5/2: Wachs quotes on Southside
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Regular Guys called me this morning so co-host Larry Wachs could complain that my story on “Southside” Steve didn’t include a quote from him but had one from Eric Von Haessler.
So here’s what Larry had to say about why Southside does so many appearances, some of it serious, some of it facetious:
I think he’s deeply in debt and he needs the money. [Seriously,] I think he’s a very hard working man. His breezy attitude and devil-may-care lifestyle is a false front of a very deeply committed individual who entertains Atlanta. Steve is the ambassador of goodwill.
*Actually, it takes money off our plates. He hogs the spotlight. We’re a little jealous. If I’m nice, he’ll give me some crumbs.”
There’s little difference between Southside Steve and Hugh Hefner. All differences are cosmetic.
I don’t see him ever slowing down. If he slows down, he’ll be fired.

SSS is exactly what the Regular Guys version 4.0 (Remember - they were fired in LA first) should be. I’ve had the misfortune of traveling and listening to syndicated national morning shows and they all suck. I’m so glad theses boys are back - i just hope they can be here for a good long while this time.

-Big Fan. You are chronologically/numerically correct - but TRG refer to the current show as TRG 3.0 http://regularguys.typepad.com/theregularguys_show/2008/01/30.html

Steve is a good guy, and has had the same worth ethic since he came to WKLS as an intern back in 1994. He very quickly became known as “the guy who would do anything.”
I’m sure he learned much of what he knows about how to take care of a client and run a successful remote or promotion from the guy who I think did it better than anyone else, Willard Arbor. The fact that Willard is not still on the air somewhere in Atlanta is a real shame.

Southside Steve rules. Version 2.0 sucked b/c he wasnt there. Version 3.0 isnt where 1.0 was, but its getting close. Thank god Virgin Murray is gone too. No more interviews with Kermit the Frog..

Southside Steve is the highlight of the show. Wachs shows jealousy toward him like he did Norma. hell how would he knows anything about Steve financial static.

@JTD
The BLOG is called Radio Talk. Rodney write about radio events that may be of interest to his readers. No one made you click on the article.
Since this article, Rodney has written another article about the latest Arbitron ratings. TRG are mentioned in that too, as are a lot of the stations & show in town.
If you like radio but don’t like TRG, you can always listen to IMUS,
or V103
or Bert
or News radio
0r 97.1 - The Monotony
or any of the other radio shows available in town
or XM/Sirius
or your IPOD.

@ Bob…
“Rodney write about radio events…”
“as are a lot of the stations & show in town.”
Good grammer. ‘nuff said.

I am in agreement with JTD. I enjoy this blog but Rodney writes way too much about the regular guys. Maybe because they are good buddies with him or something. I mean look at the title of this blog entry “Wachs quotes on Southside”. Wow. A quote from someone about someone else. Like I said, I like this blog but try and keep it non-partisan.
