4/12: Now CBS has fired Imus
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Well, this was predictable after MSNBC and national advertisers bailed on Don Imus after his insensitive remarks regarding the Rutgers women’s basketball team. Now CBS Radio has dropped him..
Fair, unfair? Was this the proper punishment? Did this go too far?
Did Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton “take him down,” as WSB-AM’s Chris Krok said tonight? Did the sponsors “buckle”? as one of his callers say. Will this have a chilling effect on free speech?
Here was a summary of what was Imus’ last radio show Thursday morning while doing his radiothon..

Beginning tomorrow, I plan to write a complaint letter to the FCC everytime I hear some hip hop thug sing about hos on a radio station. What’s good for Imus is good for the scum that passes itself off as talent.

Don Imus is one of the all-time great djs. I listened to him in the 1960s and 70s and he was an inspiration to my career in radio. Anybody who’s been on the air that long knows what is acceptable and what’s not and is totally trained(or should be)to avoid speaking without thinking. He’s walked the line for a long time and this time, he fell off the wire.

Another victory for “Political Correctness” CBS caves for all the wrong reasons. Imus was wrong, but no more than Jackson was in 1994 when he blamed the Albany, GA floods on the white people. He begged for compassion and forgiveness when he was caught having a child out of wedlock, but he has no compassion for anyone else that makes a mistake.

Once again, the blacks whine and complain and someone gets fired. The man was joking people. I am so sick and tired of the double standard. Call me a racist, its the truth. Any black person who considers Al Sharpton their spokesperson should have their head examined. Nappy headed ho’s Nappy headed ho’s… oh damn I hope I dont get fired for saying that. Sooner or later someone will be fired for using the term “black” when referring to AFRICAN AMERICANS. What a load of B.S.

CBS did not fire Imus. The sponsors fired Imus. Once the advertising revenue started to dry up, Imus was tossed under the bus. It is all about money. This is the free market at work!
And please, trying to use rap music as an excuse for Imus rants is pathetic, and very whiny. Imus and his sidekick made racist comments about some very hardworking and accomplished young ladies. Nothing anybody else has said, is saying or will say exonerates Imus for his statements.

Sir,
For all of you complaining about CBS firing Don Imus, it was a market decision. His advertisers like P&G, General Motors, and others were dropping him. And when you do not pull in the advertisers, then your show is not profitable and therefore, you have to go.
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton did not force out Don Imus, the market did.

Can I just say for the record that as foul as some of the rap lyrics are, they are not allowed to refer to women as b!the5 and “hos” on public airwaves, the content must be edited. and that people is because of FCC rules! So go ahead and write your letters. You HATERS will continue to whine anyway. And it’s so funny to me how you all bash rap as talentless and garbage, yet all your kids are the ones supporting and buying it. Guess you are doing a great job of raising them huh?? Phonies.

Wussies.
It’s ok for a black rapper to degrade women, call them ho’s and records fly off the shelves. But once a white person says something “racial” it’s all over. I don’t see anything racial about the word HO…..I bet they get REAL offended when Santa clause says Ho Ho HO…….why hasn’t that been an issue??????
I see nothing wrong with Nappy Head hos. Been to a local high school lately where all the boys are referring to themselves as pimps and all the girls are hos? Why hasn’t the school been shut down????? And all the white kids sent home, and MADE to apologize to the black kids????
Double standard….PC correctness. we have become a nation of wussies!!!! No wonder the blacks want an apology for slavery…….
If we apologize for slavery, can Racism end??????NO, because someone will ALWAYS be crying.

No Erik sorry that is not the case. Did you campaign to save Tim Hardaway’s job? Just curious.
And freedom of speech relates to our statements and ideas against the government of this country. That was the premise of freedom of speech. It did not speak at all of standards of decency over public airwaves nor did freedom of the press.
I’ll throw in the faces of all you hypocrites the statement that you like you use when it suits your purpose (like 911 and illegal wiretaps):
FREEDOM ISN’T FREE!!

For all of your who are ignorant about the first amendement, here is what it says:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
THEREFORE, the first amendment is applied so people WILL NOT BE PROSECUTED BY GOVERNMENT. IT DOES NOT OFFER ANY PROTECTION FROM BEING FIRED BY AN PRIVATE EMPLOYER FOR SAYING SOMETHING STUPID.
It was a pleasure teaching you this Political 101 lesson.

I am of the belief that you have a right to say whatever you want whenever you want but with this right comes great responsibility. Imus should be allowe to say what he feels but in the real world their are consequences for your actions. In the first place you cannot confuse rap albums which someone buys by his or her own choice with a National Syndicated talk show. If Imus made a comedy album and said the same comment he would not have this issue. Also the people who are talking about blacks crying obviously have no idea of what is like to be a minority and should speak about what they know and not what they think.

Good morning all. This is one blog I feel the need to chime in on.
To Joe Lee, I am a black person, person of color, African American or whatever the title is today, and I DO NOT think that Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Bill Cosby or any other person of that nature is my “Spokesperson.” I can speak for myself.
I agree with the fact that a number of rap artist degrade women in their lyrics. As long as we continue to purchase their music, they will feel that it is acceptable. It’s not and for that reason I don’t purchase rap music. Personally I don’t think Don Imus should have been fired. Yes, he should have apologized to those ladies, and perhaps paid a fine, but fired, no. The media always has a way of taking things totally out of context and shining light on things that aren’t earth shattering. Our country is one big RACIAL MESS.

Can any of you people name any rap song that says the b-word,the n-word,or hoes on public radio?? you can’t you have to buy the cd’s to hear the cursing.BET shows raunchy videos by rappers, but it is on cable so you have to pay for it,they do not show rap videoes on public tv.Dave Chapplle show is on the comedy network which is a cable channell you have to pay for. understand the reason he got fired is because he said those remarks on public airwaves. Can any of you Imus supporters and free speech supports say “nappy head hoes” at your job? I don’t care if you work at Mcdonalds or IBM you would be fired if you said that at the workplace. That is why he was fired!

That is not the first time I hear that and the rapper use more derrogatory word to call themselves then he did…If at all * fire the guys in new jersey for setting up a system call catch a cucarrach* now that is crossing the line. I guess we are in a world where we can complain about anything…..The man meant no disrespect and he clearly tried apologizing. We all make mistakes.

Are you guys serious??? It doesn't matter WHO says "nappy head hos", be it rappers, talk show hosts or whoever…the term is negative and wrong. These young ladies are future doctors, lawyers, teachers, or even presidents and to be casually referred to as whores to get a cheap laugh is unexceptable. Imus deserved to be fired,if for nothing else, for being cold and vicious to slander young women who did nothing to him other than play basketball….and who's next for Imus to slander?? Will Oprah, Condolezza Rich, or Maya Angelou be next to be called nappy headed ho's?….Maybe, as Imus sits in his rocking chair and pines for the good old days where you could insult blacks and get away with it, he will think twice before he opens his mouth….

Jay is correct about what ‘freedom of speech’ really means. What Imus said was really slander and he could be sued for it. Freedom of speech does not give one the right to slander someone or a group of people. I’m a white woman with curly hair. If he called me a nappy headed ho, I would sue him.
What the rappers are saying on their records, while distasteful to me, is not directed toward a specific person or group of people. It’s not slander. And, if people weren’t buying their records, they would stop making them. A lot of their records are being bought by white kids from the burbs.
If kids are walking around in school calling themselves pimps and hos, then they must have very low self esteem. If they think that calling themselves that is funny, then the parents of these kids are doing a seriously crappy job of raising them.
Anyone like Imus who has an opportunity to set an example for others, should have more class.

Ever heard of “Girls Gone Wild”- that disrespectful, immoral and degrading crap. Stop yelling rap music and videos… all this crap is demeaning. What Imus did was make it personal. Had a rapper called someone personally a ho, I’d suggest that person protest and I’d stand 1000% behind them. However rappers many times speak the truth in harsh language- about groupies AKA Ho’s. I think it is about time to stand up for the content on these rap videos- the music oh well you have to purchase it. Although MTV, VH1 and BET “bleep” out the harsh language… the images are likened to Playboy and Hustler mags. But until we- the overwhelming majority take the same proactive stand we did here recently; the sponsers will continue to look away. As they should… the market speaks for itself

It’s amazing that many of you commenting on rap haven’t said that white men are the ones allowing this mess to be shown on television and heard on the radio. Your anger is misplaced. Blacks don’t own Viacom or any major network. In capitalistic America, it all comes down to the dollar and the fact is that White children loooovvvee rap music, with all the raunchiness — I mean Outkast (which 1/2 is considered raunchy) sold 10 million albums!! I am a Black female and I do not think that Imus should have been fired - he apologized - many other Whites on this blog and on a daily basis make worse comments and I have heard blacks do the same. Let’s put the blame on the people who control the medium!! The message is in the medium!!!!!!!!!

From my understanding, Don Imus also used the terms jigaboos vs the wannabees when describing the Rutgers vs Tennessee womens teams. I don’t necessarily think that he should have been fired since it was just obviously a stupid comment (his producer is another story), but in my opinion he brought it on himself. I can excuse such behavior from a young person who unfortunately grew up listening to non-positive rap lyrics, but a 60ish yr old man with many viewers/listeners should have known better. He has no one to blame but himself. Don has said a lot of controversial things over the years and I guess this was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.
The drama over this whole thing and the subsequent fingerpointing between race groups is pretty sad. It’s not even worth it.

Rumor has it CBS/MSNBC let him go because they didn’t savor the Paul Harvey demographic and figured this incident could have been used for that, didn’t help that major advertisers split the scene. I have heard Fred Imus I believe on Sirius Radio and with former CBS head Mel Karmazin there, I can see him there. Imus said something in poor taste, but 90 percent of Americans would have said the same exact thing if they saw what he saw at that game.

Single black female in total agreement with Nicole Johnson! Ditto! San Jose says that we “choose” to buy rap music or pay for cable channels that show demeaning videos…basically saying we can turn it on or off and that we don’t HAVE to listen to it. We don’t HAVE to listen to Don Imus’ radio show. Before this week, I had never even heard of him! We don’t HAVE to listen to his show…we can tune in or tune out! Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do not lead or speak for me!

I believe it was the advertisers bailing out that really led to him being fired. Actually, I first heard about Imus comments via an email and was surprised that the media hadn’t picked up on it. Sharpton and Jackson did what they do best and put the spotlight on the issue. If they hadn’t, many other people may not have heard about it due to the gatekeepers in the media.
I’m black. I wouldn’t have been offended if Imus joked that they were nappy-headed. But, the fact that he called them hos along with using another term to associate their race to that derogatory term is what I was offended by. I have nappy hair and I’m proud of it. Wouldn’t be offended if someone called me nappy-headed because I was raised to believe that nappy hair is beautiful. Imus referred to nappy hair in a negative way with a negative term ‘ho.’ That is what is offensive to me. It was an insult, not a joke. If he said nappy headed girls, he would still have a job.
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do not represent the feelings of ALL blacks. I don’t even like Sharpton’s radio show. I’m not a follower, so I choose my own issues to address, not what Sharpton or Jackson think blacks should address.
In the late 80s when rap music took a different turn, Sharpton and Jackson should have called out all of the rap artists (and pop/rock artists too, don’t forget about those rock bands!) for their use of the terms hos, b*** and the N-word in their music. It’s still being used today, why not focus on that instead of Imus. Sharpton’s double standards gave all black people a bad characterization as whiners. We are not all whiners.

I blame Rev. Jesse Jackson and Sharkton, yes sharkton for the sponsors pulling away. Rev. Sharkton, first off where did he recieve his Rev at? Second, he has made numerous racial comments, and has not been held accountable at all, nor lost his sponsors for his racial biggotry. Read Michale Savages book, and learn more about these two comical users of race. Imus made a dumb comment and got fired for it, end of story, he should have not apologized though and took it like a man, afterall he is just saying this crap now to save his job. It’s when we stop apologizing and fight back is when this will end. As soon as all the people who still want justice for slavery die off, we will all be fine.

I’m starting to feel like there is hope in this world. Shouts out to you Deborah, now if others could only be so intellectually honest and not driven by emotion. Reppin’, you are absolutely right about “Girls Gone Wild”, but I don’t recall people of the white community being outraged about this guy exploting their daughters; with all their very lewd and perverted acts. But no, these are “hot blondes” for the most part. And yes..I hear especially middle aged white men totally go into fits of heat about these girls, but that’s okay right? They’re only leering up the cracks of their @sses and doing who knows what else to these videos. They’re not calling them “nappy headed ho’s so”…
Ever listen to 790 The Zone of 680 The fan in the mornings and how those guys talk about women? Even their young impressionable female interns?? All fine though I guess, because that’s good ol boy sports right there.

The First Amendment had nothing to do with Don Imus. If you remember your political science and U.S. History the First Amendment prohibits the government from prohibiting speech and even then free speech is not absolute. The community has every right to monitor speech that it finds offensive. The advertisers and the people did just that. The free speech argument really holds no water. Are we supposed to be a society where undisciplined voices go unchecked, or is it o.k. as long as the party that’s being offended does not belong to your particular group or you don’t particularly like the group being ridiculed. We as a society should be held to a standard that will not allow the jerks to rule our airwaves and it has nothing to do with political correctness. As for rappers its is past time to address that issue. They are just as bad.

Here’s the thing about Freedom of Speech, you are free to say whatever you want, but the people who hear it are free to react as well.
I don’t think that Don Imus is a racist. I don’t think he meant any harm. I think his apology was sincere.
I have a problem with a free speech double standard (words and phrases that one race can say and others can not). I have a problem with Jackson, Sharpon, Steve Heavey, Whoppi pretending that they are saints and never have had controversy in the media.

The world is filled with double standards. The sooner you accept it, the better off you’ll be. Most double standards favor men and whites. Some favor others. It’s not fair, but neither is life.
Nothing happened to the First Ammendment. Don Imus can say what ever he wants and he did. However, the flip side to this is that his audience and boss can respond how they see fit as well! He lost his job, but he can scream about “nappy headed hoes” all over Imus Ranch!
Lastly, this is what happens to people when they get too comfortable. He thought he was being hip, trying to use “hip-hop lingo” and got caught up. I think a sincere apology and restitution would have been sufficent, but maybe if we cracked down on ALL people spewing offensive nonsense…the better off we’d be.

Reppin’ - you put it out there with Girls Gone Wild. Talk about double standards.
Incidentally, those of you who keep putting all “rap” into one catergory are showing an ignorance you might want to keep hidden. Rap/Hip-hop has its ills; nevertheless, there are many ‘clean’ subjects covered by the genre (love, friendship, partying) - just as there are with country, rock, and so on.
I attened the LL Cool J RAP concert in Centennial Park during the Final Four amidst a majority of white fans who were having a great time. Not once did LL mention hoes, drugs, b*tches, etc. Neither did/does Will Smith. There are many, many more… but I’ll leave you in your state of delusion.
Be careful not to paint an entire category of music with one broad brush, unless you’ve actually HEARD a great deal of it for yourself.

I have a daughter who attends one of this country’s top college. I graduated from the University of South Carolina. Don Imus hurt me because it was a reminder that no matter what we “African American’s” do, we’ll still be perceived in a negative light. Listen, it is not whinning- it is enlightening, awakening and changing. Imagine if EVERYDAY of your child’s life they were constantly being lumped with the meth heads or the barbie bandits, the boys who shot up the schools, went to the school with a bomb or gothic dressers, valley girl speakers, the music of Marilyn Mansion… and on and on Timothy McVey- you getr my point. The difference is. we, African American’s are accepting that they are your race’s minority and don’t judge you based on the acts or ways of a few.
Think about how you perceive black america- not as the Oprah’s, Condaleeza’s, Beyonces, Common, Nia Long…Barak’s and again on and on

Don Imus was fired because of “peer pressure” and loss of revenue due to major advertisers pulling out.
Advertisers pulled there ads because of peer pressure.
All this happened during a slow news cycle - what else is the media going to talk about. The media used Don Imus for their own agenda to create news.
I would love to see this story play out when say … Anna Nicole Smith died. Media and public consumption being what it is today - the ratings winner would be Anna Nicole and Don Imus would still have his job!

I do not agree with what Imus said, and yes, I think it is a double standard because a black man could have said this and it would not have been an issue. Everything is society is a double standard. African Americans want equality, and an end to racism-which I agree. But how can we be equal when you have the NAACP, BET network, black colleges. If white people had a “WET” network, or “NAAWP” or White History Month or all white colleges, I guarantee you it would cause an uproar.

Jay We in the white community do not refer to ourselves or our white women in a derrogatory manner, I am not a HO. You don’t hear Bon Jovi singing about white hos’, because we refuse to be called/labeled that. We have more respect for ourselves than the black community.
Girls Gone Wild are only degrading themselves, not the entire white community. You simply cannot compare the two…..stupid drunken teen aged girls do not have derrogatory songs written about them, no do they represent ME!! You certainly don’t see the white folk getting all hot and steamy because some black person called us a Cracker.
The double standard will always be around, and so will racism. Blacks want to be treated equal, but separate. If you want to be treated equal, start acting like you are equal, and quit crying racism become som white person used a “black” word.

I teach in a 65% black school. Just come by and visit a school and listen to what these kids are saying. I venture to say you would be shocked. And some of these kids are from “nice” families. Most of the black kids where I teach do listen to rap music (not just the white kids in the burbs). They wear t-shirts of some of the rappers that are highly inappropriate. They emulate the rappers by language, dress, and sometimes, deeds.
Now, saying that, I have taught in schools where the white kids are listening to Korn and some of the other very offensive bands. I once took up a CD and read the lyrics- I had to wonder where the parent was when the kid bought the CD, and if the parent even listened to or read the lyrics.
Where do kids find this music if it’s not being played over the radio?
One final thought- I don’t think Imus should have been fired. Fined and suspended - absolutely.
Okay, so one final, final thought. As a Jewish woman, I find Al Sharpton highly offensive. You can’t talk out of both sides of the mouth. He has made anti-Semetic remarks on several occasions. Why is that acceptable and what Imus did not? At least Imus publically apologized and met with the girls to offer his private apologies. Has Al Sharpton apologized to the Jewish community? Or to the Duke lacrosse players he vilified last year?

I’m still waiting for Rev. Jesse to be punished for refering to New York as “Hymietown”…oh wait, only white people get fired for racially insensitive remarks. This idea that blacks are so disadvantaged/put upon that they can’t be held to the same standards as white folks for making bigoted/racially motivated comments is itself a racist sentiment. If whitey can’t use the N-word, then blacks should get by with such slurs either.

If we are to teach our children the rights from wrongs…here is an example that is even sadder because an adult of Mr. Don Imus status who has been a public figure for years should never made such open statements that geared toward other human beings. No one should set an ugly example by making nasty statement about someone. People will no longer accept this type of action on anyone part. Now, a time to move to Rappers who make such ugly and nasty words that is publicly used during their raps features. If Mr. Imus can be found notwithstanding of his words to others…then, it must be true to enforce the same toward other who make the same mentioned to others by the use of nasty rap words. If know such action will be taken, then give Mr. Imus job back!

You can say whatever you’d like, but be prepared to face the consequences (unless you’re Al “White Interlopers” Sharpton or Jessie “Hymietown” Jackson). I may have the right to call my boss an a**hole, but he has the right to fire me for it.

Okay, let’s get a few things straight. First, rap music is not the only form of black music. Blacks created most popular music today, including rock, jazz, blues, gospel, rhythm and blues. Secondly, you’re assuming that all black people just love rap music! Wrong again! I do like old rap, but I’m 37 and don’t care to hear or see women being degraded. It’s not how rap started anyway. The WHITE companies employ these young men to do just what they’re doing and they fall for it because the money is good.
Now, as a black american, and no, I don’t need to be called African American, I don’t need representation by Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. If you actually bothered to talk to blacks, you will find that most of us X generationers and younger don’t relate to them. We see through their facade. Now, my parents are different, but they’re baby boomers that grew up with black leaders and had to deal with racism on a daily basis.
Now, as for Imus, I felt his punishment was a bit harsh, however he has to be aware of his power and responsiblity. He crossed the line. And if a black man said the same thing, I would be just as outraged. Our struggle has been so great in this country and we continue to have to defend ourselves. If you’re not a minority, you really have no clue what it’s like. Just read the posts here every day. Some many have such low views of us based on what the media portrays. As a teacher, if called one of my students a nappy headed ho, I probably would be fired too!

I think its funny. If you are black and affected by what someone says then you are a weak person. I’ve done comedy in front of majority black crowds and been called white boy and cracker get off the stage white boy and so forth and I think it’s funny. Racial humor is funny. Some of those girls do look like nappy headed hos. sharpton called jewish people diamond merchants. Guess what jewish people control most of the diamond business. Most jews love money who cares. I think Easy E, 2 Short, and Ludacris are hilarious. Most white people don’t speak like Martin Lawrence and richard Pryor imitate them but they are still funny imitations. Making fun of meth head rednecks is also funny. Lighten up you bunch of pussies. Imus sucks anyways and should have been gone long ago. Black people who wear light blue sweat pant suits that look like something my 85 year old grandma would wear is funny.

So, let me understrand this. CBS’s lead anchorman, Dan Rather, “reports” on falsified documents slandering the President of the United States. He keeps his job and is allowed to exit gracefully.

First of all Melissa- enlightenment here, so hold on. BET and such are necessary because of the UNDERrepresentation of minorities on TV. That being said- you do have all white network they are called CMT, FOXNEWS, NBC and CBS where minorities are absent or few. Actually the list are longer. HBCUs- HISTORICALLY black colleges…take note to the word HISTORICAL- which speaks for itself. Again there are many, many whites only schools- they just call themselves PRIVATE. Whitey, that is my point exact… YOU DON’T think Girls Gone Wild reflect all young white females or that the makers of that video is speaking of your race as a whole. So why do you THINK rap videos reflect my race or that rappers are talking abour black women…they’re not. Actually if you about it ICE TEA is exploting the hell out that white girl. And don’t forget white girls stand in the froupie line and video vixen line too

Don’t give any credit whatsoever to the two pimps Sharpton and Jackson, they deserve no credit whatsoever in this issue. They do not yield that much power outside of the ghetto. Can you imagine Dr. Condelezza Rice going to either of these two for advice? In reality most white people snicker and sneer at any and all issues attached to Sharpton and Jackson, we roll our syes and ask what is it this time. Jesse must need a child support check to pay off an unwed kid he fathered. They are vultures who feed off the the pooerest and the most ignorant of their community. This is how they make a living. Imus being fired was all predicated on money and advertizing. Sharpton doesn’t have the class to apologize for the Duke mess he helped create and how he wanted to ruin the lives of innocent young men. The DA there will face his due justice soon; he’ll be fired and sued soon, mark my words. The parents of these young men should sue Sharpton. There is a double standard in what whites and non whites can and cannot get by with saying, its just a fact of life. For the most part we do a good job of dealing with this double standard. Much of this is due to perception. The perception by some blacks is that whites still lord over them and control everything and use get whitey as an excuse, its worked for decades, why not use it. It’s an excuse for the many of the ills and spoils of their commnity, its simply called not being held accountable for your own actions and deeds. Quite basic actually. Whites do not feel we allow that same power to control us. What would we boycott? Would we boycott BET televison? Products marketed towards blacks? We just don’t feel we allow people to have that kind of power over us, we have grown past all this. Blacks should start thinking for themselves and not allow Jackson and Sharpton represent you. If all of Amercia heard some of the things that came from the mouths of radical black leaders, we’d be surprised at what they get by with saying. I heard some elected offical from the Bronx, on a bullhorn after a shooting in NYC inciting people to take a first shot a cop. Where was the outcry? He was considered a hero by his people. So Imus is gone, he is a very wealthy man, he’ll be okay and at the end of the day some folks still have to deal with the two social scabs and pimps Al and Jesse as their spokesmen. How sad, who deserves that? Ironcially at the end of the day both Al and Jesse could learn so very much from the young women of Rutgers they claim to represent who have had to deal with this, so very much.

One thing I have found is that white people can’t hold a debate. No matter what is said, you are not going to understand 1. Imus remark was personal. 2. Rap music, like movies and such, depict sex and violence but still Arnold S is gov of Cali. 3. Jesse and Al don’t speak for all. But they do have the ability to get an issue addressed and for that alone “Im tahnkful”. 4. Whitey,
If more people such as yourself would stop lumping all black people in with each other and judge the ‘individual’, then a lot of the problems with race relations could possibly improve.
There are plenty of black women and men with a high sense of self-respect and are doing well for themselves. But unfortunately, you see the ones who embarrass themselves in public and all you see is COLOR and base it as the behavior and attitude of all in that racial group. But on the flip side…you get angry if a black person accuses all whites of being racists, etc.
Noone can have it both ways.

I think the blow up in the media brought on by Sharpton and Jackson caused a domino affect. I don’t think this will change things to much as far as rap music is concerned or comedy or the like of respect blacks have for each others. You know, It amazes me that people knee jerk and start screaming “free speach, free speach!” when any group of people can’t get everyone to agree with them. But someone like Imus makes an insensative ignorant comment we conveniently forget about free speach and the 1st ammendment. The 1st ammendment wasn’t established to protect popular speach it was created to protect indivicuals from unpopular speach and from prosecution by the government for such speach. Don Imus didn’t get fired because of his comment, he was fired because the station and network he was employed by began loosing money. I’ve worked in radio before and I’ve seen people get let go before and it’s almost always because lack of advertising.

Serafino, we ought to be thankful for Foxnews for broadcasting the truth and the way it really is. Double standards have no place in today’s society and Blacks should take responsibility for their actions. Only then will they be able to make right from what the majority of the peoples view towards Blacks. The numbers don’t lie so just look at what the current rate for incarceration, fatherless-child rate, illiteracy rate and murder rate?
Try changing from within the Black community first!

I agree with Joe Lee, Erik, JJ, Dunwoody Mike, Gal From The South, Whitey, Tigger, Ellis, KP & Artie. That being said, I’m a nappy-headed WHITE woman who glories in her unique look. No, Imus should NEVER have been fired & he has nothing to apologize about. Did he harm anyone? Commit murder? Rape? Arson? NOOOOOO!!! I HATE this P.C. garbage. Everyone is SO sensitive. The black community uses Sharpton & Jackson as role models because these 2 buffoons advocate living like lazy thugs & it’s SO much easier to pop a dozen illegitimate brats by as many different “baby daddies”, committ crimes, take drugs, & drink booze, than actually get a job & be a responsible member of society. Why not adopt the wonderful Bill Cosby, a man I deeply admire & respect, as a viable role model? The Imus fiasco is simply an excuse to deprive us of even more of our freedoms. While I consider rap to be garbage, it, heavy metal, “Girls Gone Wild” & music videos do NOT degrade women. The type of women in these videos & that the rappers rap about degrade themselves & deserve to be treated like the trash they are.

Talk to the Governor of NJ who is in critical condition on his way to attend the meeting between Imus and Rutgers.
Talk to the Rutger team that has gotten hate mail from bigots, many probably on this blog. They are the victims here.

Imagine Miss White America? Imagine it? I don’t have to. America had it for decades when African American women were not allowed to compete in the contest. It was Miss White America.
White Entertainment TV? Already had it, for decades. Name for me all the African American TV stars of the 40’s and 50’s? Name for me all the old time African American movie stars?
White History Month? Had it! The contributions of African Americans were stricken for the history books for a long time. It was all about white people for decades. We have Black History Month as a method to change that, to correct the incorrect history that was taught for so long.
I suggest you sit down and watch a few episodes of “Eye on the Prize,” the recently re-released documentary on the civil rights battle. See how the poor white people were so discriminated against back then. Of, the poor white people. I see why you whine and cry so much.
Sharpton and Jackson have been struggling for a reason for decades. They helped the black community achieve some semblance of equality, although there is much further to go. Others did as well, but Medgar Evers, Martin Luther King and many others who struggled where killed for their efforts.
I am a white male, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for white people because they don’t have special days, contests or months. That argument just shows ignorance.

The Rutgers women’s basketball team are not public figures. And their hair and sexuality are not fair game for public dissection. I suppose today now that Imus has been fired you don’t face the fact that72% of black babies born in 2006 in America were born to an unwed mother. AIDS in the black community, its gone…right? If you can read, then check out the Apocalypse of Adam to understand the civil war between “Hypocryte”. J Smith Actually, no one has called me out of my name- won’t have it. When rappers, actors and even authors tell a story… it is NOT about me. I don’t take a dam thing a rapper says personal anymore than I take most movies or books I read as gospel. Just as the free market took care of Imus, the market will take care of rap. If you stop your friends and neighbors from buying it, that’ll be a start. Trust me J Smith…you are not ready or capable of an one on one with me.

Let me sum this up real quick for all of who dumb people:
Every white person who has something negative to say about our beautiful black race is just mad that two POWERFUL BLACK FIGURES IN AMERICA, Whether you believe their beliefs or not, agree or disagree that they HELP remove a BIGOT from the RADIO and TV television. Let’s not forget, you helped Janet get booted off of MTV.
We can go around and around on this..The bottom line…………
White people want to be like us, and what you ALL NEED TO BE SAYING IS THANK YOU AFRICIAN AMERICANS FOR giving us our freedom for all these years. Please go back and history and see who invented just about everything in this country that you use in everyday life. Instead of talking s** like you all do. Just say thank you. So to put you on the right path, please go to blackinventors.com. WE are the reason why you have cars, WE are the reason why your mother and fathers can have heart surgery, WE are the reason your people can receive blood-WE started the blood banks. DO your history and THANK US! Don’t HATE! Educate yourselves. If you don’t learn one thing by this…NO THIS… Blacker the berry, sweeter the juice.

Once again go to your job today and call someone a “nappy headed ho” and see how fast you will be fired! you guys love to talk about blacks and rap music and the disrespect of women, but why don’t you talk about artist like kirk franklin, mary mary, yolanda adams, india irie etc who make positive uplifting records and sell just as many records as rappers do. But guess what? white people never heard of them because it is not talked about in the media they would rather focus on negative rappers because they are the ones who buys those records. Speaking of disrespecting of women,do you remember the hair bands of the 80’s? groups like motley crue, poison, warrent, whitesnake? all of their videos had half-naked women in them. And most of the black rap videos have white women,mixed-race women& latino women in their videos dancing half naked anyway,so they are disrespecting yall women!

If Imus would have, under his own power, played the Dave Chapelle skit on the radio where the white family’s last name is the n-word, I don’t believe it would be this much of an uproar. Okay its now time to start removing other sick. gross, dispicable shock jocks from the radio. Such as Howard Stern, damn he needed to be booted off radio a century ago!! Lets get rid of the fat cigar smoking Rush Limba, the arrogant marine corp want a be the Kimer, lets get rid of all the radio personalities because now I am crying because they ALL say offensive stuff about something.. THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR PEOPLE…
Snoop Dog really showed his class with that interview he did with MTV.. If I was black, black idiots like snoop dog I would be sickened by and if I caught my kids as a strong proud black father listening to his music I would put a size 10 boot up their little tails.. Snoop Dog is just like Jeese Jackson and Al Sharpton, a huge disgrace to the black community.
I guess I need to face it, WE will always have prejudice and racism in the good old USA. Blacks are just as racist and predjudice as white people, sorry to say but probely more than whites are.. WHY? because they will not get rid of the hate and grudges of the slavery days.. They wont pray for God to break the stronghold and bondage in their lifes to get over something that happened even way before they were born… It is soooooo sad that we as a world, as a nation, cannot get along and stop the stupidity of racism and hate… But unfortunatly it will NEVER stop….

I don’t remember this country ever being assaulted on a regular basis with hate, racism and overall divisivness as it is now. I blame a large part of that on the radio jockeys and TV commentators who spew this day after day. There should be a moratorium on this. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and any others, should stop attacking people. It is possible to have sensible discussions without all the venom. I’m white and I was offended and embarassed by what Imus said. I avoid listening to the others that talk like this, but when I have heard bits from their shows, I have been appalled. As Americans, we should all work together to make our country a better place and demand an end to “hate speech”.

All this segragation talk is why society as a whole is not advancing the way it should. The problems in the black community affect EVERY American. If they didn’t, the white people in this blog wouldn’t complain about so much. Just as the bad seeds in white America bring us down.
Maybe if we all focused on fixing problems in AMERICA regardless of race, we could all move forward. When the quality of life improves for the lowest common denominator in our society (which includes ALL races) we ALL benefit.

Blacks should just accept that much of White America is so blinded by their own ignorance and hatred; that they view Blacks through glasses that are severely stained. This is why they obssess over Jesse and Al, present arguments about “White Entertainment TV” and ” Miss White America” and other silly little arguments.
You see, they are and will always be in denial about their shortcomings because they truly believe they are superior. They will go deaf when you hammer them over the heads with the fact that historically Blacks had always been shut out of colleges and universities, Media, pageants, etc. Which is why these “Black” entities were established. If they had it their way, you’d still be shut out. And this is what’s at the center of their anger. The fact that you have overcome and continue to make strides in spite of all that they do to try to hinder you. It p** them off quite frankly.
You might as well be talking to a brick wall when you talk to a racist.

Dunwoody Mike is saying exactly what the majority of Atlanta is saying theses days. Mrs Writer you need to go back to wherever you came from. The reverse racism in this city is at its all time high. Blacks are totally at fault for getting Imus fired because of his non-racist remark. I just saw a nappy headed ho and she was latino. Since when is nappy head ho a race. Where do nappy head hos come from? MLK is flippin’ in his grave, due to all current black “leaders” of today messing up everything he accomplished. The black community needs to move on from all the slavery talk because you were not a slave or was your parents or their parents or their parents before them, so you’re not entitled to a apology or should you ever ever get one. You’re not owed anything other than what you earn today. I’m not expecting an apology from the British for what they did to the Scottish people (see Braveheart as an example) and the British still rule today. I’m not asking for an apology because I didn’t suffer and they did much worse things then call someone a nappy hoe. Rap music is just plain aweful and it should be wiped from the earth. Any nappy head ho can sing that cra*. The next war won’t be in Iran or N. Korea it will be a race war inside the USA. The black community you are NOT owed anything and you will never get a apology for slavery…EVER! So get off your break, and find some use for your existance on this planet and stop blaming the white people for all your mistakes. Cynthia McKinney, Sharpin and Jackson truely demonstrate the mind set of the black community. Hate all white people and blame them for things current and in the past. Bill Cosby is correct!

Imus (Frankenstein) should have been fired. He’s a jerk. Hideous at that. And it was truly not his first offense.
Now as a black woman, I really don’t think that the Rutgers team was as offended as Al and Jessie are making it out to be.
To be honest, some of them does have nappy hair, most of them like men even. But calling them a garden tool was kind of out there.
But…… defending those gangsta rappers (I don’t like rap music), we can choose whether to buy their music or not. Imus is on a “respectable” TV network. Big difference.

All about freedon, J Smith and any other- I know you would like to believe in your theory that all black people are stupid, locked up, on welfare or taking care of many illegitimate kids.
But unfortunately for YOU- that is not the case. Like myself many of us have advance degrees, six figure positions in corporate America, never been arrested and a husband with 2.5 children. You wish that stereotype would hurt but it doesn’t. But I will let you tell me how it feels…because times have changed- it’s now me and my spouse with degrees and corporate positions. It is my daughter attending a major university- I own the house, the cars and the power.
Now it is your children having babies out of wedlock, strung out on meth, committing crimes and unemployed. So it is time that you will see that certain behavior has nothing to do with race or class. Its oppression, disenfranchised and lack of opportunity that fill jail cells, rehabs and welfare offices. But most of you already know that- with your meth head sons, your “Girls that have Gone Wild” and Jerry Springer canidates. I have a meeting to attend but give it your best shot. I’ll be back!!!

Why is it racism when a white person says something and when Wanda Smith mocks Latinos, its not? Against my better judgement I turned on V-103 this morning just to see what ignorant comentary they were making and I ws not disappointed. Wanda made an offensive refernce to her almost thinking about getting involved with a Mexican as if that were beneath her and then implied she ended up working with one anyway(Frank Ski). Of course he wasn’t even intellegent enough to school her about the fact that people are people no matter what creed or color. She of course then proceeded to make the obligatory stereotypical remarks about Mexicans and then she laughed. what is wrong with being a hard working people? what is wrong with people involved with a Latino? why can she insult another race and not Don Imus? this is not her first time doig so. she continually mocks a lanugauge she can’t even begins to comprehend and sets a bad example for the listening audience. she can say and do what she wants but that is not racism? she needs to be fored for being ignorant and for spreading that close minded way of thinking. i stopped listening to V-103 because of her and so have many others that I know and before people start shooting off their mouths, no I am not Mexican. I was born and raised here and yes I am a proud Latina

To BY THE MAN: You are exactly what I am talking about. A black man who is racist and hates white people. A black man that thinks the white man has oppressed him all of his life.
By the way hotshot, the last time I looked Miss USA and Miss America both had black women to win the beauty contest in the last 5 years. Come correct or dont c* at all…
You are the exact example of a black person who cannot get over the slavery days that happened before you were even a thought in your fathers little head…
The day the black community and race can get over the past, stop hating, stop thinking that someone wants to hold you back and oppress you, stop crying everytime you get a chance, stop pulling out the race card. The black race is its ONLY enemy. Hell how do you know that its not the mexican race that wants to over throw the black race? How do you know its not the mexicans that want to oppress the black man? lol…lol….lol…
Sorry but I think their are MORE black people that are racist and have hate in their hearts than white people….

This blog would not be here if Snoop Dogg or some other HIGH Profile black person had called them NAPPY HEADED HO’s..
It’s ok to be said WITHIN the black community to degrade each other, but when someone outside the BLACK race says it, it’s wrong.
Blacks are holding blacks back!! But, you blame everyone else, instead of taking responsibility for YOURSELF to make YOURSELF a better person!!!
Blame the white man all you want, but it’s you who is keeping you down.
Every single person in this country has the same opportunity to make something of themselves. Every single one of us was born into a world that offers ANYTHING you want, but you have to work for it. Laying around collecting welfare isn’t an offer to make yourself better.
Then you go and cry because someone made a racial slur. Maybe if you got up off your lazy government assisted butts and actually DID Something about it, this racism would go away. but it is so much easier to blame someone else for your problems.

People need to read the cases where the US Supremed Court has ruled on the First Ammendment and understand that there is the word written in the constitution regarding free speech, and then there is the broader interpretations of that law that has been made, and that makes up CASE LAW. A persons right to free speech can be violated by anyone, any entity…not just government bodies. And that same right can be violated when they speak on ANY topic…not just the government.

Perception is a reality and the current perception is that black people are lazy and waiting for handouts. They want everything for nothing. Unfortunately, this isn’t true for all blacks but like I said Perception is Reality!
Imus will lock up a sweet Satellite Radio deal soon enough and pull in his tens if not hundreds of thousand of listeners and enjoy not being censored.
I really do believe Jackson and Sharpton should be removed because they do nothing but make a mockery out of what they are trying to represent.

Jackson smeared these kids in the media and practically ruined there lives just because the so called “victim” was black. If she was white, would he have cared? For those of you “like blacks even less now”, I’d like to see you leave the safety of the space behind your computer screen and say that to a black person.
Stop being silly and even more racist that Al or Jesse. Blacks didn’t do anything to you and just like Imus had the freedom of speech to say what he said, people had the freedom to protest. Sonya, Rusty has more brains in his little finger than you do in your 300-lb (from sitting around on your welfare-mooching tail) body & concerning me, you couldn’t be more off-base. I can guess what your problem is. Jealousy. You are probably so ugly that your dozen baby-daddies had to put a bag over your head before doing the act.

“First of all Melissa- enlightenment here, so hold on. BET and such are necessary because of the UNDERrepresentation of minorities on TV.”
Uh… before making claims like that in the future, you need to check the facts. African-Americans constitute less than 18% of the population and have a greater representation than that in TV, movies, or music. Check your facts before making unsupported claims.

The fact is is that the media exploits the assumed weakness in every culture. Many of the comments regarding Blacks on this blog reflect nothing of my military family (grandfather, father, cousins) who served this country evidently for people who still hate them. The people that you describe are not the people that I laugh and cry with, my family and friends, hardworking and intelligent people, entrepreneurs who are doing well in life. It’s sad that we are so divided because we are all inherently the same. Do I think that Britney Spears represents the average White woman? Do I think that all of the stereotypes that the media pushes in our faces are true? No, to do so would be ignorant and immature of me. Let another 9/11 happen and we will be on here singing kum baya. That’s why terrorists are targeting this country…we are divided…we are falling.

For all of you complaining about CBS firing Don Imus, it was a market decision. His advertisers like P&G, General Motors, and others were dropping him. And when you do not pull in the advertisers, then your show is not profitable and therefore, you have to go.

Sonya. My name is Junebug Smith. How’s that. That still don’t solve the promblems and the double standard in the black community. Sharpton and Jackson have a poor track record. Their focus should not always be on blaming the white man, but also blaming the black man. They’re too into fame and money at the black community expense.

First of all, evidently you don’t read well or can’t decipher language. If you scroll up a bit you will see that I don’t consider Sharpton or Jackson as my leader, God is…Not Georgie Bush or any other man on this planet. I know that Black people need to improve and I can admit that, but you say it with this bravado that makes an assumption that Whites are perfect. It is that suprememist attitude that we are talking about.

To BY THE MAN: Nothing hurt me.. I guess what I said to you did hurt you though.. I bet you are one of these black men that wear your pants down to your thighs, have your hate turned to the side, disrespect women, does drugs and idolizes snoop dog..
Find a good pentecostol church that is intergrated and go to it, maybe then one day you will stop being full of hate and racist. I dont care what race you are or what skin color you are NO ONE holds you back, oppresses you or causes you to fail.. A person/individual is responsible for their own lives, how they act, how they conduct themselves in society, how successful they are, how much of a loser they are….ect..ect… You as a individual decides your destiny….
I am still convienced that their are more blacks who are predjudice and racist than their are whites… It’s wrong and its sad….
Imus should have been fired but should so all and everyone in radio, tv, news channels, newspapers, actress, actors, singers, rappers, anyone famous, politicians, THAT SAY OR DOING ANYTHING THAT IS INAPPROPRIATE, WRONG, DISTASTEFUL, RACIST, HURTS SOMEONES FEELINGS, OR RUDE…….. NO MORE DOUBLE STANDARDS, EVERYONE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND PAY THE PRICE….
Hell lets just be a communist country.. Is this really the land of the red, white and blue? NOPE….. Why? because we as Americans cannot get along and stop hate and racism.. Why? because we are to much a Jerry Springer society, who cannot forgive and forget….
Who can we hold responsible for killing Christ on the cross? Who’s ancesters is responsible for that? Please tell me………………….

JJ, the system has made it so easy for certain ethnic groups to get govt. assistance that they, naturally, have no motivation to work & actually become productive.
Actually, you better check that. There are more whites on welfare than African-Americans. There are more whites than any other ethnic group. Hispanics account for less than half the number of white recipients. You are repeating a myth.

Thank you James & Ms Writer.
I too am a former Gulf War vet, as well as several others in my family (some with purple hearts) who fought for some of the hateful people in this country. No one in my family or group of friends are junkies…illiterate..imprisoned..unemployed, lazy bums living off welfare and popping out babies. I get so tired of defending myself to the ignorant that sometimes it’s not even worth it. So if it makes some of you to feel better putting down people you don’t know….go ahead. As someone who grew up in the NYC area, Imus has been slime for a long time. He has made nasty comments about most every race and religion, and denigrates women all the time.
Imus was also known for toning down his act when politicians were on, but heading right back to the gutter when they left.
No surprise here, this was a long time coming. The only surprise is at the hypocrisy of his management as tehy act surprised by his conduct.

I read some of the comments that alot of people are saying, all I can say is that Imus should have been fired. I’m a black man, and I’m tired of white people with the same old sotry about hip hop artsist, black teen pregnancy, etc. Look at here, Imus said some racially and sexist comments to a group of black women that did not deserve that type of comment. I, as a black man, even know that you don’t call a black woman by anything like that(those are fighting words to a woman). Face it, gone are the days where black people are going to let anyone disrespect us, we are a proad peole with a rch history, whom have been throuh so much in the past 400 yrs. We will not stand by and let anyone disrespect us , and that’s that. All of you who don’t like it can go to hell on that one. If msnbc and cbs didn’t fire Imus, then it would have given anyone the liscence to utter those words. Hey, if you don’t like hip hop artist, and are worried about the type of poisonous music that is being pumped into the community(Both black and white), then take a stand and stop buying that garbage!

African Americans should be embarrassed by the firing of Don Imus. They definitely went too far; yes an affront to free speech. Why is it that we are so broken when we hear the words n**** and that’s some nappy headed hos there, I’m going to tell you that? It’s obvious. The truth hurts and we don’t want any part of reality.
In the dark, away from the public eye, you should see how the 99% of African Americans who work for Europeans behave in the work place. As a matter of fact, I called some fellow employees together and told them if I caught any of them kissing these white folks butt again, they would be kissing mine as long as they worked here. Several said, “We’re just friendly like that.” As a consequence, Europeans have made being friendly like that as the standard for African American employment. We should be ashamed of ourselves.
Don Imus; “That’s some nappy headed hos there, I’m going to tell you that.” African Americans have voluntarily prostituted themselves before God and man. There is a spiritual and physical penalty to be paid for that decision. Have you ever taken a good look at African Americans lately? Our appearance, safety, and health is worst than when we were in slavery. The gleam in the eyes is completely out, male and female; from the so-called greatest to the so-called least. We are dying and being imprisoned at an unprecedented level. Our health is in crisis.
I think it’s unfair to fire Don Imus. It is hypocritical! He is doing what’s being done all over America; especially in the work place. It’s just that African Americans don’t want it exposed.
Solution: African Americans should build businesses and institutions capable of meeting the needs of the African American masses. This would give us power as a people; black power. It’s not a sin for black people to have power. It’s an imperative. We would then face less humiliation from other groups and would have the confidence, clearness of mind, to behave as men and women before God and man when insulted by others.

First of all , to address “atl Music”, let me tell you this here. We (black people” help to build this country that all of us call “america”. We have made significant contributions to this nation, Invented many things, etc etc. I’m an “american” of african desent. I was born and raised here, not in africa, so get it straight! Also , to my brother and sisters(and even white people), if you want to know what is being done about the “ills” of the black community, then I suggest that you listen to Tavis Smiley’s “state of black union 2007” that was shown on c-span. I just watched it with my family, and it was very informative. Tavis had some very prominent people of the black community on there , talking about the issues that face the black community, and how we can change/solve them. The show was in 2 parts, the 1st part was 3 hrs long, and the second part was 4hrs long. The speakers included: Julia Hare, Cathy Hughes(ceo and owner of Tvone), Dr. Cornell West, Actors Tim and Daphne Reed, etc. It was a very enlightening Conversation. I suggest that all of you watch this program. For my white conterparts, here’s the truth you guys were enslaved way before we were, that is why your ancestors left England, and came to america. So with that slave mentality, your ancestors ventured to africa, and forced my african ancestors upon nasty ships, and chained and whipped, and brought to this country , to make my ancestors the slaves that your ancestors once were. So you are not part of the “original America” either, The Indians are the original/native americans, so again, get it straight and know your history! So again , “Atl Music” know your history before you shoot off at the mouth!

Peri Is this what Dr. King died for?
Dr. King was fighting for equal rights. The man had a vision and was not afraid to get his message out. He was the ONE person who stood up and fought the fight.
Unfortunately, when Dr. King died, so did the equal rights movement, because NO ONE wanted to do what he did, and that was to stand up for what he believed!!!! Who since Dr. King has done anything like that?? Jessie and Al? I don’t think so, and they were right there with Dr. King. What have they done since? NOTHING!!!!!! Neal Boortz calles them Race Pimps for a reason.
Now the King children themselves can’t even get along. And they should be living Dr. King’s legacy.

White people have some of the same “issues” as black people, if not worse… So don’t come on this board and act as if you are “holy-er than than thou”. The question to you is this, seeing that both blacks and whites have the same types of issues, what is the solution? Should we sit here and just keep judging each other? Or should we all be a part of the solution? Just some food for thought!

* I hate racism* finally a Black man who has some sense. I have been saying these very words for years and have instilled them into my kids lifes. We are accountable for our lives. We can not move forward if we keed living in the past. The past is the past and there is NOTHING we can do to change it, but we can make choices not to repeat it. The likes of Jesse and Al are only out for their own selfish rewards and they will get theirs. They are like venomous snakes who prey on the sufferings of others and fill them with their poision. They need to apologize to the nation for being the biggest hypocrites every known to mankind. All they do is fuel hatred, and they need to be stopped. I have never agreed with anything they do. They need to go after these dead beat dads and rally to teach Black men to be MEN, they need to go to schools and churchs and in the community to push for quality education for all children. They need to help the poor and the widows, they need to do positive things that makes a diffence for good. And they both call themselves (Rev) please…….

Keith so what are you doing? Just sitting watching a show? Are you being pro-active in any way at all, or do you prefer to complain in a blog? What have YOU done to make things better?
AND I do believe African’s were enslaving African’s long before the white man came along. They were not forced on to the nasty ships, they were SOLD by their own people. I don’t believe there were a bunch of white people in AFRICA owning slaves.
As far as I know, none of my ancestors owned any of your ancestors. My people came from Holland in the 1800’s. You are not of African descent unless you actually came from Africa. And I’m not a Dutch-American, I am an AMERICAN, plain and simple. I was born here!!!!
African American was thought of because ya’ll hated being called Black. I don’t see Black, I see a person, a unique individual. But that’s how I was raised, unlike you, who was raised to hate the white man.

gttim: Better check YOUR facts:
Aid to black and Hispanic welfare recipients is greater in proportion to the size of their populations than is aid to white recipients. This can be seen by determining the average welfare expenditure per person for each ethnic group.
As a group, the 207 million white residents in the U.S. population receive $212 billion in benefits. As a group, then, they receive some $1,022 per person in welfare aid.
There are some 30 million Hispanic residents in the U.S., and Hispanics as a group receive $69 billion in welfare, or roughly $2,210 per person. As a group, the 33 million black residents in the U.S. receive $105 billion in welfare aid, or roughly $3,230 per person.

I am a white male who served this country for 7yrs in the U.S. Marine Corps. I have dated/sleep with black girls, mexican girls, german girls, dutch girls, holland girls…ect… Their is absolutly no reason to be racist or to hate because of skin color, race or nationality.
Be a man or a woman and be real.. We still in todays world as you can see from this blog that racism and hate still exsist in this world/nation. Its really sad.. I still say that because of the past and becuase of slavery, the black comunity still holds hate in their hearts for it therefore they wont let it be just that a thing of the past.. I also think their are more blacks that are racist and predjudice than whites. Learn to forgive and forget and learn to bury that curse, stronghold and bondage. When you put something in the past, you dont look back and you dont re-live….
Lets hold everyone accountable for their actions and words, no matter the skin color or nationality. Lets fire anyone from any job that says anything inappropriate, wrong, offensive, racist ect.. Oh Crap… that would cause the unemployment and welfare rate to skyrocket.. oh no that caused a recession… oh man how can I feed my family….
I can guarantee this, no I know this to be a fact.. The military does not have this much racism and hate like the civilian world.. Why? Because your a family, a black man, white man, mexican man, mixed man, chinese man might save your life in combat, how could you possibly hate or be racist toward someone that covers your ass, saves your life and truly loves you like a blood brother.
Maybe we should make it mandatory for all Americans to do 2yrs in the military upon graduation… yea lets do that.. maybe people will change the way they think……

The level of utter ignorance displayed by the higher than mighty causasians on the blog is appaling, though not surprising. Case in point, Stone Mtn., was nice, now…HORRIBLE, just like Clayton County; the less white the area, the more crime, just a fact. I” take my white whine anyday over your black crime. Oh man river………….

In heaven there are going Asians, Whites, Blacks, Jewish, Catholic etc. I guess I will see you there JJ. Have a great day!

Nice Guy, thanks again for the link. Michelle nailed it and the Blacks are frustrated because the truth is staring them in the face yet they want to blame whitey.
This will never change until the Black Community is willing to deal with their own kind first. They can belly ache and whine all they want but the Truth lies within.

Whites complain and play the blame game also. How many times whites complain and blame blacks, mexicans, and women because of afirmative action that they could not get a job.now whites are blaming Sharpton & Jackson for Imus getting fired when it was his fault.whites are blameing blacks for the false rape charges at Duke, but if those white boys didn’t hire a stripper none of this would have happended they should have been studying instead of wasteing their parents money buying beer, meth and strippers! How many black men went to jail because a white woman said they raped or robbed her, only to find out she was lying.Remember Susan Smith? Remember Jennifer Wilbanks who said she was kidnapped by a Mexican man?

Sorry but it is the black community, not all of them but alot of them that whines and cries.. Oh I hate white people, oh the white man has oppressed us, thats why we are living in poverty. The hurricane in new orleans was because of the white man. Everyone and all nationalities owes the black race something because before we were born, way back in the past the black race was used for slavery. The president hates black people… Once again no one, no race, no nationality is at fault for where you are in life. You are responsible for your future, present adn destiny.. Your decisions and actions place you where you are..
Until the black race quits being racist, having hate in their hearts, put the past behind them, use their abilities to get somewhere in life then we as a nation, as americans will NEVER have a black president ro minority president. Stop playing the blame game….
When we get cut, we ALL bleed the same color. Let me ask the proud black man something, if I saw a man ( it doesnt matter what color) beating and raping your wife or daughter and I as a white man saw it happening would you want me to stop it? Would you want me to save them? If I did would you still not trust the white man, have racism in your heart, still think defferent of me because of my race and skin color? Still have negative feelings of the white person because of slavery? OR would you love me, thank me, embrace me?
My sister really makes me mad.. She always blames my parents for some of her failures and some of her thought patterns and for some things that she did in her past.. WHAT??? It’s not my parents fault.. I have to jump her butt all the time when she says that. Thats just pure ignorance when she says that… man it makes me soooo mad.
Every race and nationality could change alot about their ways, their attitudes, the way they act, talk, dress, ect… But the only way to do that is one individual at a time.. We need to learn to accept every race and nationalities differences, embrace them, accept them and live with them. We need to become a true melting pot and love thy neighbor..
Would you stay with a spouse that always got on your butt.. Look at your negative habits instead of positive ones, didnt accept you for the way you are? no way.. you would be running to the lawyers office to get a divorce.. Therefore if we as a society dont stop this stupidity of hate and racism then we will never move forward with success…………….

If you wanna see just how much racist Whites complain, just read this d@mn blog!. They complain about everything, then accuse people of “blaming” or “hating” whitey for exposing THEIR hypocrisy. So sad.
This is hilarious!!! Just know racist whites (and I will emphasize racist, because I have no problem with genuinely decent, Caucasian people), but you racist ones please know that I as a well accomplished contributing Black member to society have no respect for you whatsoever.

The thing is, the media and the general population tries to understand what led Susan Smith, Jennifer Wilbanks, the Barbie Bandits, etc., astray. We have to do root-cause analyses when they commit crimes.
Did you see the article in the AJC giving the backstory on the lives of the Barbie Bandits? No backstory on the fellas who were involved, their upbringing, and what might have led THEM astray - but we HAD to know how the white girls got on the wrong path.
It’s so obvious it’s funny.

Nice Guy and Gal from the South,
I got one question for you. How is it that black people make up ONLY 12% of the TOTAL Population of the Country, but however those records are in the billbord top 5? If you EINSTEINS do the simple math, then you would find out that we do not have the population numbers that would make those record top of the chart. ANOTHER segment of the population had to be listening to that stuff to make them on top of the chart. Probably your sons or daughters.
As for the music getting cleaned up, it starts with the record label. And do you know who owns about 99% of the labels out their, old white men! So it is really you that is putting this stuff out there. These old executives are paying this artists to perform this stuff.
I’ll tell you what, If you really feel as strongly as you do about this music, then I challenge you to take a look at your stock portfolio (if you have one) and check to see if you have a record label stock. If you do, do your research on that company. If that company supports these vulgar rappers, then dump that stock. That is the first step you can do to cut this crap out. Otherwise, stop whinning.

Hey Ed, or should I say Archie Bunker…
I live in a majority black neighborhood that is clean and quiet with nobody hanging out on the corners. And believe it or not there a lot of other similar neighborhoods everywhere. My white neighbors don’t seem to have a problem being there at all. Maybe if you chose to venture out and talk to your ethnic neighbors (instead of hiding & talking about people you don’t know) you’ll find that they are good people who just want good environment to raise their families.
But then again, I’m not sure if I would want my kid interacting with the children of bigots. There’s no telling what stereotypes & intolerance you teach your kids at home.
That’s why the cycle continues.

Hey james,
Funny, but you sound just like Bill O’Reilly. Sure, white kids are buying the music and white guys are producing it. But you missed the point. The artists are black, and Sharpton and Jackson are ignoring them. Why? Because they’re black. The white kids buying the rap music aren’t being harmed. They’re middle class white kids with stable living environments for the most part. The poor black kids are the ones being hurt, especially when they have irresponsible parents. Remove the gangsta rap, and crime and pregnancy in the black community decreases dramatically, and education improves. Those factors in the white community wouldn’t even budge. Get it now?

I agree with you, and people should start to go after the artist as well, BUT, my point is that the record execs and the shareholders are ENABLERS. They enable these people to put this filth out. We will attack this issue on all sides from the Top at the record company to the rapper that puts this filth out. I personally do feel that if you are going after Imus for this, then you have to go after the record companies as well, or you will look like a hypocrite. The record labels should have been dealt with a long time ago.

Imus is a jerk and has been for a long time. The last time I listened to him I shut him off. When he started he started years ago he was off beat and very funny. I used to enjoy him when I lived in NYC yrs ago. But for two Anti-Semetic racists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to go after him with such ferocity , let them both purify their own hearts first. Remember “Hymietown” and Sharptons remarks. I didn’t.

james, we’re in agreement. You should follow O’Reilly on this issue, if you don’t alreay. He says what you say exactly. Problem is that white people can’t really criticize rap music, or even the enablers. If we’re do, we’re labeled racist by everyone from the kid on the street to Snoop Dogg to 50 Cent to any black DJ. Blacks need to solve this problem, and fast. And at the moment, since Bill Cosby has been ignored, Jackson and Sharpton are the only ones who can do it.

Try changing from within the Black community first!*
Based on the numbers and the numbers don’t lie according to you Gal of the South, Whites outnumber Blacks in this country thus meaning Whites outnumber Blacks in every category you mentioned. But none of this has anything to do with the topic of this blog. It is sad when people speak with emotion and not reason. Imus violated not only FCC regulations but the policies concerning proper workplace conduct. I can not go on my job and call a fellow employee any deragotory name and not expect HR action. Just because you are allowed to do things a certain way for a long time does not make it right. I empathize with Don Imus but he will land on his feet sooner than we think. He is a hot comodity for sattelite radio as well cable television. So this is career boost for him . I am so saddened by the cowards on this board who come in and spew their racial hatred about a issue that is not racial at all. Had he said Anti-semtic remarks about innocent Jewish girls, homophobic remarks about innocent homosexuals, or any other group of people if a prominent person had spoke out about it and rallied the troops behind them the results would have been the same. What is left out of this conversation is the fact that NOW(National Organization of Women) were very vocal in their displeasure with the remarks which I think made the difference with sponsors. Women are the largest consumers in this country and no one wants to lose their business. People let it go. People lose jobs whether fairly or unfairly on a daily basis. This to shall pass

Imas Was guilty of excessively poor taste and judgement (repeatedly). But in their pasts, Jackson and Sharpton have made all the same insults regarding whites or Jews. So I say a pox on them all. Let Imus wear his cowboy costume back on the ranch where it actually looks normal. And if Al Sharpton utters another anti semitic sentence, we should pounce on him too.

The most overlooked issue when talking about Imus and HIP HOP is the intent behind the message. Imus made a stupid comment about a group of people to be funny (although ignorant and hurtful and untrue) and also to an adult audience. I keep hearing Imus reaches 1.3 million listeners, which are all adults by the way, not kids. HIP HOP is produced with the intent to reach as many kids as possible, who are far more impressionable than adults. Imus’ comments were stupid, but had no intent of hurting or influencing anyone, whereas hip hop is directly aimed at children. What a sham.

And don’t tell me kids aren’t influenced by it. That is why they drive low riders, only care about their clothes and jewelry, speak a different language, wear their clothes hanging off their butts, promote violence, degrade women, don’t care of school, join gangs, sell drugs…..oh yeah, all the things hip hop promotes in their “music” and videos.

Imus have missed something. Spittin’ Jesse Jackson (spittin’, because he admitted to spitting in white people’s food when he worked in a restaurant) and Al Sharptongue have said much worse than Imus. It was a bad joke. The only reason he was fired is for what he said and that he is white.
We have become the Land of Mediocrity — where the best do not always rise to the top — where black skin grants you college admission, athletic scholarships, guaranteed job placement and verbal assault without retribution. Enjoy it while you can because we are in a global environment where survival of the fittest rules and where competing countries honor meritocracy and reward talent and hard work on merit, not skin color. Don’t be surprised when you see many more of our companies set up operations outside the U.S. or outsource overseas, partly to avoid costly HR litigation and anti-discrmination lawsuits. (Read the latest BusinessWeek edition)
Imus will be back - better than ever. Remember when Bill Maher was booted off the air? Now, he is back with a bigger and better show, Politically Incorrect on HBO. Imus just expanded his audience to many that had never heard of him before.

How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
One group cannot say that all the problems of the world is because of another group of people, because more than likely you have issues yourself, such as the Meth Epidemic, just for example. The problem is with envirouments.Art is many time a reflection of enviroument. If society would invest in east Point like they invest in Buckhead the reality would change. If they would invest in Liberty city (maimi) like they invest in Adventura (miami) or south beach the the reality would change. You look at the incredible growth that has taken place in Miami and Atlanta. Then go to the urban areas and see the oppresive envirouments people live in. the fact is racism and past remnises of slavery is responsible for this generation and will be reponsible for many more to come unless the economics of theses envirouments change.

Jay, You have no clue. If the people of East Point did not rob and shoot all the time, people or businesses (not society) would invest in those areas b/c it is in Atlanta and would be a great investment, if it was not crime infested. How about the people of East Point invest in their own neighborhoods by cleaning them up and maybe some businesses and people would invest. You cannot possibly be that dumb, even if you tried.
