Sell Yourself (Legally!)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
So we covered some of the challenges we face in the wonderful world of dating. To wrap up the week’s list of challenges, let’s address the challenge in selling yourself to people. Everyone likes to think that their stock on the singles market is high, but you may find that you have to play up your good sides from time to time.
If you haven’t noticed before, Atlanta singles are hot, successful, and picky! This can be both a blessing and a curse. Blessing: plenty of eye candy, lots of options. Curse: plenty of eye candy and lots of options. It’s all about spin, ya’ll!
The challenge in selling yourself is that you don’t want to make it seem that you are polar opposite to what you actually are. A reader, “Sully” commented yesterday that often times people are only sending their “dating reps” when you first start dating. That happens because we don’t want to show the real, true, raw being - I mean, why would we? That would be social suicide!
Do you find it hard to sell yourself on the dating market? Are you careful about the way you present yourself to potential dates? Have you ever had someone misread what you “advertised” on a date?
How do you manage to turn heads with the opposite sex? Maybe we can learn a few pointers from the best of Atlanta’s singles! Think of it as a single person’s guide to advertising your dating goods, so to speak.
As a fun Friday exercise, imagine that you are an ad exec or a celebrity PR team. What creative and fun ad campaign, slogan, or commercial would you use to “sell yourself” uhh, legally of course!
I’ll start: I’m like Gillette, baby. The BEST a man can get. Yes, I know that’s not original but it’s the best one I could come up with! Your turn!

Ok…the one time I’m here early….the blog is not working…go figure Just kidding Wise!
On Topic
As far as selling one’s self….I think confidence wins it. There is confidence in the way I present myself (period). I don’t wear clothes that don’t fit my appropriately. I walk with confidence and I exude a positive vibe. When I’m in a funky mood I stay away from others and just chill. These things have worked well for me.

How do you manage to turn heads with the opposite sex? I dont know, but most men say I have a pretty confident walk and very sensual eyes that I play up with eye makeup. Overrall, I think its in my attitude, you know? I put out this self assured image of myself—even when I am feeling anything but- and most men are drawn to that.
As far as PR slogan…the only one I can think of is the Allstate commercial. I will change that to: “”You’re in good hands with Brooklyn.” LOL. Cheesy, I know.

Selling yourself is lot easier when the impediments to the process are low.
For the record let me state, that flaugging on the cell phone has seriously limited interactions between potential mates.
If it isn’t the man, it’s the woman more concerned with a conversation, than with the people around them. Even with a inviting smile, if you’re on the phone when I see you, I’m done. And on the occasions that the call is interuppted, it’s still not enough.
On this holiday weekend let’s all agree to try to be more accessible to the world.

I think we all manage to turn heads of the opposite sex is either they find us attractive, we’re smelling really nice, or we’re wearing something that caught their attention; they smile at us to keep from laughing; but they’re probably talking about us in their mind!

My PR Slogan would be:
“Me a Diamond, well maybe not the biggest but my sparkle is irresistible” “I’m in demand so Love me Now and Avoid the Rush”
I do have one that speaks to my resilience in the dating game also: “Timex takes a licking and keeps on ticking.”

Mo, now tired from “walkin it out”! thanks WD I can make it now!! LOL
What’s up Dan, somebody had to do it! :0)
Blog Moms What would you want your 18 month old child to call your baby’s father’s new wife? Anything but mommy (ma, mum, hey lady, hey you, etc). “mommy” is mine!
On topic: How do you manage to turn heads with the opposite sex? I have been told I have a nice smile so that seems to get me a lot of attention, genuinely. LOL
My motto: Like Mastercard, I’m PRICELESS!! Corny I know, but all I could think of. Maybe once I really get it together I’ll think of something better! LOL

I just be me when I’m out. As i’ve gotten older I really don’t find any reason to be anyone other than me. Just like on my Myspace page…It says, I can’t be no other, I can only be Me. So i think guys are attracted to my look and the fact that I appear to be down-to-earth and loves to laugh. I think men are turned on or take notice to women who are having fun. Who wants to talk to the chick sitting in the corner of the bar/club/restaurant etc looking like someone farted in her face? Ewwww!
So I can’t say I do too much sales pitches trying to get folks to sign up with Slim. Either we connect or we don’t. But what surprises me is when you tell a dude in the nicest way possible that you don’t find yourself interested in them, why they insist on giving you their number anyway. DELETE DELETE DELETE. lol

I don’t really believe in marketing much, don’t feel like I have to. For me, what you see is what you get.
But if I had to choose a slogan: ” I can’t believe it’s not bul…..”

Good Afternoon Er’body. Whats up SlimOne, MO, QC, IslandGirl, Ladylike, etc.
Slogan Aint Nobody Like Me Baby, I’m My Competition
How do you manage to turn heads with the opposite sex? well since my mom and pops had a great night the night they conceived me, i normally turn heads from the opposite sex just by my appearance…remember i do sport a mean azz goatee, lol. but i also exude a lot of confidence and the attitude that i dont need you, there’s 100 of you out there, and just one me! like i said, aint nobody like me baby, im my competition! im not cocky, im just feelin myself!

Good afternoon everyone. As IslandGirl and Brooklyn stated, it’s all about the “confidence” factor. This is attractive to both genders. Don’t get confidence mixed up with conceit. Confidence exudes a comfortable aura whereas conceit is simply annoying.

@Sexyleggs Great name.
While stating that each woman views things differently, what’s your answer on the difference between confidence and conceit.
I’ve been called both, but I feel like it’s not conceit if, by measurable means, what you feel is true.

These DL Dudes Need To Cool Out aka Gorilla O im not cocky, im just feelin myself Hey there. Just a little fyi, you have to be careful when you start feelin yourself because strange things happen…noises get made, senses get heighten, and next thing you know, there’s a clean up on aisle 5. lol

Thanks Dan. To me, conceit is a palpable arrogance. When a compliment is given and a thank-you doesn’t come next. Instead, you might get I know, or “but of course.” Conceit is walking, thinking, voicing and believing “you’re the cat’s meow” when in fact you’re “the dog’s howl” on a daily basis. Confidence is in fact a belief in one’s self, yet a warmth exudes from a person that is genuine, honest and you can put a person before yourself.

IslandGirl, im having a problem with these DL cats indirectly. last night i was asked if i was on the DL. not because i look like i got sugar in my tank or i made a suspicious gesture, but just because there’s so many of them out here, she just wanted to know. ive been asked this question on a couple of occasions. at first i got real offended, then i thought about how many ‘curious’ men their are out here, and i really couldnt blame a woman for asking. well now im back to being offended/p** the fugg off. not at women who want to know, but the clowns that are on the DL. i mean, if you want to putt from the ruff, thats on you. but be consistent. if you like women, date women. if you like men, date men. but dont have your girl, or even worse your wife thinking its all about her, when its really about your homeboy ralph! now your exposing her to diseases and that shyt aint right! hell sleeping with another man aint right. what the hell yall look like talkin bout yea dog, just like that, and that ninja’s size 13 feet in the air. but if thats what yall want to do, then by all means knock yourself out (literally and figuratively). just be up front with your lady and tell her your somewhat gay, and let her decide if she wants to stay with you, dont decide for her because you’re too much of a punk (no pun intended) to keep it real! just had to get some ish off my chest.
SlimOne, i almost fell out my chair when i read that. you off tha chain!
Thanks MO. now i would love to exchange compliments, but yours was kind of whack, lol. just playin, i know your priceless.

From my perspective and awareness, I’ve always presented myself simply as myself, without specific marketing. I figure people will come to see who and what I really am sooner or later, better to be sooner. I suppose my sales pitch would be something along the lines of 100% real, genuine, all natural ingredients, something like that.
