Project Runway: An Olympic Challenge
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The high: Jerell made a hat. Seriously, it takes gumption to attempt a hat. And Olympians often wear hats in the opening ceremonies.
The low: Are designers so sensitive that they can’t bear to hear other people laugh and be happy? Lay off Kenley and Blayne already.
EVERY FOUR YEARS, some fashionable types must shy away from the two weeks of nonstop sports coverage and bury their noses in Vogue. Because it’s clear none of these designers have ever seen an Olympics opening ceremony. To wit:

Korto (above, left) — too plain, where’s the verve? Plus, wouldn’t the crisp white fabric get grimy in overly polluted Beijing? Cute but not practical. And yet she won!
Joe — Sorry, an asymmetrical skort is not what I think of when I envision 6-foot-tall volleyball players. This sportswear look reminded me of the Romanian gymnastics team circa 1976. (Good times, though. Thanks for the memories.)
Stella — Suffers from the same malady that got Jennifer auf’d — an inability to separate her own aesthetic (in this case, old rocker) from the challenge at hand.
Suede, Jennifer, Keith — Poufy skirts do not say “champion athlete.” Pants were the way to go.
And on and on. Again, Terri’s design (above, right) was clever and versatile. But is it just me - that’s twice in a row that the judges heaped praise on Terri and then denied her the win. Cruel, cruel Heidi.
Meantime, on the petty side, Joe called out the “queens,” yet he was the one who made a fuss about what amounted to a saved seat. The drama never seems to escalate on “Project Runway,” probably because everyone’s too tired to get into it.

I don’t understand why they didn’t evaluate Terri’s outfit further—I was really confused by what appeared to be the model’s bare breasts above the striped part of the top!

Who really cares about the Olympics this year in China? I mean it’s China, land of oppression and dog eaters. After hearing that the Beijing officials ordered 126 local filth-infested places they call resturants to remove dog from their menu’s, I knew there was not way I would watch one second of the Olympics taking part in this Third World dog eating country. I hope it’s a financial flop and a ratings nightmare for NBC and they all lose billions of dollars. In other words…&*^%$ anything that has anything to do with the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Ok. I don’t watch or care about the olympics, but Sarah, is China really a “third world country”? Are you serious? To other commenters: If you don’t like Project Runway why did you feel the need to come to this blog when there are SO many others available and open for commenting?

If you want to see another land of oppression— I suggest looking in your own back yard.

Wow. Have you ever been to China? A lot of it is gorgeous and steeped in history. They have a very different lifestyle than we do, but that doesn’t exactly make them a third world country. I am not say that I agree with what they do but I am still going to watch the Olympics and enjoy every minute of it, because what they do in China has zero to do with our amazing athletes that work their entire life for this opportunity.

To eyeslee, China is Third World, you idiot. Does someone log on to the computer for you, you can’t possibly navigate a computer on your own, there’s no way. Are you a guy, if so…go to Walmart and buy you a Made in China Y chromosome.

Realist, are you joking? You can sit that on your smelly rear end in your little Bush hating fashion and compare the freedoms you’re afforded to those of the people in China. You are stupid beyond words, an obvious Obama supporter. Can you vote and choose your leaders? Can you protest without being shot? Did the government order you to kill your female babies for over a decade. Are you regulated by your government as to how many kids you can have. Realist, you stupid dimwitted twit, I hope in your lifetime you experience real oppression.

China might be a lot of things (communist, repressive, sexist), but I don’t know if you can really call it a true “third world” country anymore. Sarah, I hope you are not as angry as your posted comment seems to come across. Also I am a woman.

One day I was in an China-bashing chat room and a “Project Runway” debate broke out! LOL. Joe’s skort may have been a bit off-kilter, but it was the only one that I could truly envision athletes walking around the track with. Good stuff. But his drama over the drama was, well, too dramatic. He might wanna chill on that. I’m happy for Korto, but surprised she won. I thought hers was a bit tame. And Stella came THIS CLOSE to pulling off her rock n roll outfit! Fell short again. She’s not long for this competition. I can see the cream rising to top now, but won’t name names till next week.

Weelll, realistically speaking, China is still considered a third world country and neither Sarah nor you, eyeslee, get to make the call. Those type of socio-political titles come from a much loftier place than the Project Runway blog. Oh, and eyeslee, the things you say China could be called (communist, repressive, sexist) do all fold into the larger picture of why it’s still a third world country. Keep reading those books, your on the right track.

Gosh, I hope a PR debate breaks out…let’s move the China discussions elsewhere please.
I did like Joe’s outfit, even with the off-kilter skort. But what was up with Terri’s top? It looked like it was way too tight and was cutting into the models chest? Other than that I really liked her jacket. Her jacket with Korto’s pants would have made a much better overall look.
While I appreciate Stella’s biker chick esthetic, her outfit was downright scary!
Finally, will someone tell Suede to get over Suede? He made practically the same dress as he did in the green challenge. I hope he doesn’t get stuck in the “one look” rut.
Oh one more thing…what was up with Blayne’s “I’m gonna eat you” stare down last week? Talk about scary!!! That boy has problems….

I agree that the skort was the only reasonable outfit here. While I liked Terri’s outfit for myself (minus the visible boobage), I can’t imagine most muscular female athletes squeezing comfortably into the jacket…and with any muscular bulk on top at all, that scarf (or whatever it is) would look ridiculous. The winning outfit would flatter a muscular build, I think, and the cut was cool, but it was visually—color-wise—really boring. All that said, I found this round of judging to be the most realistic and fair so far. And I was kind of shocked how well Stella’s piece turned out, considering…

REALITY SHOW PET PEEVE: Giving the most screentime to the most obnoxious, histrionic, air-time w**.
In this case Suede, Joey Ramone lady, and Tanorexia. It rewards them doubly for over-acting since they are clearly kept in competition longer than they deserve for the sake of “entertainment” value.
