person, your letting your city, state and country go to hell and all of you are doing nothing about it.
I urge you to read and find the facts on how to take back our nation. It is slipping away and even thought the Kimmer was a little on the edge of the right, if you listened closely you could hear the message. We are losing our country to Multi-nationals, Illegal Immigrants and Politicians who work for Money and not the people.
The Kimmer may be gone, but our country is not. Wake up before you realize we were right and should have taken up this fight years ago and instead we all stood around picking on a radio talk show host.

Kimmer was right. He put people in their place and pointed out facts. He amde the truth hurt and that is what put people on edge-they would not take responsibility for their actions. We need the illegals out as they broke the law-Breaking and Entering is ot only for residences but for countries. Enjoy Kimmer-you deserve a quiet retirement.

Best wishes for a long and enjoyable retirement Jarhead! By all the responses on this blog it just shows that you made an impression of so many people (especially the negative ones - it shows you hit some sore spots on some bed wetting Liberals!). You’ll be sorely missed on the airwaves, but more than welcomed to return if the opportunity comes. My collection of CD’s is just not the same as the laughter I enjoyed on my way home in the afternoons. WGST must be out of their mind if they thing I’m going to hear about people who make stupid life decisions on the Dave Ramsey Show (usually Liberals). Like Ron White always says - you can’t fix stupid :)

Kimmer, I had the pleasure of hearing you just about every afternoon while you were at 640/WGST. I disagreed with you at times, cursed you at times, laughed with you as well. Now, much like the period of time after Keith Kalland passed away, there is a big hole in my afternoon drive. You are missed and I hope to hear you on air again someday. SEMPER FIDELIS!

To: “Patriotic With Sense” Re: March 13, 2007 4:29 PM posting If you, or anyone else on this blog, heard Peterson’s entire interview Veterans Day 2005 on the Southside/Rhodes show, please call me at 404/626-2840. One witness has come forward who heard him describing the “fracas” just a few hours after he, unprovoked and with an Atlanta police officer bird-dogging me for him, intercepted me with his car while I was crossing Beverly Rd in front of WSB, jumped out and knocked me down for telling the truth on my sign, which got thumbs up from uniformed Army personnel in the Parade. Wayne Kitchens, and a Cobb police officer/former Marine then jumped on my legs.
If you believe in Truth, Justice, and the Rule of Law, and are willing to be deposed and/or witness in Court, please call me. His “stunt” cost me, a Vietnam-era Regular Army Veteran, and my family a $40,000 operation to repair the shoulder he used his face to wear out, and more than a year’s work I lost as a carpenter. What he said during that show right after his attack proves he and his cronies were lying to the Magistrate Court judge when I tried to get a Warrant against him myself. The day Peterson told his audience that the Detective assigned the case wouldn’t be charging him was the very day the detective got the assignment. This Atlanta police officer, sworn to Serve and Protect, later told me “[I] deserved what I got.” It isn’t enough that Bush-apologist Peterson has lost his microphone. Police officers willing to help him attack Freedom of Speech need to be “re-educated” as well.

Kimmer, I pray God’s best for you in whatever you chose to do I miss your show and would listen wherever it was played, even on the internet. If you choose to chase the ever changing world of bogies and birdies, I pray you find peace and enjoyment. Thanks for many happy hours in the futile world of Atlanta trafic. You helped make it more tolerable. God bless!

Good Luck, my friend, the Kimmer you are sorely missed. I cannot believe the number of folks who cannot let by-gones be by-gones. It is sad that people cannot just mind their own business and simply get on with their lives as you are doing. Between you, Tom Hughes, and Phil Hendrie disappearing from WGST, I hardly listen to the station anymore. Just in case you never knew, I will let you in on a secret. I was the munchkin voice of the Wade Medlock I’m in the Kudzu! comment that it seems no one ever forgot. I even had the radio station (WGST) use a copy of my fax I sent to you reprinted in their ad in the Atlanta Business Chronicle in 1993. I had endless laughs and will never forget you. Happy Trails. Formerly Bob in Stone Mountain, then Bob in Snellville now Bob in McDonough.

I no longer listen to WGST in the morning or drive-home time. I did send email to the station, but of course got no response. The only decent show broadcasting now is Rush Limbaugh and I suppose I’ll listen to the Braves’ games, but WGST has just about lost me for good.
Kimmer, whereas I was at times thinking your humor was in extremely bad taste, most of the time I really enjoyed the light nature of your show and realized that my sense of humor was about as warped as yours. Good luck in the future; we miss you.

Why all the vitriol? The Kimmer was harmless and one of the few upbeat talk radio shows still on. Yes, he had that forced laugh of his. Yes, he didn’t bother to prepare too well for the political debate part of the show, and yes, he was sometimes a flag-waver blind to reality, but he, with his support staff and callers, had some funny moments and it was a nice change of pace from the equally flag waving and cheerleading Sean Hannity, who never saw a Republican he didn’t want to smooch on the tushy.
I sensed a sadness in the Kimmer and wondered why his marriage broke up. I think he was forcing himself to keep working the last few years. Maybe a few years off will recharge his batteries.
And I have always voted Republican, btw…so I come by my opinion on Hannity honestly.

My wife and I will miss the Kimmer. Its not the same without him on the radio. I know some people didn’t care for his style or content, but we all don’t share the same beliefs. You have to be open minded enough to listen and respect other peoples opinions. Take from it what you will and go about you own business.

Kimmer was not original. He, like Limbaugh, Boortz & Hannity, were too right wing. They all preached the SAME sermon. They worship George W Bush as if he’s God, and they are all old, white, racist, snotty, has-beens. By the way, somebody needs to take Hannity to see a psycho-therapist. That man is so off the chain with his head so far up George Bush’s butt that it’s pathetic.

Thanks Jomama for the invitation to tune in to listen to Boortz but I refuse to listen to any of those “old white men” anymore because they’re such rude butt kissers. I now choose to do something more constructive during my drive to and from work: LISTEN TO A BOOK ON CD! The election is not until late 2008 and there is no way I can spend almost 2 years listening to them talk about Hillary (whom I don’t support) like she’s the anti-Christ. After so long, that crap gets OLD!
