9/28: Project morning show starts 10/1 (UPDATED)

More than two months after “Giant” Brian Carothers was named the new morning show host for Project 9-6-1, his show is finally coming on air this Monday. Brian invited me to show up at 8 a.m. so I’ll try to live blog from there like I did when the new 99X Morning Show started a year ago.

At 5 p.m. Friday, Project introduced Giant Brian on air with a side guy named Shaffee, a wrestler/rapper from Michigan. “We’ll be the Viva morning show with the green card. We’ll be the white V-103 morning show. We’ll be the new Morning X with talent.” Pause. “I know what you’re thinking: 99X still has a morning show? Leslie Fram died four years ago. Thanks to Energizer, she’s still running strong.”

Here’s their MySpace page..

Carothers was the producer at a Philly rock station morning show. This will be Carothers’ first gig as the lead man. Here was the original blog entry on him on July 7..

The rock station has gone its first ten months without a morning show, opting for music, with good ratings. But most rock stations have personality-based morning shows and Project is going for it. Since Fred Toucher and the Regular Guys were ousted last year, Atlanta FM radio has been sorely lacking in that edgy, testosterone-filled morning radio for males who like a bit of Howard Stern-type humor with their coffee. We’ll see if Brian fits the bill.

Rodney, let me know when 96Rock comes back and then I might give a rat’s a$$! But then again, I am quite content with XM these days, so I might not.

The new morning show is gonna suck. Their nu-rock format sucks. Their current rating is a 2.7…they’ll be back down to 2.5 or below for Fall 2007. They will spend more money and lose more listeners. We don’t want to be stuck in the projects anymore…give us back our Rock & Roll station…96Rock!

Given that The River plays the same 325 songs over and over again (with a station bumper between each song…blech) a recreated 96Rock would do much better in the ratings than Reject 9-6-1.

Long Live Rock! (Be it dead or alive)

he looks like someone who could be fun to listen to. I hope so lately the FM dial has had no “edge”.

I don’t know what a project is? Road project? Pet Project? Secince Project? It’s still WKLS 96.1/96 rock, enough said! For us old timers, 96 rock has pretty much sucked *&#$%@, sense the old wake up crew! I don’t know who has sucked more John Bob & Billy, Larry& Eric, or any of the others that have been passed off as something for entertainment!

Atlanta morning radio died when they fired TRG. Now all you hear in the am is a bunch of racist chimps and their (c)rap “music”.

No surprise there… ripping on 99x and Fram - get a life. No one wants to listen to immature boys trash talk other morning hosts; just watch their ratings sink. Project 9-6-1 is a joke, along with their new morning show.

Well, it’s been nice while it lasted. The music mix has been pretty good (if somewhat a bit too predictable & safe) but that’ll be wasted with the introduction of content that would be unbearably annoying in a bar on Friday night much less in your car on Tuesday morning. Watch these two underperform the current music focus mornings within 6 months (once the sampling curiosity is replaced by boredom and/or revulsion). They won’t make it to the next time the Braves are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

I stopped listening to morning radio when the original Morning X broke up. Everything else sucked, and we’re also subjected to that reject Rude on what’s supposed to be Mike & Mike’s spot on ESPN. It’s going to suck when I move back to Atlanta, guess it’s satellite for me.

This show will tank just like Steve Barnes show on 92.9. The NMX is still the morning show of choice.

96.1 was the only radio station that actually played MUSIC in the morning - guess that’ll stop now. I listen to the radio because I want to hear music, not a lame talk show with djs who are trying (too hard) to be comedians.

You radio idiots still don’t get it!! I stopped listening a long time ago, why? Beacuse of the 2 clowns in the picture!! Atlanta radio DOES NOT need this kind of crap. Me, I’m from the old school, intelligent DJ’s who have a passion about the music they play. The whole format thing was old and stale long ago. Radio needs to get back to wht it use to be, playing good music that means something!!
