10/29: “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” ratings continue to rock
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I spent the day trying to find out if WABE-FM actually reached its fall fundraising goals in a very difficult environment but general manager John Weatherford was nowhere to be found. WABE missed its spring 2007 goal but has reached goals in the fall 2007 and spring of this year.
I’ll report it tomorrow, assuming he gets back to me.
Otherwise, it’s a quiet day so here’s a miscellaneous mix of news:

-“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is a hit for Bravo. In its fourth outing this past Tuesday, the show drew 1.27 million viewers, virtually the same as the week before and about double its opening numbers. Among the coveted 18 to 49 demo, it’s drawing a sold 1 million viewers. And here’s the advance plotline for next week’s episode, which airs at 9 p.m. on Election Night.
Shereé and Lisa let loose at a pole dancing class. Lisa, DeShawn, NeNe and their husbands spend a luxurious evening together at a vineyard to celebrate DeShawn’s 34th birthday. The dinner takes a turn for the worse after NeNe starts to gossip about Shereé and makes up a nasty song about Kim’s music career. Kim and Shereé have a Botox date during which Kim finds out about the song NeNe sang about her, the two bond over mistrust for NeNe. When Kim ignores NeNe during an afternoon of lingerie shopping, the tensions mount and things get ugly. Kim’s plans for stardom are at stake as Grammy Award-winning producer Dallas Austin sends her to celebrity music coach, Miss Jan. Meanwhile, inspired by DeShawn, NeNe starts her own foundation for battered women, Twisted Hearts. She throws a “Big Hats” fundraising brunch and opens up about her past turmoil to a moved audience. After futile efforts to get NeNe and Kim to talk, DeShawn joins NeNe for a girls’ night where they focus on surrounding themselves with positive people and true friends.
-“The BET Hip Hop Awards,” which aired last Thursday and taped at the Atlanta Civic Center, did relatively well for the network, pulling in 3.06 million viewers. Locally, 242,000 Atlantans caught the show, making it the 12th most popular show of the week among primetime shows. Nationally, the show ranked 133rd behind a Saturday repeat of “The Office” on NBC. Ratings, though, are down from 2007 (3.28 million) and 2006 (3.68 million)
- About 33.6 million people saw the Barack Obama ad. Locally, Atlanta only ranked 43rd out of 56 major markets, with about 600,000 people catching it on various networks. ABC’s “Pushing Daisies” did slightly better than usual this season with 6.6 million viewers but that’s hardly a rousing figure relatively speaking. The whimsical show is definitely in ratings trouble.
-CBS’s “Ex List” has been yanked off the schedule on Fridays. The show wasn’t very good and the ratings were dropping to boot. Fox has also pulled “Til Death” from its November sweeps. And USA has delayed the debut of “Law & Order: CI” until the first quarter so it can air 16 episodes in a row.
-Former Atlantan and “SNL” cast member FInesse Mitchell is not impressed with SNL’s Fred Armison and his take on Barack Obama:
“I love Fred,” he told Jam in Canada.. “He’s one of my favourite cast members and he knows that. But the overall review of it is that African-Americans wish they had chosen an African-American. I like it, he just needs to loosen up a bit and be a little more soulful.”*
-North Springs High School grad and “Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider will do three episodes of ABC’s “Dirty Sexy Money,” playing a Congressman who screws over Simon. Info courtesy of ew.com.
-And NBC is having a rough time this fall with hit shows losing steam (see “Heroes,” “Law & Order: SVU”) and none of its new shows doing particularly well (see “Knight Rider,” “Kath & Kym”). Only “Saturday Night Live” is getting any buzz. In Atlanta, the network didn’t have a single show land in the top 32 last week. ABC and Fox had 10 each, followed by CBS with nine.

The ‘Real Housewives” is a train wreck on Bravo- and not at all representative of the true housewives, the gentile ladies of Atlanta who have more class than to air their dirty laundry in public-

Here, Here Karyn! What I am confused about is the poll dancing class…weren’t they teaching because I thought that is where most of them last worked - strip clubs! They all look like they fit that stereotype than an Atlanta socialite.

NBC has the best lineup on TV
SNL, 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl, The Office, Law & Order SVU
Add House, and that is my TiVO for the week.
Wached the Housewives to see the Atlanta places on TV (ST. Marlo CC, Skyline..ok that’s about it) don’t think I can sit through this a 2nd time. They need to take these women and th girls from The Hills and send them to the Army

To Karyn:The ‘Real Housewives” is a train wreck on Bravo- and not at all representative of the true housewives, the gentile ladies of Atlanta who have more class than to air their dirty laundry in public- “
The ladies are not suppposed to represent the typical housewives of the ATL. That’s the whole premise of the show - rich, catty, spoiled, pampered divas. And they do a good job at that. I must say I am uncomfortable watching the show with out my wife because of the amount of cleavage that’s flashed. But the show is entertaining and gives me a nice visual of the lifestyle (not the way they act) that I aspire to obtain. Anytime I can fill my mind with something besides brokeness and struggling, it’s helpful.

I agree - Atlanta is laughing at these poor women. I ax you, would you tell everybody you bidness and say how much you pay for yur jury? Well, these women would. And have. On tv, no less. Listening to someone speak like that is like nails on a chalk board. I can’t imagine any of these women succeeding in a world where round or oval balls don’t pay the bills. I wish they’d chosen educated business women instead of entertainer / athelete wives.

Stop it already with the hate! I enjoy the show, but I’m not crazy about all of the ladies. I saw NeNe yesterday in the store and she was very approachable. She’s my favorite. The negative comments just means that you all are watching the show. Keep making those negative comments!

What happened to the Atlanta I knew? This travesty defames the character of an entire city. I hate to think what they’re thinking in Boston or Chicago. The producers of this travesty should be sued.

There’s all sorts of entertainment — even the people hating on this show find it entertaining obviously. I find it very entertaining, and funny. I also have my (positive & negative) opinions about the show as well — I choose not to talk about it being that everyone else is. No need. I’m too busy worrying about who my next President is going to be. I will not argue that it speaks volumes but who am I to judge? I actually hate reality shows, but this one is keeping me coming back every week to see what happens next. Wow, I did give a negative opinion once on another blog, and I felt like crap after and I couldn’t delete it. It was true what I said, but I hate hating on people and although I wasn’t hating IMO - after reading what I said it felt like pure D hate and I felt awful afterwards. Like bad sex. I also find the blogs entertaining and I’m interested in knowing how others feel about this show. Maybe if there were more reality shows about reality — I would watch them more. For now, I’ll keep watching this one.

HOA is a reality show and if some of these women who put the show down had the opportunity to be a reality star would jump at the chance. Now who wants to watch a boring show when you can make it entertaining. All those women on the show exist, it just may not be you. NeNe does need to stop the profanity so much but other than that I love the show.

Tacky, tacky, tacky. I graduated from Emory several years ago. Please do not ell me that these classless and tasteless divas represent the “City too busy to hate”> It was pathetic to see that clueless DeShawn try to interview an “estate” manager. Ms. Snow’s grammar and diction were appalling. I cannot believe that anyone could believe that her fundraiser would succeed. When you have to leave invitations to the best of the best in Atlanta in Atlanta Malls to your “private” home, you are in trouble. DeShawn’s hubris in getting dressed and made up was laughable, as was her appearance. It was a good thing that she boasted of the security she had hired. It was probably necessary. Why did she believe that anyone was going to bid thousands on “jury”,as she pronounces jewelry, as if they were bidding on pecan pies at a bake sale? During this debacle, her frenemies knew her reach was exceeding her grasp, but just sat back and egged her on. It seems as if she blames everyone when she has no social skills or good taste and her dreams fall apart. I loved it when she said that it was tacky for the invitees not to contribute to her charity.
Kim is delusional. This kept woman cannot stop praising the beauty of the also long-faced Sherri. Kim, you are right. You look absolutely amazing for someone 48. At least, you do not have long skeins of “Michael Jackson” hair hanging down your long face as does Sherri. Kim, you are working really hard to start a brawl with your compatriots, especially NeNe and Sherri. With those two, it should not be too difficult. However, this scheme will backfire. Those two will make up and even Big Poppa will not be able to protect you when Sherri and NeNe come after you. I will also bet you that you can’t sing and Sherri can’t design. The best you and Sherri can hope for is that Big Poppa stays around so that you die wearing Dior and Sherri gets a good divorce settlement. I imagine that Lisa can sell jewelry. At least, she can pronounce the word.
Atlanta used to be a great town and probably still is, but classless and tasteless divas do not make Atlanta look like the progressive South. There are no bravos for Bravo in this horrid misrepresentation of a great city which many great women are proud to call home.

How sick that you cheap parvenus would think that you are models for young girls! You are nothing more than the laughing stock of an entire city. Unfortunately, people from all over the U.S. will look at this and think it represents Atlanta. But I’m sure you and Bravo are laughing all the way to the bank. It’s so hip to dump on the South!

Today in “Peachbuzz”, Lisa commented she felt the Atlanta cast was singled out more than on the other two “Housewives” shows because of their color. Um, no. It’s because the Atlanta cast is tacky and tacky knows no color. This show proves that money can’t buy class.

Every one has the right to do as they please. If Lisa can pronounce words or not she still has money and a fine husband. Is it because “you” consider yourself to be “better” than them when they have MORE than “you”? Do the math… Married, nice homes, supportive husbands, and money. If that’s ghetto….. You can call me ghetto any day!!!!

Kim! you wonder why your daughter doesn’t show appreciation for her $18,000 party: she’s probably use to MaMa, shoving out her pimps money on her. Why should she be glad, shes probably smarter than you are, she knows that if papa stopped giving you all money today, you would be on Welfare tomorrow, like some of the real housewifes of Atlanta. Some people love to be in other peoples business because they don’t have any of there own. But this show is too much. It would be _lack folks and one token they talk into getting in front of the camera and making a complete fool of yourselves.

I don’t mind them doing the show I watch the other housewives showes and it was almost the same but i just don’t like the fact that kim is so damm fake it is awful she picks sides which is two faced ” we are grown” damm that is high school s** if you are going to be friends with someone be true to yourself and you want have nothing to worry about. Kim plays NeNe and Sheree and it is awful one minute NeNe is her friend for 3 years and she not going to let Sheree messed that up but it is not Sheree it is her and it is sad. Is she even saving the money from her so called BIG DADDY, her stuff isn’t that good to make a man want it forever… come on and how do that make the kids materialistic? She is just awful… PLEASE HELP THAT CHIC.. will continue

I have looked at this show only twice. And it is still a mess. In my opinion, Lisa and her family are the only ones who act like they have class and really doesn’t have any drama with them. She is smart and has her own jewelry line getting ready to sky rocket and I am so happy for her. She’sa beautiful woman inside and out. I love her and her family!!!
As for NeNe, I think she craves attention and likes drmam. jNo grown woman should be telling another woman who to be friends with. I think she is so loud unnecessarily. But there is one thing I do agree with her on. That is not being fake. If you don’t like someone, don’t fake and smile in their face.
Kim, she needs to go back under the rock she climbed out of. This woman has got to be the most two-faced out out all of them. One minute she is kissing NeNe’s butt, then she was kissing Sheree’s butt on this last episode. And if she is trying to be a country singer, being that your on a tv show. Why in the hell would you not sing on tv so that thousands of people can see and hear you????? Duhhh!!!! This woman is ridiculous. I’m sorry.
And DeShawn, girl don’t you know where you at??? How in the world would you hold a fundraiser and let any and everybody come. All those people in your house, drinking and eating your food, did not even spend one dime. You should have had someone with experience to do the fundraiser for you. Hell, you hired a hair dresser, cooks, nannies, and make-up artist…. You should have had sense enough to hire a professional. Now, you lost $20,000 of your husband’s money. Do you know what I could do with that money right now??? Please, you need a reality check. And I noticed that your teeth are so big. I don’t understand it.
And Sheree, you definitely have a stick up your butt. It’s ok to be cautious of people who surround you, but it’s no need to be a bitch ALL the time. I can be a bitch here and there, so I can’t say too much about that. But you…. your way over board sweetie.

The sad part about the show, is that Deshawn, spent all of this money for a fundraiser, just to get broke people off the street!! THIS IS ATLANTA, WE DONT HAVE THAT TYPE OF MONEY HERE!!! This is a working class town, this isnt LA, Or NYC! Get Real. We barely have jobs, and their homes are in foreclosure!!! Their car note is behind!! Gimmeabreak!!

I have watched the Orange Co. and NYC shows and now Atlanta. You can tell new money and that is what you see with Atlanta. They brag too much!! If you have money you usually do not have to brag about it…people can tell. Class and money do not always go together. NeNe is the only real one…the others are trying to be something they are not…and trying too hard by the way.

Ghetto Tacky knows no color - and knows no better - no matter how much money is involved. These so-called “Atlanta Housewives” from the northern suburbs are a disgrace - regardless of their color. Their lack of intelligence, ethics, breeding, decorum, common sense, humility and character cannot be compensated for by ANY amount of money.

These GOLD DIGGERS aren’t from Atlanta they are from DULUTH!
Of course BRAVO didn’t pick the truly rich and refined southern belles of Atlanta, we don’t behave like that.
They picked the group that they knew would deliver the trashy H0 behavior which equals ratings.
The one I’m confused about is Lisa Hartwell…so far she doesn’t seem to belong in this group.
Of course we are all watching them make complete and utter fools of themselves. Everybody loves a bloody train wreck.

It a shame this is how the rest of the country views Atlanta, through these spoiled women, whose greatest accomplishment in life is to be married to successful Black men that provide for them. It appears they only have one talent and they use that to keep these men around. I have to also question their intelligence for staying with them. Maybe it will cost them too much to leave.
One can tell their intelliegence level or (lack there of) every time they open their mouth to speak. English must have been an elective for them when they were in grade school as it is apparent they did not reach the high school level, let alone college. If it was college it must have been a course on the back of a matchbook.
Real Housewives of Atlanta, way to respresent Blacks on television. You make Steppen Fecthin appear intelligent. My bad, he did what he had to do at the time. No one knows why you do what you.

I like watching Atlanta Housewives. They are truly entertaining and so Ghetto-Fabulous with money. I just don’t understand why two of them who don’t even have husbands are on the show. I thought they said housewives, not kept women. They can have all the money and material things in the world. But at night they are all alone with no one to love. Don’t get me wrong! It’s great to have money and material things, but to have love is even greater. To love someone and know they love you, that is worth more than all the money in the world!!! Their husbands and sugar daddies will not live forever. I suggest they go get a college degree- all the way with a PHD it will take them a lot further than waiting on another to pay your way!! Good luck. They will need it. these men will not be able to play ball or live forever!

I think that Bravo could have selected some better choices of women from Atlanta with classier taste…Kim, the white girl is embarrassing, being a kept women. All the women talk about is spending money and who they know and who they should invite to their posh parties - how about doing more for the community you live in. Kim, go get your hair fixed and quite trying to be a black women and act like one. Being friends with black women is fine, but stop trying to be one. It is nice to see some diversity on the show with different ethnic groups, but the women chosen do not represent any Southern Atlanta women I know. It is kind of making Atlanta women look, shallow, self-absorbed, only focused on money and lazy and do nothing but live off their husband or men who they can sponge off of like Kim is doing. What kind of standard is she setting for her daughter - get a life Kim and grow up! Get a job or get of your husband’s alimony if you are going to live off of another man, you might as well be his paid lover, if you get my drift. How embarassing to represent the women of Atlanta this way. I do not think the majority of the women live this way or sit around being catty talking about how they dislike each other in the their friendships and how they socially wish they did not have to invite each other to their parties and be so self absorbed about planning their own birthday parties and bashes for their own celebrations. Most people I know with money in Atlanta spend their time raising funds for the needy and helping those less fortunate than they are and volunteering at hospitals and schools not being ugly among their friendly circles…these ladies obviously do not have enough to do. And, I do not believe they are true friends and have real morals and foundational good self esteem and beliefs if they spend their days worrying about how they look and how much money they spend on their parties and who is on their guest list - real wonderful people attract nice valuable people to share their funds for good causes and there are some great people in Atlanta willing to do great things to help others - the Woodruff family, the Andrew Young family, Hank Aaron’s family, John Weiland’s family, the wonderful people who started Panos and Paul restaurants and many more (families of various racial backgrounds). These people are from various backgrounds and well known Atlantans for generations and known for their philanthropic efforts in the community as well.
Frankly, I am not even 50 and these ladies on these show are giving the Atlanta ladies a bad name if you ask me - I am not ready to claim them as a stereotypical, southern Atlanta housewife!

This show is an insult to the women of Atlanta. We have an abundance of fine, intelligent ladies in Atlanta, both black and white. Bravo obviously set out to collect a bunch of shallow, tasteless blacks with new money burning their Gucci handbags and then throw in a token white blonde bimbo with the singing talent of a trained seal, who thinks she’s the next Loretta Lynn. Thank you, Bravo for making the women of Atlanta the joke of the year. Funny that L.A. and New York did not receive this treatment.

I watched last night’s show for the first (and last) time. How local music celebrities such as Dallas Austin and Jan Smith could have let themselves be pimped out for that travesty of a singing performance by Kim is incomprehensible. I have never seen anyone so self deluded about their own lack of ability, and she had the gall to get mad at Smith for telling her the truth. She CANNOT sing a note! Also, the woman has school age children, and she could not spell “cat”.
Most of the women on this show are beneath contempt and were obviously picked for their shallowness and ignorance, and I’m sure thay see nothing inappropriate about their behavior or how they are portrayed on the show. But Austin and Smith should know better than to participate in such nonsense. I’m ashamed of both of them.

LOL…I’ve watched all the housewives shows and can say that this one is by far the worst representation of women. I watch it for pure amusement and take absolutely no offense as a black woman because I know they are the minority and not the majority.

You can take the chickenheads out the Hood, but you cant take the hood out the chickenhead.these chicks are mad ghetto. I also really didnt see the reason for a real house wives of ATL. ATl has not reached the status of LA, or NY. Plus house wives are suppose to be married. Not single chicks givin the booty up for money, like half these chickens on this show… Big Boom from NY…
