11/24: Cledus T. Judd ousted from 94.9/the Bull

cledus-t-judd-2008.jpg

When morning hosts get fired, they typically disappear off the airwaves as if they never existed.

That may just be the case with Cledus T. Judd, the host for 94.9/The Bull who grew up in Cartersville and now lives in that area. He was not on the air this morning and his image has been pulled from the site. In other words, he’s a goner. (I left a message with Cledus. Cledus’ wife Amy Cameron said he’s in Nashville today and in meetings. “He’s doing great,” she said but didn’t provide any details of his emotional state.

Judd released this statement

I appreciate the opportunity to have gotten to come home to my hometown and broadcast in the greatest city in the greatest State in America, Georgia. I will always be indebted to Clay Hunnicutt for giving me the opportunity to broadcast in my hometown. There are wonderful people in the Clear Channel building and there’s a part of me that feels like I let them down, but it was not from a lack of giving it all I had. I wish those people at 94.9 The Bull nothing but the best in the future, and again, am sincerely grateful to have gotten to come home and be with my friends and family. I will continue on my journey to whatever opportunities lie ahead. Right now, I’m just going to concentrate on time with my family, focus on my songwriting, prepare myself for whatever the future holds and enjoy the holidays.

As expected, Cledus’ former boss Clay Hunnicutt was mum on why he let Cledus go. “He’s going to write some music, that kind of stuff,” Hunnicutt said. “The rest of it is kind of personal.” son.

The Bull really tried to pump Cledus up with billboards and TV ads in the spring. But ratings never picked up. He ranked an abysmal 20th in the summer and early fall numbers under the new (presumably more accurate) people meter system were no better. I doubt it was anything more than that.

Kristen Gates, who joined the show a couple of months ago from Kicks 101.5, remains at the Bull. (He had already gone through Jamie Massey, Slam Duncan and Paul Koffey.)

“I’m pleased with how our station has done,” said rival general manager for Kicks Paul O’Malley. “Our morning show ratings are up. I couldn’t be happier with the PPMs over here. [That’s the new ratings system instituted in September.] I have empathy for anybody losing their jobs in this economy. But Clear Channel management made a business decision.”

Do you think he deserved the plug after less than a year with the Bull? (He started on air at the station in January.) Do you think this is a precursor to the entire country format being dumped by Clear Channel, which owns 94.9? 94.9 will probably go Christmas on Wednesday so we may not know a new format until after the holidays.

The Bull boss Hunnicutt said he’s seeking a replacement to Cledus, is committed to the country format and won’t say what the station will do for the Christmas sea

Clear Channel launched the Bull before Christmas in late 2006, alienating a lot of people by doing so before Santa’s sleigh dropped. The station has played second fiddle to Kicks ever since.

This move comes just a couple of weeks after another newbie Zakk Tyler was ousted from Dave FM after eight months on the air. Interpretation: radio companies are less and less patient in developing new talent. If numbers don’t pop immediately, a show is gone. The problem: most current big shows did not get huge numbers out of the gate. It took both the Regular Guys and the Bert Show two years to really draw a following. These firings often come before the budgetary year starts—thus, right before Thanksgiving or Christmas.

And whither the Morning Mess?

What’s real amazing about this is that I still have a job with Clear Channel!

I was one of the people saying that Country would not work on 94.9 as soon as they changed the format, but over time I did listen and Cledus genuinely grew on me. I was sad to hear that he had lost his job, but he will be fine. I used to drive from Acworth to Buckhead and I am SURE he doesn’t miss that at all. The Morning Mess is tacky, I could see them on a smaller market, but we have so many choices for radio here that they aren’t going to make it without being really great. I would like to hear Kelly and Alpha on 94.9 if they do go back to Lite music, they were awesome. I think Kristen Gates can definately survive a format change, I think she was on Star 94 for a while too.

What a bad decision to pull Cledus off the air. Cadillac Jack is a joke and Moby takes his fake country accent over the top. Cledus was the only decent country show in Atlanta…Not to mention he was a home-town boy. Guess this explains why he wasn’t at the Jamey Johnson concert Saturday night.

I am so sad, i loved Cledus. I am not a big fan of Kristen’s and never have been but I loved Cledus and wish he was still here. You can only handle so much Caddy and Dallas. My limit is normally about 2 minutes then over to the Bull. Now where am I suppsoed to go?

Just make the switch to Christmas music year round. I might have a reason to tune in to 94.9 now and then if they did.

I haven’t listened to one second of their country format.

That doesnt surprise me at all the Clear Channel bunch just doesnt get it! Cledus was a very entertaining and joyful person to start the day with, and he will be missed! Its a shame when you have someone like Cledus who is genuine and a good person they always come out on the bad end of stick in Atlanta!!! Good Luck to you Cledus!

Atlanta radio is a dinasour. Even Dave, which says it has a deep playlist, is in reality shallow and deserves it’s low numbers. 98.5 suprisingly plays the most variey, but during the week they revert to their mellow soft AC demons. Urban is what it is, as is country-too much of both.

We need a true variety station. Until then, hello internet radio.

Ladies and Gentleman,

Please use this opportunity to treat yourselves, your loved ones and/or your friends to XM or Sirius satellite radio for Christmas.

The music is 100% Commercial-Free, particularly D. Geller-&-Son-Free, and you can listen to 5 different genres of Country Music (for example) and even an All-BLUEGRASS channel.

The Braves play on XM every night during baseball season, and the commerical-free Christmas channels have already started there. Besides, the satellite signal doesn’t fade away as you cross into Alabama or Tennessee in the middle of a late-inning rally.

Take back the minutes of your life spent listening to commercials for products you will never buy (or want) and services you will never use.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

Everyone remember when “THE BULL” ambushed us 2 years ago by starting their lame Country format during the middle of their non-stop Christmas music in December about a week before the holidays?

I DO.

My satellite radio subscription started that same week, just a few days later.

I’ve never looked back or had to listen to garbage since.

I think 94.9 was wrong for taking Cledus off the air.

I met Cledus several years back when he was a mess. It is awesome that he cleaned up like he has. Cledus is really the genuine caring funny guy he plays on the radio.

I have enjoyed Kristen on the air with him much better than Jamie. And Jamie left to go to AZ where her boyfriend lives. I did enjoy listening to her over Caddy when she was at Kicks.

I really hope 94.9 keeps the Country format. Although, if not there is 96.7 The Legend (another ClearChannel station) and Kicks that I can listen too…but if not its CDs. Atlanta is a hard area for country stations but come on…we have so many others moving into the area that country is fading in Atlanta. Which is strange when many country performers LOVE performing here.

I really wish Rhubarb was still on the air. I am really going to miss Cledus on the air. How many other DJ’s can show that they have a sensitive side and a funny side at one time?

I loved listening to Cledus in the morning. He was so much more pleasant than Moby. I cannot beleive they let him go. First, they messed up with launching the Bull right as Christmas tunes were coming on in 2006, and now they have gotten rid of Cledus. They need to rethink this!

Sadly there is no chance of Rhubarb coming back to radio until April 2009 because of his contract. Whatever station that owns 106.7 is paying Rhubard to sit at home until then. You have to love those non-compete clauses.

Atlanta needs an Alternative Rock station. Since 99x went down all we have in Atlanta is classic rock, country, or top 40. I would prefer to listen to talk radio than listen to the mindless crap that is being played now. We need to bring back 99x to the airwaves.

I have not been a fan of 101.5 with all the staff changes (again & again) over the past few years. I was a Dallas/Rhubarb fan - then Rhubarb went part time (absent from the show but not officially gone) last fall. I was thrilled in January when 94.9 gave me another option - and I loved Cledus as a dj.

Now I guess its all XM all the time for me.

It just breaks my heart to see the ratings so bad at 94.9, The Cowchip. After the stunt they pulled two years ago, i have hoped, and waited for their collapse and failure.

To the management team at the Cowchip, Karma is a witch, and you idiots really “ticked” her off…

Now, lay back, hold on tight to the financial bonuses you raked in two years ago, and enjoy the renal exam you are about to receive…

Cledus is the best thing going in the mornings. Kristen will never make it by her self. Nobody will be that funny and get you going in the mornings like Cledus did. He is what led that group and station. I will look for another station now. I hope Cledus stays local and we will move out loyalty with him.

There are no more rednecks in Atlanta, they all moved to South Carolina 10 years ago. This guy would play better in Birmingham or Columbia.

How about some cosmopolitan country for Atlanta?

That dude ROCKED nights at Kicks, and last I heard went to Clear Channel in Corpus, and is currently doing Classic Rock on the beach in the Destin area.

Funny and NOT real hickish either as I recall (not that that’s a bad thing, but not everyone talks like that)

Cadillac and Dallas are a bit too redneck country for Atlanta radio…

Cledus and Kristin were great. They played more music than Kicks, were funnier than the Kicks people, and for the first time in 10 years Kicks was’t my #1 preset.

Sad to hear about Cledus and 94.9.

Kicks is good and all, but a lot of commercials and a lot of talk. All we need is another pop station…Come on Clear Channel, give us another country option from Kicks.

Sad to hear of another passing of a DJ…but must admit haven’t listened to country in a while, since 106.7 went oldies and Rob Lee doesn’t do classic country anymore. Still miss the OLD 1980s format of 94.9 easy listening. Need that for a better ATL variety.

TJ knocked him OUT! I thought they were supposed to be rivals at the time, but he seemed to think pretty highly of her at the time.

It wasn’t long after that he disappeard from KICKS. We thought he got in trouble for that fight and get fired.

Oh well good luck to Cledus. Hopefully he will get back into his music and joy us country fans with some more satire. I just don’t think he fit the radio show format. He did a TV show years ago on CMT at nights and was ok with it so I didn’t expect much with radio. As for a replacement, I don’t think they will get Rhubarb right now because of a non-compete. But I would love to hear him back on the radio. Kicks is ok, but Caddy and Dallas like to talk too much in the morning and since the new owners took over, they don’t seem to be themselves much anymore with a producer talking in the background as well.

XM/Sirus is a great addition when local radio stinks. I find a good mix between the two quite often though. For country fans, you have plenty to choose from, classic country, folk, and today’s country on three different channels (though one of them is a commercial channel). I have had it for 4 years and find myself listening to less and less local radio, but enough to know what is going on.

Cledus was okay, he wasn’t that bad. I still prefer Cadillac Jack and Dallas. Kristen Gates got on my nerves when she was at Kicks with Cadillac Jack. Her constant giggling was so annoying. Even though she didn’t bother me on Star 94 or with Cledus.

Even though I’ve been a Bert Show Fan since almost day 1. I can’t listen to whole complete segment. It took them a while to realize that not every 20-something woman wants to hear about weddings constantly. Anyway in recent months Wendy the traffic girl annoys me, but alas she is not as annoying as Stacy the traffic girl on Cindy and Ray. I mean Stacy says the most random things it’s like she isn’t even listening to the conversation.

On that note, the Morning Mess really isn’t that bad. It would be better if they stopped the childish stuff like phone pranks.

To those of you wanting to her the country oldies, flip down to 96.7, It is called “The Legend.” Sadly it is also owned by Clear Channel. However, I am not a daily listener but the newest music I have heard on it was from the late 90s. I am so sad that Cledus is off the air, but I am sure there are wonderful things ahead for him! He said on the air that he is writing songs with Rascal Flatts, and that Montgomery Gentry is interested in one of the songs he wrote with Joe Don and Jamey Johnson. I wish he had the chance to say goodbye to his fans at the BULL though…bad call on Clear Channel’s part, imo. Thanks for the votes of confidence! :)

Cledus and I were friends back in my KICKS days, and I wish him nothing but the absolute best.

As far as your comments about his hickish voice, redneck blah blah I suggest you try and DO what it is we do for a day, knowing that your every single word and action is subject to criticism by people who take their 1st ammendment right to Freedom Of Speech too far sometimes.

Remember that whether you liked the dude or not, he’s a human being with feelings who REGARDLESS of whether it was your cup of tea (pun intended lol) or not, he put 100% of himself into it.

I’m sure he won’t go broke, or have to deliver pizza’s to keep the lights on but nobody likes to be told their best wasn’t good enough, or up to par.

Too just tee off on the guy in a public forum isn’t cool and not very nice.

Southside and Country, thanks for your nice comments! Nice to remembered, and Cledus my brother …I KNOW you gotta be lurkin’ around here….all my best to you and yours -

KICKS needs the competition. I wanted 94.9 THE BULL to be that competition. Since I have a new car with XM, I now have additional options when I tire of Atlanta country radio.

I like Kristen Gates and especially liked her with Cadillac Jack. She was always good at keeping the women’s viewpoint in the forefront and wasn’t afraid to argue with her male counterparts.

Whoever 94.9 chooses to replace Cledus, they certainly need more than a year to establish a following.

Also, I would like a country station that is not afraid to play some of the old country classics. I get very, very tired of listening to some of the same artists over and over, a la KC and TS. That’s when I reach for the XM button.

It would seem to be tough to be a morning person on Country as a format because you have to be somewhat shocking and funny—while at the same time the format is so conservative; because of a variety of factors including high female and blue collar demographics. Trying to balance the two diametrically opposed needs would seem to be tough.

Good luck Cletus and godspeed.

TJ… If you still reading this blog. Many of us do miss listening to you on the air.

What is wrong with a person having a southern drawl? I thought Georgia was in the south. True southerners are supposed to sound like they are from the South, just as Northerners are supposed to sound like they are from the North. When did this change?

I know many people, men and women, who find a person with a southern accent incredibly sexy on the opposite sex. Ok with some, the same sex. And not all of these men and women are from the south.

I think its great that people sound like where they were born and raised.

And why do people have to insult others for listening to country?

Dear A SIRIUS WARNING,

You are an uneducated simpleton and are worthless.

The M-U-S-I-C Channels on satellite radio are 100% Commercial-Free, Goofball. Satellite Radio delivers EXACTLY what it promises in that area.

It is many of the NON-Music Channels that do have a very limited number commercials to help pay the contracts of the big-name, on-air talent, and the ones that do have only a fraction of the advertisements that AM/FM radio do.

Do you think Tony Stewart or Howard Stern are doing their programs on satellite radio completely for free?

JUST AN FYI: Not everything in life is completely FREE, unlike your monthly government assistance checks, A SIRIUS WARNING.

The firing had nothing to do with Judd’s ability to be a great host, it has to do with too many pieces of the country pir being split in an URBAN market. Hello!!! You have three country stations in Atlanta. Why is that? Two were more than enough, and figure into the mix South 107 from Rome, trying unsuccessfully to be an Atlanta station, blaring into that market. Who needs more country? It’s not the tallent that needs changing, it’s upper management that needs to change. There are so many people in radio these days that don’t have a clue. They listen to some stupid consultant who tells them what people want to hear, and guess what, they are wrong. The stations need to listen to the listeners again. If not, satelite radio will take over the music industry, and leave the vast amount of FCC approved frequencies for the news talk market which is the only thing that can dominate and keep things local and in the interest of the listener.

Cledus Fan -

You show how little class you have by calling other people who don’t think like you “fool.”

Don’t be hating on other people who enjoy satellite radio because your DAIRY QUEEN salary doesn’t leave with you with enough disposable income for it after you buy your cigarettes.

Frankly, satellite radio is a BARGAIN for all the VAST choices you get, regardless of your musical, political, news or sports tastes.

Heck! Getting a month of 130+ Channels for LESS THAN the cost of a lone, single 12-song CD is great deal to most people.

ClearChannel getting rid of THE KIMMER turned me to satellite, and I LOVE IT !!!

However, I don’t call other people ugly names if they would rather spend their $12 per month on something else, “Cledus Fan.”

TJ Kelly, good to hear from you man. My wife used to love listening to you on the air and I believe called into your show once or twice. Hope all is well with your new gigs.

As for the satellite radio comments….yes some music channels have commercials, but these are channels that pay XM/Sirus to be broadcast over their service. The traditional channels (over 60+) are commercial free. Yes I own one and have for several years, but I mix in my listening with local radio (FM and AM) because I like variety and keeping up with local stuff from time to time (can’t get concert info from the satellite channels). So those of us that own XM/Sirus are not stupid.

Time for an FM Talk station? Hahahahahaha! Clear Channel’s been there done that here in Atlanta. Real Radio 105.3, which featured MJ in the Morning and The Schnitt Show (same host different on-air name) and Scott Ferrall. That channel sucked wind.

HD is radio is just the same crappy radio in high def. Listening to HD Radio makes about as much sense as having an HDTV and watching only the local stations.

I’ve been a satellite radio subscriber for over three years and the only time I even listen to local radio is when it’s the local feed on a sporting event. It’s great to go out of town and not have to worry about finding a station to listen to, as I have my satellite receiver with me. My subscription fee is one of the few luxuries I allow myself.

There’s been so many format flips in Atlanta radio in the last few years that it’s no wonder DJs have even less job security than they used to. Either produce ratings now or they’ll find someone who will (and when they don’t pan out, they’ll fire them and repeat the cycle ad nauseum).

When longtime stations are having their formats flipped and those flips flop, who gets the blame? The talent; not the numbskull management wonk.

Mr. Hunnicutt is well aware of my desire to return to my hometown. We’ve spoken a few times over the years. If he should find my skill set to be up to par with his requirements and feels I’m the right fit, I’m sure I’ll hear from him.

Not only does he have my contact information, but I DO have family in the building. So I CAN be found pretty easy……. lol

I won’t lie…it would be AWESOME to mix it up with my old friends Cadillac and Dallas on the left, and my MENTOR Moby on the right….2 guys that taught me most of what I know, and a damn nice girl…

Let’s at least let the body get cold 1st though….lol

And thank you. That you would even go to the time and trouble to post that means the world to me.

Why does rock get to have a classic channel 24/7 and if we want to hear real country music we have to wait until Saturday night only? The decision to take Christmas music off the air one week before Christmas back in 2006 was without a doubt the stupidest move in radio management.

I just moved back home to Marietta from San Diego and I’ve loved listening to Cledus every morning. I like the morning show & am very disappointed that 94.9 has made such a bad decision! Not sure who I’ll listen to now… I’ll probably stick with Kristen since I like her, too, but it won’t be the same :-(

With all due respect to Cledus, TJ Kelley doesn’t sing, or dance, or talk with a funny accent BUT HE CAN BRING KICKS TO ITS KNEES!!

They turned their backs on him years ago, and I think that The Bull is CRAZY if they don’t move him up here NOW.

Personally, I think it was a great move. I couldn’t stomach Cledus when he was on his own. Only since Kristen joined him have we changed to the Bull. Kicks got rid of the wrong person when they got rid of her. She is the brightest voice on the radio in the morning! As long as she stays, we will keep listening to the Bull.

Who is T.J. Kelley?

By Eli

November 25, 2008 9:17 AM | Link to this

Kristin + TJ = Competition for KICKS for SURE!

Doesn’t anyone rememeber the “Americas Best” poll where the TOP 3 were Moby, Rhubarb and TJ?

They polled Atlanta to get their favorite dj’s, and the entire top 10 were made up of all morning people, except I think Mara Davis was in there too, but at number 3 was night dj T.J. Kelley.

He’s not bound to cost a billion dollars either, like Moby or Rhubarb. They’re both awesome dj’s, but TJ and Kristin would be a VERY visually marketable couple as well.

They could almost pass for brother and sister.

GaGirl,

TJ might be a bit before your time if you’re on the younger end, or new to the area.

somewhere around the late 90’s TJ Kelley was the night dj at KICKS 101.5. He was the frontman for the station when it came to concerts and stuff at Cowboys when they would do concerts.

The dj there (Dwight?) used to do this intro thing to introduce TJ before he came up on stage and it was AWESOME, and the crowd would go nuts…like they were there to see HIM, not the actual ACT.

I was there one night when Cledus could hardly talk for some reason, and TJ had a private stash of Slippery Elm tea at Cowboys he kept there for their live broadcasts…

We were all up in VIP on night when he and Toby Keith burst into this rap thing…HYSTERICAL!

Anyway….story goes that he and Moby got into a misunderstanding and instead of KICKS management backing TJ, he got p** and just walked out.

But girl, he’s HYSTERICAL. He’s from here, not bad to look at AT ALL, and just a good dude. I’ve always been a fan, and his name came up early on in this conversation.

I loved the show w/ Cledus…don’t get me wrong, but TJ is the guy to fix this if he’ll come back. I think he’s in like, Destin or something…

Yeah TJ made working nights easy to get by with and of course all those times at Cowboys were fun too. I would like to see him back, but another former country morning duo I have not heard about would be interesting too and that is Bandy and Bailey. They were very big at Kicks several years ago and did not have their contracts renewed. Either way, them or TJ would have me listening to the Bull a little more than I currently do.

Cledus was in the Tampa market before coming to Atlanta and the ratings were great everyone loved him. I would have to agree that it’s the management. As to bringing him back look at it this way it’s their loss and a stupid decision. Why would he want to go back somewhere that didn’t want him why would you want him to. Cledus is great in whatever he does and is a genuine person he will be ok.

i was just reading all of these comments about cledus. to all those who are saying good things about cledus that is great. i 100% agree with all of you. i know cledus personally and he comes from a very loving family that supports him 100%no matter what. his mother, which i am very close to, is his biggest fan. i am number two. i have never thought twice about his ability to do whatever he wants or be what he wants to be. he sees what he wants and he goes for it. no matter what anyone says about him or how they talk about him. he has always worked hard at getting anything he sets his mind too. i remember the day he left for nashville. he had courage and i admire him. so no matter what any of you are saying cledus is strong, he has overcome many obstacles in his life and this one will probably not be his last but to all of you who think you are being smart and saying inappropriate things and being outragous with your comments. look at all the good thinks people are saying about him and then ask yourself who would take the time to make comments about your job on the internet? and think about the fact that you should know what you are talking about before you make comments like these!!!!

Satellite Radio is Overrated,

It sounds like you are too uneducated to work the dial on the satellite radio receiver.

Frankly, local sports teams like the BRAVES and THRASHERS get far more coverage than they do on all 4 major network affiliates and the two local sports affiliates combined.

If you can’t find something you enjoy on satellite radio, the radio ISN’T the one with problem.

I loved Cledus. Maybe Kristen is bad luck. Everywhere she goes there is bad karma- 94.1, 101, 94.9. I hated “caddy” and was SO happy when Cledus came on. I am back to CD’s. There is great music from the past to get back to via CD. Done with Atlanta radio. By the way- Atlanta is still the south. HELLO….Cledus is southern and I will miss him greatly. Cledus was the ONLY reason I USED to listen to the bull. Now it is just BULL. Perfect morning show: Cledus, Rhubarb, Jim Vann & Art “mad man”!!!!

To let Cledus go was a BAD move. 94.9 just lost 3 loyal listeners in my family, and I am sure that we are not the only people that will stop listening. The other country stations are no good. 94.9 finally had gotten it right in Atlanta. Now they probably won’t make it, Cledus had too big of a fan base…What were they thinking? Cledus will do great no matter where he is. No more 94.9 at my house, work, or vehicles!

Y’all, I hate to tell you this, but Rhubarb’s not going to come back. I know him personally, and he told me to my face on Tuesday (11/25) that he has a contract with Kennesaw State University that he plans to uphold, and that he’s pretty happy working there. Don’t expect him back on the radio anytime soon.

Ever since the first day that I heard Cledus on the air, my radio has been tuned to 94.9. he was the perfect DJ for country radio. He was funny, talented and very likable. All of my friends loved him. He will surely be missed. I don’t think he can be replaced.

By Shelly

November 28, 2008 5:50 AM | Link to this

It seems pretty simple then. There are only 3 logical replacements if they want to get the ratings, and with this new “hipper” thing they’re trying to do it’s pretty obvious.

Rhubarb isn’t coming back. While he IS an icon, he may not be THE fit for what The Bull is trying to do.

Moby is doing his little multi market syndication thing, and is probably happy as a clam being able to YEAH BABY and Peaches his way to the bank, and nobody tell him not to.

Bring TJ back to Atlanta, put him in with that girl Kristen and watch what happens. I heard him on the radio when we went down to Destin for Spring Break and he’s still got it, I PROMISE you! He was on a rock station, but I’m SURE it was him.

I think we actually saw him in Ft. Walton, at this country place called The Block with a bunch of biker types…Same voice, same lunatic and YES THE SAME LAUGH….(funny how you remember things)

Hey guys..it’s TJ.

WOW. Can I just say thank you SO MUCH for the nice words and comments!

Shelly, you probably DID see me at The Block. It’s kinda my church.

Hey gang, listen. I LOVE Atlanta, it’s my hometown, and I would love to come play there again.

Do me a favor though. Cledus is a pretty good old dude from what I remember, and having your work blasted off on on a public forum really hurts.

Regardless of the outcome, dude probably gave it his all, and to tee off on him isn’t cool. Think about if you did something at YOUR work, and you really thought it was high speed, turns out it wasn’t and we all blasted off HERE about it.

Take it easy on the guy is all I’m saying.

THAT said…to all of my old friends that are on this board posting…. someone’s already found my myspace but my email is fwbrokjok@gmail.com if you wanna get in touch.

I’ve sent Mr Hunnicut the necessary correspondence stating my interest, so my name is in the hat. Not gonna lie…been talkin’ to a rocker in Dallas too….so we’ll see.

Anyway, if you wouldn’t mind, outta respect for CTJ, shoot ME an email or something, don’t post up anymore TJ stuff here.

I’m sure being the class acts they are, Mobe and Rhuby would say the same thing -

BUT THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :) :)

You’ve really got to wonder about the mind of some of the people on these blogs. You will never please everyone all of the time when it comes to Atlanta radio. Some have intelligent comments and provoke a great deal of thought and others, well…While i believe it was a business decision, it was a puzzling one at best and is just snother entry in the growing list of really dumb radio moves in Atlanta(see Morning Mess on star94 or John boy and Billy on the old 96rock) There were very few djs in this town who could connect with their audience and knew their audience. Gary Mckee,Bobby Harper,Steve McCoy(and we all know how much you all like to dump on him), Rhubarb Jones. Now im not putting Cledus in that league but if given the chance, he may have gotten close. As for the Bull, gotta go ,bye…unless you get T.J. Kelley. Besides, after Christmas, who knows what they’ll be???

I am SO sad to learn of Cledus’ departure! This was the ONLY morning show that my 10 year old daughter and I could listen to on our AM commute to school. The conversations and topics were always “clean” and appropriate, I had to change the station for some of the commercials, never the conversations. A good role model and example, Cledus and the T party were always acknowledging of the goodness in people, something you can’t find on any other ATL morning radio show. He made us laugh with his sayings and “Cledusisms.” Sad, sad, sad loss for the morning listeners in Atlanta. Any suggestions for nice, clean radio talk and great country music for our 30 minute commute to school and work?? Best wishes and blessings to Cledus.

Good luck my friend Cledus. I miss you in the mornings. I wish you and Amy all the best. Stay in touch with us here in Atlanta. Your geniune love for people really was heard over the air waves and sense of humor put many smiles on otherwise grumpy listeners…LOVE YOU, BYE!!

Just when I get use to one of your Dj’s you fire them. I’m going to find another station to listen to and find one that has some consistancy. I liked Gene & Julie and then got use to Randy and Spiff, then Cledus. Can’t you people be happy with anyone? I think you will see your ratings drop even more. They are by one anyway. **WHAT ON GOD’S GREEN EARTH WERE YOU THINKING?” Taking Cledus off the morning show was about as ridiculous as the car manufacturing executives taking tehir private jets to Washington to ask for handouts.

The decision makers that made this decision should be the next ones that lose their jobs. Cledus was the BEST radio personality Atlanta has seen in quite some time and that is for all types of stations. He was funny and very sincere but obviously loved his job.

I had been out of town and thought he was on vacation. When I heard them say this morning THE NEW BULL I went to the website and was very disappointed. I have already changed my radio station to B98.5 and I am a listener there now.

I agree with the earlier comment, Kristen has a very annoying voice and is NOT going to help your ratings. They didn’t keep her at the other station for a reason.

You have really shot yourself in the foot this time. I hope your ratings drop even more and you have to admit you made a mistake.

Love Love Love Kristen. I will miss the T party in the mornings. Keep Kristen she is the next best thing that happened to the BULL. KICKS was crazy to let her go. She is the only reason many of us listen to the BULL.

I agree. It was nauseating listening to Cledus. I’m sure he was a very nice man. Some of you don’t like Kristen. And that is fine. That is your opinion. But many of us adore her. There are 14 people in our office that followed her when we found out she got a job at the Bull. She comes across like a girlfriend. So yes! Keep Kristen Gates there or you’ll let down a whole office full of people in Vinings!

I looked at the website to see what was up after the gift of the 3000 songs, and am wondering if anyone knows where Slam went? He’s not listed on their staff—some new djs are there—Madison and Ty Bentli. ??! Ty’s a hottie [!] but I am boycotting all Clear Channel stations unless Cledus is back on. I miss him and the T-party SO much!!

First off, letting Cledus go, whatever the reason, was a bad mistake. I loved listening to him and since I cant stand Moby so I cant listen to that station in the mornings either because of him, what in the heck will I do?

94.9 You made a bad decision. Cledus was down to earth, funny, and an all out joy to listen to

Secondly I HATE yes HATE stations that play back to back christmas songs. I intentionally turn stations when they do that so keep the country flowing and save the depressing christmas songs to another station

I’ll miss ya Cledus

I can’t stand Caddy and the Bull is a great station that I have enjoyed I will give up on radio if it goes…it will be back to cd’s for me!

Why not just come up with a format you play music so you don’t have to listen to all of the personal crap. Cledus was ok, but when they brought Kristin over, I started back listening to CD’s again. She annoyed me (her laughing) when she was with Caddy and that is why I moved to The Bull. Don’t like Caddy nor Rhubarb, they are sooo into themselves. Rhubarb doesn’t have long enough arms to keep patting himself on the back. Get over yourselves, you’re DJ’s, nothing more. Love country music, but I want to hear the music, not the crap. I am sure Clear Channel will not pull off the correct decision, have they ever?

Moved to town and started searching for a homey radio station. I tried Kicks because of Kristin. Caddy’s ego overwhelmed the space in my SUV. I left town agsin and returned to find Kristin missing from Kicks. So I found the Bull and then Kristin joins the T Party and I am among friends. Cletus was a bit redneck, but it is for entertainment. My brother is more than a bit redneck and makes a terrific living as an architect in Los Angeles. If LA can accept my brother, we southerns should appreciate Cletus. Hey, I am a strict grammarian and I liked him just fine! Then I go out of town again and Cletus is gone. I adore Kristin and will stay with the BULL until they do one more dumb thing -then I’m outta here. I won’t listen to the empty heads of Caddy and Dallas. What a waste of air space.

Well..I will have to say how horribly disappointed I am that they took Cledus off the air. It was refreshing to have a host who talked about the everyday stuff that we can all relate to. He was never afraid to discuss his past, present or future. He was never afraid to show that he loves his child or Jesus Christ…it’s VERY unusual to hear that on radio, especially with our “politically correct” society today.

Another thing that was also refreshing was that he actually KNEW a lot of the artists! He had worked with them, traveled with them, etc. He was just reading from a script of arranged questions.

I am not from GA, and have only lived here for a few years. It took me a few days of listening to Cledus before I made up my mind about changing from the pop stations to country. Now, I may have to rethink my listening choices.

To all of you who are essentially attacking his personality, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Just because no one can see you and you have anonymity, doesn’t mean you should tear down another person! You are right in that each person has a right to their opinion, thankfully, I have a right to skim right over that nonsense!

Cledus, good luck! You will definitely be missed. You were a genuine person, not just a personality!

Thank you!

What a HUGE mistake in a supposed business decision to get rid of Cledus. I switched over from kicks because of cledus and I guess now I will have to switch back because I DID NOT like kristen when she was on kicks. Cledus was AWESOME and you did not even give him a real chance. It takes time to develop, I guess you don’t have time all you are worried about is the ratings immediately. Well you just lost a listener.

I am very disappointed to learn that Cledus is gone. I have been listening to him since he came onto the Bull. I enjoyed my drive into work in the mornings. I hope you have a great one! And that you are thoroughly enjoying your time with your family, writing lots of songs, and having fun celebrating the holidays. See how much everyone loves you and misses you?! My mornings are not the same without the T-Party, so I hope to be hearing you again soon! =]

I liked Cledus sometimes. He is definitely a good guy and I like that he’s from around here. But honestly, he was way too emotional for me. Laughing one second and then crying the next. Nothing wrong with being emotional it just gets a little annoying on the radio. I wish him the best though and I’m sure he’ll do a new record or something. That’s what he does best if you ask me. Merry Christmas.

I remember when Kix fired everybody. When I called to ask what happened to Kristin they were rude Caddillacc wouldn’t even get on the phone. I called the bull last week and asked what happened to Cledus. I talked to both Kristin and Tod. You could tell they were sincere and took all the time in the world to answer my questions. They miss him too. So I will keep listening because I listened to Kristin at Kicks.

I switched to 94.9 because of Cledus, I liked the way he and Kristin worked with each other. It’s not the same without him. I used to listen to KICK’s, but haven’t since they fired Mobey, I’m don’t really like Mobey on his new program, that’s why I switched to the “T party”

Cledus was great and you guys have made a big mistake letting him go. He was the real deal. Kristin is a joke. I couldn’t stand her on Kicks and it’s worse now on The Bull. She has an irritating voice and laugh and she thinks she knows everything about everything and has done everything there is to do in this world. I don’t listen to 94.9 at all now.

Wow! This really seems like a poor decision on the station’s part. I think that the T party would have really built up a following. My wife and I really enjoyed listening to Cledus and had just switched our alarm clock to 94.9. We’ll give it a week or so and then go back to our previous station if it doesn’t get better than it was this morning (which was why we checked online to see what was up).

Just another reason not to listen to 94.9. I find it hard to believe that they feel they have to constantly be changing. All the ones that were fired - were great. I loved Moby, Kristin,Jill, Rubarb and Cletus. I listen to Moby in the morning on 92.5. He is witty, entertaining, and just plain REAL. If you are ever going to get higher ratings you have to leave the DJ’s alone and cut your own salaries!!

FIRST IT WAS RICK AND BUBBA, NOW IT’S CLETUS I WILL NEVER LISTEN TO YOUR STATION AGAIN, YOU ARE CLEARLY NOT WANTING TO SATIFY THE LISTNERS. How can you NOT like Kristen? I swear to God she is the nicest person on the radio. She sounds friendly on her show. Then you call her to talk about something they discussed on the air and she is just as friendly and FUNNY. I won’t lie. I didn’t start listening because she was on The Bull. I’m not even a big country music fan. But I really like what they talk about. Don’t know about the Cletus guy. He must have left before I started paying attention. But I’m unhappy when anybody loses a job.

It is a shame that Cledus was let go. I enjoy listening to him in the mornings. I didn’t know him but I thought that he was good. I knew Jammie and miss her. The both were a good team. Just like the same fate with The Kelly and Alpha show had, the decisions made were very bad. No wonder the ratings are down. I can’t stand to listen to Kristen. She is so annoying just like waking up on Saturday morning to that stupid info commercial with Dr. Pampas and his ridiculous formula.
