10/3: Dave FM auditioning new morning show
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Dave FM is auditioning morning show personalities this week from 1 to 4 a.m. A regular comedic contributor to Glenn Beck’s CNN Headline News show Brian Sack has been involved. Last night, former 99Xer Jimmy Baron tried out. “It was a ton of fun,” Baron said. “I’m thrilled to go on the air there.”
Dave has attempted to work the 99X pixie dust before, using former Morning Xer Steve Barnes as morning host for two years to less-than-rousing ratings. He was dumped about a year ago. The station has gone the past year with Barnes’ co-patriot Holly Firfer and a dude who goes by the name Orf. Ratings have been about the same. New program director Mike Wheeler has said he has plans to revamp the morning show at some point. (I’ll update this entry when I get a callback from Mike.)
Baron, out of radio since March of 2006, is developing a couple of TV shows he’s executive producing and recently tried out for WXIA’s “Atlanta & Company.” (He’ll likely play backup to Tommy Sullivan.) He’s also podcasting with former Regular Guy Eric Von Haessler.

Thank God! Furburger is sooooooo horrible, today she mispronounced someone’s name about 4 times. Sorry, it’s not cute it just shows a lack of professionalism. I am looking forward to someone who gives a damn working there, I don’t expect a high dollar comedian, but she is the most annoying person on Atlanta radio and that’s saying something, she’s even worse than Cindy on Star 94.

I agree it is time for a real morning show. I think Orf is pretty funny when they actually let him go off script. I think pairing Orf and Sully from afternoons with a new female host could work. Jimmy would also be an interesting choice.
Whatever direction they decide to go, I hope that we can have a show that intelligent adults can enjoy. Dave’s demographics don’t need an “edgy” show, just something that can make us laugh and possibly spark an interesting dialog on topical issues.

Still think Dave Marino, previous morning anchor on 92.1 when it was Z-93, would be great at Dave. He’s good, he’s edgy (when left to do his own scripting), he’s funny, but he’s real, too. His coverage during 9/11 was deep from the heart.

NO!!! NO Jimmy Baron!!! He was awful on 99X!!! Please, Dave FM, for the love of god do not pick up Jimmy Baron. Barnes was a lame, horrible nightmare and Jimmy will be worse.

really pretty sad that such a strong signal has gone with no morning show for more than a year now.

I think Jimmy would make perfect sense for Dave. I grew up listening to the Morning X and miss his humor. Plus, he’s probably grown up a bit like the rest of us.

Finally Dave is going to give us something. I love the music, but I need more voices. I think Firfir is good, but they stuck her with a side kick who is a bit immature- who is not really funny, for a year! How can anyone be enthusiastic or even give two hoots in that situation. I am surprised she stuck it out this long. I hope they keep her and add someone good. Orf can stay, but they need someone to help him.

I was wondering what they were going to do with the morning show. I think Firfer is talented, if they would let her do something. She was the best thing about Barnes & Firfer. I am well educated and enjoy intellgent conversation. She could handle that- and she was funny. I am up on my news and Hollywood stuff but, that is about it. I want them to give her someone smart and witty. It’s about time dave fm got a morning show back!

Have you guys ever heard of a guy named “Chazz?” He is a black guy who is like this music god. He is funny and has been everywhere. People come to him to find music and he always has something cool to say to them. Hey, try something fresh!! I think he works in insurance for Wachovia. He shouldn’t be hard to find, he’s GREAT!!! Big guy. Why not try him out?? Atlanta needs a new morning guy who knows his music and can connect with the community, not these “It’s all about me,” idiots….
