7/24: Sidekick for Project 9-6-1? (UPDATED)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I got passed along an audio of an XM show called Ron and Fez where a contributor of theirs by the name of Perrynoid announced last week that he was joining “Giant” Brian Carothers on Project 9-6-1, presumably sometime next month. Here’s the audio.
(Oddly, boss Chris Williams sent me an email Tuesday morning denying this guy is coming to Atlanta or even joining the Giant Show. So if this was some elaborate trick or joke, it sure doesn’t seem to have any real payoff.)
Perrynoid endeared himself immediately by saying, “The Giant Show is doing mornings in Atlanta. We’re going to wake up the [expletive] hillbillies.”
He then botched the radio station name, calling it Project 1-9-6. Ron and Fez did note that syndicated shows in Atlanta haven’t done well and Stern has never been here (at least locally.)
“We’re going to sneak in undercover and under the radar, we’re going to take it by storm.” Perrynoid said.
He then sent a message to 99X: “When the Giant show rolls into Atlanta, all you [expletives] better pack your bags! The mad dog is loose! I have a chain and a collar and we’re all going to eat [expletive] and drink [something I can’t print.].”
A caller came in and told Perrynoid: “Tell that retard he got his numbers wrong. It’s 9-6-1.”
Ron and Fez gave Brian a good word, then Perrynoid added: “It’s really cool to hear a program director [Chris Williams] take a chance on something new in the morning.”
A starting date has not been set but it will likely start sometime next month.

Great to know that they hired a guy who doesnt even know the station he is going to. Another banner move for an awful station. Oh, and Howard Stern is here. I listen every day on Sirius and dont ever plan on listening to “Project 1-9-6,” unless there is an electromagnetic pulse that disables my satellite radio and the only thing left broadcasting is that piece of crap station.

This guy is going to blow chunks. Anyway, the format of 9-6-1 is horrible, and they only get two-thirds of the ratings that The River gets, and The River has played the same 325 songs over and over and over again for the past year or so. You can’t play 8 or 9 emo-screamo tunes and then one Zep or one Aerosmith tune and expect any classic rock fans to migrate. The fans who like new rock can hear it on 99X or DaveFM (or their IPOD/Internet/$atellite/etc./etc./etc.)
Perrynoid & Giant will have come and gone before 2008. Now if only we could get rid of Clear Channel…

Oh yeah, this jackhole sounds great.
1. He can’t get the station numbers correct. 2. He calls us all a bunch of @#$% hillbillies. That’s definitely how you win over your audience, you moron.

Sounds like this Perrynoid guy is mocking shock jocks to me. Maybe his humor is just going over everybody’s heads.

I have heard some of this guys stuff and it’s pretty good. Maybe change is good. Let’s see if he and this Giant guy can do more then talk a good game.

Screw Clear Channel and their “Project”. I wonder what the next format will be when it bombs out in another year or so? Instead of fixing 96Rock (after they made it a shell of what it once was), they came up with this stupid a** Project idea. I’m contently listening to XM and my own music library these days.

For the audio go to www.regularguys.com you can hear what a moron this guy is. “We’re gonna take it these F*ing hillbillys!” Yeah, that is a great way to gain favor with your potential audience.

The problem with this being a hoax is simple: Who the f cares what this guy says? What reason does he have to say that he’s moving to project if he’s not (seeing as this is an XM syndicated show, not based out of ATL- why mention them at all)? Perhaps he was jumped the gun and they’ll be pulling his contract soon, hence Williams’ denial of even knowing him.
Sounds to me like a lame drama stunt to get people curious, at best. C’mon, why would his current show let him have air time to talk (trash talk, at that), about the one he’s leaving them for??
No loss to us either way. This is profoundly pitiful!
