Stripping away misconceptions?

Prior to the BET awards, The AJC ran an article in its Living section asking Atlanta celebs where to eat, shop, and live it up as hip-hop’s best flooded the city.

Jermaine Dupri was not the only advocate of strip clubs in the story, but the content of his quote jumped out at me:

“If you’re a male and you’re single — [adult entertainment club] Magic City. You’ve got to go there. Experience that. Even if you’re a woman, I think you should experience the strip-club life. I think there’s a misconception on the woman’s part of what happens in a strip club. Women believe we’re in there with the girls in our laps or something. Our strip clubs are more like nightclubs. [Girlfriend] Janet [Jackson] has been there with me. Plenty of times.”

Women, do you date men who go to strip clubs? If so, do you attend as well? Is there a difference between someone who’s not dating anyone at all, someone who’s in a committed relationship, and someone who’s married going out for adult entertainment?

Men, if you go to strip clubs, do you take your women with you? Have you found women to be accepting of these types of activities? Have you ever dated a woman who was not OK with this?

Does seeking out adult entertainment reflect on the quality of your dating life, or is it simply an activity one participates in, such as soccer or cooking? Do you think going out on such outings is becoming less and less taboo as our dating culture evolves?

I can’t wait to go to the strip club for the first time! Georgia is so famous for them. One of our favorite bloggers has volunteered to take me. lol. You know who you are!

Morning all!

Hey, why don’t we all go to Ruth’s Chris Steak House and buy the best steak and get the best wine - and just look at it and throw dollar bills at it - but not touch it!

Sounds great, doesn’t it?

Mornin….

strip clubs are the shyt! and just as JD stated, ATL strip clubs are like clubs;

for ladies with dudes that like to partake…..”who cares where he builds his apetite, as long as he comes home for dinner!”

As someone that has hit every male oriented strip club in the A (even the defunct Gold Club) the first time I went to a club was for fun and to be able to say I went.

As time went on and I wasn’t spending refund checks, but my own money. The “D” realized that having my own woman dance for me was hotter.

I have been to strip clubs with women, and they generally enjoy it more than they think they will on arrival.

But a woman that minds my bachelor party attendance at a strip club (even when there isn’t one), tells me more about her insecurities than anything else.

strip clubs hold no real interest for me…i am neither for nor against them…

coach has no special affection for strip clubs so its not an issue at my house…

if he wants to go…then i’m not going to object…to me, it’s not much different than hanging out at a sports bar…there are just naked women there dancing…besides, with the way a LOT of hoochies, er, um i meant, upstanding young women, dress in the clubs these days…they might was well be naked…

I guess all the freaks & undercovers are lurking until the coast is clear

Yes, i’ve dated men that go to strip clubs. Yes I’ve tagged along as well. I personally have never had a problem with a SO going to these places as long as it is not interferring with the naturl flow of things…such as spending excessively while in there, or engaging in “No Sex in the Champagne Room” activities. As far as these sort of things being less taboo, I have no clue. I guess we’ll see as the blog progresses throughout the day. Either way it goes, it will totally depend on each individual as with anything else in life. Some women get offended when their guy watches porn or gets upset to find them jerking the chicken in the middle of the night. Go figure!

LOL @ binfords comment.

Well surprise, surprise, AmazonRed has never been to a strip club. I would have no problems going once, to see how it is, or going with my man if he asked me. But most of the men I’ve seemed to date weren’t really into that type of thing.

I’d rather my fella want me to dance for him then have to go somewhere where his needs are unfulfilled. Many men say women shouldn’t be threatened by their man going to the strip club because there is less likely to be a “happy ending” there than in real life. I believe that.

Personally I am not big on strippers. I do however want to do the pole dancing classes. My husband has gone to strip clubs and it doesn’t bother me. My only rule is wash completely before touching me. I think that is fair enough. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going with him. As far as him serviccing himself, if we aren’t around each other for awhile or its my sucky time then thats fine. But if there is nothing going on with me and we are together in the same house then it hurts my feelings. And dont let it happen right before I want to have fun because then I am p**.

JM From what i’ve heard from dudes, its nothing to be taken personally when they self-induce pleasure regardless if you’re there or not. However, I can see how that would make you feel a little betrayed if you were under the same roof, ready and willing. I look at it as I’d rather him hit up Misses Palmer every now and then than mess with Chaqueeta down the street. Also, Foots goes to poletaze, a pole dancing class. Maybe she can give you the info so you can check it out. The gym I go to has a Desperate HOTwives class every Friday. So even though i’m currently single, it doesn’t hurt to perfect some moves for my next SO-to-be. muuah ha ha ha

Good morning everyone. Yes, I’ve been to a few strip clubs. They’re fun. The women actually like seeing other women in attendance. I have no problem giving someone their “props.” If you have skills, you have skills! I do not mind if my SO went to a strip club within reason.

I enjoy going to strip clubs because I can openly enjoy the naked female form. And the feminine form is a beautiful creation.

Morning all,

I’ve been to all of them here with my husband. We used to make it like a date night with another couple we would go out with. Just to do something different. They’re like 41/42 yrs old with their kids out the house, so they were def game for something different. It’s usually fun to go with a group. I mean we’ve gone to one with his boss and his wife (white and she’s Filipino)a couple of times. We haven’t went in a year or two. I think we just got tired of going. The ones in New Orleans are better IMO. More “stunts”. The thing I don’t like is I get hit on like no other by women. I guess they think if you’re there, you may be “open”.

Good Morning All,

I have outgrown the club scene I started going to clubs as a teen. Shout out to everyone who went to Sharon’s and Sharon’s Showcase.

I have attended the strip clubs in the past mostly the Black Chippendales at Mirage. That was a monthly outing with some of my coworkers and friends. My girlfriends and I went to Guys and Dolls(many moons ago)and I remember hanging in the parking lot at 20 infront of Jazzy T’s because we couldnt get in. So for me it is kind of a been there-done that sort of thing. Not sure I would go to a strip club now. Not keen on the idea of looking at some ladies boob..I have my own. But I wouldnt knock my SO for going to the strip club or looking at porn.

Back home in NY my girls and I went to Sue’s Rendevous. Now it is not as popular for ladies to go in NY as it is here. But the fun was watching men trying to figure out whether we were straight or not. They bought bottles for us and everything as they tried to wriggle the preference out of us. They were relieved to know that we were strictly d*ckly!

Now when my girls come here to visit I take them because that is were most of the straight men are in ATL. I don’t think a gay man will pay money to go to a female strip club unless is he is really on the DL and trying to hide it. But I have taken my SO’s to the strip clubs here for b-days, gave him the money to tip the girls, bought drinks and then took him home, cuffed him to the chair, donned a wig and some stilettos and gave him a real lap dance/strip tease. But I guess you can’t really call it a tease if he gets the puddy afterwards huh?

I like the strip clubs…I can learn some tricks! (lol) Foots I promise you one of theses days I am going to class with you girl! I willgive a dancer her props if she is doing her thang on the pole and make me say, “how she do that”?

I don’t think you should be going to strip clubs to spend my tax dollars with your welfare check.

I don’t think you should be going to strip clubs if you have children you should be supporting and sending to college.

I don’t think you should be going to strip clubs if you don’t know how to speak and read English properly.

I don’t think you should be going to a strip club if you haven’t spent equal time in a church or a library.

And PS- Janet needs to dump that monkey man and reclaim her dignity!

Strip clubs are for losers!!! If you’re beyond a certain age (late 20s), and attached/married, you have no business up in some other womans “goodies”. That’s some mess for the single and immature. So, NO, I wouldn’t date (let alone marry) some dude who’s caught up in all of that………it’s actually quite a turn off for me!! And HELLZ NO, I wouldn’t be up in there trying to see some other womans “goodies”, that’s for the bi-curious/already bi woman. No straight woman wants to see t** and azz, she can look in the mirror for that. And lastly, HELL NO to the third power on spending my hard earned money on some woman, what the fvck is that about?!!!! That’s money that should be spent on family/household/kids/kids future!!!!! And any man who spends money on some naked/partially naked azz is a fool!!! But what is hilarious, is the dudes who do this, and then complain when his woman (notice I said HIS woman)needs help with a bill!!!! LOSERS!!!!! And just for the record, I’ve been in one or two in my younger days, so I know what I’m talking about. And no, I’m not bi or bi-curious, I was actually considering dancing for a while to get out of serious debt, but once I saw it for myself, I was turned completely away from that scene. Thank God!!!!

    Good morning!

As a youngster, I was a regular at the strip clubs in Atlanta. Now, I just can’t see myself giving my money away. I’ve dated women who didn’t care that I went and actually enjoyed going themselves and I’ve dated those who thought it was a sign that they were doing something wrong at home. As long as the communication and trust is good in the relationship, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Foots busts down the blog door, fresh from Level 5 graduation ceremonies at PoleLaTeaz…

I heard y’all were in here talking about strip clubs!?!?! LOL!

It’s kind of odd, but I haven’t been to a strip club myself. I do plan to go one day soon, so that I can see what they do so I can add to my repertoire. I’m cool with giving another woman props for her hair, clothes, shoes, or her moves; we learn how to affirm each other in class. I like to cheer for my classmates as they do their thang and I’m nowhere near bi. Bodies are beautiful and I love how they move, I guess that’s why I’m drawn to all forms of dance.

No, I wouldn’t date a guy who went to the strip club every weekend, the same way I wouldn’t date a guy who went to the regular club every weekend. Dude would have to find some other way to be entertained weekly.

But I don’t have a problem with him going occasionally, like when a good friend comes to town, somebody’s birthday, bachelor parties, etc. It’s a fantasy for them. And it’s also a great thing for him because when he gets home and tells me all about it, I can provide him with Fantasy Land 2.0.

Beautiful I’m thinkin’ a class can also make you feel more comfortable with your body and boost confidence.

Yeah, it really does. I thought I was comfortable with myself a year ago, and I was, but the improvement is easy to see. Sometimes, folks catch me walking like I’m on a runway! I think that any dance class will do that though. Any time you are in a situation of your choosing where you make yourself vulnerable as you’re learning (and looking crazy) but you also have that supportive circle around you telling you that you can do it, you’re bound to build confidence.

Not to mention the physical benefits and body shaping. I didn’t lose weight, but I gained about 10 lbs of muscle over the past year. I have “guns” now and thighs that can crack a back! And it doesn’t hurt that in addition to my list of degrees, good credit, community involvement, etc, I can also throw in there “and I can slide down a pole upside down and backwards with no hands and one leg”. Nothing quite like that! LOL!!

Hey Party People!! How is errbody doing?

I have been to the strip club with my man and with a group of friends, no big deal. I wouldnt want a man that is a regular but I have no problem with it! Let him go and get a lil visual before he comes home to what he can touch and play with! I have also danced for my man a time or two and I think its fun! I enjoy and he enjoy(ed) it so it was a win/win situation.

When asked why go to a strip club? A potnah of mine had a classic response, he said: Why go to regular club and watch women dance with their clothes on and imagine what they look like naked, when you could go to a strip club and don’t have to use your imagination.

2CPTG, I certainly wouldn’t tell anyone how to blow… er, spend their own money. Just the same, I consider my assessment of what a tittie bar is and those who patronize them to be accurate. It’s not as if I’ve never been in them, how else would I know?

‘Course, you won’t catch me in a nightclub of any kind unless I’m being paid to play, and even then… I don’t do clubs. They’re a waste.

Foots, you are absolutely right. I all ready have a very strong walk (done some modeling). People say I walk like I own the street. Taking dance classes improves everything, your walk, your sensuality, your gracefulness, etc. I have patted myself on the back many nights with my dance performance. Yes, I dance for myself since I don’t have anyone to presently dance for. Some nights I say “damn girl, that was tight,” then fall out laughing.

Alvin “it’s fun going with my lesbians home girls.” They recently opened this strip club Tootsies in Miami. It was a former Sam’s Club. The place is huge. Saturday night I was in there with five beautiful, Clydesdale legs and thighs, dymepieces. Needless to say, our table got a lot of attention. Playas were sending drinks over just to let it be known that they acknowledged and recognized our flavor. I would inquire with our server who sent them. Make eye contact with the buyer and exchange head nods of mutual respect. We had a good time that night.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

I don’t care where or how someone spends their cash however I have a few opinions.

First, I used to work in one as a DJ. What a crappy gig. Too much booze and dope. Almost all the girls are strung out.

Second, No matter what you’ve heard hooking does go on at every club.

Third, When I was 28 years old I married a Cheetah girl. That was the biggest mistake of my life!!!!!!!

That being said I probably go to a strip club once a year, usually after a concert or sporting event. As long as you realize it’s just entertainment you’ll be fine and have a good time. It’s the wackos that spend every night and every dollar they earn. Those are the people who creep me out.

Actually, strip joints played out with me a long time ago. I may go every blue moon to get a drink with a potnah or whatever, but often times I’m watching the game or some sporting event on TV more than the girls. If I see one that’s so outstanding I want her to dance, I’ll pull her. But I don’t need her sitting on my lap or dancing with her azz two inches from my face. When I was in my early twenties my potnahs and I would hit that scene hard. We all had lucrative hustles. For us, it was a competition. Most go to watch them dance. Our goal was to get them to go in the back, get dressed, come out with their little suitcase on wheels with the handle (that all dancers come to work with) and leave with us. We would break the house man off and let him know they were leaving and it was a wrap. That was a different time and I was a different man. Now, I make it rain at home.

I have never been inside of a strip club while the ladies were dancing. I went once to help my friend get a job. As for my man, he has gone, but not with me. I do not get into him looking at another woman naked. So he had to stop going. I on the other hand has attempted to take up some lessons on how to strip. Obviously men are very visual creatures and I do not want to stiple his visual, but he can only be VISUAL with me, if you know what I mean.

Alvin, did I feel like a loser while being a patron at tittie bars? Well, yeah! I was on the road, I’d tag along with other guys just for something to do. I’d wind up talking to the dancers, imagine that… they are actually thinking, feeling people inside those t** and azz. Demeaning themselves for a buck, because believe it, they’re not doing it because they like it. Now, there might be some dancers on documentaries on HBO that seem to think it’s an art form or something, but it isn’t. It’s not art, it’s not tasteful, it’s not beguiling. It’s a dayum tittie bar.

Rell, yeah, I’d turn down the strange. I’m not casual about things like that. The strange would have to become familiar and prove desireable in ways other than only being some T&A walkin round, for starters.

Yes, we all know that Georgia is in the heart of the Bible Belt of America. Atlanta as the capital sits directly in the center of government here. However nude dancing is not a new concept. There were strippers(Fan dancers) long before Mom and apple pie. But if it helps you feel better. I can assure you that Atlanta is a long way from ever becoming the Vegas of the South. While I think there are somethings that are somethings that are corrupting our moral fiber(under age prostitution, perverts who pray on children.) I absolutely see nothing wrong with a adult woman,(over the age of 21) pole dancing. If this is her only skill set then you have to do what you have to do.

I am sure there is prostitution in the clubs, but as proven by the Sugarloaf madam there is prostituition everywhere. So to suggest that pole dancing and strip clubs are limited to the “ghetto” and are ghetto behavior is idiotic.

Rell-Swangin D, a LADY has self-respect & wouldn’t parade her goodies in front of strangers. But, I guess if you don’t have a brain, you’re limited in ways to earn a living…Strippers are just bodies, NOT real people with feelings etc. They’re completely hardened & just serve a purpose. To please men’s baser instincts

WOW Jo, I can understand you not condoning STRIPPING but STRIPPERS are people too and nobody deserves to be used and thrown away.

I’ve been to strip clubs with friends and with SO’s…I don’t have a problem with it. I wouldn’t have a problem with my man going without me, however all things in moderation. It couldn’t be an every weekend type situation, but as someone stated earlier, if his friends came into town, birthday, bachelor party, etc. I’m cool with it. It’s all about personal preference…if it’s not your thing cool, but to knock others for their preference isn’t right. I’m so glad my ultimate fate isn’t in the hands of some of you posters…I’d be hellbound for sure.

Rell call me slow, but I just have to know…what does smh or smdh stand for? I’ve seen you post that before…just curious

Jo “Strippers are just trash & only good to be used & thrown away”

That’s a broad generalization. Only an idiot would paint all members of a particular profession with the same brush. I have met some that your statement accurately describes. However, I have met others that were caring mothers, good students and outside of their job, honorable women. They chose that avenue as a means to an end. In a strange way, I equate girls that dance to men that sell dope. They both make fast money, but they have to sacrifice a portion of their morality to do it.

There certainly is something wrong with pole dancing, prostitution, etc. I wonder what folks would do if selling their bodies were no longer profitable. While it’s not my place to judge people’s station in life, many strippers and hoochies would do something different and better with their life if they felt they could.

Part of the reason I’ve never been to a strip club is because I don’t believe in spending money to support such activities. While I would at least go once to see what it’s all about, I couldn’t see myself really being serious with any man who frequented such club and perpetuated that type of culture.

reality do i think that stripclubs are the reason for the demoralizing behavior perpetrated in society in general?? heres my resounding NO. everything, everything has its place… and people have the right to choose. not only what they participate in, but what they talk about as well and what they view as entertainment.

choice is the most basic and primitive human component. it was what adam and eve had, and that wasnt over a stripclub.

everyone on this blog has not denied that the stripclub scene can get out of hand, but isnt that the case with most everything??

come’on bruh, go about saving the world in a different way… but then again its your choice… imma respect that.

did you ever consider that this forum is not the only one out there? that other subjects, topics and concerns are being discussed. that the filth, as you put it, is being ‘promoted’ in far less degrees than what else might suit your fancy. there are at best 20 ppl on this blog regularly. you cannot possibly believe that they represent the moral fiber for all of atlanta or in the nation. be smart. sit back and laugh at the jokes, or keep it movin.

JO think about this baby-girl, it wasnt too far gone that we werent getting paid to do the same thing followed by a malicious prounce. so now you got something to say when we making money and takin care of babies and getting an education?? puleeze.

and i say ‘we’ cause apparently if one woman is doing it all of us must be in on it.

What up Blog Said while trying to download the small business form so that I can open an Amateur dancing / Model walk / Dominatrix consulting firm. With Sexy Leggs, Foots, Beautiful, Amazon Red, and Staceye as my first clients.

At WD Actually Reality spit some real serious news that I am proud of. According to him.

    • 2 out of 3 African American men have homes

    • Almost 70 percent of All black men born today will NOT go to prison

    • And out of about 36.4 million African Americans only 360,000 will go to jail.

    • Of all HBCU’s (118) of them 37% are made up of African American Males.

    • While only 3% will land in Jail.

Man That Reality has made my day.

On topic yes I go to Strip Clubs. And I have been to them with females.

My first time inviting a Female to the strip club was eventful. I was out with the bruhs and a lady friend of mine called to see what was up. I told her to meet me at the club (Jazzy T’s) She comes in with a girlfriend of hers, we are standing up by the bar, and she and her girl get a seat by the back wall. So I send over some drinks, and we are just chilling and drinking. One dancer came in and I kind of knew from just hanging out. So when she got in to costume, she gave me some extra attention, and started flirting. Finally after some time the girls were able to get a couple of chairs at the bar, next to us. So I am chilling when the dancer cam over with another dancer and stated dancing on me. The “friend” in front bent over and started to work hard for the money. I am all teeth and smiles until I felt a punch in the middle of my chest. I wasted Hennessy all over the dancers back. What was so wild is that it seemed that everyone saw it as my lady friend stormed out of the club. The bartender fixed me another drink on the house the DJ shouted me out. What memories. More true stories to come.

If you are this insecure about him going to a strip club. Then guess what? Hire a lawyer-Ring up Judge Mabelline-because it will not be Tiffany-the-Terrific that takes him away..it will be you that will drive him away. Might as well hand him 20 singles on the way out the door. Why? Because contrary to popular belief your mate does not need to look you in the face 24/7. He does not need to breathe the same breath you breathe 365. Everyone needs a away time with the boys or girls to just relax. You say why? I say why not? That scene stood out to me because you don’t see that type of female deference to men any more - at least not in the black community. Black women have succeeded in emasculating the image of the black man to the point where the line between the sex roles have blurred. The meaning behind that needs no elaboration.

I have a running theme I tell quite a few young people. “A empty head will get you nowhere but the pole.” However, “there is nothing new under the sun.” As I said before if this is the skill set they have. If they are happy doing it then so be it. If not then, strive for better and change it. Can you go from the pole to the board room? I don’t see why not. No one is a throw away. black women don’t emasculate black men. There are just black men who have a distorted perception on what it means to be submitted to, and when they are truly worthy of being held in high regard. It doesn’t stop at DNA. Real men don’t need to wield abuse and anger or control to get respect.
