Kanye and friends close night in high style

Local Kanye West fans should recall that the rapper-producer has been here a lot lately. There was his EarthLink Live gig, his performance at Centennial Olympic Park and his show at Philips Arena opening for Usher.

But Friday night’s closing performance at Vibe was the best of the four â€â€? a thrilling set that served as a deep collaboration wtih his two Vibe cover costars, Common and John Legend.

They fromed a formidable trio: Kanye, the cocky alpha with the sharp tongue; Common, the sensitive veteran rapper who paid lots of dues to get to where he is; and Legend, the fresh-faced musician who adds touches of class and soul.

The highlight came late in the set with the spotlight fixed on Kanye, as he perofrmed a track from his forthcoming album, “Late Registration.” If the rest of the record is anything like this cut, it’ll be every bit as good as his smash debut, “The College Dropout.”

Kanye, Common and John Legend, what a treat. It was worth the wait to see them last night. They were the best and what a combination. What GOOD MUSIC is doing is totally awesome. I loved every minute of it. They received the most response from the crowd, it was incredible.

I didn’t make it to the actual show… but the after party was definitely something to be talked about! Common & Kanye both came through to show love and respect (and to earn some). Both approachable on strictly on the humble, that made my night complete. G.O.O.D. music is something long overdue, but leave it to my man Kanye to do it big. College Dropout was a classic & between the work done on BE-Common’s joint and that new single Diamonds from Kanye it definitely stands to be a great summer of music and banging shows!!

Common was so good last night I wish I could run over to Music Midtown to see him again.

And Kanye never fails to produce so if that one cut he did off of his upcoming album is any indication of the album…it’s going to be hot!

Ya know…the show started out a little slow. Keyshia Cole (sp?) seemed as if she wanted to be somewhere else …doing something else (and she looked a hot mess too). The acoustics in the GA Dome are GREAT for a NFL game and an Easter Sunday service, but not so good for a concert. That being said… John Legend brought tears to my eyes he was so damn soulful …woo woo. Common made me wanna holla (so I did, I’ve got the raspy voice to prove it) .. Kanye was fantastic! I love his energy. At one point during the show, he said that they (he, common and legend) are making “good” music….”we wanna be the soundtrack of your lives”.
I say, Go ‘head, I’m listening!!!

Can’t wait to see LBoogie and T.I. !!!

Tiffany - can I ride with you over to see Common at MM? We can leave the car running and get back in time to see Lauryn!!!! hee hee

Teeheeee…John damn near made me cry too! But you guys are so right the 3 of them were well worth the wait!! Keyshia was a HOTT mess she could have at least did an outfit/hair change! She’s in the dirty and ought to know she needs to come correct!!

I have much faith in Kanye’s new album and GOOD MUSIC, the three of them together are surly going to do the dauymn thang.

Chi-town stand up! (& Detroit too for JL…its about dang time the Midwest has made their voice heard!!))

I am still feeling chills from John Legend’s SO HIGH. That man takes you on a journey when he sings …its just with so much soul, and his voice is so pure, just wow! Blew me away.

I heard Kanye earlier in the day on Hot 107.9 when he premiered a sample of the song he did at Vibe. I think the song was inspired by an old Ray Charles joint. I was cracking up (as usual) at his lyrics. He had mad energy on stage which got me caught up and dancing despite being tired.

Common’s new album BE is some of his best work and he was even better live. I am diggin him even more now!!

GOOD MUSIC indeed! I can’t wait to go back tonight!

Keendeezy - If there was a way to leave the Dome and be able to get back in on the same ticket stub I would do it.

The only reason I attended Vibe was because my friend was able to get a suite. I am not a fan of most of the people on the ticket last night, so I really went for the fellowship. And during the first part of the show, that is exactly what we did. I think we had more comedy in our suite than Tommy Davidson.

HOWEVER, when John Legend got on the stage every thing went silent. Everyone sat down and enjoyed the concert. That man has so much talent! I bought his CD when it first came out and it never really ‘stuck’ with me. But now I have a new appreciation for his music. I am forever a John Legend fan. But to have Kanye, Common and John on the stage at the same time was absolutely AWESOME! I mean they really put on a show! I loved it, and I’m really not a Kanye fan. Too bad it was so late in the evening - or rather it was after some subpar acts. Lyfe and 112 were the only other acts that made me look twice. And what was up with the teeny bopper act right? Those children should have been in bed by the time they performed, not on stage. Hopefully next year Vibe will reserve the no-name acts for 6:00.

Lauryn Hill….What the hell was that about???? She took her sweet time coming on stage, blasted her band and sound while performing, song 3 songs and recited an angry poem. The wig she was wearing appeared to bothering her during her entire act and she had a problem with scratching on stage. If this is not a clear case of “this is your brain on drugs” then I don’t know what is….somebody pray for her!!

What a way to close the show!!!! The show wasn’t over until 12!!! Kanye, Common and John Legend really did their thing!! They did all the hits and really showed the crowd some love.. It was the perfect way for an already amazing show to end.

I pray the real L boogie comes back in the near future. She is to talented to go out like that. I have been in love with Common for years I have all his cds even Electric Circus that is one intelligent sexy black man. For all you John legend fans check out his underground cd that he recorded live in NY before he came out it has about 4 songs that didnt make the cd but they are lovely as well. Its worth having in your collection check Earwax for your copy. Vibe has some work to do but it could be a great festival in another 5yrs or so.
