2/21: “Real Housewives of Atlanta” entertain South Dekalb Mall shoppers
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A trio of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” were scheduled to start a panel discussion at South Dekalb Mall Saturday at 4 p.m.
Naturally, they were fashionably late. V-103 host and moderator Ryan Cameron said Sheree Whitfield was holding things up.
The crowd of more than 250 people didn’t mind the lateness. At 4:30 p.m., NeNe Leakes came up on stage first to the chants of “NeNe! NeNe!” NeNe, with short hair and a single shoulder-bearing shirt (but no cleavage), clearly was the favorite. (“I love the short hair. I get up and go!”)

Questions were written and asked in advance. The biggest bit of news: shooting begins Monday for season two!
First question— what were the best and worst parts of being on camera?
NeNe: “Everyone is digging in your business thinking they know me. They don’t know me!” she said. “However, I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
“Everyone is judging you because they’ve seen an hour of your life,” Sheree said. “The best part is seeing so many young people and I’ve inspired them.”
Question two: have you spoken to DeShawn Snow? Was she too normal to be on the show?
Lisa: “That wasn’t the reason she wasn’t on it. We are who we are. There’s no phoniness about her. The problem she didn’t really engage.”
Nene: “We talk to her regularly. She was disappointed she didn’t have a chance to come back. it wasn’t because she was normal.”
“And we’re abnormal?” Lisa said.
“The real deal,” NeNe said. “You need a bigger-than-life personality. She just didn’t have it.”

Question 3: “Where is Kim?” and “Who is Big Papa?”
Lisa: “We’re not telling.”
“She’s in California,” NeNe said.
“Singing?” someone yelled in the audience to laughs.
Online poll—who was the bitchiest? Sheree won.
Sheree does not apologize: “When you have an African American woman who is strong, she’s a bitch.”
Was NeNe’s kids affected by this?
NeNe: “My kids are fine. My oldest son is a little shy. My youngest son was really into it.”
NeNe said taping for season two starts Monday. “People said I wasn’t coming back. What were they thinking?” She acknowledged rumors that she was doing her own show but swatted them away.
Why were Lisa’ s two other children not on the show? Keith Sweat wouldn’t let them.
Re: Chris Brown/Rihanna.
NeNe: “For me, the reason I decided to talk about domestic violence. It was healing. I had already healed and moved on. I thought this was a way to help out other women. It was hard for me to get out of the situation I was in. If I can do, you can do it.”
Lisa: “Our stories were never trying to expose anyone. It shouldn’t matter. The fact we overcame is what matters. It can happen to anybody. Chris Brown/Rihanna. You don’t know what’s going on. But there is happiness afterwards.”
Why did Lisa get so mad on the reunion show: “Why she wanted to make me want to flip her over the couch. I’m very mild-mannered. But I could be real too. She did things two days regarding me and my children. It kind of makes it seem like I went off saying something else. She said some things.” [Kim was saying Lisa lost custody of her kids to Keith Sweat because of drugs. She denied that.]
Sheree’s clothing line She By Sheree: She said it will be ready for the fall.
Sheree doesn’t read the blogs. Lisa said she started doing so but stopped after awhile.
NeNe notes they they get paid, that of course they don’t do this for free. “And it’s six figures.” And they get more for season two than season one but she wasn’t any more specific.
“You want NeNe to have her own show?” Ryan asked the crowd.
“She’s real,” someone said in the audience.
“I don’t know how to pull away yet,” NeNe said, of people interrupting her for dinner.

Would Lisa do Playboy? “No. I have too much integrity.”
Oddly, Sheree’s mike seemed to have its volume too low so it was hard to hear waht she was saying. Or maybe she simply doesn’t have a loud voice.

If the show features mainly African Americans then of course it should be at a predominantly African American mall. Go to where your fans are…..duh?
This show is still on the air b/c it’s the highest rated Real Housewives season EVER. Atlanta beat out California and New York.
Everyone one says racism isn’t an issue anymore, but after comments like these…I mean who can really say?!?!?!?

The reason this show is horrendous has nothing to do with race and everything to do with class.
And Mr. Ho, could you please take a journalism class and quit writing like a breathless 9th grade girl?

EEEEW. NENE LOOKS LIKE A MAN AND DOES NOT HAVE THE RICHEST SHE CLAIM. NEITHER SHEREE OR KIM HAVE HUSBANDS OR A FIANCE’ SO HOW DO THEY QUALIFY AS HOUSEWIVES? NOT A HATER BY NO MEANS BUT AFTER THE ENTERTAINMENT I RECEIVE EACH TIME I WATCH IT MAKES ME THINK ABOUT WHAT SOME WILL DO FOR A FEW MINUTES OF SHAME AND FAME?????? TO THINK THEY ALL HAVE CHILDREN.

Nobody said anything about the women being”skanks’ because they’re black. Case closed.
A woman can be strong-willed, opinionated, but can have class…that’s a lady. A bitch is one with a bad attitude and lack of lady-like class.
When a woman claims “if a woman is strong-willed and African-American you call her a bitch” is a cop-out.
I love a good, strong, determined lady, but who would YOU marry-a nice lady or a bitch? Thought so. :)

We finally got a cast of black women on a show like this. I would think that the black community would be supportive. I could see if all the women were super ghetto, and behaving embarassingly on television, but their not. Ne Ne: keep being real girl. Love Ya! Lisa: I admire your devotion to your family and friends. Sheree: Good luck and many blessings to you and your clothing line. I think we need to support black television, and quit all the hating!!! Holla!

There like herpes, they keep poppin up. The ELITE of Atlanta would never be caught dead in that mall. Low budget hooker, that’s all these people are. None of them have a job, so they pimp there personal life for money. Whats next, selling sex? The scurge of the country. All live beyond there means. And none are inspirational to anybody with a 10 grade education. LOOSERS!!!

Why is Nene considered “REAL”? What does it mean to be “REAL”…? She is REAL…REAL IGNORANT. I don’t understand when any woman speaks with intelligence and diplomacy, she is NOT REAL, however, a loud, boisterous, head-moving, nostrils spreading, finger-waving individual is REAL…c’mon people…we can do better than that…

To NeNe Sheree Lisa and Kim we absolutely love you ladies and cannot wait to season 2.
It is about time Atlanta called on you all an used your CELEBRITY to get out in the public and meet your fans. The negative comments come from those that are confused and believe that the show is a dramatic series or? But it is REALITY TV. Many otherrality TV stars have risen from the original series and moved onto other shows endorsements and other opporutnities. NeNe I was at the birthday party you hosted last month. We waited and HIGHLY ANTICIPATED YOUR ARRIVAL! When you got there OMG it was bananas. You were so electric and the crowd of 500 or more had a blast.
I hope all of you continue to grow and prosper and gain popularity

This is not reality. PLease you look up to Sheree who does nothing but try and get money from her ex husband because she cannot and will not get a job! Her clothing line was a joke which is why there was no showing of clothes. NeNe is a transgender and Lisa’s kids are not allowed on the show because Kieith Sweat has a brain and will not allow his children to be represented in such a pathetic and classless way. DeShawn was the only true HOUSEWIFE and only real person on the show and what a surprise she is not asked back. She was the only person who truly represented Atlanta in the correct way. The rest are poor examples of what I would want my daughters to be with Kim and Sheree being the worst examples for young women to be.

Everytime a bitchy woman gets called on it, she repeats that tired line about ‘strong women being seen as bitchy.’
New flash to Sheree, strong women don’t have to be bitchy and lots of bitchy women aren’t strong. Sheree may be a strong woman - that didn’t come across in the show - but she certainly came across as a bitch. And that’s because she was rude to her friends, shallow when talking about her life, and condesending to the people around her. Sadly, she was also uneducated, which exacerbated the rudeness, shallow nature, and condesending attitude.

I love watching these trailer trash money hungry women on TV. Deshawn was not invited because she is boring. Face it, this show is about ratings and DeShawn isn’t a drama queen egotistical manic like the other ghetto fabulous women. I watch this show because these women are train wrecks.

I can’t wait for the new season to air in Sept or Oct. 09.
It was great to the husbands Greg Leakes and Ed Hartwell in full support of their wives. They took pictures and chatted with fans also. It was a great event!!!
There will be a new housewife to replace Deshawn Snow…but they didn’t say who. The speculation is that it will be Julius Irving’s smoking hot wife!

funny how any of these women would be nothing if they didnt marry and divorce wealthy people. It is crazy that they walk around like they are all that, but none of them earned a dime they flaunt. Show should be called welfare housewifes of atlanta
Has Nene said why if they have so much money they had to rent a house and then get booted out of the house, I dont think wealthy people rent homes.. In the court proceedings, Sherees attornys confirmed she lacks marketable skills to find employment, so she needs a handout from her ex Bob. These dont seem like rich people to me, maybe wanna be rich people

Why is this called Housewife of ATLANTA??? None of them living in ATLANTA…And they are the worst kind of representation. There is nothing Southern, Hospitable or Atlanta about any of them. It is a total embarrassment when family, friends and colleges from around the world see this lame ass representation. No disrespect to the ladies on the show I wish them all well but come on, they are not ATLANTA!

That mall is still there???? Shame, shame, shame on the AJC for giving this coverage. One question asked should have been: Is someone at the AJC getting kickbacks for CONSTANTLY giving coverage to this show? Oh, I see they didn’t accept a question about Nene’s eviction? And YES, that sure does look like a drag queen in the middle! Midtown Charlie Brown! Now, THAT’S someone who’s actually from Atlanta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

It makes me sick that these morons get this much attention when they go out in public. Women this stupid should not be representing our city on TV.
I have watched the other Housewifes shows (NY & Orange County). They are a guilty pleasure for my wife and I. The difference between the first two and the Atlanta housewifes is huge! You feel like you are just watching the NY and Orange County women go through their day. The Atlanta women are just trying so, so hard to show how rich they are and come off as just totally obnoxious.
As an Atlanta Hawks season ticket holder, I have never been more proud of a Hawks crowd as when they booed, with great lust, the white girl on the show (don’t know her name). I just wish the others could have been with her, too. They deserve to be booed out of whatever building they are in…

the show is a joke and how do you call yourselfs ATL Housewifes when Kim and Nene,Sheree are not even marriaged.i see why they were at south dekalb mall because its a fitting for them. Deshone didn’t get asked back buit yet she was the only one that didn’t show her ASS and she did try to do some good. as for Lisa she’s ridding on Ed’s money and she has none ,i see why Keith got out they’re all about trying to be about golddiggering someone out of there money.Bob Whitfield has given Sheree enough of money go and get a job and make your own instead o ftrying to always take the man to bank. Kim please no career ever, ever, ever in the music field. Lisa comes off like she is this person with goals and here she is on national tv showing her ignorant ass in front of her kids.don’t make me flip you over the couch Kim problerly would have kick her ASAS. Hey Y’all:
The heck with these women. What have these women done except marry a successful man and some are rtrying to pimp that man. THese are the type of women who need to get out and get a real job and if not, they need to be “pimp smacked.”
We should not glamourize these women to a point where we tell our sons and daughters this is what a real women looks like and does. That would be a travesty. We should tell our young sons and daughters to work hard, get an education, and prepare to take car of themselves and not live off of anyone. These are not “virtuous women”. Thsy are what they say they are: “DIVAS” and VAMPS”. ANother word you can use for them is “BLOODSUCKERS”. They only appeal to those who are exactly like them. Keep the course and raise your daughters well and not like these women.
God Bless. SELAH!

i am not sure why everyone takes what they see on tv so serious… its entertainment just like any other show… i am glad these girls are getting money. they should… they were one of the highest rated shows and we all know sheree is broke so she needed for sure so she can actually hire so me real designers and business people to help her out. lmao… had to get the one in there… but seriously as a native Atlantan i think this show is hilarious!!!

Faking it on t.v. is not real! It is not hating to expose facts of the characters on this show. As viewers of the show, people have the right to express their criticism. Hater is the most overated word of last century. If these women were truly Atlanta elite, they would have known better than to go to South Dekalb. They would have also known better to be on t.v. The difference between new money and old money is clearly portrayed on this show. But you cannot really say they have new money because for some of the casts, its not their money. I hope my sisters indeed look up to a real woman to call her real, or somebody with elegance and class to model and fashion themselves after.

It’s just tv. Some people take things to serious. It’s a shame that there are black people who are so negative about this show. I wish my people would have respect for each other. It was once a time we didn’t air our differences in public.

All this show does is further the race issues in this town. It glorifies the people who have caused most of the issues within our great nation. This show propgates disgusting societal behavior and furthers this pathetic notion of entitlement for being lazy, classless, undeducated and frankly pathetic. These people are horrific and its a shame really becuase Atlanta could be a great city if not for the rampant reverse racism and elitism created by this kind of crap. These people should be barred from the media and frankly from society as they add nothing of value to anyone’s life.

South Dekalb Mall, V-103, a crowd of 250 — all named “LaSomething” or “SomethingA”, most pregnant or have multiple children from different men, no father, cellphone attached to their head, 3 inch nails, unnatural hair color and style, and on and on…only in Atlanta….

This is really sad. To LOL & Whatelse: The truth is there are tons of educated, hardworking, decent African Americans in this city and that really irritates a lot of whites. Sorry but the days of the step and fetch Negro are over. To Lol what reverse racism are you talking about? Lazy? Please, folks in this town work. All black people are not ghetto just like all white people do not live in trailers. I really hope you change how you view people because one day you are going to stand before God and given an account of the things you have said. Remember Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. I will keep yall in my prayers

This show is horrific..and with our economy the way it is, it’s almost “economically insensitive..” There are millions of Americans out of work, out of homes, out of everyday necessity..I just couldn’t see wasting time on viewing a show such as this. As for haters..you have to be jealous to hate and these women are not even thoughts I would waste my time on..whether they are BLACK or WHITE..

**The fact is, this was supposed to be the “Housewives of Atlanta”. None of these women lived IN Atlanta (they were scattered amongst the burbs). Only one of these women were a married housewife, and she had what - 15 “staff” working for her??
They needed to cast the old “Buckhead Betty” types from West Paces Ferry as the main women for this, to be authentic. The OLD money. Toss in a successful black woman or two in the mix and it would have been more authentic. As it is, it’s nothing but a HUGE negative stereotype that makes the City look like even women with success and money are ghetto as all get out.**

A show about housewives of Atlanta should reflect Atlanta. This is ghetto at it’s best and is an embarrassment to those of us who are true housewives of Atlanta.

There is a reason they didn’t do this outing at Lenox Square or Phipps Plaza.

THERE’S ONE THING FOR CERTAIN THERE IS JUST AS MUCH DRAMA IN NEWYORK AND ORANGE COUNTY AMONG THE HOUSEWIVES TOO .Perhaps its so called ghetto to some none the less they are housewives and they live in Atlanta .Its really time that this certian group of females stop being silly and get over the fact that everytime AMERICANS are represented it’s always vanilla with a slice of sun on it .It’s people like the statement above that makes this show so great because you tune in just to find fault ,flaws and blame ,however keep it up you make their ratings just go through the roof so thanks for being a under cover drama queen .

MATT let me guess…you’re a single white male that is attracted to women on the Real Housewives of Orange County with their fake breasts! Hmmm… Lisa is definitely a beautiful woman and I’m sure Playboy would love to have her. But she does have class. And please get your facts straight, she does have a successful business and is quite driven. What makes these women any different from the “housewives” of the other shows? Oh yeah, they’re black so that automatically means ghetto! Yeah, those housewives of Orange County all had grown children by the age of 40 and have dead beat dads! Gimme a break. It ain’t just in the black community.
I can’t wait to see the new season. I love the show. It’s great entertainment. If you don’t like it, please don’t watch it.

Why are the TV producers bringing back this train wreck of a show?
Did anyone read where Lisa Wu Hartell is trying to get her sons back from their father Keith Sweat?
Of course if she gets custody she also wants “substantial child support.” Hell, even the judge questioned this woman’s priorities when it came to caring for her sons. She spent more money on herself than she did on taking care of her sons. That’s why Keith Sweat got primary custody.
Let’s be real here: The only reason she wants those boys back is for MONEY!! With primary custody, she can have them on that train wreck of a show and get paid more by the producers for having them on the show.
I hope whatever judge hears her petition will summarily reject it and keep primary custody with Keith Sweat. He is clearly the better parent.
The entire group gives true Black women, Black Wives, and Black mothers a bad name.

Some of you people on here are so RIDICULOUS!!! Why is it quality television when people are watching those crazy, plastic-looking, wrinkly, pill-popping, disfunctional women of Orange County but when they finally decide to put African American women in the series, people want to turn it into a ghetto hot mess??? Who cares if they don’t actually live in the city of Atlanta, as appose to the burbs! Who cares if NeNe is loud! Who cares of Sheree and Kim are actually married and aren’t considered housewives! Who cares if many of them are married to athletes and rich men! White women have been doing just that for YEARS!!! It’s reality TV people - so get a life! This show has obviously knocked OC and NYC off the charts, so they must be doing something right. These women are simply living their lives and before you sit and judge, take a moment and look around the room… 9 times out of 10 you’re probably in no position to turn your nose up at ANYONE. Bottom line, many of you still watch the show and the fact that you’re even commenting shows that it has your attention too!
I’m excited for Season 2 and will continue to watch this show no matter what because that’s what it’s about! Like any reality show, it’s eye candy, it’s entertainment and we all love it!

It was very nice to briefly talk to each of the ladies individually. Though we tend to be judgmental at times, this is the path that each ladies has chosen to take as far as being on the show. Therefore, in any situation let us pull something positive from it! As a woman, though not married, I’m a single parent. Each other these women went into their marriages with children from previous relationships. Which we often know at times blending a family together is one of many adjustments in a relationship, let along a marriage. Additionally, I feel each woman regardless of their character has tried to rebuild from whatever, there prior past. When at fault let’s continue to encourage one another and pull together, for the next generation of children & our Lord & Savior. We all know someone they may pose any of the ladies personalities, the good an bad.
I applaud the humbleness each lady exemplified during their Q & A. Of course we all like various forms of comedy & entertainment…at the end of the day it get’s you through the stressful times!
Their foundations are remarkable…
On an ending note! I’m laughing that I got caught on camera side view w/jean jacket with Lisa Wu-Hartwell. She is a very diverse person & we were actually talking about the meaning of my name(bright future/one who leads the way)…& taking the time as women to help one another, even if it’s just an encouraging word or thought of wisdom.
Take care & remain blessed! Nkeiruka
