6/26: Kimmel finally coming to WSB-TV

jimmyh%20kimmel.jpg

After four long years, WSB-TV has finally relented and will air the late-night “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show. We’ll be able to see him for the first time late Tuesday night July 10 (or technically early Wednesday morning July 11 at 12:05 a.m.). Atlanta has been the largest market that doesn’t air Kimmel.

Up to this point, WSB-TV management has said it makes more money airing repeats of “Entertainment Tonight” and the 11 p.m. news at 12:05 a.m. But when the new station manager Bill Hoffman took over last year, he told the AJC he was open to the idea of bringing in Kimmel. So it just became a question of when.

Kimmel’s star has been rising. Though he usually lags behind Jay Leno/Conan O’Brien and David Letterman/Craig Ferguson, his ratings have been trending upwards and have been strong among younger male viewers. ABC clearly supports him. The network gave him prime airtime doing a facetious weekly bit teaching dancing on its popular primetime show “Dancing With the Stars.” It also gave him a primetime special last season and he will be hosting a summer reality show called “Set for Life” July 20. And he’ll be hosting the ESPY Awards on sister station ESPN.

I’m scheduled to talk to Kimmel on Monday July 2. Email me at rho@ajc.com if you have any questions you’d like me to ask him.

It was the same thing with Cox when we lived in Orlando, no Kimmel, instead they ran the same evening syndicated garbage.

When I was living in Statesboro going to Georgia Southern, we had it down there, but that was over 3 years ago. I still didnt watch it. Would much rather watch Conan. Its kind of the crass humor from the Man Show. The show is okay, but the sophomoric humor can wear thin.

If you can believe it, it’s actually been four and a half years. Kimmel’s show debuted after the 2003 Super Bowl.

So what are we losing? The extra edition of the news or nightline….

Good for Cox. Now if WSB could broadcast something other than recycled news dreck during the AM weekend hours. I have already seen the rehashed news stories of the previous week and turn to elsewhere for current news.

Finally I’ll get to watch someone who is funny late at night. Thank God that old Fart that didn’t want to show Jimmy Kimmel is gone.

Anything to avoid putting Monica Kauffman’s face on TV for one more second. Plus Jimmy Kimmel is funny. Maybe if he wore one of Monica’s wigs during his show maybe the “Atlanta people” will watch it. thanks WSB-TV

Not that I’ll watch the show religiously, but I’m glad to be able to see a show that is now often referenced on other shows in popular culture. It was frustrating to see a news story, or to see some clip aired by Fox or CNN that referenced Kimmel, and have no idea what it was about because I didn’t have the option of watching the show.

Now about those Sunday “Blue Laws”…..

Pathetic that it takes WSB 3+ years to put something hip on local tv!

Happy about this! After seeing so many of his clips on the internet, I was wondering what the hell was wrong with WSB! It should definately be enjoyable!

This is the same station that would always interupt Whose Line is it Anyway for one of their annoying UGA or Closeup specials.

Thank God WSB is finally doing something to perk up its very boring line-up. Welcome to the 21st century.

The term “sophomoric humor” always has fascinated me. Like some people don’t like humor unless it’s so clever that no one else gets it except them. Funny is funny, no matter what form it’s in. And Jimmy Kimmel is funny. What late night talk show would you classify as not having “sophomoric humor”? Nightline? Please. Some people always have to have something to complain about. You don’t watch Kimmel now, so don’t watch it when it begins airing. Is your life so petty that you have to take time to make a post about “who cares?” You must, if you took the time to post.

Congrats, Atlanta on finally getting “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in its rightful slot after “Nightline”. Now if we in Chicago can only get “Kimmel” on at 11 p.m. Central Time, instead of an “Oprah” repeat… And worse, our station is a network O&O! The management at WSB-TV is already smarter than that of WLS, where they are nothing more than Oprah’s whores.
