1/23: Steak Shapiro rants about John Kincade

This morning, 790/The Zone Steak Shapiro went on a rant against 680/The Fan’s John Kincade for dubbing the Zone as “an urban station” in a blog entry on the Fan’s Web site here.
Shapiro accused Kincade, without naming him directly, of being “racist” for using the term “urban,” which is a common euphemism radio professionals have used for years for “African American.”
Kincade was upset that the NHL is putting its promotion dollars with the Zone instead of the Fan, which is home to the Atlanta Thrashers. Here’s a key excerpt:
So the NHL brings the showcase event of the sport to Atlanta and decides to “partner” their marketing effort with a station that does not promote or discuss the sport on a regular basis. The NHL chooses to “partner” for the event with a station that has a majority urban audience. There are NHL fans all over, but the vast majority of the fans of the sport are not following it or getting their information from urban stations.
Kincade, in fact, is not even talking about the NHL All Star game at all as punishment. (The Fan is airing the play by play of the game itself Sunday.)
I have data from the spring of 2007 breaking down the racial audience of each station. The Zone had 48.1 percent black listeners, not quite a majority. The Fan had 15.9 percent in the spring. (David Dickey, who runs the Fan, said the fall 2007 Arbitron numbers indicated a 50% black listening audience for the Zone and 33 percent for the Fan. He noted that the Fan among all radio stations has a listenership most reflective of the racial makeup of the metro area.)
The Zone’s African American audience has flocked to the 2 Live Stews, the most successful black sports talk duo in the country. (Dickey said about 73 percent of the Stews audience was black in the fall vs. 26 percent for Mayhem in the AM and 23 percent for Buck & Kincade.) The bulk of the rest of the Zone’s current lineup is white.
The Zone for a period was regularly beating the Fan in ratings. But in the past year, the gap has disappeared. In fact, the Fan just had its best ratings book ever this past fall while the Zone struggled a bit. The station’s biggest winner was the 2 Live Stews, which edged out Buck & Kincade in the target demo ratings but it got creamed in other dayparts. The Fan ranked no. 6 among men 25-54 while the Zone ranked No. 17.
I got a hold of Steak at about 3:15 p.m. and he repeated what he said on air, with more specificity:
“680 the Fan characterizing us as an urban station is racist,” Steak told me. “The NHL chose us to promote the All Star game because we’re the promotional experts. We dominated the sports scene for 10 years… we are just better at partnerships than 680… Calling us an urban station is bringing race into it. You can have black talk show hosts without being urban. It’s disrespectful and racist… they pulled the race card. They are the NHL station and the NHL turned its back on them. That shows what kind of partner they are.”
The Zone does have about 50 percent black listeners so what’s wrong with being called “urban”? Steak: “We’re not an urban station. We’re a sport station with black hosts and white hosts. There’s nothing wrong with being urban. It’s a great format. If we could get 1/4 of V-103’s audience, we’d be thrilled.”
He saw Kincade’s blog comments as “irresponsible” and sour grapes. He acknowledged that the Fan had a great fall ratings book. “Our job is to be humble and deal with that,” Steak said. “We can deal with it. We can’t deal with lies and racist bull.”
Kincade was surprised by the vehemence of Shapiro’s comments, which he did not hear.
“I think when ratings slip and audience size goes down, people get a little tight under the collar,” Kincade said. “Him attacking me personally on the air or anyone is just childish. It’s sophomoric. It’s so Steak. And the funny thing is I really like him. He’s a really good guy… is he trying to do something to gain attention for his sagging morning show?”
“He’s a brilliant businessman as the success of 790 the Zone has shown. But he knows what urban is. What he’s counting on is his listenership won’t. He’s rabble rousing. He flat out deceives his audience… For him to besmirch me and my station is a desperate move from a desperate guy.”
I emailed an NHL publicist, who said he’ll try to find someone to explain why the league chose the Zone over the Fan. The Zone is helping promote an Usher concert at the Tabernacle and a post-game party at its restaurant Stats.
So is this much ado about nothing? What does the word “urban” mean to you and does it really matter? And should the NHL be marketing with a station that has less of a hockey-listening base as the Zone?

Kincade atacks the NHL for choosing the Zone over the Fan and then complains about Steak responding? Hysterical. Talk about the pot calling the kettle urban. Kincade is the most smug arrogant person on Atlanta airwaves. He make Sean Hannity look humble. Perhaps the Zone should send Cellini and Dimino over there to work him over a little bit. I could care less about Steak but Kincade is a racist. Listen to his show with his constant snide putdowns on the Stew and their mocking dogs and poodles comments and talentless Buck Belue with his alright, alright, alright. How one man can make a career of handing the ball off to Herschel always amazed me.

Kincade indicated in the blog on 680’s website that he thought the NHL decided to go w/ 790 because they paid more money for the rights. Unless it was a HUGE amount more, I think this was an incredibly short-sighted decision by the NHL. For a league that is struggling to get positive publicity any way they can, for them to rely on a station that barely even acknowledges the presence of an NHL team in this city is completely ridiculous. 680 The Fan promotes hockey far more regularly than 790 does, plus they have much higher ratings right now. I agree with Kincade that this is just another stupid decision by the yahoo’s who run the NHL.
P. S. Steak’s an idiot & a blowhard! And he’s the one w/ a racist reaction for taking exception to being called an “urban” station.

Kincade makes me sick to the stomach. He is so racially biased that it’s even obvious to Buck. Buck sometimes makes little wisecracks about Kincade’s views that shows that Buck realize’s that Kincade has problems. Why does the discussion not stay to the point of this whole discussion? The majority of the 790 audience is black and the station never supports the NHL. They ARE an urban station! The better question is why Steak would be offended by a true statement? Is he trying to back away from the urban nature of his audience? If I was an advertiser I’d be asking.

A open letter to Steak/Brisket…Beer companys looks at radio station and conclude that they can not buy it because of its teen content..which by the way is 28%. Fast food companies and insurance companies and many many other companies have seperate advertising dollars for African American advertising. 790 has tounted many of these companies to use those dollars on their station. Becasue they show the 75% AA composition of the stews and its other day parts. I wonder if 790 is now telling those advertisers they are not catering to a AA Audience anymore. I know for a fact they are saying this and getting those dollars. 790 is faultering..they are already p** off most of there sports bar biz with the opening and love fest for Stats..(which by the way got a 2 rating for a resturaunt)…who else are you going to p** off now Steak….you completly changed the entire radio stations line up to combat 680 so many times i quit counting….i think that Steaks daddy and the bean counters that really own the station saw the last year of ratings and came to Atlanta and gave old Steak a spanking…..and now he is taking it out on the air….rule number one in radio Steak…do not…do not…i repeat do not air dirty laundry or a grudge on the air…it makes you look more pathetic than you already are.
as for the NHL using 790 to promote the all star game…just take a look at its TV partner…….Versus….oh my thats a station i have never wanted nor will ever watch….its not a sports station…nor is 790…just last week i was trying to listen to 790…the all new Afternoon Drunkfest live from….drum roll please….Stats Sports Bar…(way to go other sports bars wasting its advertising dollars on a station that owns a Sports bar),all they could talk about was strip bars for almost two hours…..now thats a sports radio station right……not…talk sports not strip bars….talk sports not how great your Sports bar is…no one cares……

His station is a joke and the new lineup is Horrible. He’s just mad because he knows he’s going to get beat down in the ratings again by 680.
Maybe 790 should try some new topics. How about…What Steak Ate?…or What’s Steak favorite Movie…or What’s Steaks favorite Bar? These topics would help the station get more ad dollars for sure!

Maybe people will understand why people like myself listen to 680 over 790….Uhhh because they TALK SPORTS!!!! That’s the point of a “Sports Talk Show.”
And the Stews….Give me a break! Maybe they’ll understand why people like myself listen to Buck & Kincade over them:
Because Buck & Kincade actually TALK SPORTS! No one cares about the NBA, and about the “Hip Hop” News segment. If I wanted to hear about what’s going on in the “Hip Hop” music community I’d listen to V103. I listen to Sports Talk to hear talk about SPORTS!
Buck & Kincade talk the NFL & College Football all year round. That’s what most people care about in Atlanta, and they know it. Like I said, does anyone really care about the NBA?!? I think the lack of attendance at Hawks games, and terrible ratings on ESPN, TNT, etc explain it all.
You can actually HEAR 680!!! It’s pretty bad when as a Tech fan I can’t even HEAR GT games without listening to them on the internet. 790 has the weakest signal I have ever heard by a channel. Hell, I can pickup 960 “The Ref” in Athens better then I can 790.
680 continues to leave 790 in the dust, and Steak and his liberal PC BS is why!

HILARIOUS! Radio personalities get paid to express their opinions, rude/crude/ugly truth etc., and could you expect any less on their blog? Why was Steak reading Kincade’s blog in the first place? I listen to both stations and I regularly hear 680 refer to itself as home of the Thrashers. Kincade just got back from a road trip with the NHL team. Have you ever been to a Thrashers game? Have you ever been to an NBA game? I think Kincade was politely stating that the NHL was making a patently idiotic move. What few NHL fans there are in ATL probably listen to the station that actually mentions the sport more than once ever leap year.

I agree that Kincade has made some racist remarks. The sad thing is he doesn’t even realize he doing it when he uses phrase like “urban” in that context. HOWEVAAA, I believe the Stews are equally racist, if not more so on some days. “The more things change, the more they stay the same!” Supporting a “brotha” ONLY becasue he is black is racist! Also, I am one of the 790 former loyal listeners who switched to 680 because I wanted to hear sportstalk and not talk about how drunk the hosts got the night before at the strip club!

Steak- you sounded like a whining little brat this morning. Stop acting like 790 targets the entire population with their content. The NBA and the Hawks are completely insignificant in Atlanta; yet, you all spend hours and hours discussing a sport and a league most of us don’t give a baker’s ** about. Obviously, you are targeting one audience with that programming. Similarly, you never sniff the NHL, except to say that it’s a horrible league. Once again, you are targeting the same audience.
We’re not all idiots, Steak. We know you all spend tons of money on market research to figure out how to get more listeners. Why compete with 680 for the white population when you can cater to the black population? It makes sense to me. Just don’t act like you all target no one in particular. How stupid do you think we really are? Is it racist if your market research shows ways to attract a certain race?
The fact is, the NHL didn’t listen to your broadcasts or 680’s. If they had, they wouldn’t have a station that regularly denigrates and belittles the NHL to promote their All Star Game.
BTW- What listener hears you all at Stats- a bar- at 7:30 AM on a weekday and thinks, “yeah, that’s where I want to be”? Horrible promotion.

The Zone has targeted their audience and must be doing something right, however I wouldn’t know as I switched to The Fan over a year ago. Being Jewish I am embarrased by the way Shapiro will say anything about his religion just for ratings.He allows his one of his cohorts to make insulting “remarks about Jews”, which I doubt he endorses, but he says nothing..as long as the ratings stay where they are.

I enjoy both 790 and 680. If you want to hear by far the most entertaining show of all time listen to “The Hardline” out of Dallas from 4-8 PM.(guy talk, sports, entertainment) www.theticket.com Station won the marconi award in 2007 for Sports station of the year.

When Kincade was on 790 he made racist comments about blacks spending their weekends eating watermelons and such, and I wrote 790 management expressing my displeasure at Kincades comments and I am white. Kincade has been a borderline racist for a while. After I wrote 790 management about Kincades comments years ago he was magically absent from the start of his show the next day. 790 knows what Kincade is all about.

Also, when I interned at 790 I did a gig with Mike Bell at Three Dollar Cafe. We sat outside during a contest where two people had to sit in two goals for 48 hours to win season tickets to the Thrashers. It was very hot out and Mike said, “I am sweating more then a black man writing a check.” True story.

It is a statement from a sports listening populace and those who consume media that you are a loathsome figure. You are a bully and people know it, people who work with you, people who compete against you, and people who consume your radio station. I didn’t hear Steak’s comments this morning, and my familiarity with the situation is limited to what I have read in this space. Therefore, I won’t be irresponsible and chime in on the import of the comments by either gentlemen. I do, however, want to chime in on the difference between the stations.
Personally, I don’t enjoy anything about 680 because I don’t find any of their hosts terribly insightful or entertaining. The personalities on 790, however, entertain me and offer what I consider interesting and humorous insights about sports and the city in which we live. In my opinion, while predominately a sports station, 790, particularly “Mayhem” and the new “Afternoon Saloon” are Maxim Magazine meets sports talk. In other words, they get the fact that sports is big, but there are a lot of other entertaining things worth discussing.
I spent several years living in New York, and I’ve had ocassion to travel to many cities over the past several years, and I have had the opportunity to listen to many sports talk stations in these cities. And, of all the stations, whether it be 660 The Fan or 1050 in NYC or 980 in D.C., or 870 in New Orleans, 790 is the most interesting, well rounded, and entertaining station I’ve found. And, I think a large amount of the credit for that goes drectly to Steak.

I like John Kincade but he is too opiniated sometimes. Particularly when it comes to African Americans in the news.
His recent slamming of Tony Dungy for moving his family back to Tampa and still coaching Indianapolis was a prime example. He did not want to consider there may be a private family matter or family illness drawing the Dungy’s back to Florida. He was too consumed on his soapbox of making personal attacks about Tony Dungy’s parenting skills.
He also has Randy Moss tried and convicted for assault purely based on a restraining order that has not been issued yet and internet rumors.
As for the show - tomorrow is the 2nd anniversary of the worst 2 hours in Atlanta Radio. Buck and Kincade actually spent 2 hours discussing and hyping up - not the super bowl - not the senior bowl - not the pro bowl - They actually talked about the hiring of Bill Murgrave as Falcons QB coach. Boring Radio at its worst.

I’m a pretty regular 790 listner for the past few years, but lately they seem to be off their game. Not having Churnoff around in the afternoon, and Bell in the morning seems to be making things a little sloppy for some reason. And is it just me or is Doug Stewart seem to be kind of pulling the race card for no reason lately? Anyway, listening to these goof balls try to talk hockey during the handoff this moring was just sad. They know nothing about the current NHL or the local team. As a lifelong hockey fan and a Thrashers fan it was almost insulting. Get it together guys or I’M GONE.

I was sick of the Buck and Kincaid crap about a year ago and tried and tried and tried to listen to the Stews, but as some others mentioned, their show is basically a white-person beat down. Try listening to one of their shows and substituting white for black and see how long before Rev Al would be there picketing. Racism goes both ways and just being AA doesn’t give anyone a free pass. All I can say is I love my XM radio, I haven’t had to deal with either station in a year.

Having listened to both stations for several years, I would agree that the Zone is an Urban market station. Instead of pretending to be insensed by that label, Steak should have embraced it. What an a**!! As far as Kincade goes, he’s actually pretty good most of the time, sorry he has to work with Buck Belue. That guy is like like a bump on a log, just plain boring, definately doesn’t know his stuff.

What actually makes the 2 Live Stews show racist anyway? I have listened for years and they tend to support the athletes and most of the athletes in the sports they cover are black. Does that make them racist? I think not. People need to learn the definition of the word before throwing it out so easily. 680 is far better than 790 across the board. The Rude Awakening was the 6th rated morning show in town, men 25 to 54. Mayhem pulled a stellar 20th ranking in the same category. 790 is a tough listen anytime during the day. This sounds like a last ditch effort for Steak. How many listeners can he attempt to drive away from the number one sports talk station in town? None, if the see past his agenda. Mayhem has been in decline for quite some time now. Rude and the gang do a stellar job, while be extremely entertaining at the same time. As far as Kincade and the afternoon goes, it’s not even close. Buck and John haven’t been the number one sports rated show in town for no reason. 790’s constant attempts to depict 680 in a bad light are laughable. Kincade is the man! 680 is KING!!!!!

Steak Shapiro is the worst on-air personality I’ve ever heard. Does anybody really want to hear a spoiled rich kid that’s been playing with Daddy’s money talk abou the Patriots and Red Sox with such a hard on for 4 hours in the mornings. The best days of Mayhem in the AM are the days he’s not on. I love the thinly veiled contempt every one of the other 790 personalities have for him. He loves to bust their balls over every little thing, but when they do it to him, he gets p**. Spoiled little rich boy has never really worked a DAY in his life. Unless you count hitting the buffet tables, because that’s his chance to put in overtime.

Hey Tony H, buddy if Steak was such a “great business man” like you said….Then explain why The Rude Awakening is rated 6th while the worthless Mayhem In The AM is 20th and continually dropping?!?! While on the other hand The Rude Awakening has risen from 16th to 6 over the past year.
If Steak was in charge of my business and I continue to see dwindling ratings like 790 has seen over the past 2-3 years I think it would be time for a “change.”
What’s funny about this whole situation is The Buck & Kincade Show has now been on the air for 7+ years and in the time span The Zone has changed their drive time programming 4 times. That should tell you something….
The funny thing is the best person in quote on quote “local radio” is a national host in Colin Cowherd. The ratings for his show are through the roof! And what’s funny is it’s simple on how that is:
He talks about Football, football, football, and when it’s not football season, he still talks….Football. It’s a pretty simple equation. The sports that are dying the most in the country right now are the NBA & Hockey. Two sports which Cowherd doesn’t talk much about, unless it’s college basketball.
The sad part about this whole thing is, 790 used to be GREAT! When they had Borderwars Radio with Newberg & Chirnoff for 3 hours a day and the Mayhem in the PM, the station was a blast to listen to! Then it became “political” and became “PC” motivated. That is when I gave up on 790, and 680 re-emerged…..And within 5 years of being the “little” sports talk station, 680 has become #1 for almost 2 years now.
So Tony, what is the “great business man” Steak going to do now that 680 continues to pull away in the ratings war? I hated seeing 99X leave the Atlanta airwaves starting Friday because a “change” was needed….Well, 790 is well on their way to possibly becoming the next “major” change in local radio in Atlanta.
On a side note, I really wish Georgia Tech would move over to 680. Maybe just maybe, people could actually hear their games….Lord knows you can’t hear 790 at night, hell unless your inside the perimeter you can’t even hear it during the day……

Full agreement on Steak being insufferable, stopped listening to his show during the Rocker thing. His vitriole for ratings is shameful. The brothers’ screamfest just offends me and gives me a headache. They need to deflate that ego and remember they are on radio because they are too revolting for tv and because one got chewed up and spit out of the NFL. That said, Buck and Kincaid might not be much better….I’d prefer a show with Dimino and Rude.

790 is an urban station - the signal struggles to reach I-285. It’s definitely not a suburban one.
I’ve listened to the Zone in the morning for many years (when the sum comes up early enough for the commute and they’re able to boost their signal). They’re funny, and when Steak is absent, they actually cover sports pretty well.
Schtik is always going to be part of a morning show, but without Mike Bell, they’ve lost my interest. Restaurants, complaining about everything, and baseball stats are an awkward combination. Next time I hear about baby Sophie, I hope it’s her engagement.
As for 680, Buck can make insightful comments, but only if it’s related to UGA. Otherwise, he basically ignores other programs.
And Kincade is decent on hockey, and has grown enough in the job to keep things interesting. But he’ll never be completely listenable until he abandons the Terrence Moore/Paul Finebaum School of “say something stupid to stir up feedback” - a school that Perri still struggles with in Freshman class.
Sheesh, talk sports, make it funny. And Mr. Bell, watch out for your job - you’re funny enough to keep any show interesting, but with those partners, you’re lugging a lot of dead weight (beyond college football season).

There are a lot of misinformed people here….ummmm did you NOT see the latest Arbitron ratings and its confirmation of the 2 Live Stews kicking Kluck and KinKrap’s AZZ?!?!
And whatever time slot Doug and Ryan move to, they will beat out whatever is on 680 the Klan. They better hope they’re never moved to that morning drive time - but I realize the Stews national syndication deal compels the 1-4pm timeslot right now. Anyway, its just a matter of time before Hometeam and Bell win the timeslot from 4-7.
And why wouldn’t the NHL, which has promotions with Usher and Lil Jon, NOT wish to be associated with a more diverse listening audience? The All-Star game is in Atlanta….that’s in Fulton County….not Coweta.

Steak did hire the Stews because they are black, BUT they talk about sports. Pop culture in a sports shows have ALWAYS been a part of the lineup in a show, it’s just that since the “Majority” of the white audience cannot understand the Stews, and the pop culture topics are not what they are used to (hip-hop,issues,points of view, etc), so they dont listen. Formats in radio are usually genres of music, not races of people (I know we sterotype who listens to the format), but it only makes sense to tap into the black market that is here in Atlanta, its a business. Does it make the station “Urban” because 790 is not following the “Good Ol’ Boy”, or “Standard” way of advertising and promoting? I think Kincade was sour over his staion not getting the promotion with the NHL. Why rant on your website about them “getting money form the beer and bar people”, then go out of your way to say the NHL decided to go with an “urban” station? Did Kincade want the NHL to promote on a station that “caters” to the NHL fan (mostly white listeners)? Didn’t the NHL hire Snoop Dogg as a sponser to help promote more blacks to hockey a year ago? Maybe the NHL did their research and wanted to promote on a station that has a mix of all races, especially knowing that the all star game is in a highly populated black city. I mean why should Kincade stop promoting the NHL now? Here is his chance to do beat his chest some more to the league that he is a staunch advocate still. I do have to say that I heard Steak this morning and felt like he WAS grandstanding a bit, But hey its Election time, I’m used to it. I get a huge laugh when I hear the like of the Zone even think they know anything about hockey. Mike Bell says it repeatedly that hockey “doesn’t move the needle” in ATL’s sportscene. Dimino and Cellini don’t have a clue about it and Steak being from Boston maybe gets it. The Fan gets my nod as the sports station now..at least they talk sports, not about the latest trip to Biloxi/Vegas/Cheetah etc. Yeah you guys “know what guys want”…sure you do…how about some real sports entertainment instead of worrying about the station being urban. Full agreement on Steak being insufferable, stopped listening to his show during the Rocker thing. His vitriole for ratings is shameful. The brothers’ screamfest just offends me and gives me a headache. They need to deflate that ego and remember they are on radio because they are too revolting for tv and because one got chewed up and spit out of the NFL. I personally think steak is a privileged arrogant prick on the air, but I still would rather listen to 790 or stick a hot poker in my eye, than listen to monotonous inane drivel (Zzzzzzz!) that goes for sports talk on The Fan.
With that said, Monsters of the Midday a few months back made fun of the launching of the NHL Network on cable, asking whether anyone cared or would watch, then they even questioned weather anyone in the Metro area really cared about hockey at all.
I have heard similar sentiments and jokes made several times on the show.
Considering that, it’s not the “urban” listener base (or lack thereof) that makes 790 an odd partner for the NHL on All-Star weekend. I wonder if they even listened to any tapes of programming etc. before deciding with whom to partner, or if a talented sales and marketing team managed to hoodwink them.

Since all of this is about race, let me preface this post by saying that I am white. “The Afternoon Saloon” is the best show on radio. By far. They are the only local show that actually discusses sports. The hosts actually have good chemistry. Buck and Kincade are AWFUL! They never have any insight and are extremely boring. The signal in this town is the worst I’ve ever heard for AM in any major market. Anyone OTP can’t hear unless it is daylight. This town needs ONLY one sports talk radio show with a stronger signal that is all local segments and lasts until at least midnight.
790 is an entertainment station. 680 is sports talk station.
Combine them and leave out 680 morning show and drop the Stews. Stews had potential but had to stop listening as they ONLY cater to the black “community” and to their “folk” not to mention bringing race into every conversation.

Wow! Where to start??? Both stations have lost their direction. It’s not college football season, so they have to find something to talk about. Shapario knows that the perception in “THE ATL” is that 790 has become a black, urban, African American station. The 2 Live Stews have higher ratings because they are one of the few all black sports talk shows in the entire Country. I tried my best to listen, but it’s just not for me. They are great “urban” talkers, but without sports substance. The brothers in ATL and all over the US listen because The Stews are their voice. They do not listen for sports entertainment.
I wish the Stews all the success in the world. They have a niche and Shapiro has grasped the moment and the dollars.
Shapiro is an ass, but he knows how to play the marketing game.

Tell Kincade to stop crying. He sucks and bring nothing to talk radio. His biggest problem is he knows he sucks at talk radio. Without the Mike Vick story this fall, he had nothing to talk about. I know because every time I switch to their station, that’s all I heard. If he cared about the NHL that much, he would talk about it more even if the ratings are low. I really don’t have a dog in this fight, but since I have worked in radio, I’ll just throw my 5 cents in. First of all, I have listened to both stations and yes, Buck and Kincaid bore me. Then somethings the fellows on the Zone irritate me because they keep cutting each other off. I won’t go as far as saying Kincaid is racist because he makes fun of the “dogs and poodles”, but certainly he is jealous as hell. He would love to have the national popularity of the Stews, the guest spots on ESPN, the TV show on TV-One. The ink in Sports Illustrated. Despite the recent ratings advantage, Kincaid is still jealous as hell as it irritates him to no end because he feels he is a better sports talk show host than anyone at The Zone, but he doesn’t get the credit or attention. If he has a problem with the NHL partnering with the Zone than complain to the NHL. Don’t bad-mouthed Steak and the crew. Kincaid is embarrassed that despite their hockey coverage, the NHL still went with their competitor. The Zone is not an urban station. It’s a sports station. Urban denotes the music, not just who’s listening. And as far as urban who has been a code word for black. Urban Atlanta is not as black as it use to be. Have you all seen all of those high-rise condos and townhouses with all of those urban whites living in them. Kincaid maybe prejudice, but I think he is simply jealous as hell. But he’s gotten more attention for this than anything he has said during his entire stint at 680. Can anyone remember anything else he has said that has drawn this much attention? Kincaid, be happy. At least people are talking about you now.

Wait, wait, wait….So 790 has changed their format AGAIN!!!? This is now the 5th change since Buck & Kincade took the air late in 2000.
To all the people hyping up the Stews and their ratings that have carried 790 the last 3 years, tell me why did 790 move the Stews to 1-4pm if they were “blowing away” Buck & Kincade in the ratings war?
790 is on it’s last leg, and the 9th new format in 2 years is probably the last shot at any hope of generating some support.

I’m a regular listener of both stations and I think they both have flaws but my main complaint is at 5:43 p.m. I can’t even hear 790 the zone (15 miles from downtown atlanta) and it makes it very tough for us Tech fans to catch a game on the radio. I do have to give it to Steak to being a pretty good salesman; he got the rights to Georgia Tech sports and the only peron over at that station that actually roots for Tech is Ryan Stewart. I personally would like Georgia Tech to tell 790 to take a hike. As for 790 being a urban station, I think they are and there is nothing wrong with that. You can only hear 790 inside the perimeter and the population inside the perimeter is 60% black. Light’n up, Steak! I switch between 680 the Fan and 790 the Zone in the morning so I’ve heard both sides of the issue. I do feel Kincade had some racial undertones when he expresed his displeasure with the NHL using 790 the Zone to promote the NHL Allstar game. The fact is many African Americans listen to 790 the Zone because it is an inclusive station. The hosts are black and white. Just because an African American happens to host a show on the station does not make it an urban station. It’s a sports station that happens to have an African American host. Quite frankly, I think 790 the zone has stolen listeners from 107.9 and V103, specifically in the morning, because it is inclusive and we don’t have to be bothered with all that racial crap. Frankly, the NHL realized 680 the Fan can’t promote s**t. 790 the Zone has had the Bye Bye Buckhead celebration, AFC-NFC Championship party every year and their personalilities are always mingling with the people. If Steak, Doug, Ryan, or Hometeam were out promoting an event, people will come because they don’t have the elitist attitude that the jerks on Mayhem in the AM illustrate on a daily basis.

2 Live Stews. It is what it is..A show created for black listeners. However, more power to them. One note of caution to Doug’e Fresh - its obvious you can push your buttons on the race card. That’s OK in the Low Country and the ATL, but you better work on that now before something happens at ESPN or the SNR.

Am I missing something? What is it that makes you comfortable talking about sports when you have probably never donned a jock strap in your entire life? To me, it is simple- listen to the Stews who have actually lived and breathed athletics at a high level. Or listen to Kincaide who is utterly incompetent at discussing anything other rhythmic gymastics. The BS he spews might have more meaning if it came from someone who had actually accomplished something athletically in his lifetime. Unfortunately, badminton and figure skating don’t sell down here in the south. So go back to Philly you punk. And don’t give me the “well Buck won a natl championship” crap, cause we all know who he was handing the ball off to every down.

I used to listen to 790 in the morning, but they have taken a turn for the worse. It may be getting better now with Dimino, but Steak is awful. It’s all Boston, food, and restaurants. His restaurant infatuation has even led to Willie Salucci of the Palms doing Golf plugs here and there. He’s terrible.
And then there are the annoying Sandra Golden clips and commercials (especially Soloman Brothers…iiinnn Buucckkhheaadd!!). Steak needs to step out the studio and into the boardroom. Or start a show with Rachel Ray.

You can’t pick up 790’s signal outside I-285. It’s known as the perimeter of the city. Cities are “urban” areas. Therefore, it’s urban. Why does nobody get p** at country music stations?
Anyway, I would assume Kincade was saying that the Thrashers’ audience comes from outside the city (suburban),which is where I’m guessing a good portion of 680’s listeners are. Both Buck & Kincade are from the burbs.
This whole thing sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me. I pretty much stopped listening to 680 when Kincade started making all sorts of assumptions about Sean Taylor’s death that weren’t true. Neither station holds a candle to 960 the Ref from Athens. They don’t get off track and start talking about Maxim spreads and how tall the grass is on each golf course.

Today he states, “The Rooney rule in NFL hiring practices need to be abolished because of reverse discrimination”. Without the rule, many qualified black coaches would not ever coach an NFL team. Its true Steak you can be a black talk show host and not be considered “urban” but you are kidding yourself if you think the “stews” show is not all about “urban” “black” whatever you want to call it. You use the word racist and you only have to listen to that show 5 minutes to tell it is racist and meant for a black audience. I’m a white UGA fan and alum from Woodstock, and I think 790 is by far the better station. The morning show is witty and intelligent, compared with the mundane drivel on 680. And the Buck & Kincade act got old a long time ago. OK, we get it, one is a southerner and the other is an obnoxious Yankee. But to me, Buck is the obnoxious one, with his condescending attitude toward UGA fans. If it weren’t for UGA, Buck would be flipping burgers in Valdosta.

You know it’s really sad to sit here and read some of these comments from some of you obviously intelligent non-racists. You should listen to yourselves, better than that, read some of your comments, if indeed you can read and smell your racism. All you guys have ideas about what’s you think is sport radio and what’s not. This is an opinion not a fact. To say Steak or Kincaid are experts in the area of sports is subjective, in other words that depends whose listening. There are days when Steak sounds like a nut, and others when Kincaid sounds nut. Now to speak about being racist listen to the comments on both sides, but to the one being ridiculed and put down are the “Stew” who aren’t part of this feud. Remember that’s why this is America if you don’t like the programming change the station. I have to agree with one the previous comments maybe there is a small degree of jealousy by Kincaid and his followers with the success of the “Stews”. Have you smart guys ever thought that Kincaid and Steak may not be the smartest hosts on the planet.
Neither God nor Jesus died to make Steak or Kincaid the local experts. The sad part of all this is the GST in WGST 680 actually stands for Georgia School of Technology. The station now promoting UGA incessantly started out as the school radio for what now is Georgia Tech.
Buck and Kinkade both stink when it comes to any kind of partial interviews. They talk a good game, but you can tell their hearts, or their paychecks, are tied to UGA and always will be.

There are no sports talk radio stations in Atlanta, Georgia. 790 The Zone is run by carpet baggers and 680 the Fan is just there with a bad lineup and John Krapcade. And what kind of name is “Steak”. People it is 2008. We just had 2 (count them) 2 American men of African descent coach their respective teams in the Super Bowl last year. We have an American man of African descent as the leading democratic candidate for President. It’s been 40 years since Dr. King was assasinated and yet we are arguing about 1 radio show that is hosted by 2 brothers of African descent? How pathetic that people take the time to write such negative things about the 2 Live Stews. Ever since people of African descent began reading (which used to be a death sentence) we have had other people trying to claim we aren’t capable or I can’t understand what their saying. what kind of human being can live in this world of other humans and continue to believe that we are so different? Will it take a radio signal from another planet to bring you people into reality? People of African descent have always been talented and successful in every arena they have been allowed to participate in. For the most part the same could be said of people of Asian descent or European descent.Steak is an ass no doubt but at least he gave diversity a chance. 680 i used to like ‘Fro going at it with what’s his name when I first came to Atlanta from N.Y.C. in ‘02. What happened? Doug of the Stews is my fellow alumni and Ryan played pro ball with a another alumnus of ours so there was automatically a natural affinity for their show. I listen to them for a different reason that school loyalty or race loyalty however. As hard as it is for a lot of 680 fans to accept the bottom line is that T.V. Shows, national syndication, and articles in Sports Illustrated can only represent one thing. Excellence will always outshine mediocrity and excellence will always get the recognition it deserves whether it’s so called “urban listeners” here in Atlanta or all of the celebrities, athletes and WHITE BOYS fromALL OVER THE COUNTRY who call in and give my homeboys from S.C. their props. Quit hatin’ and awaken !!! A new day has dawned and believe or not Georgia rednecks and people of African descent have more in common than differences. Wow, these comments are all mostly racist as hell, though entertaining. I am an African American that grew up 20 minutes from Philly and loves sports. So, to say that this issue is one close to my heart, is to say the least. My take is that, though Kincade is my homeboy, he is mostly racist, unentertaining and usually incorrect on air. The Stews (how did they get dragged into this mess anyhow?) are a good look in the industry as they offer something that was needed—a fresh perspective that is different from the norm, while being entertaining. The proof is in the putting—they KILLED Buck(worst talent on the radio) and my homeboy in the ratings for the last 5 years. The ONLY reason why 680’s ratings have superseeded 790’s is because Colin Cowherd is the best show in sports talk history, and the other ESPN shows are better than their local 790 counterparts. Between both stations you only have one good local show (the Stews), and one great show (that happens to be national) in THE HERD. I will give Kincade and Steak equal credit in saying what ever they must to try to gain listenership. The sad thing is that with the high population of educated transplants, that trick doesn’t work as well as keeping a full line up that offers fresh perspectives like the Stews and the Herd. Maybe both stations can shut down and a station with a strong enough signal that can be heard 24 hrs a day can get the Stews, the Herd and 4 or 5 other good national shows (no Stephen A. please—-he’s on Buck’s level talent wise) on and really sustain. Unfortunately, neither station sticks with Sports talk. Both stations are quite self indulgent with alot of personal talk. Very little sports to talk about. And if the subject is not about local sports teams (which amounts to very little) you don’t get much of anything regarding sports. Buck (gossip artist) and Kincaide (smug and negative) make sure that they unlease plenty of negativity towards afro-americans or teams comprised of a reasonable number of afro-americans. Whenever the opportuniy arises, they both (680 personalities) do it. Of course if any subject regarding UGA football comes up there is little or no negativity, objectivity and of course no gossip. Problem is when they discuss anyone else, Buck spreads the gossip with plenty of sarcasm and Kincaide doesn’t hide his racial bias.

A few points:
I really enjoyed The Two Live Stews when they were just beginning on the mid-afternoon slot. I drifted away from them for many of the reasons listed (poor preparation, too much time spent discussing fringe topics).
Atlanta is such a college football/ Georgia town, or at least that is really all that seems to get any traction on either station.
NHL? Who cares, really? I would much rather listen to the national shows or WFAN online rather than those found here. The level of preparation is just so big. In fact, I think these two spatting shows how poor their mindset is. Do they honestly believe that being better than Steak or Buck and Belue is the gold standard of their profession? They’re competing with ESPN, streaming audio, the web, etc, yet they don’t get it at all.

No sports talk show in this town is all that great. The Black dudes on 790 are just too hip-hop for my taste, but Dumb (Kincaide) and Dumber (Belue) are sorry too. I get tired of Belue cutting off Kincaide every time he tries to say something. Belue does that ALL the time as if everything he has to say is THAT important. And I’m weary of Kincaide saying “Whaaaaat?” when Belue makes an earth-shattering statement. Those two are very tiring in that regard…but I’ll listen to 680 before I’ll try to understand 790…that’s just the way it is with me!

Shapiro is off base. I was a loyal fan of 790 until I realized that their content did not fit my interests. The term “urban” does not mean anything derogatory. In fact, it has more to do with socio-economics than with color of skin.

Sometimes in life - the truth hurts. I listen to both show for totally different reasons. College Football is 680 and just plain good humor is 790. 790 is Urban (never knew that was a bad word). Seems to me like everyone just needs to get a little thicker skin (ok maybe not Steak - he is big enough).

Both stations are mediocre, with little substantive sports talk, and are filled with ESPN wannabes trying to say things to get callers. It’s pathetic that a city the size of atlanta can’t have a real sports talk show like they have in LA, Chicago or NY. But, atlanta is called loserville for a reason—you can’t even pick up the signals for these stations outside of downtown—-amazing. Regarding hockey—at least Kinkaide (who is arrogant) talks about it on his show. Not many in atlanta even care about it. B&K have a much better college football discussion—-the Zone goes off on wild rants about irrelevant topics. But both shows are substandard.

This is to the guy Dave who posted that the Stews “killed” Buck and John in ratings for five years. You need to first know your facts. First the Stews have not been on in the afternoon fr five years and second the Buck and Kincade show is the highest rated sportstalk show in Atl and has been for quite sometime. It may be b/c of the UGA football talk and UGA fans feeling as if they should listen to 680 b/c of Buck and the fact 790 is the GT flagship but the fact remains the Stews NEVER touched the rating Buck and John got.

If any talk radio host gets you stirred up enough to comment then they have done their job positive or negative. It’s all about ratings. The more talented one’s can take any side of an issue and persuade you to at least think about it. The Stews are good at it as well as John and Buck. They play good cop bad cop very well. The bottom line is the bottom line. There are only so many listeners out there and both stations are constantly trying to build their audience. John’s comments are not racist. They are an attempt to pull in a wider demographic for the Zone. I hope we never stop having choices to make because of piling on the race card.

Kincaid is not a racist. He’s a jerk, but not a racist. He takes shots at the Stews because the Two Live Stews is a stupid show with stupid content and narrow minded listeners. I don’t care for Kincaid, but I’ve heard him support minorities for coaching jobs and QB jobs when he thought they were being mistreated, or people giving misconcieved opinions. The guy has weaknesses, but racism isn’t one of them. What makes me mad is that I know in on Philly stations, where Kincaid comes from, they wouldn’t allow for the hosts pineing away for Atlanta teams.

Look, ESPN learned the deal on the stooges, err…, Stews a while back. You don’t go from ESPN to Fox. It’s a step backwards, as is moving from afternoon drive to the 2 pm hour. I can’t listen to steak and the boys anymore…If it wasn’t for his diddy’s money I guess he could be a waiter or bus buy somewhere. Dimino never shuts up, thinks his opinions, like Rush, are the stuff gold is made from. Steak and that bunch are worse than Terrance Moore, no opinion that they can back up. The stooges, gosh they are awful!!! They got crushed often on First Take on ESPN by Skip, I know nothing, Bayless.
Oh well, as another poster said I get 960 better than 790. Steak needs to start over cause they are faltering and heading out the door otherwise. Diddy can only bleed so much money.
Stews have never, never ever have gotten close to B & K ratings, if the Stu’s did they would still be doing afternoon drive and Buck and Kincade would have been moving. I do believe it is the other way around. The two biggest times for listening audiences are morning drive and afternoon drive not the middle of the day, which is has the least amount of listeners except for overnight. Well the Stooges do have their deal with Fox sports so they should be getting paid for the duration of that.

I am an ex- Buck and Kincaid listener because I felt Kincaid was overly passionate in most of his comments about Black sports stars. I like the Fan. I like Buck (SEC/Alabama) however, for a long time my fustration with Kincaid’s “comments” concerning black’s made me feel. He has a problem, so I voted with my listening habits. I miss you Buck!

790 is an urban station. Their signal strength is terrible. I cant even get them in Smyrna. Atlanta is an urban area, 790 signal doesn’t get past the city, thus 790 is an urban station.

If the Stews are “so successful”, then why did they lose their PRIME 4-7 spot? They moved to 1-4.
Spare the “syndication contract” excuse. They were moved while their razor this ratings lead is intact. The syndication deal wasn’t as good as the one they had.

Since coming to ATL in 2000, I started listening to 790 and couldn’t get excited about the content. Just don’t think they’re that smart. Then moved to 680/FAN and was mildly suprised. It was short-lived as B&K have a terrible show. Kincaid simply isn’t very good and Buck is just plain stupid at times. Switched to serious so I can get ESPN all day, anytime and have never gone back. BL is that they both are bad stations short on talent.

This spat is overblown but the hate and venom spewed towards the Stews (which I really don’t know how they got involved anyway) is not. I detect jealousy.
And for the people who say that they wouldn’t fly in other markets, they are a nationally syndicated show! For all the people on this board who claim not to listen to them, they must be doing something right. I bet a lot of you never even listen to the show. Buck and Kincaide obviously listen from time to time that’s why one of them sometimes ends his calls with “and he’s gone…..”

It’s the NHL that is obviously targeting a different demographic. 790 didn’t set up Wyclef, NeYo, & Usher….the NHL did and they hired 790 to promote it! Kincade is sour grapes and it’s all his fault. I listen to 680’s Morning show because I like Rude…Laurentino, on the other hand, sometimes gets on my nerves (as I am sure he tries to do.) I am African American & while I take no offense to the term “urban” in general, Kincaid does utilize the term often enough & in a certain context that tells you he means “African American Audience”, but with certain undertones that don’t come accross well. Like Laurentino, I am sure that he takes the controversial role because of programming (vs. a deadpan Buck…no offense, Buck…I’m a UGA Grad…nothing but love for you!). I think that Kincaid does come across as smug & somewhat uncomfortable with African Americans in general. Just my take.

sports talk radio in Atlanta is as terrible as the rest of the am/fm stations. For a city the size of Atlanta and the culture diversity one would think there would be options all over the dial…Unfortunalely that is not the case. I used to listen to 790 in the days of A.J. Cannon, Beau Bock, and (alas) Steak. At that time they were pretty good! After they switched to whoever is on now I dialed into 680. Today I listen to neither. 680’s lineup in the morning of Rude, Laurentino, and Finneran is ho-hum at best. Rascist, I don’t think so. But, definetely sexist. If one were to talk, suggest, imply the things that are said to their female guests I would guess a charge of sexual harrasment would be in their near future. As far as Kincade and Belue. A couple of years ago I attended a 680 March madness event at the Park Tavern that was advertised to have discounted beer and barbeque. The beer was 5.00 the sandwiches were 8.00. Discounted? But, there was Kincade…yes, in person. But, what struck me was that he had some kind of surrogate who would approach him and advise him that there was someone who wished to talk to him…..Talk about pompous! Then Belue made his grand entrance with his entourage. Munching on his pork sandwich and immediately strove into a corner of the room where he made it clear that his turf was off bounds to just anyone. These guys act like They are Tom Cruise or Denzel Washington! They are radio hosts for pete’s sake….nothing more…That’s when I turned off my radio for good and went to CD’s.

John Kincade is truly a moron. I agree that people can say what they want but you have to pay for what you say. I blame his parents and friends for his pompous asinine comments and behavior. Someone should have taken him out back and beat the crap out of him during his upbringing. He would be a better person. Why is it every time I listen to 680 there is some derogatory comment about black people. The Vick thing was ridiculous. When most stations let it go as Vick just being the dumbest athlete in the history of sports, Kincade kept the P-Funk and Q Dog jokes going. He has angry white man disease and it manifests itself in everything he says and does on the radio. How on earth is 790 an urban station? If “urban” is code for black, 790 has 27 personalities on there web page and 5 are black. That is 19 percent. Really urban. Once again a comment centering around race. Nothing he says in incident after incident can be looked as being more than just an idiot with a microphone but if you look at the body of things he says over a span of time, the guy has racial issues. Too bad a guy like Buck is tied to the hip with him.

Frankly, both of these stations are pathetic excuses for sports talk radio stations. Steak is a pompous blowhard who knows little to nothing about sports. I don’t give a crap about his family, his favorite movies, or his favorite restaurants (and these are the only topics he seems to know). He very well may have some business acumen, but he has no business being on the air. 680’s morning show is also pathetic. Christopher Rude?? Give me a freaking break. He could be the one person on air that knows less about sports than Shapiro.
Both of these stations suck. The sports content is minimal and the entertainment value isn’t much better. Both have weak signals. I can actually pick up stations from Boston, Cincinnati, and New Orleans crystal clear at night, yet can’t hear either local station.
And while we’re at it, the AJC sports coverage sucks, too. This entire rag is nothing but a bastion of liberal race baiting. Any issue can and will eventually become centered on race.

790 IS an urban station. You can’t pick it up 10 miles outside the perimeter. That would make it URBAN, not RURAL.

The reason I don’t listen to 790 the Zone in the morning is because I don’t like feeling like I have been abducted and dropped in a Philly Sports Bar were all the patrons have stayed one drink too long. Listening to those voices in the morning is like waking up to a drill in your head. Laurentino at 680 the Fan is pretty bad, but while Ruud is definitely a sexist, at least his voice doesn’t make you want to pull your hair out.

To me, there IS no comparison. 790 has totally dominated 680. The only reason 680 has any life left is because they’ve essentially given up on local programming for the majority of the day and deferred to national programming. I’ll admit, 790’s new lineup is somewhat watered down, with Bell in the afternoons. But, the team of Buck and Kincade is about as appealing as steamed garbage!! Kincade is a given idiot, and Buck….he’s a Valdosta State Blazer!!

He couldn’t stand the Stews, because that wiped his and Buck Boring butts all over the place, oh and they happened to appeal to an urban audience, and just becuase they were black. They had better guest, they had better BANTER (didn’t think we knew that word, eh Klancaide??), and Chemistry. Further, I prefer 680 in the morning with Rude thank Steak and his crew with Mayhem. Although they are pretty funny. Rude is funny becuase I liked him on 96 Rock. Loved it when Jamie was on the air with him, the sit ins after have a lot to be desired from a chemistry stand point. But Buck Baloney and John Klancaide just plan suck. They are boring and completely unintersting and I am amazed that they are still on the air. As for the NHL, they are trying to appeal to a more diverse audience. Their contract with 680 is just that a contract. It was a clear and purposeful snub of 680, why?? For the crap that comes out of Klancaides mouth. Racist clown.

What else would you expect from someone like Steak. I used to like his morning show until he cut loose the only real reason to listen, Mike Bell. Yes, Steak, what listeners really want is more Sandra Golden. Vomit. Seriously, how does twit have a job much less two, with her gig on CSS. I do find it funny how Shapiro loves to race bait on a daily basis when it comes to Michael Vick or any other racial incident in sports/Atlanta. However, when it deals with calling 790 what it has become a sports station that skews to the urban audience, he freaks out. Is Steak embarassed that his station has a large urban audience or does he not want to accept it. I think the blame falls on Steak Shapiro, pure and simple.

Wow! 790 The Zone has ONE show that caters to the African-American audience and that makes them “urban”. Give me a freaking break! With that logic, I guess all of the major TV networks were “urban” at one point or another: ABC “My Wife & Kids”, CBS “Chicago Hope” and NBC “The Cosby Show”. I never heard anyone accuse those corporations of being “urban”. Besides, being an African-American sports fan, I couldn’t disagree more with many of the host at 790 concerning various topics. This is a case of Kincade stirring the pot and trying to mobilize his so-called “base” of white Southern males. It’s an old political trick. Paint the competition as the “BIG, BLACK THUG STATION”, and get the white Southern males all in a frenzy so that they flock to their safe haven at your station… where white males can discuss all things important to white males. What a joke. Listen, the Stews are not for Southern white males. I understand that. But also understand that Buck and Kincade are not for African-Americans. Therefore, with that show being part of your line-up, I guess that makes 680 The Fan a “Redneck” station. Loser!

You have got to be kidding me. Steak is the most pompass ass on Atlanta radio. I listen to both radio stations and and by far 680 promotes Hockey 100% more than 790. 790 is based on humor more than sports which at times I enjoy both but if you want to hear about Georgia Football, NHL Hockey, and real sports 680 is the way to go.
By the Way, The 2 Live Stews are the most racialy bias radio host in Atlanta and they reside on 790 the zone.

Urban describes the type of music you play or format you program.
On a sports radio station, a show can be Urban, but the whole station cannot be Urban.
No one calls 680 the Fan Country and Western or Thrash Metal!
I actually love Chris Rude, and Brian Finneran so I flip btween both shows in the morning. Cowhert can be annoying and is getting worse since his divorce. Mike Tirico has zero Charisma so the show relys too heavily on the cohost.
The new afternoon show with B.A. and Wolvy is overmatched, these guys both need a stronger or smarter cohost.
The Afternoon Saloon is weird because Mike Bell is your classic Morning Show personality miscast between a smart antithesis of a man’s man and a nice play it safe painfullly nonsocial nerd.
I agree with Kincaide that the “Dumb” NHL made a dumb marketing decision by ignoring the only station that even cares about the NHL.
The reality is that the NHL cannot beat fourth run Law & Order reruns on a consistent basis.
Buck and Kincaide run the gammut from extremely boring to excellent on shows in Buck’s wheelhouse!
The Stews are much better entertainers as witnessed by their national following, but much less informed on sports outside of the NFL.
The Stews are on ESPN, TSN. etc. are those organizations “Racist”?

790 had a good run on top, too much tinkering with the lineup and too much shameless plugging have taken its toll.
790 needs to decide if they want to be Howard Stern lite or sports talk. If they really want to do sports talk, they have the talent to beat 680.

For all the so-called “experts” claiming that the Stews are huge success, please look into the Arbitron archives to see just how wrong you all are. Just ask anyone who works at Radio One on why they had to cut loose the Stews first adventure into syndication. It was a complete disaster. Being syndicated on Sporting News Radio is not all that exciting since it was cut from XM and bounces around the dial on Sirius. I noticed that someone said that the Stews were on Ch. 169 on XM and if I’m not mistaken that is AA Talk and not sports talk radio. Interesting, maybe they should stick with that angle since when they do talk about sports their information is incorrect 2/3rds of the time.

I’m wondering if Steak is ashamed that his station does target an urban audience. Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t believe they created 2 Live Stews with the idea of targeting Larry Whitebread up in Alpharetta or Juan Valdez in Lawrenceville.
Like the old Parcells line, you are what your record says you are, in radio, you are who you target. Rodney already laid out the listener percentage, so what’s Steak so p** about?
Hey Steak, you live in the ‘urban’ mecca of the US, and you get the majority of African American sports talk listeners. Be proud….and find something important to complain about(like the fact that 680 beat you this time around).

This is a non-controversy. Kincade is right-790 is urban- this is a code word for blacks wouldn’t watch a hockey game if it was in their backyard. So what. Most white native Atlantans wouldn’t either. Ice is something that goes in sweet tea.
I try to listen to both stations in the morning,switching back and forth between the two in the hope that one of them will actually talk about sports. What do they talk about? 680 has a spin using talk of Britney Spears and other tabloid trash, and that non-entertaining Perry Laurentino raving about conservative politics and his own boring take on everything. Ruud is another in a long line of out of work DJ’s who apparently have naked pictures of the producer, otherwise they couldn’t do the weather on a country station.
790 is insufferable- they have more money because they have twice the commercials. Steak talks endlessly about food and what strip joint they hung out at the night before and Mike Bell is hungover because he was dogging chicks at one of the bars he lives in. Who cares #2.
Sometimes I catch the Stews and Buck and Kincaide if I am out in the afternoon. Buck is a favorite and one of the good guys- Kincade is interesting because he occasionally makes a good point. However he is the epitome of the radio industry’s lead philosophical idea- Atlanta listeners are unsophistocated rubes who must be directed by a Big East perspective on sports because: they have no really good locals who haven’t moved here from Philly/New York/Boston, and they can’t appreciate a really good hoagie/blintz/hero/cheesesteak/etc. like we had in the old neighborhood up north. Kincade/Laurentino/Cellini/Dimino/Steak e.g.
The Stews are full of themselves with their shtick- I hate to hear all that dog barking alright,allright,heya heya stuff.But black athletes will talk to them and it’s nice to have a perspective of the guys who actually play the game- kudos to them for that.
Another underlying theme of both stations is that Atlanta natives are bad fans and don’t deserve pro sports because they won’t support their teams. The Hawks are a joke , the Falcons are a tragedy. Atlantans won’t come out and mindlessly watch bad sports like Cub fans. They want excellence and won’t watch bad teams, period. But there was a day in the early ‘90’s that the Braves and Falcons sold out BOTH stadiums at the SAME TIME. How many other cities in the Country have done that?
So all of you Northeners/transplants take your hoagies with you and go back where you came from. Plenty of Atlantans are helluva sports fanatics and could give a better take on things than you guys can any day.
By the way- if you were a pilot and had to contact the tower for landing instructions in a storm- what kind of radio would you use? FM - because it has better reception and is reliable.IF you had an AM radio in your plane, you would plow into Stone Mountain. GET AN FM SIMULCAST YOU IDIOTS

Their weakness is evidenced by the airing of the Nationally Syndicated “Mike Toreko” show which comes on around mid day. I do listen to that BUT not because it is on 680. That station could use some diversity…they are really geared to one audience only. Say what you will about 790, they have a broad cross section of race & point of view in most of their programs. Each show from (Mayhem to Afternoon Saloon)gets a variety of callers with different opinions. Does “Race” enter the equation sometimes, sure. The difference is that it is not visceral or blatently devisive…like Kincaid’s comments.

I’ve never understood the whole 2 Live Stews Hip Hop sports talk format. Why does sports talk need to be marketed to a specific race? Last time I checked sports is multiracial. So in my opinion simply talking about sports IS marketing to all races. Do you really need hip hop music in the background or talking about Jay-Z in between sports stories to interest black people in sports talk? It is no different than Fox News pandering to right wing people. It is disingenuious because it assumes that you need your information pushed thru a filter you can understand. In the Zone’s case it has to be filtered thru hip hop lingo and dogs barking in order for black people to relate to it. If I were a black person in Atlanta I’d be insulted and embarrassed at the 2 Live Stews show. As for this tif between Steak and Kincade…who cares? Steak spends most of his time talking about food (who cares, I want to know how the Falcons new coach is going to do or what Paul Johnson’s offense will look like next fall) or gambling. Kincade is too busy watching himself talk in a mirror and enjoying the sound of his own voice to know a football from a baseball. I’m indifferent about Buck Belue. But at least he’s a local guy. Why should people from Atlanta have to listen to sports talk from people who are obviously from the northeast? I like Chris Dimino (perhaps the smartest sports guy around), but everybody sounds like an episode of the Sopranos on the Zone, except Chuck Oliver (also a very smart sports guy) or are Mets/Philly fans in a Braves/Falcon market at the Fan. I think it is pretty ridiculous that the NHL decided to put their advertising $$$ with a station that has never even mumbled the word Thrashers. I’ve noticed that several people on this blog are claiming that in this context, the term “urban” is strictly defining the fact that 790’s signal is not strong outside of the perimeter… how ignorant. Look people. “Code speak” has been around ever since political correctness became in vogue. “Urban” is the code word for black. “Thug” is the new N word. “Shucking and jiving” is a way of calling African-Americans buffoons. I would always switch to The Buck and Kincade show when The Stews, and now The Afternoon Saloon, would go to commercial break. However, this Kincade guy has gone too far now in my opinion with his race-baiting. As an on-air personality in a diverse market like Atlanta, I expect for him to be more responsible. The Stews beat B&K Barely (by 0.2). Every other show on 680 DESTROYED every other show on 790 in just about every demographic. It wasn’t even close. It’s time for the truth to be told! The only reason that Shapiro is mad about the comments is becuase of his own deep seeded racism! He does not want his station to be associated with people of color, and yeah I know the argument will be,”we have the 2 Live Stews” but that is nothing more than the same ol’ excuse that all racist use like,”I have black friends” or “I’ve had black people in my house”. When does this crap stop?!?! As an African-American male, I am sick of the racism that my people are continually forced to deal with in this country. What will it take to show that people of color are equal in every facet of life? I think that fear is the root cause of racism and these 2 so-called radio personalities only prove that by the words that they speak. The recent Tiger Woods incident has sickened me to no end, and the way that Tiger has handled it has been excellent. A lot of people feel that Tiger doesn’t say enough when situations like this come up, but you have to really look at what he does. HE DOMINATES THE GAME OF GOLF LIKE NO ONE ELSE HAS, AND WILL GO DOWN AS THE BEST EVER. SO HIS SOCIAL COMMENTARY IS, I’M BETTER THAN YOU AND INSTEAD OF TALKING ABOUT IT, I’LL JUST DESTROY YOU EVERYTIME I STEP ON THE COURSE! I think that this is the best way to fight racist, and the most effective because there is no argument for Achievement!

The NHL made a pretty big mistake. I am not a huge sports fan, but at least on 680 they TALK about hockey. As far as the “urban” comment goes, it’s simple marketing that’s at issue here. Are “Urban” audiences really that focused on hockey? There is nothing racist about the comment and all Steak has done is promote the competition at 680.
Also, why is Usher having a concert at an NHL game? Why not a candadian band or Lil’ Jon who actually supports the team!?

The real issue above all of this fluff is how awful Atlanta’s sports talk, talk radio and radio is in general. Atlanta, a top 10 market has a horrible selection of mediocre to poor stations with pathetic talent.
Steak wouldn’t have an on-air job in a third tier market if his buddy hadn’t bought a station for him. The rest of these hacks are lucky Atlanta has such limited competition. They call it sports talk? The only sports talk is the never-ending, vacuous, soliloquies of piffle as these jerks love to listen to one thing; their own voices.
With the advent of satellite radio and as more choices open up on the airwaves, these amateurs will disappear back to the Northern college stations where they belong.

I used to listen to the Zone but was turned off by Kincaide and his racist comments. Buck, being a former GA, SEC player is more circumspect and I used to enjoy his down home humor and comments. I do not understand why the Zone keeps Kincaide as part of their best lineup. Their ratings are up but only in this market! The Stews are being syndicated because they can reach a more diverse audience not just rednecks and racists! Buck and Kincaid would never be syndicated on any level!

This is typical of why sports talk radio needs diversity.
To begin with, 680’s numbers have always been on a down trend because they do not really push for diversity in their programming.
What’s even more troubling is that neither Steak nor Kincaid even understand what the word “urban” truly means. The word urban has nothing to do with African Americans. It has everything to do with the culture that surrounds it. Normally urban includes those who listen to rap or techno/industrial music, who wear such fashion gear from the makers of Rocca Wear, Ecko, Sean Jean, Apple Bottom, etc., and who are of an age demographic that puts more emphasis on the younger generations (below 30) but range anywhere from the 14 - 29 age demographic.
Urban is not considered a negative connotation because the word transcends race. It is the very epitome of why rap music crosses racial barriers, why the fashion crosses and why there seems to be more racial ‘harmony’ amongst that demographic than any other.
If the NHL is going with the Zone, it’s not because of the Two Live Stews. It is going that route because of the success of the marketing that Shapiro and others have done over the years.
But it also shows why a city like Atlanta needs to have a diverse talk radio format with hosts who know what the heck they are talking about. For Kincaid to make asinine statements like he made shows EXACTLY why 680 is in the toilet during Arbitron ratings.

When it comes to sports and entertainment, 790 blows 680 away hands down. I don’t necessary 100% agree with Steaks comments, but I understand where he is coming from. Kincaide is very jealous of the success of the Stews with their national syndication and ESPN appearances. 790 supports all of Atlanta (wish the signal reflected that though). Kincaide’s view of Atlanta stops just south of exit 7 on GA-400. I doubt that he goes to that many Thrashers games since that forces him to drive into the city. Scary thing about Kincaide is that he is a race bater and he does not even know it.

It always amazes me how Buck and Kincade get any positive feedback on their show - it just demonstrates how bad sports radio is in the South. Listen to Mike and the Mad Dog on 680 in NY - they offer real insight into the NY teams, their strengths and weaknesses, the moves they might make etc. In comparison Buck seems bored out of his mind - compare his standard afternoon performance with the way he handles showcase opportunities with ESPN where he suddenly unveils some really interesting stuff e.g. on the NFL draft. As for Kincaid all we hear is a lot of loud mouth opinion and smug self-congratulation backed by a thin veneer of real knowledge. Don’t you just love it too when he tries to be the tough man - a hard man using hand creme - yeah right.

Funny white people, for years, college coaching, college A.D.’s, local and national sportstalk radio shows ben mostly white men. 95% of them never played the game or if they did play, they were average at best. All the hate coming to the Stews because of two white men calling each other racist. 116 Division 1 schools and 3 African-American coaches, now tell me who’s racist. I hear all talkshows spit the republican ideology(haven’t we learn from bush), use suttle racist comments and yet call the 2 live stews racist. I listen to both stations on a daily basis and they both have a lot of short commings. With the exception of Finneran there is not a single host on the Rude Awakening/680 that has a clue about sports. On the other hand Mayhem/790 was much better when it was Bell, Chellini, and Dimino (I don’t care much for Steak). I like Cowherd on 680 but I prefered the Monsters with Chernoff and Chuck Oliver (I don’t like Brandon and Woverlton as much). 680 could take a page from 790 as far as having more local host on during the 1-3pm slot. I usually go with Buck and Kincaide for the drive home because I am more likley to hear UGA, Braves, and Falcons talk. I have tried several times to listen to the 2 live stews because they can be very funny, but I hate to admitt I don’t feel like they appeal to a 32 year old white male who likes college sports more than pro sports. 790 really needs to do something about their signal strength because I find that I will go with 680 more often because I can pick them up as far south as Macon and even when I drive over into South Carolina. 680 really nneds to improve the morning show host, go local during the day, and add a little more comedy like 790. Zone you really should bring back Chernoff and the previous lineup, and beef up your signal strength. With all that being said they are both better than the sad excuse for sports talk that is 960 the ref in Athens where I live. Outside of UGA talk they are worthless.

Urban means that Cobb County can’t pick up the Tech games after midnight. I listen to 680 only because it is the only station I can pick up 24 hours a day in my car. I wish Georgia Tech would pick a station where we could hear the games at night. I end up listening to WSB and Georgia or the Auburn games on 680 because I can’t get that 8 volt battery station 790. Lets go back to WGST which was started for Tech.

For anyone that has done business in this town buying advertising, you know that what Steak said about being the better promotional idea machine is right on. I have spent millions in this market in all mediums, and far and away, ratings aside, 790 The Zone is the station that always innovates and delivers as well as executes promotions and added value better than anyone. There is a reason that in the sports game the ratings dont mean squat. Their core targets are consistently undersampled and overweighted and what 35 year old will keep an accurate Arbitron diary? I can safely say that 680 has NEVER brought one good idea to the table when I was buying radio, and that 790 found ways to get on buys they didnt deserve to get on because of theirs. My guess is that 790 won because they had great ideas and a plan that made sense, and 680 said, but we are the voice of the Thrashers.

I listen to both stations. Even though I am a Tech fan, I have typically preferred Buck & Kincaid over The Stews. I really did try to listen to Doug & Ryan just to support the Tech man. I just have had a hard time with all of the “urban” dialect.
It is difficult for me to understand sometimes. Roswell Ed pretty much nailed the typical transcript earlier. Except I believe the correct words would be “Aw Rite! Aw Rite! Aw Rite!”
I have also listened enough to The Stews to detect a prejudice in their show. I prefer not to use the “R-word,” but there is definitely a strong prejudice. And it is almost always concerning how the “urban” man was slighted, disrespected, cheated, left out, not given a chance, or just plain better, or if Vick were “suburban” he would have only gotten a few months or nothing at all.
Another favorite topic is how “urban” athletes are never given the chance to run programs, be head coaches, etc. A recent show was spun a bit different though. It centered around how long it has been since there was a “Suburban” 1,000 yard rusher in the NFL. I think they took a definite delight in talking about that one.
Let’s face it we all have some level of bias. I was bias toward The Stews to begin with because of Ryan’s college ties. It has just turned out that I really can’t handle all the “dawgs & poodle stuff” and the tilt toward their obvious target audience. Everything that possibly can have a racial slant does on 2Live.
If the NHL is trying to reach out to that “urban” segment that is typically not an NHL fan, then they chose the right station with which to expand their fan base. Perhaps a topic for 2Live would be who was the last “urban” 50 goal scorer in a season? Or prehaps who will be the first? Sorry I digress. Now I am sounding like a “suburban” version of the Stews.
Two more points: 1) I think it is a stretch to consider 790 an “urban” station as sports fans do typically cross racial demographics. They have actually made it a point to reach out to that demographic perhaps sacrificing some of their “suburban” listeners.
2)790’s signal strength renders it an “urban” station after sundown. So I have to turn to South 107, definitely not an “urban” station, to get broadcast of Tech games.

Thank goodness there is an alternative in 790, although 790 is very, very, far from being a great sports station (on the morning show it appears that they are more interested in what Tom Brady had for dinner or how great a city Boston is than what’s going on in Atl Sports). I will not return to 680 (as long as Kincade is around) which is sad because I hate to miss Bulldog Buck’s UGA insight.

The 2 Live Stews not only beat out Puke & KinKlueless, but they consistently have better sports guests….could be that their “urbaness” is more attractive to the sports stars than those good ole boys at 680 the Klan…perhaps. Seriously, the NHL had a choice and went with the station whose audience is more reflective of the city in which the all-star game will be played.

Kincade is an arrogant know-it-all, but he is right here. The term “urban” is not a racist term. It’s used in marketing all the time. I have listened to kincade for freaking years and have not heard him come out with a racist comment. He tells it like it is even if he is wrong, he tells it like he sees it.
What he said about 790thezone is dead on.
Regarding Steak. I used to listen to his morning show. I now listen to rivals radio because I got sick of his station’s idea of sports talk radio which is less sports and more junk. I got sick of the jew jokes (I am not a jew, but I don’t think it’s funny to make jokes promoting stereotypes) and got sick of the entire format where sports took a back seat to what the ate the night before. I also don’t care for some of the racist comments that come from the stews. I have heard enough white jokes from chris rock to last a lifetime. I don’t need it from my sportstalk radio show. Also if I need a hollywood report I can get that elsewhere.
The whole mike vick thing turned me off from the stews. I would sometimes dabble, but when I heard them get callers on who were balling their eyes out saying how much of a shame it is that a young black man was being attacked and how he is being framed for this and the stews agreed with the callers I was done with it. If I can’t listen to a show that keeps it real and that doesn’t talk about sports. It’s like listening to dr. laura (I don’t by the way) and she discusses her bowel movements or what movie she hates when people call in for help. Her format isn’t that and the stews format needs to change to sports.

Many people posted that others don’t know the definition of racism. So here it is:

So does Kincaid discusses black athlete in different manner then he does white athletes, thus implying white athletes are superior to others? Yes, a good example is when he went on to say that Leftwich is nowhere as good as Harrington once they signed Harrtington. Another example is when he said 680 is better than 790 because 680 does not cater to the urban market. This implies superiority.
Does he sound extremely intolerant towards black athletes. Listen to him for 5 minutes, and you will hear nothing but intolorence.
But the jury is still out on this. He may not be racist, but he sounds like a racist on the radio.

I know who you people are calling Kincade a racist. You are those same morons calling the station up as soon as he even mentions a black person doing something negative. For instance, he was quoting from a Sports Illustrated issue talking about Miami coach Randy Shannon saying “I care more about coaching Miami football than I do about raising my kids” of which he has 4 kids by 3 different women. Of course some moron calls up accusing him of being racist when he was talking about his lack of responsibility. What would justify being racist is if he said something in the way of “he has all those kids outside of marriage like almost all black people do.”
Most black people in Atlanta just don’t like white people saying anything about black people, and they still can’t get out of that mindset that every white person is either racist or is out to destroy the black race.
BTW, I’m a black man and I much more prefer Buck and Kincaide over the 2 Live Vick-Supporting, can’t go through an entire show without something having to do with race, loud-mouthed jerks, Stews.

Steak needs ratings. Kincade handled it like a professional. John points out mistakes made by all races, as well as the positives. I’ve listened to both stations for years now but over the last few months I only turn The Zone on when 680 plays hockey. Kincade is not by any stretch a racist. Some people have to see color in everything. How about when he dogs Brett Favre, Tom Glavine, Arthur Blank, then supports class guys like Warrick Dunn, Tony Dungy, Ovie Mughellie. John dogs ALL the boneheads and supports ALL the good guys. Don’t see color in everything because most of us dont. Steak just needs the ratings. By the way I like the Buck and Kincade show, but the Rude awakening in the morning with Chris and Perry and Finn is an absolute hoot!

This is one of the funniest things I have seen in many years. How can anyone who is a “sports” fan listen to the trash on either of these stations. I know, it’s all we have….
The morning idiots on the ZONE need to go back home. We don’t care about your snob friends or who you had dinner with last night or how much you blew in Vegas. The morning fools on the FAN should just tell us that entertainment and not sports are their reason for be on the air and we can look somewhere else. The late morning- early afternoon guys on these stations are a pick between National station and 2 brothers, really, who are trying to have fun in the neighborhood. Then afternoon choices are as bad as the morning. The ZONE has 2 guys trying to talk sports with 1 idiot that just wants to see how many shenanigans he can slip in while the FAN has another NE blowhard and a moron. Whoever chooses the on-air “talent” for these stations needs to actually listen to what spews from the airwaves and ask yourself if this is the best we can do….. Of course the number of commercials also makes listening to sports “talk” a real challenge in this market. There is no doubt they are driven by the almighty dollar and not by the talent of thier personalities or the compelling discussions started on thier station. If you want to hire comedians and a pompous ass or 2, that’s OK. Just don’t call yourself a SPORTS station when you barely find time to talk sports. Maybe you could call Connecticut School of Broadcasting and see if they have any well trained students you can hire to replace these clowns.

After listeningng to Kincaid for a week one of my co -workers called him the “Joan Rivers” of sports talk. Cheap shots —- (during one segment years ago on a totally unrelated topic brought up hooked on phonics like a Patrick Ewing interview)—- sarcastic remarks, etc. A negative news article about an athelete is a guarantee Kincaid remark —- said we can draft McFadden out of Arkanasa and hire someone to keep him out of trouble. Reminds you of the relative or friend who specializes in zeroing in on personal flaws or mistakes and NEVER lets you forget it.

Kincaide is very racist…..however, I think that’s the goal of 680…to actually be as racist as possible, thereby picking up the niche market for the closet Klansmen that simply hate the A-T-L. You only have to listen for just a little while to the morning or afternoon drive shows to figure that out.

What’s funny about this whole thread is the use of language:
Calling Kincade “Klancade”, KKlankaide” etc isn’t being racist itself?
John Kincade was one of the few people who defended Michael Vick EVERY day on his show until MV lied to the Falcons, and the nation. Now that Kincade calls MV a “Dog Killer” makes him racist??? Riiiight….
On the other hand you have the 2 Live Stews, who blame everything on race. For 3 months they tried to tell the world “Our sources say Michael Vick is innocent, and will be proven innocent. This is all about race….”
When Michael Vick finally admitted what he was doing, did the 2 Live Stews admit they were wrong?? Oh no, instead they still blame race on why Michael Vick is where he is.
The Stews make half their subjects about race, bashing the president, etc.
Oh but that’s right, in this PC world we live in they are the true definition of “Reverse discrimination.”
If it’s not your fault, blame it on someone else.
I listen to Sports Talk Radio to talk about SPORTS! I could care less what’s going on in music, or who should be the next president, etc. If I wanted to hear about that I’d listen to Star 94 or AM 750.

Hey Pete I’ve interned at 790 as well . The Stews and Hometeam are great. You have to be a LOSER not to have a great time there. Urban has a connotation whether you like it or not. 790 is more reflective of the city’s make up and more entertaining to listen to. 680 is all white and does not represent the city at all. When I look at the Ga Dome on Sundays, or Phillips arena, they are not all white!

I have been an ATL sports talk fan since around 94 or so when we had the original 680. I’ve seen alot of folks come and go. I’ve move away and moved back home. We have two of the best stations in the nation, if you ask me. 790 is my favorite, but I switch during commercials to hear what the other guy has to say. The problem with 680 is that you can put them in Philli, NY, Boston or LA and get the same thing. 790 switches it up, takes chances, and tries to talk about what the people want to talk about. 680 is a conservative station, which fits for a conservative state. But, there are folks like me that want to be entertained and hear about sports. I don’t think 790 is an urban station. I think they are smart for looking at the demographic of the city to figure out who the clientle is.

HUH????? I read this and I think perhaps Stake is the one who is being racist here. Why is he so offended at being called a black station? What is so derogetory in that characterization?
Stake obviously thinks being called “urban” means “black” and consequently, “black” is negative. So if he is the #1 station in the market, and his is the “black” station, is he a failure?
Stake, you need to clarify your position on why you hate being called black, and obviously why you don’t want to be lumped in with us.

The Two Stewed Brothers (Shuck & Jive) have been a hit because they have brought something different to the market, but it isn’t good radio. Yelling crap still makes it crap. 790 has far better hosts when they aren’t shooting themselves in the foot. Ranting on about some inane topic no one cares about instead of talking sports. Half of the personalities have ADHD. Watch Steak on the CSS show on cable in the morning, shaking his leg. With the best commentators in the region all they can do is rag on Chuck Oliver or whoever is handy instead of saying something lucid. Those of us who have endured this for years waiting for columnists like Len Pasquarelli, etc to come on and make sense of it all are finally letting go. Putting up with the crap to get a few minutes of sports talk isn’t worth it anymore. The ratings show it. On top of all that. Chris Dimino admits on the air he hit his daughter at an event because she left her mother who should have been watching closer and ran to him in a crowded room. Scared as that may have made him, hitting her was not the answer. The Mayhem crew made it sound like no big deal. If he had hit his wife instead of the daughter, it would have been. But because his daughter is a minor and defenseless he gets to be macho. A lot of us who respect and cherish our children have lost respect for Dimino…..

It appears to me that someone at The Fan blew an opportunity months ago to lock up this NHL All-Star weekend. Both of these stations have paid marketing and promotions executives and The Fan “WHIFFED”. Tough grits. As for the “urban” reference-it is a racist buzzword. Sports is sports and The Fan could use some “Flavor” since it’s about buzzwords. I love Mike Tirico in the afternoon. I would love to hear some local TALENT. Even if it’s just weekends.
