Attention all football fans: Score with Me

And by me, I mean author and comedian Amy Borkowsky. The Manhattan-based woman aims to raise $3 million to run a commercial advertisement for Mr. Right. As of Tuesday, she raised nearly $4,000 on her fantastically pink and aptly named website: Superbowlsinglegirl.com.

Only $3.6 million to go to find true love…because beer-slinging, wing-eating, football-lovin’ men are surely looking for a new wife whilst watching titans collide.

img_60941-225x300.jpg

And by the way, Borkowsky said if doesn’t reach her goal she will donate the money to charity.

We chatted awhile back about advertising for a mate through word of mouth. You know, telling your girlfriends and their mothers to keep an eye out for you. Since then, my friend showed me the hilarious venue of the single ads on Comcast, clearly a conglomerate of the drunkest most desperate folk in the region.

What’s the most daring thing you’ve done to get a date? Have you or someone you know participated in Comcast ads or anything more public than dating websites? And do you think Borkowsky really hopes to win a man, or simple media attention from folks like me?

BTW - Blanca is taking her first vacation of the year today through Friday, so Ms. Wise Diva will be moderating the conversations. Have a great week everyone!

Good Morning All,

What’s the most daring thing you’ve done to get a date?

Can’t think of a doggone thang. I am a pretty traditional dater. I have particpated in the online dating..wouldn’t call it daring as it is pretty common place.

Have you or someone you know participated in Comcast ads or anything more public than dating websites?

Nope.

And do you think Borkowsky really hopes to win a man, or simple media attention from folks like me?

Media Attention.

Most daring?? Agreed to go out with the son of one of my mother’s friends.

That went badly. Not because the guy and I didn’t mesh, but because we didn’t mesh and I turned him down when he called for another date, his mother got all perturbed and flustered at my mom and said that her daughter was acting all pretentious, which I wasn’t, and wouldn’t give her son a chance. Do you think I dared to try that again??? Heck no!!!

Good morning Folks, I’ve never done anything daring to get a date outside of going online, for some that could be considered daring, but I see it as the norm these days. I’ve seen the Comcast dating ad which I found very entertaining LOL…As for Borokwsky, this could be a media attention stunt.

Good morning, everyone!

The most daring thing I did in terms of dating was go to an online dating service a few months back. Although I got a gazillion of hits, I found it to be a waste of my time. Quickly removed my profile and opted to continue with the traditional mode of dating. Meeting a person in person!

No, I don’t think she’ll find a husband this way, nor do I think she’ll give ALL the $$ to charity.

No, I have never done anything daring ( or desperate) to get a date…or to meet someone…I have some fundamental problems with a person going to the extremes of this woman to find an SO…maybe it will work…maybe not…but it just seems more pathetic than not to advertise how desperate she appears to be in finding someone for a relationship…that seems more sad to me than anything.

Morning Blog Fam

Raqi - Had a similiar experience, but this was a play aunt(mom’s best friend) who set me up with a coworker of hers. They worked at the old GM plant. She went on and on about him and said he had “nice” hair and drove a BMW - which perturbed me because she’s known me since birth and knew I would not be impressed by such things! Well, I agreed to a lunch date - so if things did not go well, hey I gotta get back to work! How about he rolled up in an old beat-up Trans Am that had mud all on the sides and tires - looked like it had been pulled up from the bottom of Lake Lanier! But the craziest thing was - it had what appeared to be a BULLET HOLE through the windsheild! We had zero in common - he was bragging about loving the time he had at Freaknic! He also had the Napoleon complex - kept going on and on about how TALL I was (I barely make 5’5” in flats), and yes he was shorter than me, but I did not hold that against him.

Needless to say I did not agree on another date. My play aunt was crushed and every now and then she would give me little updates on what he was doing over the years, including getting married and having kids. Good for him!

The most daring thing I did was contact a guy that was running for city council years ago for a date. He was an attorney and single. He was passing out flyers and shaking hands and I thought he was so attractive. I found out where his law office was and sent him a valentine and my phone number. He remembered me, called me and we met for lunch. The chemistry was incredible! We dated for about a month and then I found out he had a fiance in Texas that was moving to ATL that summer. We remained phone friends for a little while, but I cut off the dating. Didn’t want no bad karma coming back to bite me!

@Leggs

I am with you…I prefer the person to person way of meeting someone…I have never really been fond of dating services or internet sites as a means of meeting ppl…I will admit that I did the eHarmony profile because an acquaintance told me how accurately is described his personality type, etc…so I did that part of it just to see how well it matched up with me…not bad, but it is not any different than other psychologically based test designed to pinpoint the more inner nuances of personality traits…but I have no interest in joining the site…besides, meeting men is not the problem…I have plenty of men approach me everyday…not being interested in the option is the problem…just ain’t making my baby kick…so much emphasis is placed on meeting a person, so many expectations, so much bs…not a priority for me at this point…if it happens fine, if not fine.

yah boy tried innanet dating…man oh man, it was a trip. first of all, you get these old azz pictures cause when you met the chick she don’t look nothing like that picture. in the old azz picture you was 20lbs slimer, looked young, etc.

they tell you they this and that and in “real” life they aint shyte.

they say they got either no kids or just one, later find out she got a mini daycare, cause she got so many daynum kids. or they got several crazy azz sperm donors.

that silly woman just looking for media attention, she wanna be reality tv star. smh

i keeps it all the way live, what you read, see is what you get. no false advertising or self promotion..just 100% yah boy, t-lo

i likes to met face to face cause if we both like what we see in prime time and the vibe is good…skys the limit. on the real.

M’karyl I agree with you, I dont play cupid and I prefer no one play cupid for me! I will introduce people but not as a set up, more of a we all happen to be in the same place at the same time type deal.

Now mom did ‘introduce’ me to one of her friends son back in the day, can we say horrible!! He was a cool person but definitely not my type. We talked for a moment and then that was it. I havent seen or heard from him since

Our not meshing had nothing to do with his appearance, his material possession or lack thereof, nor his verbal overcompensation but he didn’t do that. He had all to do with after a couple of hours of spending time together we had nothing in common. Now I am not the type of person to believe a couple must have all things in common in order for the relationship to work, but I do believe you have to share some common interest. And he and I seemed to not have one other than the necessity to breath, eat and poop to live. Nothing.

I guess he didn’t feel the same way that I did, but after explaining my position to him he seemed fine with it. I guess his mother must have asked him how it went since she arranged the whole thing. She was not happy, therefore dumping it all onto my mother.

Off Topic I think I want to get a gun and learn to shoot. I have been debating it because I worried my son would find it when he was younger, or that I would be so nervous that I might shoot myself with it. But now I think I want one. Truth/Fellows What would recommend?

Yeah Mkaryl I stop accepting set-ups from my friends after one introduced me to this rather oddball doctor and another ended up going out with the guy she tried to match me with. Imagine talking to someone on the phone, agreeing to a date, and then having him back-out just to find out he reneged because he accepted a date from the one who tried to put us together in the first place. That’s all it took for me.

I know most people who tried to match me with someone had my and the guy’s best interest at heart but it just never happened.

It just seems to me that these folks with good intentions to set up a date, meeting, etc. do not really know the tacit nuances of attraction for another person…my emotional temperment when I am involved with someone is somewhat different from what it is when there is no emotionally based relationship…also, I find that ppl tend to look at the superficial attributes and the subjective ones…I had this dude I met at Twain’s who kept wanting me to meet a friend of his…he was like, well I think you are cool and he is cool too…all we had in common is that we were both black and that ole dude thought we were both cool…lol…when I finally had the misfortune of meeting this cat…it was like yeah right…he coulnd not even speak a decent sentence in articulated English , it took all I had to stifle a laugh in his face…of course, a imbibing in a few beverages did not make it any better…but, each tme someone has insisted on introducing me to a dude, it is like WTF!!! makes you thing we would be a good match…what all we need are the male/female parts????

Good Morning All

I have not gone to any extremes to date because meeting men has never been a problem. However, I can relate to those that have stated they are just not meeting a lot of men that they have things in common with or find very interesting.

I have recently expressed interest to a few people in the possibility of being set up with someone but after reading you guys today, I will probably retract that statement to all of them today! lol

7:21am - Why does my vanity counter have dark burgundy nailpolish and soiled cottonballs strolled all over it? The night before i asked the child to take the polish, and cottonballs into my bathroom. hmmmm I needed to do a lil mo’ investigating.

Later on…

Does anyone else dentist call them asking if you’d like to come in the office and get your teeth whiten for a holiday treat for yourself? Right now i’m not sure if his dental assitant is bored, or he thinks my teeth look like death and it’s time for a treatment!?! More on that story, tonight at 5

Good morning.

Ladies, I would highly recommend the minimum gun to get would be a 9mm. It has more rounds than most guns because of bullet size and magazine and will do a fair job of stopping a man. He’ll fall down when shot but not by the force of the bullet but from the shock of actually being shot.

It also has very low recoil (Kick) and doen’t sound too loud.

The down side is we are talking about using deadly force and for that more is better, to a poiint. A .45 will physically take a dude off his feet and if he’s hit anywhere near center of mass (the body/chest area) he ‘s probably going to die, which is the desired result in these critical times. Dead men don’t shoot back.

The drawback is less rounds in the magazine (larger bullets) and more kick.

With any gun the formula is simple;

1) Train til you are 100% comfortable using it and maintaing it (not hard)

2)Respect it because you won’t be calling back bullets after you pull the trigger. This isn’t a “he was kissing my girlfriend and I’m p** kinda thing”.

3) Safety is first, second, and third in importance. I’d recommend the fingerprint desk safe for those that have children in the house. It’s quick, easy and almost 100& safe. Remember, if your 12 yo gets in a fight and loses he knows mom has a great equalizer in the bedroom.

4) Remember that you’ll need to carry it in the car too so extra precautions are needed for that scenario. Then transporting back to the safe.

5) If you’re going to get a .22 get a slingshot instead, it’ll save you money and is just as effective.

6) Training, training, and more training. Don’t just buy a gun but join a gun club or something to really understand what you’re dealing with. Remember Slim joing that class and doing all the right homework first?

I’ve carried a gun daily for 20 years and have never had an accident. The military was great about showing us how to respect these things and take care of them, and a good school will do the same. Thing is I’m not pulling it out because my gf is out with some other dude or we got in an argument. You’ve all heard the rule “don’t pull it out unless you plan on using it” and thats to protect your physical body and not your feelings.

Beyond that the women I’ve taken to the range ALL got off on the power and fun from shooting. And remember, it will be mostly men at the range.

Happy shooting. LOL

Hi Leggs. Good to read you too. My condolences on the loss of your father.

Yeah, guys can be on some “other” stuff sometimes. Unfortunately, thats the climate in which we live. You’d be surprised (probably not!) at the number of women he could find that would have jumped at that offer.

Raqi - My experience boiled down to the same reason why your set up did not work - nothing, and I mean nothing in common! Opposites can attract, but I believe you can’t be TOO opposite. It did cause me to learn some things about my play aunt though. I realized that SHE was really caught up in the appearance/status things! I am so much more concerned with more substantive things in a person - common interests, values, responsibility, maturity, thoughtfulness, etc. She was married to a pretty boy that gave her nothing but headaches till the day he died. She is a very intelligent, interesting person too - but not so much in matters of the heart. It’s so much more important that I can hold a conversation with a person than they be pretty to look at or have a fat bank account. Intelligence, ambition and confidence turn me on.

M’karyl/Mo - That was my first & last set up, other than being introduced at the same event, party, etc. I don’t play cupid either! I had a major disagreement with a friend because I would not play cupid. I went out with this guy last year a few times but just was not attracted. She wanted me to set her up with him and I refused. You see, even though I was not attracted to this guy, I think he is a very nice person and we are friendly. She on the other hand, is a psycho diva with a bad attitude. She is a childhood friend of mine and I can tolerate her in small doses. I would not, however, do the guy such an injustice. I like him too much for that!

The last time I got set-up (college)was not cool. You know back in those days if someone you’re interested in has a friend, you bring your friend. Well my girl, Christina, like this boy on the b-ball team. He brought over his friend that was also on the b-ball team. Turns out I really like dude tall, dark, handsome, not an idiot cause in college, that’s all you hope for. We start seeing each other. BUT, for some reason he’s just treating me like a sister, you know handling me with “kid gloves” and I was a lil faster than that so I didn’t get it. Turns out my “friend”, neglected to tell me that he’s seeing her other friend. So he basically thinks that I’m tryin to set him up or somethin, and I had no idea!!! He didn’t trust me. I swore off men!

I met my SO two weeks later :-)

Good morning..

Truth

your analysis of gun and gun safety is pretty accurate.

We have .22, .45, 9mm, red rider bb gun (no joke-use it on stray dogs that poop on my lawn) and a shotgun.

The Mrs can handle the 22 and 9. She does have a bit of trouble with the .45. She has yet to pump the shotgun.

We go to various ranges around the ATL. There is one near the airport and a few in Cobb County. She has her very first target framed in the guest room. It has on hole in the leg, two in the chest, and 1 in the crotch area of the target.

I insisted that she get training. We have even gone to Camp Creek area and done skeet shooting. Fulton County residents get a reduced rate because it part of the Fulton County Parks and Recreation.

Truth/Kym yep, definitely felt better after attending the safety classes. But you gotta keep hitting the range trying out diff weapons to see what you’re more comfy with. In the class not only did we do single shots…they also told us to just unload the clip or barrel as fast as you could just to see how we did. Gotta admit, that was borderline scary but a dayum rush all at the same time. Of course you’ll lose more accuracy firing that way but if you actually shooting at somebody, best believe if they don’t shyt on themselves first, something gonna get dat goose!

Amred - I started watching ATL Housewives. NeNe reminds me of Tiffany AKA New York a little in the face. Irritating and ghetto and her old hubby is a little creepy to me. I like Lisa and Shawn. I don’t like Kim’s attitude at all and she cannot sing! I actually do like a few country-western songs so I know what that type of singing should sound like and um - NO! I don’t know why Dallas did not just level with her! Sha-Ray(msp on purpose) is a B, is not pretty, just very average and must wear makeup to be passable. Her little drawings are okay, but how did she get it in her head she has what it takes to make it in Paris/Milan? People work years to achieve that but she thinks she’s so fabulous she can just bypass hard work!

I see the OC housewives are coming back with a new “housewife” - another bleach-blond former playboy bunny type with implants! I like the OC ones better than the NY ones though.

I have come to the conclusion that the ATL housewives are really no more of a trainwreck than the OC or NY ones - neither is less materialistic, superficial or skanky. They all make for guilty-pleasure “reality” tv!LOL

T-Lo

No offense taken…lol. It is all good.

Truth

I got the shotgun from my grandpa. One week he called me over to his house and told me that he was proud of me, and so glad that he lived to see the first college grad in the family. Then, he gave me the gun. I tried to give it back to him, but he refused to take it back. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings so I kept it.

He died three days later.

Also,

There is one associate here at the firm that is a West Point grad. He is super gun crazy.

His basement looks like a gun museum. He has guns and ammo in cases and mounted to pieces of wood on his walls. Laser sights and all that. His sabers from West Point are also on the wall.

If nothing else, I stay on his good side…lol

Actually alot of guys are gun crazy. Guys living in an apartment with no furniture and a small arsenal. WTF????

Auntie Ared they have a range over on 75 near the farmers market. Close to both of us.

I met my wife speed dating. That is the most extreme thing for me.

I never let anyone set me up. I know what I like and I am very particular. Plus getting female company was never a problem.

LorDemi - Yeah, a lot of it is TV, though I believe there is a lot of the true personality there as well. I mean, otherwise why would you put on a completely different persona on a REALITY tv show? LOL! If you were down-to-earth and humble, just living an average everyday life, who do you think would tune in to see that? It’s all about the money!LOL! Any man that would really be attracted to that needs his head examined and deserves anything that goes down in my opinion!

I’m not sure if the county owns it, but it is part of the Fulton County Parks and Recreation.

They let us rent the guns, but we had to purchase the ammo.

Skeet shooting is a bit harder than I thought. It is nothing like the old video came “Duck Hunt”…lol.

Kym

I’ll give you a hint…try starting with legal encyclopedia. They usually cite cases. Those cases will lead you to more cases. (or do a natural language search.)

Westlaw has state version of legal encyclopedias. For example, GATORTLAW is an online legal encyclopedia regarding GA’s Tort law and it is available on Westlaw. It cites cases in it as well.

One more thing…

I read your last post yesterday. Put your confidence in yourself, not the legal profession.

Nearly all attorneys are neurotic. Now, that I am in law school, I know why.

Have confidence that you can adapt to the attorney and you handle what is thrown at you.

Another thing, be respectful to the secretaries (particularly the managing attorney’s secretary). IMO the have more power than you think. They can plant good things in the partners mind about you or bad things. Then, it becomes a matter of politics.

Believe in yourself and abilities, and you will always land on your feet. Sometimes it just comes down to meshing personalities just like any other job/career.

I’m putting my old psychology degree at work…again.

It is normal to feel bummed this time of year. It usually has more to do with exposure to sunlight more than cold.

Now that we’ve are back on standard time, the days really seem shorter (even thought they have been shortening since the First day of Summer). Sunlight influences hormones that may you happy. Look up Melantonin. More suicides are in the winter months partly due to this. It is almost dark at 6PM now. Last month darkness wouldn’t set in until 7PM.

@Slim and Beautiful

The staffing services are a good option…I worked contract for 10 years or so in the ATL…the are very good options if you are vehicle mobile…and they have various ranges too…I enjoyed the diversity, but I was not necessarily looking for perm work options…but many provide that too…the best part is that they do all of the work to find the placements based upon your skill sets and experience…better than sending out resumes and doing a plethora of interviews.

Staffing agency are having a hard time as well. They have tons of applicants but no job orders. While there maybe unskilled labor needed in some sectors. The skilled labor pool is deep. You have people with master degrees who can’t find work. Slim One If you are thinking about school-and I would highly suggested it-then look at fields that are in demand. Anything with the word medical..is in demand. Especially working with the elderly or emergency room care. Also, and this field is recession proof..in my opinion- Morticians. Yeah, true that the staffing services are having a downturn as well…but sometimes they also have good leads on job openings too…many companies will use the staffing service to recruit for a position because it is more cost efficient to do so…and there are no obligations, etc. unless the person is hired full time…the nice thing is that the services can market your skill sets to a client based and place you in an available opening…there are some advantages…but a person needs to be with more than one service…at least 5 or 6…and a car will increase the options available.

I got a 360 because of the Memory capacity….Microsoft makes XBOX. I wasn’t trying to buy memory sticks and such for a video game. The wife wanted it for Dance Dane Revolution.

Many games end up on most of the units (that increases the possibility of more money…more platforms=more customers). Not all games end up on all platforms. For example, Madden had some special anniversary edition that were only for Playstation owners.

Now, she has a wii and the yoga/wii fit.

Raqi

I got one of those game when I was a kid. They have become popular again. I just bought the football one at Target a few weeks ago after seeing my nephew and some of his friends playing theirs.

Early in the dating process we discovered that we both liked the Cosby Show in which the family did Ray Charles “Night & Day” for the grandparent’s anniversary.

We do that for each other on the “landmark” ones. For the first, I did the lead to LTD’s (I know I’m dating myself again) Love Ballad. She has did Natalie Cole’s “This will be…everlasting love”. We did it for the fifth and we will do something for tenth which is next year.

Last Christmas we gave the nieces and nephews board games. They were perfect gifts for those on a budget, like us.

candyland, chutes and Ladders, Hungry Hungry Hippo, and scrabble.

We were supposed to give my Godson the Monopoly game that we bought, but we kept it for ourselves and gave him another battleship.

PoppaG Somma the songs on Karaoke Revolution are, blah…When it the selections switches i’m like WTH is that song?!?!

We still do karaoke w/o it..

What? Ya’ll got the sound system joint like my gurfriend that actually sings really good? And most of her parties are karaoke parties.

We do that for each other on the “landmark” ones.

Ya’ll so cooote with the anniversary serenade! That song from Cosby show was adorable. And Keisha with her snagger tooth self.

I can’t wait to take my darlin to Spoken Word night, and he hears my heartbeat for him as i speak, and then wanna snatch my lil tail off the stage and do sumthin’ to me!!! kekekeke…

Poppa For the first, I did the lead to LTD’s (I know I’m dating myself again) Love Ballad.

I’m 31 and this is one of my favorite songs and I want to dance to this at my wedding. Well….it’s a toss up between that song and O’Bryan’s “You and I” for the first dance. I have an old soul.

Tell the wifey (if yall are into it) about that Karaoke Revolution that comes on the XBOX 360. maybe she’ll serenade you one night. :o) It’s sooo fun on the Playstation.

Our sound system isn’t bad, We have the Sharp flat screen over the fireplace(its the mirrors) and pioneer surround sound…It helps having friends that work at Best Buy! I very rarely have it up.

Comcast digital has a lot of stuff on demand. They have versions of the “Scene it” and some karaoke (or they used to have karaoke, I haven’t done that in a while).

The wife is much better singer than I, period. I made the dog howl…lol. As said before, I don’t get embarassed. I have no problem with public speaking but, I am not a singer. I know my limitations.

Kimmie I read that about Palin. She really is an idiot. Some of the best polical minds in the country couldn’t make her into a vice president.

Mo I have this low budget spot around the corner that makes the best braised wings and SFR. HMMMM Just enough grease to give you the good chest pains.

Hey, Dem Sum!

AAAWWWWWWW DAAAYUUUMMM not from scratch Jamoco andouille from scratch…. bowing my head

-AND-

I made that andouille from scratch Hell nawwww. Sausage from scratch! I must throw the flag of disbelief on that one.

Mqew/Du Mannnn…my folks always lookin’for me when it comes to cooking and family gatherings. I must admit, it feels good when the ‘ol heads givin’ you head knods, props and such.

I had some great teachers and lost one when my youngest daughter was born, great gannie, Big Ma’…they had this lil’ youngin’ in the kitchen at 6 y.o. tho’ I was limited to helping out, but mostly watched and eager to catch on’…Grand-daddy made that smokehouse sausage from scratch too…heyal, I was successfully smokin’ on the grill (unattended) by 12 y.o.

Though we had/still have an interesting relationship, Ma’ say: I work, you take care of the house …one thing I appreciate and take very serious. This only chile was brought up very ‘ol skool, when it came to household chores, cooking, and lookin’ out for the lil’ ones…but of my three daughters, I find my youngest one to be the most eager in this dept, and I welcome it, always.

Truth what about Super Mario?

I used to keep a game of that going for weeks at a time. I’d have like 99 extra men because I knew the tricks to get them and save the Princess with the wings. I would just cover up the console with a towel so my mama couldn’t see that the red light was still on. If she saw that, she’d turn it off. She almost had to talk me off the roof when she turned off a two-week long game once. I was for real about that game. It was the only one I could really play the hellz out of. LOL
