Project Runway: If they only made 44D!

The high: Drag queen — Acid Betty? — offers to crack a rib to fit into her designer’s bodice.

The low: Poor tear-stained Daniel. You knew it was coming, though.

We are very pleased. We actually knew one of the drag queens in question! How … um … dragalicious?

varla.jpg

I know, I know, last week I implied that a drag queen challenge could be demeaning and stereotypical, but I sort of changed my mind when I recognized Varla Jean Merman (right), frequent performer in my hometown of New Orleans. Go Varla Jean! And to think that no-frills, uber-bland Joe Faris would win the drag challenge with Varla Jean. Go figure.

Random thoughts from Wednesday’s episode:

• It never ceases to amaze me how clever editing can fool you into thinking that all four judges magically agree on everything. Will we ever see some real dissent?

• Terri is starting to look right vexed every week as she racks up accolades but never pulls off the win. Her drag outfit was the absolute hot tranny mess, and in an excellent David Bowie/Hedwig sort of way, too.

• Homegrown celeb RuPaul is looking thin. You taking vitamins, Ru?

• Every week Kenley talks about “old Hollywood glamour” like a light bulb has gone off over her head. She’s talented, but she thinks she’s also innovative, which is funny.

The last word: If you think your own design talents deserve recognition, put ‘em to the test. High school seniors, The Art Institute of Atlanta wants your bright fashion-design and fashion-marketing ideas, before Nov. 21, to win a scholarship and a trip to New York City for Fashion Week. Details: www.artinstitutes.edu/atlanta. For over-21s, Ecco Domani (yes, the winemaker) has a fashion foundation and is accepting applications through Oct. 3 for its grant program. Zac Posen was one of Ecco Domani’s winners, and you can be, too. Details: Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation.

Go on now, make it work.

This show confuses me. Drag queens? Where the heck is my Quaker Oatmeal? Where are my testing supplies? Where is the remote control?

I think this was the best show so far this season. I think the judges got the winner right this time. Now when are they going to let Keith the material puzzle maker go!!!

I don’t understand the appeal of this show. I wish Rodney would create a separate blog for this show so we don’t have to read a post every other day about it.

When are they going to dress men? Nothing new in that department for awhile…I’d like to see skirts.

This week’s Queen Show was fun, flirty and silly but did present a serious design problem: making a man look like very specific type of woman and having her feel really great about it. Clearly, the designers were out of their comfort zone and this was a true test of being able to step outside themselves. I’m happy Joe won…he seems to be able consistently identify the problem and respond. Daniel just couldn’t get past Daniel, and that never works for anyone.

Hey, I know some of you guys hate Project Runway, but this is where it lives on Thursday mornings — not every other day. And the season lasts until mid-October, so we’re in for the long haul. But don’t worry, we’re friendly neighbors.

I just love this show!!!! I get to see my beloved NY on wednesday nights. I enjoy seeing some really good new designers being made. The garment district is a tough market but if you have the drive and desire to be a designer New york is the place to be. I worked in the garment district for quite a few years and have seen a lot of wacky fashions but on Project Runway the designs are truly inspirational and trendy. Now if only Atlanta can offer the same opportunities that are being offered in NY, ATL will be on its way… But wait ATL is 20years behind any real fashion direction. Go NYC….

I don’t watch Project Runway. I’m just glad to see someone posting entries who can write better than Rodney Ho.

I just can’t believe that Suede’s talking in the first person. Loved his client’s b*tchy, funny remarks.

You KNOW Joe’s friends are making video clips of him dancing with those boobs on for the office and Christmas cards.

I think Koto seriously owes Chris March for his suggestion to make the skirt detachable.Plus, he deserves the win, especially compared to Teri’s incredible hot mess. He doesn’t seem to have a persona, just confusion in how to dress himself. Joe’s outfit actually approached classy, exspecially compared to Blayne, who’s so oblivious he can’t the difference between a compliment and a dig.

I won’t even try to justify my enjoyment of PR by stating that I watch it with my wife, and we enjoy watching creative people be creative. Instead, I’ll tell you the truth - I have a huge crush on Kenley.

The retro-pinup look may be on the way to a cliche, but she’s farkin’ adorable with that look. Every time she’s on the screen, my living room gets a little brighter.

Yeah - sigh - I love Kenley.

InLove, you have competition, because my husband loves Kenley too! ;)

Kenly would be a lot hotter if she didn’t act so unjustifiably superior to everyone. This might be the most balanced “cast” yet. I think there are frontrunners, but no one stands out yet as the dominant designer or with a dominant POV. Interesting. I’ve got Keith, Kenly, Suede and a toss-up between Korto and Terri as my final three/four. But Keith has shown he can stink as easily as he can shine. Same with Kenly. Blayne is so next up, although if LeeAnne pulls her shrinking-violet routine she could be next too. Joe will fade as soon as his mediocrity meets the wrong challenge. P.S. Korto’s hotter!

What are these people talking about. Fashion to me is a pair of blue jeans and a can of beer maybe a pair of my Elton John sunglasses with peacock features coming out the joints and on real occasions a high collar with a touch of make up.

Can’t we just replace the Metro, Sports and Business sections with the Project Runway section???? Huh, can’t we????

i was dreading this week’s episode, but it turned out to be one of the best. Where can I buy a knock-off of Varla Jean’s outfit for Mardi Gras?

My wife just accused me of writing InLove’s comment.

Indeed, Kenley’s laugh could disarm me enough to hand it all over… anything.

I am enjoying this show too, but who is the ice queen b*tch who ‘modelrates’ it? She is so cold when she states, “One day you are in and the next day, you are out”. I personally prefer to live and let live and say go for your own style and to heck with those who differ, lol. And yeah, Kenley is so affected wtih her flower in her hair, but she is certainly NOT a flower child of my age, lol.
