Giving thanks to yourself
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
With Thanksgiving upon us, I am in the mood for gratitude. And with any creative luck, my hope is that this week’s blogs will allow us to give thanks for the good, bad and downright weird lessons life and love bring us.
If its true that you must be good with “you” before making a solid “we,” let’s focus on giving thanks for our strengths. When it comes to relationships, what are your skills? (No, not those skills!)
In my case, I believe I’m a fairly strong communicator. I’ve been told I’m able to convey my thoughts, even in disagreements, clearly and without stepping on anyone’s toes.
For good measure, I asked Roland what he thought. He said he enjoys my forthrightness, but more importantly, likes that I tell him how I feel about him or what I appreciate about him in unexpected moments.
Now it’s your turn. What are three of your best (G-rated) skills when it comes to love?

What are three of your best (G-rated) skills when it comes to love?
I don’t know if these are the best, or even if they are “skills”, but I’m glad that I:
A. Have my own life. I do things and have friends outside of my relationship. I still have girls’ night out, I am furthering my education, I’m working on my financial goals for next year. It’s great to be a part of a couple, but I won’t let the couple consume me.
B. I’m learning how to just shut up sometimes. I’m dealing better with comfortable silence instead of having to fill our interactions with conversation.
C. I’m developing my realism. For too long, even though I would insist that I wasn’t living in FantasyLand when it came to relationships, I really was. Though I still have to remind myself to differentiate between realistic expectations and fanciful ones, it’s becoming easier with practice.

Most people are too visual, impatient and lack “relationship-intelligence”…They don’t give anyone a chance (or the time) to show their qualities…

Too bad AJC can’t be thankful for blogs that work!
It’s a little bit of a disconnect to consider thankfulness for that which one would consider ‘G Rated Love Skills’. My first reaction is, hedonistic much? My second is, well, the blogmeister is kinda busy and typed this up in a rush. Topical re: holidays, check; something to do with relationships, check; include the words ‘love’ and ‘skills’, racy enough, check.

Humor, Encouragement and Loyalty. These are the qualities I bring to the table. I love to make my smile and with me, he’ll believe he can do anything. As for loyalty, it took me a while to learn this, but now that I have there’s no turning back. Knowing someone is Always in your corner makes life that much more worth living.

Tiffany I mostly agree with your loyalty sentiment. I don’t really do blind loyalty; I can present a united front in public, but we might have to get some things straight in private. I’m definitely loyal as in faithful, and I’m willing to go through some rough times with my man. But he has to be loyal to me also. I say that as long as he has my front, I’ll have his back.

I used to think it was a sense of humor that I liked in a girl. then intellect. Then speaking skills. Then great eyes, and cool hair.
But all I really want a girl to do is look good in jeans.
Aging Baby Boomers dont really bring three whole attributes to the relationship table. Our only attribute is that we’re experienced, (and fat).

I agree with Tiffany on Loyalty. I am very loyal, but it is hard if someone isn’t loyal to you. It doesn’t make sense. I have a great sense of humor, learning to be a great listener:-), smart, fun, empathetic and compassionate.

Hello!
….i don’t have “skills” when it comes to love. Is there a skill to it? Someone told me, that love just finds you…
It’s only 30 odd days til Christmas. I repeat, 30 odd days til Christmas. If you’re not already buying presents, you better start now. If, like so many people in the last week or so, you are wondering what I’d like for Christmas, here are some ideas…
*Oster 16speed Blender/Processor combo
*Limited edition Converse lo-top gold metallic old-skools, size 9 to be precise.
*Vintage scarf (purple, turquoise, brown)
There are lots of other things I am sure I will think of, but that’s all for now.

how thankful i am for him being in my life he is a wonderful dad Angie,it cld have been worse. From time to time, show him ur appreciation by making him taste the roasted oats,he will appreciate that u have matured beyond the breakup.U got a seed together,so ur separation is artificial! Ur loyalty is to Big Daddy 1st and ur current boyfriend, later.Afterall, that pudsy is no mystery to him,so dont be too stingy.Besides,u dont have to share the intimates with anybody apart from Big Daddy!

A. Beaten the odds/adversity preset before me. Has given me great success and strength.
B. Self Reliance. I don’t have to depend on anyone or anything to get me by.
C. Uncomformist. If I do not agree it, there is no way to make me.
I’m hard headed which I know it makes people uncomfortable to be around me. But it keeps me protected, wise, and unaffected by others woes. I have had my own long lists of those but I’m not one to wine (but actually willing to do something about it myself) or listen to someone else wine. If you can’t stand on your own two feet, then why should I waste my time with you?
