9/9: Moby gets bitten by a snake

moby-bite-me.jpg

Country DJ Moby over the years has been in a motorcyle accident and bitten (literally) by a lion. Now he’s landed in a North Fulton hospital for a snakebite.

The “yeah baby!” host now heard on South 107, WNGC-FM and 92.5/The Bear thought it was wise Monday to try to catch a copperhead snake in his driveway. He did nab it but it also nipped him on the right hand forefinger, forcing him to get anti-venom treatment. “It big time swelled up,” he told me today, while still in the hospital. “It turned red and black and flesh sloughed off around the wound. It’s nastly!”

Moby was at Kicks from the early 1990s until 2002. He has been running his own syndicated radio operation the past two years and is on more than 10 stations.

Good news: Moby, whose real name is James Carney, may have lost a bit of his dignity but won’t lose his finger.

Damn Moby what in the world were you thinking. You’re supposed to whack the s**t out of them critters when you see um. That’s the southern way. Now you just lay there in that hospital bed and think about what you did. Hope you get back on your feet soon pal, I try to listen to you every morning and here my good friend David Staton sing “Moby in the morning”

Good sense has never been one of Moby’s strong suits. I’m not surprised that he tried to pick up a copperhead. Let’s hear it for the snake!

Moby, that was just plain dumb. When I walked up on a 5 ft. rattlesnake at my hunting lease last Saturday I shot it with my pistol about eight times….I didn’t try to catch it. The snake had a real bad day and I didn’t get bit (true story).

You’d have thought that the snake would have NOT bit Moby just out of professional courtesy.

this is one of those too bizzare to have been made up stories:

back in ‘02 my wife had a coworker who got bit by a baby copperhead IN HER GARAGE! she didn’t know it was there (i.e. no stupidity involved in her case) and apparently reflexively kicked as it bit her flinging it across the garage where it landed IN A BUCKET (nice & caught for ER trip)! one of those things you couldn’t do on purpose in a thousand tries. her foot & lower leg swelled up but she seemed fine when I saw her a couple of month later…

hope Moby’s better soon!

Moby, you certainly have lived long enough to know better than to pick up a copperhead. Remember, 3 strikes and you are OUT! Get my drift? Getting older is suppose to mean getting smarter.

Hey Moby! I admit that I haven’t always been your biggest fan in the Atlanta DJ wars…but you won my heart when you moved to South 107. My family & I listen to you every day, and our day just isn’t the same without you! Many prayers for a speedy recovery, my friend. And please, leave the snakes alone!!!! YEAH BABY! Mel

Greetings from Houston, your old hometown. I knew you when you were on KLOL and I was a neophyte jock with heavy metal competitor Z-Rock. Unlike other KLOL jocks you were always friendly and respectful to me. Thanks.

Hey, if you’re feeling under the weather due to this snakebite why don’t you stop back by Houston this weekend. We’re having a blowout! It’s called Hurricane Ike!

Peace & Love, Stan Scam

dear moby, missed you monday..heard about the snake bite. i know you have probably had your fill of snake bite comments, but i can’t help but put my two cents worth in. i’ve been a nurse for 16 years, and have taken care of many, many snake bite victims; all of which, except one, have been men…and all of those men had two things in common…they picked up a snake and they got bit(ironically, every one of these men were bitten by venomous snakes). my only female snake bite patient was an elderly lady who was working in her flower garden, reached in to pull some weeds and got bit…by a green snake…go figure. keep that hand elevated and have a good day. yeah baby

hey Moby, I’ve read all the comments on you and your snake bite, and i seen the ugly little creature. all i will say is i am glad u are ok, and i hope you learned from it (ha). i listen to you every morning at work, pretty much your whole show. i call my Mom every morning to check on her and when she answers the phone she says, “it’s me and Moby” which always makes me laugh. keep up what u are doing for us all. YEAH BABY
