Project Runway: A little bit country, a little bit rock n roll
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The high: L’il “Lee” J. Blige’s fashion rap
The low: It’s hard to see Suede auf’d when he looks that much like Ziggy Stardust.
Tonight I can’t even be bothered with ragging on Kenley, folks. Even though I thought she should lose.
More importantly, WHAT was going on on top
of Leanne’s head (right, courtesy of Bravo TV)? That was the oddest updo I’ve ever seen outside of “Masterpiece Theatre.”
The relationship between popular music and fashion always feels false and appropriated — taking something from the street and turning it into a couture enterprise — but it touches a nerve with me too, as those were the first fashion choices I exercised. I’m saddened to report that in the 1980s I used British musicians as my style influences. Adam Ant’s music may sound like noisy, drum-driven dreck today, but his pirate chic captivated me. Same with Bananarama’s overalls and tousled moppet hair. Oh, the memories!
That sense of nostalgia made tonight’s “Project Runway” challenge more fun than a flock of seagulls.
The winner: Korto, with her artfully distressed men’s jeans. Jerell’s pop design looked stage-ready; Suede’s rocker look was, in fact, subdued for Jerell; Kenley’s ode to hip-hop looked like a sidewalk sale on stilettoes. Yikes!
Meantime, and this is a seemingly minor point that speaks loudly, but I was just tickled that Leanne chose to accentuate Korto’s zaftig figure with a super curvy skirt. (A typical “country music” outfit might look more like a Sweetheart of the Rodeo — ruffled prairie skirt that successfully hides the hips and the tuckus.) Leanne wasn’t afraid of a plus-size challenge, as “Runway” designers usually are. Score one for the real woman.
The last word: In another ‘80s throwback, it looked like Suede was wearing black jelly bracelets. (“Borderline ”)

It may be because of editing but it drives me nuts when Kenley laughs when others are given negative feed back. Ihope she goes next

Faith won’t rag on Kenley, but I will. That outfit was not only way off the mark for hip-hop, but it was just a plain mess. All I can say is that the producers must have told the judges to keep her on another week for dramatic tension … or comic relief. I don’t know which.
Suede committed the ultimate sin of understating a rocker outfit. That is pretty bad, but I can’t help but think he was auf’d for cumulative appearances in the bottom three more than for what he presented tonight.
Leanne sort of had an off night but I expect her to be around for the finale.
Korto and Jerrell both hit the challenge target dead center. Korto put a lot of thoughtful, detailed design and just plain hard work into her winning punk number. Jerrell did an amazing conversion of Kenley into a brunette Brittney. Both deserved to win, but only one could. Both should be there for Bryant Park.

I was disappointed to see Kenley stay last night. Her outfit was horrible and looked cheap. She disregarded Tim’s advice because she didn’t want to make Leanne look stupid but that’s exactly what she ended up doing. I was embarassed for Leanne having to wear that. Not only was it not hip hop, it was very unflattering to her figure.
Suede looked fantastic in the punk outfit Korto made. She was concerned about having to make menswear but her execution was flawless.
Side Note: Why do people bother to post comments like “yawn”? If you find this topic so boring don’t read about it! Also, if you have nothing interesting or intelligent to contribute to a conversation you should remain silent. No one wants to hear from you.

I know just about everyone hates Kenley…but I just have to acknowledge how hot she looked!!
Jerrel rocks!…talk about a transformation.
That runway melted when Kenley slithered down it.

I’m so over Kenley. Her failure to take criticism in the work room and the runway is beyond irritating. I thought she was out, especially with that outfit. Korto always impresses me so I was glad she won the challenge.
Ed is sad that Suede is gone. Ed will continue to watch with gusto. Ed plans to stop talking in the third person now.

Kenley did look hot dressed up as Kenley Spears! Also, in the brief seconds you saw her without makeup, I thought she looked great. I like the retro red lipstick and all, but natural is good, too.

The show jumped the shark for me last night. Suede did not deserve to go based on the rocker outfit, which, though subdued, looked really hot on J. And, more importantly, it stayed true to the theme of rock. Kenley’s not only looked awful; it wasn’t hip-hop. I won’t be nearly as excited to watch for the rest of the season.

I would love to see Korto and Jerell make it to the finals. Kenly, just is rude and hateful. The is always laughing at other people’s designs and comments, yet when it’s her turn on the chopping block, she has to be defensive. I don’t think that she deserves to go anywhere but HOME. Korto’s design was right on as well as Jerell. I think that Leann could have tried a little bit harder, it was hard for her because Korto has a some junk in the trunk and the skirt was a little unflattering. It was plain and boring. Kenly totally missed the mark with Leann, and you could tell that she was uncomfortable in her outfit. My hope is that Korto wins it in the end.

Was it me or was Jerell’s bulge showing in his pants? Maybe I was looking to hard…ok..not the best choice of words there, but I think I did notice it and the cameras just kept focusing down there. I guess if they can place emphasis on Korto’s back package then they have the right to focus on Jerrell’s front package..LOL

Guess what Korto did to be the winner? She listened to Tim Gunn!
If the producers and I know it is them allow Kenley to survive and even win. I think I’ll be more angry than when Jeffrey won. At least he didn’t sass Tim or the judges to my recollection.

We all knew it would come to this, though, didn’t we? Yes, Suede’s departure was a cumulative effect. But then, as hideous as Kenley’s was, and off the mark, she was more, well, daring for lack of a better word. There was more going on. Suede’s looked like it had virtually no effort. Still, he’d grown on me, talent or not. I was so sad to see him go when Kenley had hit rock bottom, personality-wise. And how cool was it to see Korto shoosh her away when Kenley tried to interrupt her meeting with Leeanne? You can tell this group has SO much fun with one another when Kenley’s not involved — as in, healthy competition for a change! It’s between Kenley and … hmmm, I’ll go with Jerell for the third slot. As much as he’s come on strong, he’s still the most vulnerable after Kenley. That said, go Jerell, for Kenley must go! (Hot or not.)
