11/20: “Real Housewives of Atlanta” finale hits 2.21 million viewers
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is the biggest debut series on the Bravo network since “Queer Eye For the Straight Guy” many years ago. It was also the biggest series in the franchise except for the third season of “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”
The finale brought in 2.21 million, 1.68 million of them in the coveted 18 to 49 year old demographic. That’s the most of any “Real Housewives” episode ever. The series over seven episodes averaged 1.31 million viewers.
Though Bravo hasn’t said it, it’s fair to say season two is coming whether you want it to or not.
-Atlanta actor/rapper Ludacris is performing on “Saturday Night Live” this Saturday. Tim McGraw (who had a crossover hit with Nelly a few years back “Over and Over”) is the host. He is set to perform “Chopped & Skrewed” (with T-Pain) and “One More Drink.” The first performance will come on after midnight.
-If you heard 790/The Zone’s Chris Dimino Wednesday saying he was going to WGST-AM, he was just joking.
-Star 94 has a new program director J.R. Ammons, who happens to be the station’s former music director, according to Radio and Records.. He takes over Dec. 15 for Dan Bowen, who left in August soon after his boss Mark Kanov retired.

Real Housewives of Atlanta = Real Idiots of Atlanta. What a black eye on the image of Atlanta. Heck it is even worse than Shirley “Panhandler” Franklin’s silly Everyday is an opening Day” PR disaster.

Somebody please answer this question.
Frank Ski, Tom Joyner, Steve Harvey, Rickey Smiley.
Come on Brutha’s, these gay characters eliminate thousands of listeners. I will not listen to your shows with my teens in the car. It is a horrible example and is no where near mainstream African American culture.

C’mon guys… We can’t take this show personal or serious. It’s pure entertainment. I must admit, it’s as bad as I expected but it’s funny and I looked forward every week to seeing how these girls would clown themselves. The goal of these shows is to have a large viewing audience which they were very successful in doing. They had to get a cast that would capture peoples attention and that’s what they did (Ne Ne, Kim, Sheree). I personally can’t tolerate Sheree but I still watch her for LAUGHS. I got a kick out of that “Dreadful” fashion show…LOL.

Mike Hunt, I thought I was the only one that felt that way. This is why I listen to the other stations, and then Frank Ski is the worst because he/she portrays himself as a woman that is ridiculous. But then again I am suspicious of the co-host anyway.

“Why does every successful African American morning show have an obviously sounding and looking gay man to on their show? This is insane.”
Answer: By adding these characters, program directors or producers are directly marketing that niche.
But its not just African-American radio shows, family-time T.V. that are plagued by this technique. I have had to try and explain it to my 6-year old why are two men called “married”? Just yesterday on MTV’s Parental Control, I saw two elderly women, referred to as his parents, trying to give away their son….Tila Tequila… So the list goes on. And you can focus on African-American shows to fuel your ire if you desire, but other shows are likely to creep in the back door of your kids.
The media is inundated with creative people, other writers, and producers that generally attack our moral boundaries that effectually produce guilt when we reject this lifestyle depiction in media. This marketing tool has opened the door to our psyche, and especially the psyche of some of societies children as a means of non-sexual procreation.
This non-sexual procreation (I think I made this up, right now), is how gays/lesbians increase their numbers.
And despite the spirit of your question, obvious you do not like African-Americans by singling my group out, the technique will have a negative impact on our society as a whole.
Its just money, STUPID?

I stopped watching television for four years because I felt like I my IQ was being lowered by the constant bombardment of reality television. I recently started back watching it and I have realized that I really didn’t miss much. Shows like “the real housewives” have the ability to misrepresent but I am sure for some they do entertain. I just hope that the children that may watch this show do not try to emulate the ridiculous behavior of some of these “real” women.
Furthermore, for those that think this is classy television. Please review what your definition of class is. Because if reality TV is considered class then we are in a whole lot of trouble.

I love the REAL Housewives of ATL.
This show is pure entertainment. If I didn’t like the show, I surely wouldn’t take the time to write about it…or watch it. NeNe is too funny.
And Sheree??? Well, there are no words to describe her foolishness.
What do you call a fashion show with no fashions??? A party!
But, I think Kim had the best line….
—Flashback—
Ms. Jay: Kim, what’s two plus two?
Kim: Four.
Ms. Jay: Kim, how do you spell cat?
Kim: K-A-T.
— Present—
Kim’s spelling of cat was priceless. I’m still laughing.
Too funny. I”m keeping my fingers crossed for season two.

All,
I know the original thread was about the “Housewives Of Atlanta”. Actually, I am not sure if the two unattached females count. I.E Sheree and Kim.
Anyway, I am going to vent a little bit more about our Morning/Afternoon radio.
Why during every interview do our African American hosts continue to play that beat music in the background? You can hardly hear the interview. I don’t know if Michael Baisden or Frank Ski is louder. It is so irritating. I turn the station even though I generally want to hear the topic. The background beat music is just too loud.
Also, I can’t watch the Frank/Wanda tv show at 11pm because Ms/Mr Sophia is so repulsive to look at. I know plenty of real Sistas that feel the same way.
We are more socially conservative than our radio hosts would have the general population believe. Just a vent.

It’s the greatest show on Bravo by far !!! I hear alot people say negative things about the show, but somebody is watching !!! Did you see the reunion Sheree and Lisa had to hold Nene back from whooping Kim’s behind !!! (Which she needs whooped )LOL
The classic line for me is Kim saying , “NeNe knows better than to speak to me, she get her A@@ beat first” LOL !!!!
Kim must be smoking crack !!!
And NeNe’s song about Kim was soooooooooooooooooo Funny !! Kim knows she is not 29 !!!! She must think we are all stupid !!!

Some depictions of excess are unnecessary. This show is one of them. This show to me is reminiscent of The Big 3 executives showing up to Washington to ask for a bailout. Out of touch with the reality of the moment but inclined to expect a share of the pie.
Bad timing for rubbish like this.

There is location. Over there. There it is. I will get there as soon as I can.
Their is a group possesive. Their house. Their books. Their car.
They’re is the shortened form of they are. So when using They’re think They are.
I don’t know where they’re going. I don’t know where they are going.
You’re follows the same vein. You are.
Your is a possesive you. Your socks Your clothes, etc.

Anyone with reasonable intelligence watches TRHOA purely fo entertainment reasons. It’s purported “reality” television, but we should all know by now that much of reality TV is scripted. It has to be in order to generate high ratings. Less and less of what producers choose to air is spontaneous, and much of the “reality” quotient winds up on the cutting room floor.
I can watch this show with enjoyment because I look at it as entertainment and not a true representation of real “housewives.” If Bravo wanted to do a show profiling real housewives in whatever city, the ratings would be a disaster because the majority of real housewives don’t carry themselves in such a manner as the ladies of OC, NY, and ATL.
That said, there are glimpses of authenticity in NeNe and DeShawn, who I think are the truest represntations of real housewives. They appear to have wonderful relationships with their husbands, to whom they’ve been married to for more than 10 years. That’s a long time to be married in this society. DeShawn had Eric’s back when they were both broke and eating Ramen noodles and Hamburger Helper in college. Gregg is very supportive of NeNe, and I could see that he’s not happy with how much wine she kicks back. If your wife embarrasses you in front of your social circle because she’s had too much to drink, and you can still support her every effort, then that’s love and it’s genuine.
I agree with another poster who said that now is not a good time to portray these reality characters on their shows indulging in such excess. However, some people don’t mind seeing that because it’s an escape from their own lives. Plus, you can’t begrudge what someone else has despite the nation being in an economic crisis. I just hope that Eric and Ed were smart with their income and planned for the day when their respective careers are over. It makes me wonder if these people really need so much house and those luxury vehicles and employees? It’s smart to downsize and still live well.
Last thing, DeShawn should tighten up on the mission of her foundation. In a society in which nonprofits are asking for charitable donations to fight juvenile diabetes, breast cancer, domestic abuse, the spread of AIDS, homelessness and hunger, DeShawn’s plea of helping girls build their self-esteem isn’t going to fly. I mean, it’s admirable, but that need would be very low on the totem pole after a host of more dire issues plaguing our nation and the world.

Come on, the REAL Housewives of Atlanta? I don’t think so. I’m a native and I don’t think any of these ladies can claim that, plus they do live outside the city limits. And whoever thinks that Duluth is part of Atlanta is clearly not from Atlanta, either. Kim is sweet, but who didn’t laugh and feel sorry for her when she tried to record her song? “There’s a tightrope between me and you … ” Come on. Nene’s song was 100 times better. At least she can carry a tune! Sheree is just a plain old mean girl. Nene was def. the most entertaining. And DeShawn? Nice girl, but seriously needs to get a clue. Lisa seemed to be the most normal of the bunch. They really should mix the next season up by getting some Buckhead Betty’s on the cast or at least some true Atlantans.

Mike Hunt was correct about every morning show has a gay character, what’s up with that, I thought I was the only one who notice it and it is a shame, plus the he/she is loud & obnoxious along with Wanda they both need to go or tone it down, Frank has great guest sometimes on his show but you can never understand the point the person is trying to make without Wanda talking over them or interrupting with something silly.

Money, Wealth, Style, Sophistication, Culture and Class speak for themeselves. If you have IT you don’t have to brag about IT or speak on IT. My favorite Real Housewives are the ladies from NYC. The ATL ladies are a mess. Sherre’especially. First of all her name is SHERRY, she is NOT beautiful (she is attractive) and seeing Bob Whitfield on the episode with her fashionline, she is clearly a gold digger cause Bob Whitfield looks like a gigantic KodaK crosseyed bear. The Housewives of Atlanta is an entertaining show that has big ratings for Bravo. The women on the show of course are going to be loud and crazy to keep a hit show. I do wish NeNe would tone it down because the women are role models for young women. I do hope Bravo will add more housewives to the show so that the world can see there are rich different kind of class women in Atlanta.(Preferably women who do not cuss and are used to having money and show more of a Obama first lady class style) NeNe if you are reading this please stop cussing so much. There are grown people that are offended by your loud cussing. I wonder what it would be like to have the Orange County women meet Atlanta women? New York show was too boring for me and I thought women with color should have been apart of the show but the show is boring anyway.

Maybe Frank Ski, Tom Joyner and all the other successful African-AMerican radio talents knows something YOU don’t. Maybe they realize that throwing one minority under the bus doesn’t make another feel better about themselves. Maybe, just maybe, Dr King had a point when he said that until all of us were treated and RESPECTED equally, we are not yet equal as a society. Grow up, get over it…your kids already have, and unless you scare them from the real world, they’ll be just fine, too.

the most entertaining part of all the brouhaha surrounding “RHOA” are the postings on this blog! hilarious! you ppl crack me up. : ) society has become so desensitized to what “class” really is that classless and obtuse people fall for nonsense like this as “great entertainment” !! sad commentary. why doesn’t something educational and esoteric like Nova warrant the same kind of adulation? hhmm. and folks wonder what has happened to the moral fiber of our youth and society at large? BECAUSE WE ARE INUNDATED BY HORSE HOCKEY LIKE THIS!! but if I had to pick, of all the reality shows portrayed as ‘entertaining’, and i use the term loosely, it would be The Kardashians. at least you have attractive, funny, but spoiled little rich girls [and Kris the mom is the most attractive of all]who know what their socioeconomic status is in the hierarchy but are willing to mock and poke fun at each other and themselves! the women of Atlanta’s version of “real housewives” is just what Dan says: Real Housewives of Gwinnett! … yep, ‘see the train a comin’, a comin’ round the bend’… SCREECH, CRASH… dead bodies in our wake. come to think of it, that “ain’t” so bad… seeing the show crash and burn. gimme andy griffith anyday.

okay, so i stayed up past midnight watching the RHOA marathon and cracked up! I was blown away by the amount of money these women waste on their pet projects. I thought it was hilarious that DeShawn, who has no experience as a fundraiser and didn’t seek out any advice, expects to pull off a major event in less than three weeks and with no real game plan. I agree with Sheree that someone should have pulled her aside and told her that it wasn’t going to work. BUt I also thought it was poetic justice that Sheree’s fashion show was a train wreck. She talked so much junk about DeShawn not knowing what she was doing, yet she decides that because she likes to dress nice she can, therefore, be a fashion designer. I liked the way Michael Knight tactfully suggested that she learn about textiles. What a slap in the face to the people who actually study their craft to have someone who thinks a fistful of dollars makes them an expert. Sheree’s face was CRACKED at that nonfashion fashion show and she got what she deserved. Kim was and is the dumbest person I have ever seen on TV. This chick is numb from the neck up. I wonder how she’s paying her bills now that she and Big Poppa are done.

This program is a real tasteless and a disgrace to the black race and mainly black women. If I were these ladies I would not allow anyone to televise me and show me acting like a bunch of fools. NeNe is soo ugly and looks like a transvestite that is why she is always keeping up mess. No, she is not happy with herself there is no way she could think that she looks good. I hate to talk about her children, but her older son is not a good looking young black man and needs to take those earrings out of his ears and try not to bring any attention to his face. He looks like his mom and that is not good. The younger Son is so handsome and does not look anything like the older one.She needs to go and buy herself a high priced mirror and then look and see what she looks like. She does look like a low budget want to be rich good looking classy black women, but instead she looks like a man and she may be, you never know. As for Deshawn, she is overweight and needs to see a dentist for that overbite she has. Her smile is onesided and messed up. Her husband is not good looking either and so they would be the couple to be married for 10 or 11 years. Noone is looking at either one of them. Clothes, shoes, purses, cars and homes does not make the person and she could look a little better if she spent some of that money on a weight lost program. Kim needs her hair done by someone that knows what they are doing, because whomever is doing it now has it jacked up. I don’t know why she can’t keep her hands out of it, I hope its not because she thinks it looks good. She can’t sing either. Sheree is pretty and if she did not mess with these messy women she could have something going for herself. She needs to consider working on her fashion business and let this show and these messy jacked up women alone. The other lady that is the only legitimate working one of them has it going on, but she needs to get away from this messy group of women and not let them put her business on tv again. She is the only real one of them as far as I can see she is the one that shows the real black woman and how they live, with money and also without money. She does not try to always bring attention to herself and she is a picture of what the Black Female should look and act like. Her husband is a nice guy and they act real not fake like the others. I just hate that they took the Black Women and made a picture that shows just how ignorant blacks act. I think it is terrible, you could even see that Dallas did not want to be showed on this program because it was tacky and tasteless and any black woman with any class would not have let them make a show with him on it, especially one that has it going on. Kim wants to be black so she is included in this mess she is going to need a lot of voice training, but before thay she is going to need to be trained to act like a real woman before she can concentrate on a singing career. These women and their husbands and children were put on this show and portrayed the black race as always messy and trying to do things that were not for the good of the home. They are all alcoholics every time you see one of them they have a drink in their hand, just like people think black people abuse alcohol and drugs is what this is showing. I don’t care if it is wine or whatever alcohol is alcohol any way you put it. I am proud that Mr. Snow is the one not drinking all the time as the others are. Their Children are present when they are drinking and that is awful. When do any of them help their kids with school work. If you are going to do the things that are suppose to be important in the black home don’t leave the kids and school out.I just get disturbed when the black race is shown in a disgracefull way and I think that this group of women got pulled into something thinking that it was going to be a show that had some class and it did not.
