10/22: Real Housewives of Atlanta, episode three recap

Okay, I’m blatantly pandering by writing these highlight recaps of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” But, hey, the antics of these five women are indeed great watercooler fodder. And this is from a guy who writes about “American Idol” every day, even off season.
ABOVE: NeNe reads the letter claiming her daddy isn’t her daddy!
So here we go:
The focus of this episode is split fairly evenly among three of the housewives, but the most compelling story for once did not revolve around some party. Kim Zolciak went to her psychic Rose (with the skeptical fellow housewives in tow) and while most of them bowed out, NeNe Leakes decided to get a reading. The psychic, who looks like Your Average Sweet Lookin’ Grandma, said NeNe will get an important letter and something related to her dad would occur.
Indeed, a letter from a relative claims the man she thinks is her dad (Curtis) is… not! It’s someone else! NeNe is shaken, understandably. She visits the aunt who raised her in Athens, who said it doesn’t matter. But NeNe wants to know and at the end of the episode, she calls Curtis, who she hadn’t spoken to in two years.
Sadly, he doesn’t even recognize her voice. Then when she asked if he had doubts about whether he was really her father. “I had doubts,” he said, “even before you were born. But I just let it go.” Sounds like a winner of a dad!
“It’s just amazing to me that you would let these many years go by and not say a damn word,” NeNe says.
“I consider you my daughter,” he says.
“Don’t you want to know the truth?” NeNe asks.
“It don’t make no difference,” he says.
But NeNe insists they prove it with a DNA test. Curtis is a little taken aback but doesn’t battle her and petulantly says fine.
She is numb. “I thought I’d be real emotional,” she said. “Now that he’s all defensive, ** him.”
Good stuff!
Plotline No. 2: Kim’s attempt to go into country singing.
She says: “I want to be known for my voice, not blonde hair and big boobs per se.”
(Viewers giggle.)
We only heard bits of her singing on the show, not enough to gauge whether she can really sing. Ed, her daughters’ music teacher, gives her some country songs to sample. NeNe is hilarious as she mocks them, then actually gets a kick with his “Tardy for the Party.” Dallas Austin, wearing sunglasses indoors, stops by Kim’s house and tells the cameras away from Kim that she may not realize how much work it’s going to be to be a real singer. He isn’t thrilled by Ed’s songs and though he has no country background, has some ideas and will get her before a big-time vocal coach who has worked with the likes of Usher.

Plotline No. 3: DeShawn Snow wants to ramp up her self-named foundation, which has the squishy notion to build self esteem among inner-city teen-age girls. We see her reading some sort of decree with some random girls. Her goal: raise $1 million in her opening fundraiser. Everyone expresses skepticism, at least off camera. Odds that she’s going to raise $1 million? About the same as the odds that I am Kim’s “Big Poppa”! There’s also a minor “drama” where DeShawn considers having a live auction. She ponders auctioning a date with Sheree Whitfield, who is recently single, but that doesn’t work out, partly because she didn’t ask Sheree directly before Sheree found out. Or whatever. Very high school!
By the way, Sheree claims with her usual certainty there is only one available man in Atlanta for every 20 women. I guess it depends what type of “available” man she’s talking about, meaning a man with enough money and good looks to satisfy her. Perhaps, we’d change the ratio to 100,000 to 1 then?
Teasers show that Kim and NeNe have tensions over Sheree’s burgeoning friendship with Kim. And the DeShawn fundraiser appears to not raise $1 million.
So with three episodes down, are there any housewives you’re liking more — or less — as time goes on?
“Top Chef” finalist and Atlanta chef Richard Blais writes a hilarious blog about the show if you want more laughs.
-Also, former Atlantan Toni Braxton was booted from “Dancing With the Stars.” It wasn’t a surprise at this stage of the competition. Her problem seemed to be multifold. Sure, she’s a solid dancer. But she wasn’t improving or connecting with the audience the way the others were. Her personality and back story wasn’t as compelling as, say, that of Warren Sapp, Lance Bass, Cloris Leachman and Susan Lucci. That’s all.

For them to be so high society, they sure do not speak properly. Instead of “then” you hear “den”, ex.. Sherre says I have more class “den” NeNE. Deshawn’ speach is terrible as well. I sure hope she is saving some money beacuse her husband does not have that much longer to play. I bet in 3-5 years we will hear about these “ladies” being broke.

I watched last night and I think that Kim only “wants” to be a “singer” because Big Poppa has connections. She nedd to focus on that but focus on her children. She should also get a J-O-B!!! I like NeNe, she keeps it real whether good or bad. I don’t care for Shree` because she is never satisfied. She needs to get over herself. She’s not that cute. The ratio of men is more like a million to one. Lisa and DeShawn seem to be the only balanced ones, at so far. If DeShawn wanted to really step up her funding for her foundation she should have planned the auction futher in advanced and not in two weeks. You live and you learn. I can’t wait to see the show next week to see if Curtis is really NeNe’s father.

Personally i think Ne-Ne is the most Real Housewife she keeps it real and she’s my favorite. Now Sheree on the other hand seems to only think about her lifestyle and hopefully her 7 figure divorce settlement she’s going to get. Deshawn seems to be cool & very low key..i’m not mad at her for having reserved seats at her church I’ve always heard if you’re a big tither you get reserved seating. I’ll continue to watch the show to see what happens.

Real Housewives Atlanta is so not real to me.
I believe that these so-called housewives have a false impression of what real life is like in Atlanta, either with a husband, boyfriend, man, cake-daddy, sugar-daddy, boy-toy, what ever.
NeNe you are obviously 40-something and we all fully understand that you want to know who your real daddy is but come on know Curtis stepped up to the plate and took responsibility for you when you were born—regardless of how much doubt he had that you were actually his daughter—why not try counselling to mend the relationship you have with him instead so you can move forward. The letter you received is a done deal and as your Aunt from Athens advised you let it go and move on.
DeShawn let’s get real ain’t no one going to buy diamonds from a fund raiser to help your non-profit raise money for your diamonds in the rough. If I was invited I would not have even considered it.
You reached entirely too high for a fund-raiser, my advise and smart suggestion to you is start with raising 5, 10, 15, or 20 thousand at first then build up from there. doesn’t even look like you have any girls from Atl-Swats participating anyway.
Sheree the man to woman Atlanta ratio is so over-rated, I haven’t felt it yet, and I am dating extremely well to do and often times famous men, you’ll be alright girl. Interview them first don’t get any DL’s-your hairdresser can hip you on what to look out for!!!

PATHETIC: I am speechless! First Deshawn is fake…she almost got me on the first episode but the more and more I listened to her I realize she was just putting on and being fake. Fake in a different arena. She try to act like she Princess Dianne when you can tell that’s not really her.
Then Sheree, I was done with her with her attitude. NOT CUTE! Bad rep. for black women in general and especially here in the ATL. You want to maintain a lifestyle based on your husbands hardwork. What joke. Get a job!!

NE NE- Hood but keep it real and if it wasn’t for your realness I prolly wouldn’t care too much for you. However, I hope you find out who your real Dad is. 40 or 50. It can become a hurtful and debilitating situation not knowing. Wish you the best.

it is very clear that Deshawn is trying to be someone that she is NOT. I thought she would be the opposite of what I depicted the others until the 2nd episode…she fake and depicts it by saying and pretending to be someone that she is not.

I was done with her on episode 1 wither her ATTITUDE ALONE. Not a good representation of ATL women. Then you want to maintain a lifestyle based on your divorce. Please Girl go get a job.

Ne Ne You hood but keep it real. I appreciate your realness at some points but tone it down a bit. I can appreciate the fact that you are not always talking about what you got and yourself. Your husband seem to be humble and I appreciate the fact that he loves you enought to be seen on the show unlike BIG DADDY- WTH!

Last night was the first time I actually saw this show. What a joke! There are only two married women in this show, Lisa and NeNe. Lisa is about the only one trying to work and she portrays a good image. Lisa is a “kept” mistress. Since the mystery man can’t be revealed, its probably some old wealthy man being revived by her. Ms. Whitfield is pathetic – what planet is she on to think her husband can come up with 7 figures? UGH!!! I hope his lawyer is at least putting this show on TiVo to be admitted as evidence later. DeShawn’s attempts at finding something consume her day is nothing but air-headed to say the least. She looks unhappy herself. She should probably gets ome control over those unruly kids before trying to build self-esteem in someone else. NeNe is crazy too. She looks out of place to me. They definitely all put a new spin on HOUSEWIFE!!!

WEll.. The part that killed me was the church scene. When Mrs. Snow was tithing and the camera made a point of highlighting to the rest of us that her tithing was $15, 000. I wonder if she actually gave that check in. This pple spend money far beyond their means and it is not a true representation of their reality. I am a black proud woman and i see the contrast between the atlanta housewives and the Orange county ones. Orange county housewives do not flaunt their money so that we know dollar for dollar what they spend and that makes me know they are probably more well to do than our black ignorant atlanta women. And i live in atlanta as well. Very poor representation of our pple and town.

I don’t understand why because the show is in Atlanta the response is so much more negative than the original series, the one in orange County. In that one there were only 3 housewives, one was engaged and the other was divorced. Because this show has Black women on there, we are so quick to tear them up and down the street. It is merely just entertainment and yes some of them can get jobs and are full of themselves but that is a lot of people whether it be ATL or LA or NY. I love Nene because she is honest and real, a little rough when she’s around certain people but she is comfortable in her skin and a protector of her family. I like Lisa because she is trying to be Superwoman and recognizes what she wants and will go after them. DeShawn is probably the typical NBA wife that doesn’t have to work but wants to try to have a non-profit that benefits others so that it can fill her days and she can feel like she’s done good deeds at the end of the day. The jury is still out on Kim and Sheree is looking to still be known as the NFL wife or live that lifestyle even though she is divorced. She is tough and had a wall built up and lifts herself up to keep from being hurt. If you don’t like the show, don’t support it and find something else to watch rather than blog negatively weekly.

This is a terrible show and does not represent “society” woman at all, either black or white. Has anyone noticed the way these women speak and murder the english language or when they show the country club they belong to, what terrible shape the greens and fairways are in? True Atlanta society women would never be on a show like this that maligns women and brings attention to themselves. Real society people shun the spotlight and media, you might see a photo of them here and there at the Piedmont Ball, Heart Association Ball or events at the symphony or the High Museum. I just hope that people in other parts of the country and world don’t think these shameless, self promoting women are not real representatives of the quality people that live in Atlanta.Shouldn’t this show be titled “Real Housewives of Alpharetta?”

These women have little substance and I think it’s embarrassing to have them as a representation of Atlanta. I watched the show for the first time last night and I will not waste any more of my time. I realize TV portrays them in a certain light for ratings but I couldn’t help thinking, somewhere a young woman is watching this and wanting this kind of superficial life.

Whether you love this show or hate it, it’s obviously garnering lots of attention based on this chain of comments (and the wonderful writing of Rodney, kudos). Having previously watched the Real Housewives of Orange County and New York, I have to say this installment looks to be even more fun, rife with conflict and dramatic than its predecessors.
We in the ATL have to understand that there is a high-dollar, sports and celebrity-rich group of African-Americans that have a lot of influence in this city, I’m personally proud of that because the African-American elite in most big cities just don’t have as much power or pull as our community in Atlanta. Some of the ladies aren’t the most educated, sure enough, but I bet we all have engaged in “street speak” vs. “professional speak” — it’s part and parcel of being from the Dirty South, and who cares if the rest of the country finally keys into it?
But Sheree definitely needs to get an attitudinal adjustment, she looks like a tranny to me. Definitely get a J-O-B honey and, for the record, I think NeNe not being on her b-day invite list was NOT an accident. I like Lisa the most so far, and her loving relationship with her husband is an inspiration!

The show is funny to me. I think most people know that this is not a true representation of people in Atlanta. I’m from Orange County and have had to defend the place as not being how it was portrayed.
I like the Hartwells the best. Dallas Austin probably got paid quite a bit for his part in the show. Maybe by her Big Poppa? Still trying to figure who that is. I don’t believe she is 29 at all. lol. They’re all ghetto fab. It’s funny to me. Money really doesn’t buy class.
I didn’t like NeNe at all at first, but she’s growing on me. Maybe I’m feeling sorry for her regarding her dad situation. When I first saw her husband, I thought it was her granddad! haha

A couple of things:
First, I’ve only watched about ten minutes of this show ever because it made me want to throw up. It is that stupid, and so are the people who continue to watch it.
Second, I’m only writing because one of the two actual wives (of the five idiots) used to be my neighbor. Nene, it turns out, lived on my street (maybe 200 yards from me) until a month ago. The scenes I saw were indeed from a house that looks like our neighborhood.
But here’s the thing: They were renting the house. They didn’t own it and had no chance to afford it. They have moved to a much smaller place was filming was complete. They aren’t wealthy and never have been. The whole show is a playing a joke on the idiots they actually are able to get in front of the camera. Nobody with money and any self-respect would ever agree to do a show like this. It would not surprise me if the other four “wives” didn’t have money either, and the show paid for their houses too.

Great, just what African American women need; another slap in the face! It only took 5 minutes of viewing this program to see what an awful representation of African-American women this show is. It’s bad enough that society already views African-Americans in a negative light; now we have to deal with a show that puts a big ‘ole spotlight on such negative stereo types. Contrary to popular opinion, there ARE black women in this country who have obtained career/financial success by not being an entertainer or marrying a professional athelete! Was this the best cast Bravo could find? Get a grip, “Real Housewives of Duluth;” stop riding on your husbands’ success and find some on your own!

I have to say that this show is outrageous…i watched the first 2 episodes and honestly i am not impressed. what a poor representation of our city…yes the show gets ratings and people tune in but in the end people are going to think we are shallow and money hungry…horrible and BRAVO should be ashamed of themselves for even starting up this season with such shallow women…i think Lisa is doing the best out of all of them but im sure she has her issues as well

After watching last night’s episode, I am convinced more than ever that this show is scripted. I have a problem when African Americans are thrust into spotlight, and it’s not fair how they make a mockery of our race. Being an avid viewer of The Real Housewives of OC and NYC, you sensed some might have been scripted but not to the level of ATL. None of the men except Snow on the show have real long, successful careers, the women use their own bank cards, NeNe’s house is not furnished nor does it look lived in….I just don’t know what to say. Being child of successful African American Upper Class parents, I know the lifestyle and this pitiful excess is not it….

I watch this show; not because I think it’s real but because I like entertainment. The only one that I think comes closest to keeping it real is NeNe. She’s kinda like one of your homegirls from around the way. Sheree acts like she is some kind of wonderful especially when she made a comment to the effect that every woman wants to look like her………..puleese. DeShawn is a lazy excuse for a mom; I mean my mom and dad raised 4 kids (dad worked full time) and mom never missed a beat when it came to making sure we were at our respective schools on time and making sure we ate breakfast before we left home, etc. There was no need for an assistant/nanny or chef. Kim looks much older than 29; I’m 32 and she looks a heck of a lot older than that. Lisa is truly a go-getter but I can do without hearing about how wonderful Ed is in every episode.

This show is so ghetto. The real housewives of Orange County was at least a little bit better-at least a few of them held jobs and made their own money and didn’t just live off their husbands.(2 of them were Real estate agents, and one owned an insurance company).

I was channel-surfing last night and happened to come across this show. I had initially said I would not watch it, but I was so fascinated by what I saw, I could not turn it off. A real housewife takes care of her home, sends her children to school, and (usually) goes to work herself. Being able to juggle all of these things is the true challenge of being a “real housewife.” These women are very materialistic and phony. They probably came from very modest backgrounds, yet they love to drop designer names, and spend money foolishly. And all of that store-bought hair!!! Get real…find some true housewives…these people are only playing a role on television.

This was my first time watching and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. No “Flavor of Love/New York” over-the-topness. Here’s my take: NeNe: seems to be a genuinely good person. The whole “Dad” situation is sad but she should focus on either mending an already broken relationship with Curtis OR connecting with her real dad. Something has been wrong with her and Curtis for a long time. Kim: I don’t believe she can sing a note and it’s sad that she has the pull to waste the time of artists that lots struggling yet talented singers can only hope to meet. Gold-digging personified. Sheree: seems so uppity and arrogant without cause. I wish she could see what I see when I watch her. Lisa: haven’t seen enough to form an opinion yet. She’s the prettiest housewife though by far. Deshawn: I’m torn. The foundation is such a wonderful thing but the “obviously zoomed in on” $15k tithe check, preferred church seating, and buddy-buddying with the pastor seems to send the wrong message that money can get you anything, even in church. If nothing else, it’s mindless entertainment and watercooler chat.

Let’s see, what are thye doing now? One is at the drive in window at KFC for the third time today. One is haggling over the price of a knock-off Prada purse on Buford Hwy. with a woman that know 12 words of English. That’s two more than the ghetto housewife knows. One is at the county jail visiting a relative and one is having her weave busted out and cleaned because her hair was moving while she was standing still.

The show is really funny to me. They really look like clowns. You can tell that they don’t really have “money, or class”. That’s that new money that some times don’t last long. People with MONEY act like MONEY.

I did say before I liked Lisa best, but she does come with her own baggage… She used to be married to Keith Sweat and had children with him (2 girls I think) and he refused to have them on the show. He has or had full custody of them already. So, now she talks about how great her hubby is now because she apparently had a horrible marriage with Keith Sweat.

Ok here is the deal, I am not sure rather KIM can sing or not. But I will say this, she will not be the first one to get a deal who can’t. Know Lisa did not show up a lot in this episode so , as far as with her , She kept it low this week but please change that into with the rumor that your a gold digger I think that makes people not look at your other business ventures. . Now Sheree, I am not sure still how I feel about her she is a bit self absorbed, I get that she is 38 and does look good but a little more exploration into goodness is needed, not so much me me me talk. Dashawn. Is it me or does her mouth not always move either she has it wired or those veneers are too big, and more on her. Tithing is between you and God so in the future don’t let the camera pick up how much you give as with your wealth ( you mans wealth) it is your duty to sow. I think 1 million was lot to ask for for one night and all but I do admire your zeal in the process. Back to Sheree as i think about it I notice you don’t like short dresses , I like that you can wear your long dresses and still look good. Maybe you don’t care but do you think about how your viewed and all with some of the things you say? Deshawn did not talk about her elaborate staff this week thank GOD girl get to know your own kids and perhaps they will listen to you when you tell them to do something. and they will love you more if you be a mom and not just be a DIVA. Bottom Line: This is a TELEVISION SHOW. It is scripted, shot and edited to entertain. Everyone here has obviously been sucked in. You either love it or hate it, but you still watch it. Whether you want to believe it or not, ALL these women are smart in this one instance. They WILL benefit from this SHOW. I am positive the ladies with businesses and non-profits have garnered PLENTY of attention since the show has aired. Their web traffic has increased tremendously and now that America has seen the kind of money involved, they are more that ready to jump aboard of these women’s ventures. As for the ladies who do not have businesses, they definitely have aspirations. They have made a name for themselves so when the opportunity presents itself, they will be recognized for their ROLE on the SHOW.

I enjoy the show for what it is, entertainment.
I love NeNe. Without her the show would be SUPER dull. Go NeNe.
I think Sheree is pretty and interesting also. I like that she’s laid back. She’s sneaky and looks like she’ll stab a person in a minute (like NeNe said) but she’s fake and we can see it, so that’s ok. lol.
Lisa is ok. I thought she’d be more exciting. She’s got the most going on and it would be nice to see more of her “businesses”.
DeShaun is boring, fake, bland, yawn. She’s so monotone. Trying to raise $1 million is crazy. I bet she sits at home with her foundation while her husband does the “groupie” thing. She reminds me of Snoop Dogg’s wife saying “He comes home to me though”… lol (I know I’m hating snicker)
Kim - Why is she on the show with that big fake wig? I’m mad she had her daughter’s b-day party with her boobs hanging out. I think she’s trying too hard. And is “Big Poppa” the only name she could think of? WTH… how about a John Doe name. rolling eyes. Dallas Austin was laughing his a** off when he heard that song. He was thinking, “She won’t sell 5 records but I do have free publicity on this show to let everyone know I’m a producer and I’m still in the game.”
Love the show!!!! It gives me downtime 1 hour a week to let my brain tune into my dumb side. Very refreshing. :D

Let me start by saying I love the show!!
I love NeNe, let keep it real she is REAL and will let you know when you are out of order, I love her.
Deshawn, is the new wife in the group and is trying to find her way, give her a chance, I think that she can and will hold her own.
Lisa, my opinion of her is she is using her husband football fame to make it, but at some point she is going to show what she can do without him and stand on her own.
Now my two least favorites.
Sheree, is in a world of her own if she thinks that she deserves a 7 figure divorce settelment ,which the ex-husband has probably willing to give just to get rid of her she is what we call in South Fl a BIBI (B@#*$).
Kim , is a HOT ATL MESS!! Fake from head to toe, Big PaPa is some other woman husband and need not think that for one minute that is man is giong to marry her, he doesn’t want to be seen with her. As for a career in music sing she should probably give it up before she waste poor old Big PaPa and his wifes money, because it is clearly not hers if it were then she wouldn’t need permission to send it.
I agree with NeNe when she said that Sheree and Kim deserve each other, the two of them are out of there league, hell they showed up to the game but aren’t on a team !!

DeShawn in particular…….. Don’t get it twisted….DeShawn is all about DeShawn.
The real purpose of her “self named foundation” is to prop herself up. One big ego boost…… Oh and to shelter her husbands income by donating a portion to it for a tax write off.
Look at who the Board of Directors are on the charity’s website. Her, her husband, assorted pro athlete’s wives, and Eddie Long’s wife….. Guess that $15,000 get more than just an auction commitment.
In the end I don’t hold it against her for starting the foundation, but don’t use it as an ego trip.
Do something real with it or you will never get people to focus on your cause and donate$$$.
Sheree? Where does she get off……. I don’t know Bob Whitefield from boo, but trashing your childrens father in public is the epitomy of “No Class”. Was it not him who set her up with a boutique in Atlanta some time back when they were married?
Just saying, any self respecting man would run the other way seeing how she trashed him…….He may not have been perfect, but she is far from it also. You do see glimpses of her being human/decent when she is being social with others, but when she faces the camera she comes off as an egotistical, self centered vampire. Get help with your issues, and get over yourself girl. You will be better off for it when the camera stops filming.

Can you please move that money that you spend on your hairdresser to a spa? You need a facial and whatever else they can give you to assist you in your style. I figured she was 40 trying to look/dress like she’s in her 20’s… that explains it all. lol. And stop putting lipstick OUTSIDE of your lips. Thats so 1992.
I hope the ladies get blogs. I’d like to address these things directly. :) (Now I’m done with my hating for the day - but you have to admit, you know I’m right about those points)! I’m 31 and I started being self conscious that maybe I don’t look 25 like they say I do… cry.

This show is so ridiculous. I can’t stand Sheree. So far I like NeNe she about the only real one.. I wonder if they have all the money indicated on TV… I have learned people who have wealth don’t have to show off or try too hard… You can just look at them in ripped jeans, off brand clothes and tell they come from money.. But people who married or just came up on some money just over do everything. But unfortunately that’s majority of the entertainment AA community. Some of them are so focused on brand names and other matieral things it’s ridiculous. That is also why most end up bankrupt or broke in years… what a waste!!!!

I agree with Arlene. I am a real housewife of Norcross. I work out of town 3 days a week. The other 4 I am doing laundry (can u hear the dryer going right now?), making breakfast and lunches at 7am, running errands, going to kids’ school and extracurricular activities. I go the the hair salon once a month, the purse I’m carrying today came from TJMaxx, I have taken a glamour shot once in my life, have lunches out with my HUSBAND, and my “me” time is spent browsing in Target and spending what we need and a little extra. I love my life and (for the most part) the ladies on the show bring to mind the saying “Money can’t buy happiness.”

I love all of the ladies on this show! Lately my favorite is NeNe - - because she is has a grasp on the true perspective of life! Lisa is smart and progressive lady too.
If you have real girlfriends; there’s always a NeNe in every group. She will not let you slay yourself or take nothing less than the best for yourself – all in the name of self love Love you for that NeNe!!! This is the best television entertainment on. I personally watch, watch and watch again. Otherwise I’m at the internet writing business plans for my clients. Ok mostly a PBS viewer.
Currently, wth life/economy, etc being a bit of a challenge; it’s just nice to take a mental break and absorb some real women stuff. After all we have seen the typical network girl shows and they all end happily every after. HO HUUM! The Sex In The City movie should’ve been called Kerry finally gets the man that hurt, disappointed and disrespected her for years. Again; HO HUUM! But Love the shoes and clothes.
Well, The Real Housewives of Atlanta are definitely women like us. They just happen to have money, that’s all. I wouldn’t watch a show featuring women in trailer parks, struggling wishing for Buddy to come back.
Entertainment TV is supposed to be fun and full of the unexpected. To nit pick on these women that you don’t know personally – demonstrates self misery and maybe self hate.
A visit to the spa can begin the process of SELF LOVE.

This is hilarious but fun to read the various opinions. It’s critical but in many cases very true.
Did anyone hear DeShawn when she referred to the “Jury” vs. the “Jewelry” which would be auctioned at her fundraiser. It is amazing that these ladies want to be known as the “most Elite” but struggle with proper speech, clear diction and etiquette.
Nene is definitely keeping it real, “Real Ghetto”, she is a twin to the chic on “I Love New York” and seems to be seeking an opportunity as such.
Any whoo, it’s interesting and hilarious and I’ll continue to watch no comparison to the previous Real Housewives of…. people with money don’t flaunt it.

I happen to catch an episode of the Real Housewives of Atlanta last week. Having lived in Atlanta for several years, watching this show was pretty disappointing. I know some incredible, intelligent, and hard working housewives in Atlana. I don’t feel that these ladies really represent that! Some of them are very superficial. I was wondering why Kim was getting upset when her daughter Brielle was being unappreciative at her birthday party. You have to teach your children how to be appreciative at an early age, and not allow them to think that when they receive things they are just entitled to them. When she stated her daughter was her best friend, that’s where she’s heading down the wrong road. If your child believes that you are best friends, then when it comes time to being their parent then you become something you haven’t been. There has to be a line drawn for children to understand who is the parent and who is the child. I realize the show is all about ratings. It would have been nice to see less superficial side to the show!

This show is comical…Nene is ghetto!!!But I like her, she is real. Her husband is old, but who cares, he’s rich!! Lisa is really pretty and appears to be a very hardworking, classy lady. Sheree needs a reality check!! First off her looks leaves a lot to be desired and her attitude is horrible. I feel sorry for her ex husband, poor guy! Kim can’t sing worth a damn!! Big Poppa is probably a very wealthy, old, married, black guy that is making this white chicks life fabulous! And last but not least Deshawn, out of all the people she hired to work for her, not once did I see her interviewing for a personal trainer. And the church scene….Please!!!! I have a girlfriend that attends New Birth and trust me no one can get that close to Bishop Long. She is assigned to an Asst Pastor according to her name and if she has any problems she needs to contact them. So the moral to that story is that if you have clout and money you can see Bishop Long whenever you like.

2 words NEW MONEY This is part reality with a lot being boosted by Bravo. Nene was my neighbor, so she is one of my favorites. She is sweet to everyone, Her and her husband are really good people. Deshawn just moved here so I believe her and Sheree’s relationship is still fresh and that’s why she said “This is Deshawn Snow”. Lisa is my other favorite.
If you recall in the 1st episode. Nene said they all have more money then her, way more. Nene and her husband our maintaining at that level. You don’t see her spending money foolishly, nor Lisa. Those other 3 will be in the poor house but I seriously think most of this is being proped by Bravo. For instance, when Kim wrote the personal check for 68k. I did the same thing when I bought my truck, except when I got the check from the Credit union that was financing the deal They gave me my check back.
I didn’t watch the other real houswives show but I still think this one is the best.

Interesting that none of the ladies portrayed here are “Real Housewives.” They’re self-absorbed, narcissistic gold-diggers. They’ve all “COME UP” on the backs of their husbands. A real wife and mother is the backbone of her family, she supports her husband and is a complement not competitor, she spends considerable time training her children, and is selfless not selfish.

I have lived in other big cities - Chicago and New York; cities with REAL culture and civic value. This show is why the south will never rise again.
I have lived in Atlanta 3 years and find this to be a truly accurate representation of the majority of Atlanta. To quote - “there is no there, there”
These women belong to clubs that allow you to buy your way in. Perhaps they should mention the clubs they have been invited to join…probably a very short list.

What bothered me was the episode where DeShawn writes a $15k check to New Birth which is the only reason she was received by his Majesty Eddie Long (that and the cameras…what a publicity hound!)who then had the audacity to tease her with a potential offer to participate in her fundraiser but told her if he did she would “owe him”. What a poor representation of the faith community.

This show is TRASH!!! And, the only true semblance of Atlanta high society it depicts are the skyline shots and some of the restaraunts/shops of the city. These people are “NEW MONEY” with very little grace, dignity and culture. This depiction will only increase the belief that a lot of people around the country already have about our uncultured, hick, country, redneck, unrefined society here in the ATL. People with “real money” don’t have to go out of their way to make sure others know about it. Most of these ladies are pretentious, arrogant and obnoxious.
Ms. Hartwell is the only one who appears to be motivated, hardworking, sane and grounded with a career. NeNe hides behind her “keeping it real” montra so that she can justify being a bi@$h and abuse people. Being obnoxious is not flattering to most people. Sheree needs to get a clue. She’s not as wealthy or important as she might think she is. Her ex was the 8th NFL pick in 1992 who signed 7-8 deals in his career with one being a restructured deal in 2002 to free some money up for the Falcons. All in all, he probably made $50-60 million dollars at best on the field in 15 years. Much of that is probably gone now via failed investments, cars, homes and toys and is no longer funneling in. That’s why she’s hoping for a lump sum divorce payoff. At best she would get half his stuff which can’t be more than $10-15 million at this point. Professional athletes tend to have “hangers-on” who steal, cheat, lie and take their money(Just ask Vick). Sheree opened the show saying she considers herself to be in the few group of “Elite” wealthy people in the ATL. Note to Sheree-there’s A LOT more wealthy, important people than you in this fine city.

I love NeNe, she is as real as it gets and she may not be polished but I could see myself being friends with her. She cracked me up so many times this episode with her rendition of “Don’t be Tardy to the Party” and her one liners such as “I’ve known her 3 years and I never even heard her hum. Maybe you can get a grammy by humming”
Too bad Big Papa Lee Najjar has hip hop connections - scroll down to the bottom under OVERSCENE - instead of country connection. Not that there’s any hope for Kim anyway, connected or not.
DeShawn seems really sweet but she is touched if she thinks she can raise a million dollars in one night.

I read with rising anger and disgust some of the comments about this show….this is TELEVISION, not real life, people. These women are a bit much and WAAAAAAYYYY over the top, but let’s be honest, they are all playing to the cameras in whatever “ROLE” they have created for themselves. This is not a true indication of the housewives of Atlanta and I am sure most of them (the REAL houseswives) take great offense to being compared to this manufactured fluff….see it for what it is and stop making generalizations about all of the south and all of Atlanta. It is nothing more than FICTION, FICTION, FICTION!!!!!

Please tell me Sheree did not say “axe” not once but twice last night. I nearly fell out of the bed, well so much for class and culture. I wonder if any of these women would like themselves or their lives if they were stripped of their money and material possessions. NeNe, even with her money is apparently dealing with real life issues, the remainder appear to be living an unreal fantasy. Talk about conspicuous consumption. Money sometimes is here today and gone tomorrow, take it from someone who’s been there.

Hold up there isn’t no reserved seating where Mrs Snow was sitting at. I personally go to that church and the area where she was seen seating is not considered to be reserved.
And for someone to say Bishop Long only speaks to folks with money is a fool. I am not rich like the snow or shefffield… but Bishop always have time for me.
Yall need to get the facts before hating.

I agree with Raz! They did make it a point to show that she was tithing 15,000. First of all does she even have a job? I really love NeNe because she keeps it real. Whether she is 40,50, or 60 I think she has the right to know who her real father is. And Sheree really gets on my last nerves. She acts like she is Ms. USA or something, when she almost looks like a man. Sheree and Kim portray themselves to be just gold diggers esp. when Kim got the Dior packages delivered and then she said that Big Papa pays the bill. Then when he called she blew him off. Let me just I will be glad when my Orange County girls come back because at least they go through realistic dilemmas.

Why did the producer bring to the TV Screen…Atlanta Housewives? What I have seen is all women are showing materizlist things, partying, buying cars, homes, business taking up their time; and giving the TV viewers the impressions that they are above others who lives the same ways they do…yet, they are not exploiting it on the wide screen before the general public. In these days and times, we are not really interested in other people lives; unless its positive and life learing experience where other can follow and have a life that is meaningful to the children and those who work hard for it!

Also noticed that most of the cars shown are grey Range Rovers. Hummmmm….. I know we’ve seen other cars like Kim’s white Range Rover, white Escalade and white Porsche as well as a silver Merecedes (can’t remember who) but mostly shown are the RR’s.
It’s a bit scripted not at all a little reality as shown on prev shows.
Sheree does have a tight body but she and Lisa are the two who are showing a wee bit of class. Sheree doesn’t want this to be a reflection of her character when this is over and I don’t blame here. Money hungry? Maybe, but who wouldn’t seek a sizable payout in her situation, especially if the other spouse can afford it.

Sheree—Gurl please stop lying to yourself. If it had not been for your ex- husband that you seem to despise so much, you truly would be nothing. Your attitude is self absorbing. Your not really all that. Infact your probably one of the most shallow individuals on the show.
DeShawn- I think your okay…but why let the world know that you are giving 15k in church? Seems unreal and not sincere. I have been to New Birth many times and have never shook Bishop Eddie Long’s hand. I guess he acknowledges his big tithers only. This is very disappointing!
Kim- Gurl PLEASE…get some more extensions cuz they are NOT working for you! I’m also surprised BIG Poppa hasnt upgraded you from your townhome to a house.

I’m really not a fan of the show. It portrays Atlanta high society as obsessed with parties, clothes, money, and catfighting. It’s a shallow representation of an overall class which may or may not have the values presented.
Additionally, the way the women speak is appalling! Slang, cussing (more bleeping that some other shows), and just foul temper. Yes it’s TV, but respect yourselves a little bit more than that if you KNOW you’re going to be broadcast across the nation.
As for the episode I actually watched (which taught me how much I don’t like the show)…Kim you REALLY don’t need to spend $4000 on two handbags that your daughter won’t ever use again until she turns 12. An 11-year-old doesn’t need a $2000 purse; she doesn’t need a several-thousand-dollar birthday party complete with limo and catering at 11. Splurge on 16 and 18 and 21, NOT the younger ages or else she’ll begin to expect it at every birthday. Money breeds greed early when presented with such expensive presents. Teach your children the value of working for their money and their accessories instead of throwing a $2000 purse at her at the age of 11.
Definitely NOT a fan of the show >.< Catfighting and greed over parties, money, and clothes are not appealing and make Atlanta look bad.

The only one on the show that I like is Lisa. She works hard, she’s very positive, she’s not putting other people down to make herself feel better.
DeShawn and Sheree need to realize that the only thing that separates them from everyone else is the money they got from their husbands. Neither of them has earned a dime of it. And at the rate they spend it (full time chefs? PLEASE!!), they won’t have it for long.
Kim? Well, that whole “Big Poppa” thing pretty much tells us what we need to know.
NeNe seems “real,” but that’s not necessarily a good thing. She seems to need to have the attention on her all the time or she’s not happy.
And here’s a tip for all of the ladies (especially Sheree): If you have to TELL people you have “class,” then you don’t.

The show is terrible. I watched one episode and half of another to give it a chance. It is so superficial. I am not hating on the money they have, but I do think that there is a such thing as priorities. I work for a non-profit in Atlanta that works with homeless men and women. We would love to have the money these ladies spend a purse or Escalade. The money they spend should be put to good use by helping someone else. Or at best, a retirement fund for themselves or their children.
I don’t know of many educated people that care about having a purse that cost thousands of dollars. I am an educated women with a Bachelors and Masters degree and my biggest concern is putting my education to good use and mentor those behind me to graduate from college and do the same.
Get a grip ladies!

If Kim is 29 then I’m the Virgin Mary. She looks like a 40 year old floosy. I hate the way DeShawn talks through her clinched teeth. She is my least favorite. I was turned off by her when she got all grandiose thinking she had to hire and entire staff to run her house when she doesn’t have a job or newborn baby. Yeah she runs several foundations, but you can do that from home. I thought Sheree was older than 38. Her body is nice but she looks manly. Ne Ne’s husband is very sexy. Ed Hartwell looked sexy when he was cooking soup for his sick wife.

The show is what it was intended to be - just plain entertainment (at least I hope that’s what it was intended to be - surely it isn’t a documentary!) And probably not meant to be taken seriously. BUT - unfortunately some people may get the impression that the people really are representatives of Atlanta. As so many comments point out - real society people don’t label themselves that way. Their actions speak for them (as does their ability to speak proper English). And people with real money don’t need to flash it. I find Sheree’s “seven figure” settlement to be telling. That could be one million or nine million. Bob Whitfield wouldn’t pay (or maybe couldn’t pay) $9 million, and one million - to a truly wealthy person - is nothing. How long could she live on an after-tax settlement of one million!?! And by the way - it really is stupid for a young woman to have such an extensive staff with only two children (who are spoiled rotten). But it is TV - and funny. I especially like the comments of many “sisters” who live in ATL. (not THE ATL).

Atlanta’s old money guard, the Cox money…all the old Buckhead money wouldn’t give this gutter trash the time of day. If any of these women showed up at an old money house in Buckhead they better have a bottle of pin-sol and a toilet brush in hand because they’ll surely be mistaken for the domestic help. They’d also be frisked each day as they left. The unmarried blonde is a hooker, you all haven’t figured that out yet. She gives good old white trash a bad name.

This show is such a poor representation of Atlanta. Having been born and raised in the city of Atlanta I find this show completely humiliating. These women have no class. They have poor grammar and bad taste. It is embarrassing to think that America’s impression of Atlanta will come from these attention starved, “wanna be” divas. If you want to show the real wealth of Atlanta, come down to West Paces. Although, most of those women might be too classy to display their wealth on a tv show. Such a disappointment.

I have been around all of the women except Kim. Three of them I know pretty well.
Unfortunately, what you are seeing on television is really what that try to get others to believe about them on a day to day basis. However, those that know them know that they have very little substance. “Pictures” don’t lie. They are truly an ignorant, self-absorbed group of women.
I must admit the show is entertaining! It gives us a ton of laughs until the next time………..

This is probably the worst show I have ever seen…In fact, it hurt my stomach to even watch a minute of it…These women are so trashy…it’s as though A&E forced a singer (horrible) , made up a charity (leader who has no clue) and seems as though NeNe (or whatever) already knew her father, was, well not her fater! I just checked back to see if my message was posted. No, I don’t live in Sugarloaf Country Club and neither of them do either. NeNe lives across from Sugarloaf in the John Weiland community. But according to one of the other bloggers, she and her husband were just renting that house for the show.
Sorry, Kathy isn’t my real name. Good guess. But I am married to a very wealthy celebrity. I don’t need to flaunt it. All celebrity wives aren’t airheads and ignorant. Just the ones that have no class and want others to belief that they grew up with a silver spoon in their mouths. Most of these women grew up very poor and their husbands now have to support not only their own families, but their wives families.= as well.
I did grow up in a home with two parents that worked very hard to provide us with a comfortable way of life and stressed the importance of getting an education. I could tell you more about my husband’s and my accomplishments and the community in which we live, but then I wouldn’t be any better than the others. Would I?

Loved it that the good Bishop - Eddie Long, made a guest appearance. He fits right in. He sold his congragants a bill of goods that if they tithed to HIS church, God would bless them. Yes, Yes Bishop, God blessed them indeed. 25% interest rate on a Mercedes they couldn’t afford. 100% financing on a crappily-built house in the burbs that’s now worth $75,000 less than what they bought it for in 2005. Bishop Long’s rise to fame and fortune correlates entirely with the easy credit days. Not hatin’. He’s driving a Bentley with 0% interest. He paid for it with YOUR money. Ha ha. Awesome. “A food and his money are soon parted” So much for the prosperity gospel. Maybe folks should get back to the REAL gospel.

I so love NE-NE..I have said from day 1 she is Hood but not Fake..I will take Hood and Real over Fake anyday with NE-NE at least you know what you’re going to get…..If Big Popa trades him in for the 2009 model what in the Hll is she going to do. The show is lame to say the least, however, devil’s advocate-no one bitched, moaned, and complained about the fake, plastic blondes on Real Housewives of Orange County, nor about the loud gum popping tricks on the NYC show. So why is everyone trippin on the Atlanta housewives? It’s a show people…gaudy entertainment that brings the network high ratings. Nothing more, nothing less. Okay, now that I got that out of the way, allow me to do some griping of my own…LOL! DeShawn talks as if her jaws are wired. Why would a grown @ss woman need a make-up artist, stylist, chef, maid, estate manager, nanny, governess, pool boy, gardener, AND personal assistant is beyond me. That is just plain L-A-Z-Y! It seems like Dwight tried to warn NeNe that this (all of this) would happen as a result of doing this show. But it’s too late baby now it’s too late. During their lunch in episode 2, I think he said something like “I told you this would happen.”
I wish I had prettier feet, but Sheree think people want to look like her… I even said she was pretty but YOU KNOW WHAT… I definitely don’t want her feet!!
I’m not hating on her either but she should have never even agreed to scenes where we see her feet for real.
I think the reason we like NeNe so much (those of us who like her) is because she’s not putting on a front. Ms. Whitfield enlisted the services of Ardoin Enterprises to replace the event planner she fired on air. Ardoin Enterprises was notified in less than 12 hours to provide desserts & decoration for the dessert table & ice sculpture table. Ms. Whitfield was billed the following day for the bakery bill of $346.61 & an additional discounted charge of $50 for services rendered. Ms. Whitfield wrote a check for $386 which bounced and after repeated attempts to collect the debt has not paid to date (7/31/08). She has been notified via telephone & email & has been presented with various methods of payment including credit card but has failed to make good on her obligation. She is on the verge of being sued in small claims court for the debt owed

This show is not any different from the other housewives show. In the OC version only two housewives really worked, in the later an additional housewife was added and she worked too. In the OC version one of the housewives married a pro-baseball player and was an ex-Playboy model.
In NYC the Bethany and Alice were the only housewives that worked. Bethany was also single.
These shows are PURE entertainment and nothing else. It’s not PBS—it’s Bravo, most of the shows on Bravo are scandolous, guilty pleasure shows.
I may be in the minority here, but I like the show. I am hoping for a 2nd season. NeNe and Lisa are my favorite housewives. I also know a lot of women in Atlanta like the women portrayed on this show.

When I look at these women, the first thing I think is what about their children. Deshawn has a foundation for girls, but her boys are out of control, with one yelling that he doesn’t like to wait. With all of Nene’s money, can she purchase a vocabulary. No one wants to see their mom on tv vulgarly cursing. Excessive cursing on national tv is not classy regardless of how much money you have… and Lisa, my personal favorite, is constantly putting down her first marriage and former husband, who I found out is Keith Sweatt. How does that make her sons feel about hearing their dad portrayed negatively on television?

Unrefined.Classless.Uneducated.Unsubstantiated.Tasteless.Ignorant.Wasnnabees. At the outset, I would like to express how disappointed I am in the poor depiction of Atlanta’s social elite. As a member of Washington, DC’s social elite, these five women would not have ever been accepted into our society. Further, I know plenty of elitist in the Cascade section of Atlanta who are just abhorred by the five (5) Young ladies Bravo has chosen to represent Atlanta. These young ladies are “new money” at best. If Sheree was so affluent why would she host a party at her home rather than a lavish hall? Those established in various urban-area societies find importance in grace, humbleness, and service to the community rather than shopping excursions to Lenox Mall or Phipps Plaza. I would like to see a follow-up conducted on these womens’ lives to see if they have sustained their lifestyles. My bet is that they won’t.

Poor English and no manners are the most notible signs of classless behavior. If I were African American I’d be concerned that this show makes it seem like only atheletes and entertainers have money in the ATL black community. Lisa even said that they sell homes to “atheletes and entertainers, but don’t exclude business executives.” As though only atheletes and entertainers are considered high class prospects. First of all, the only reason this show got the highest ratings of all the realhousewives during its premiere is because you had tons of viewers expecting another great show like realhousewives of NY and OC, - but that was not the case, this show is trash and if you noticed a lot of the scenareos have been played out on previous housewives shows - someone not getting invited to a party, someone in realestate, someone making jewlry, someones husband attached to the hip,-I guarantee RHOA ratings have dropped considerably since the first airing, especially now that other networks have recently introduced new programs to their stations. I will not watch this show but a will return as an avid viewer once Bravo brings back the realhousewives of OC and/or NY. The RH of OC is returning in November and I am so excited- Thanks bravo!

Look everyone. I have read several of the posts on this blog and I just had to write a response. First, the definition of housewife is “a wife who manages a household while her husband earns the family income.” Thus, please stop saying these women should get jobs…..”real” housewives don’t work…duh. I am a real housewife….and guess what…I don’t work….duh…my husband does. Oh, and by the way I have a Master’s degree and actually do take care of our three children. Second, these women are not “real” housewives…which is also kinda the point of the show. I do believe that most of the negative comments are more harsh because these women are predominantly black. Unfortunately, in American society making black females villians is an acceptable stereotype. However, in all fairness none of the women on any of the “real housewife” shows including Orange County and New York have been representations of a “real” housewife. All of the “white” women on the previous shows were self-centered, shallow, money hungry women whose wardrobe, makeup and hair were terribly overdone. None of the “white” women from the previous shows appeared to be good role models as mothers who put their children’s needs ahead of their own manicures or facelifts…so let’s not be so “surprised” at the behavior of the current group of “housewives”. The TV show desperate housewives doesn’t represent any “real” housewives so let’s not be ridiculous by being so harsh on these women. Any idiot watching these shows that expects them to portray “real” housewives is just that…an idiot. The shows are fun, silly, superficial FICTION that are not intended to do anything more than entertain us. If you don’t like the show…then don’t watch it stupid. Your TV does have other channels on it…LOL. I haven’t see a “real” housewife on any of the shows including Orange County, New York or Atlanta. Finally, just in case you don’t know what a “real” housewife is allow me to explain: a “real” housewife is actually married(not seperated, divorced or somebody’s booty call) residing in the same house as her husband on a daily basis whom she actually sees(this rules out Kim and Sheree), a “real” housewife doesn’t work outside the home(this rules out Lisa), a “real” housewife actually manages her “own” home on a daily basis…”herself”(this rules out Deshawn), a “real” housewife takes care of her children on a daily basis…”herself”(with assistance from her husband), a “real” housewife doesn’t party every five seconds(this rules out NeNe), a “real” housewife doesn’t care who is wearing what, a “real” housewife goes grocery shopping…”herself”, a “real” housewife puts her “family” ahead of her friends, a “real” housewife is basically…..A REAL WOMAN. None of the “characters”(yes I said characters) from the Orange County and New York shows are “real” housewives either because none meet all the definitions listed above and can each be ruled out by one or more of the above definitions. I would like to see more of the women rooted and grounded in the word of God, allowing the Lord to direct their every foot step, I believe in having fun, living life, but in a Godly way, I did not see Deshawn put the tithes in the basket allowing america to see how much it was, however if she did I believe that was inappropriate, your tithes are between you and the Lord. I also think that if these women are married into money then what’s his is their’s I would just like to see them being smart about saving in case one day the unmentionable (divorce) should happen. I think God created us all different for reasons, but if you know him, share him, because some people just don’t know!
