Greenlee just needs a hug

I’m going to go ahead and say it.

I feel sorry for All My Children’s Greenlee.

I know she can be selfish and whiny and snarky, but there’s just something about the character that gets to me, although that wasn’t always the case.

When Greenlee first came to Pine Valley all those years ago, I wasn’t a huge fan. Even portrayed by the talented and cute-as-a-button Rebecca Budig, the character wasn’t an immediate draw for me. It probably had to do with the fact that she became a spoiler for my beloved Ryan and Gillian (insert moment of silence for this wonderful couple).

But, eventually, Greenlee won Leo’s heart — and mine. I came to appreciate her attitude, which masked some major vulnerabilities and insecurities. I rejoiced when she turned out to be Jackson’s daughter, I mourned when she lost Leo, I cried when she miscarried and I felt her anger when Ryan faked his death.

I even sided with her in the surrogacy story. I know Kendall was trying to help, but I don’t blame Greenlee for being upset that her best friend pulled a switcheroo on her, never bothering to reveal that she had her egg fertilized by Ryan’s sperm. It’s not like Ryan was just some friend of Kendall’s. This was a man she deeply loved, a man she effectively lost to Greenlee. And Greenlee was just supposed to say, “Whoops. Accidents happen,” and then join hands with Kendall and Ryan and sing Kum Ba Ya?

Um, no, this is Greenlee we’re talking about, after all.

Greenlee had a lot dumped on her, by people she trusted above all others. It’s no wonder she left town.

When she came back, this time portrayed by Sabine Singh, I immediately rooted for her, mostly because Ryan has turned into a sanctimonious jerk, Zach has yet to pay for any of his crimes and Kendall is, well, Kendall.

Greenlee has made some mistakes, to be sure, but none of her detractors have room to talk. (Are you listening, Erica?) Greenlee is a woman who sometimes acts out like a little girl. She’s obviously lonely and grasping for the life she thought she would have by now, the life that Ryan spit on and Kendall mistakenly let her dream about.

I think it’s way past time she cut ties with those two and began looking to the future, not the past. And Aidan seems like a good way to start.

Who’s appearing at Super Soap Weekend?

Kara and I are gearing up for our third Super Soap Weekend and we’re planning on blogging from there each day.

This incredible event, held Nov. 10 and 11 at Disney MGM Studios in Orlando, features fan interactions with actors and actresses from the three ABC soaps: All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital. But with only six weeks to go, the list of soap stars who are scheduled to attend has been trickling in at a snail’s pace.

And here’s the thing.

I seem to remember that a more complete list has been released earlier in past years.

So, I’m wondering…..What Gives?

And I’m not the only one wondering.

There’s plenty of chatter from cyberspace soap fans asking why so late with the list?

So far, the list is pretty short. As I write this, there were only five confirmed from GH, six from AMC and eight confirmed from OLTL. It may be updated as you’re reading this.

Two GH hunks - Steve Burton (Jason) and Greg Vaughan (Lucky) - have confirmed they will not attend this year.

The other thing noticeably missing: a lack of the longtime soap veterans.

The only one so far is Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) from AMC. Where’s Michael E. Knight (Tad) from AMC? He was there last year.

How about Erika Slezak (Viki) from OLTL? She was there last year.

Click here to view the lineup so far and to find more info on SSW 2007.

Also, Disney has a SSW message board. Fans post confirmations on the boards that they have read on the various actors websites. Click here to check out the message board.

So stay tuned and bookmark this site for updates and the most up-to-date experiences from SSW 2007.

It’s my understanding that Disney has yet to release the “official” list. So, there are sure to be more stars to confirm. Just keep checking the SSW page.

For die-hard soap fans, this event is a must!

If you haven’t made your reservations yet, there’s still plenty of time.

But don’t take my word for it. Be there.

You may even find your evil twin!

AMC’s Cameron Mathison Competes on Primetime

All My Children fans will want to tune in tonight to Dancing With The Stars, 8 p.m. on ABC to lend support to Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery).

Mathison could put the soap world on the map for a second time in season five of this popular primetime show. This season’s roster of 12 celebrities is the largest to date.

Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall on General Hospital) took the top prize in season one, boosted by the outpouring of soap fans who voted for her and kept her in the game to the end.

The three judges - Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman - were particularly harsh on Monaco during the first two weeks - unjustifiably so in my opinion. Kelly really did a wonderful job, certainly as well as any of the other contestants.

And she showed tons of class.

When the judges lobbed cruel criticisms about her dancing, Kelly just stood there and listened.

Instead of responding with negativity, she practiced harder, coming back stronger and stronger each week - ultimately emerging the winner.

Now it’s Mathison’s turn and he’s going to need support from the soap world.

He has a lot on his plate. In addition to a front burner storyline on All My Children, Mathison hosts the SOAPnet reality show I Wanna Be a Soap Star and now adds the grueling DWTS schedule.

DWTS began last night with the six female celebs strutting their stuff - Jennie Garth, Marie Osmond, Jane Seymour, Sebrina Bryan, Josie Maran and Melanie Brown (aka Scary Spice).

Tonight, the men take the floor - Wayne Newton, Helio Castroneves, Albert Reed, Floyd Mayweather, Mark Cuban and Mathison.

Wednesday is elimination.

The star who gets the least number of votes gets booted from the show. Fans can vote online, by telephone or text message.

And as the saying goes in Palm Beach County - Make Every Vote Count!

Why do I feel for ya, Ric?

What is it about certain characters on soap operas? You know the ones I mean. Those selfish, self-absorbed characters who do hurtful, even despicable things, and yet you still root for them.

Right now, I have one that, for some reason, pulls at my heartstrings, even though my brain tells me to “Cut ‘im loose. He doesn’t deserve your sympathy.”

Well, brain, I just can’t help it. Maybe my fellow soap viewers can shed some light on this strange phenomenon.

I present my case in point: Ric Lansing on General Hospital.

How many horrible things has this man done? All because he can’t get past his grudge against Sonny?

Let’s see. He made Carly believe he had raped her. He tried to blackmail Courtney into marrying him. Later, he kidnapped Carly while she was pregnant, chaining her up in a sound-proof room with the intention of stealing her and Sonny’s baby. He drugged his then-wife, Elizabeth, and also let her drink poison at one point. He slept with his own step-daughter, Sam. And he took daughter Molly away from a cancer-stricken Alexis, not because she couldn’t handle being a mother during her illness, but because he felt like being spiteful.

When I see his crimes in black and white, it’s crystal clear how horrible he has been and can be.

But then he’ll have a scene with Molly, and I’ll melt. Or a confrontation with Sonny, arrogance personified, and I get out my “Go, Ric!” pompoms. Or he’ll be on the receiving end of an insult from his father, Trevor, and I think, “Awww, poor Ric, it’s no wonder he’s so messed up.”

I think I’ll just give the credit to portrayer Rick Hearst. He has a way of bringing out shades of vulnerability in Ric. The tenderness and fierce protectiveness he has for Molly. How he longs for respect from Sonny. The traces of the little boy who just wants his dad to love him.

Oh, curses, here I go again. I can’t stay mad at ya, can I, Ric? You just keep pulling me back in.

C.H.E.R.I Initiative Fights for OLTL Female Vets

Fans can make a difference.

Just ask longtime One Life to Live fan Denise Balcarcel.

Let’s rewind to May 2006.

Balcarcel attended what may have been a “last hurrah” fan club luncheon for Hillary B.Smith aka Nora Hanen on ABC’s One Life to Live.

Six months before the gathering, Nora had lapsed into a coma as the end of Smith’s contract loomed without any negotiations from the network. Nora, the smart, straight-shooting attorney, emerged from her coma after Smith had inked a one-year contract extension.

But things were not looking good in the long term for Smith’s beloved character as her fans came together at the luncheon. Balcarcel wanted to communicate fans’ concern for the longtime veteran actress in a powerful way - a way that would make network executives and sponsors take notice.

“We wanted to find a way to get Nora back into the mainstream and give her a story,” Balcarcel says. “Then I thought, ‘what about a joint fan-based initiative with die-hard fans of the other female vets.?’”

Balcarcel put up a post on the Soap Central message boards asking if anyone from other fan bases were interested. Fans of Erika Slezak (Viki) and Robin Strasser (Dorian) reached out.

From there, the H.E.R (Hillary-Erika-Robin) initiative was born. By late Aug. it became C.H.E.R.I - to include Catherine Hickland (Lindsay) and Ilene Kristen (Roxy).

CHERI%20women.jpg

Representatives of the five fanbases gathered other fans of the long-running soap into the fray, waging an intensive writing campaign aimed at ABC executives, the Walt Disney board of directors and the sponsors. They gathered more fan support through the internet. Balcarcel calls it “a grassroots concept with a 21st century mindset.”

This mission is threefold: to raise awareness of how these veterans have been minimized, to unite in a writing-intensive campaign and to honor these women through support of their charities. click here to view the new C.H.E.R.I myspace page.

The group not only wanted to get more airtime for these actresses. They wanted substantial storylines for them too.

The proof is in the pudding as they say.

Smith (who was raised in Palm Beach) landed a four-year contract. Hickland is part of a high-profile storyline - of which Smith figures into in a big way. Rumblings are that Slezak is tapped for a major, upcoming storyline. Both Strasser and Kristen have seen increased air-time and involvement in significant storylines.

Storyline improvements over the past month have been attributed to longtime OLTL writer Ron Carlivati, who recently took over the head writing job from Dena Higley. Higley was fired following outcries from fans that she was systematically destroying their beloved soap.

C.H.E.R.I even has an online store with tons of different T-shirts, sweatshirts, buttons, coffee mugs…You name it. It’s there. There’s even a C.H.E.R.I thong!

Click here to take a peek at all the cool stuff. And the beauty is that all of the proceeds go to charities supported by the actresses. Because in addition to balancing a demanding work schedule with their personal lives, these actresses give of themselves to support charities like hurricane relief and homeless residential services for the needy.

10 reasons to love General Hospital

OK, Michele. This could be war. Sonny-and-Jason, GH-mob-style war, if you get my drift. You have fired the first shot, so I have no choice but to retaliate.

Well, not really, but you have inspired me to share my list of the 10 things I love about General Hospital.

  1. Jason and Elizabeth. Hands-down, my favorite story. Steve Burton and Rebecca Herbst are amazing together. I have waited many long, painful, Courtney- and Sam-filled years to see the hitman with the heart of gold and the good-girl nurse with the fiery streak finally get it right and realize they belong together.

  2. Trevor. I love that he is not only a professional threat to Sonny but he’s also a personal threat. He gets to Port Charles’ dimpled mob boss in a way that no one else ever has. Trevor makes Sonny feel like a little boy again and it scares him … and it’s fascinating to watch.

  3. Sam and Maxie. I like having female characters I love to hate. Carly can’t carry that torch all on her own. Sam and Maxie are more interesting than they have been in years, and I get a kick out of the fact that they are best buds. There are enough “good girls” on the GH canvas, so I welcome some characters who lean a little more toward the “bad.” It makes the show more balanced and watchable.

  4. Max and Milo and Diane and Epiphany. Love, love, love these side characters and the humor they add to the show.

  5. Speaking of humor, I’m actually enjoying Alan’s ghost. Although I would prefer to have him as a living character, it’s such a trip watching him haunt Tracy. And the Quartermaine insult fests are always welcome.

  6. Georgie and Spinelli. Let’s all say it together: Awwwwww. How much sweeter can a potential couple be?

  7. Lulu and Logan. I know, I know. He’s a scheming, immature, sometimes-jerk who can’t keep his pants zipped, but I really like him with Lulu. Plus, if he turns out to be Scotty’s son? It’s just too good a story to pass up.

  8. Patrick and Robin. Thank you, GH, for shaking this couple up. Yes, I love them together. Yes, Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson have wonderful chemistry. But if all they continued to do was argue about furniture or their latest patient consultation … well, as my 5-year-old son would say, “BOR-ing.” Couples need these lows so we can clamor for and appreciate the highs. Scrubs was due for some real drama.

  9. Jason and Robin. I enjoyed their recent conversation at the coffee house because I like when GH actually remembers that two characters have a history together. I was a big J&R fan, and although I don’t think a romance would work between them now, I like to see that they are still connected.

  10. Emily and Sonny. The fact that these two are no longer together is reason enough to rejoice.

10 Reasons to Hate General Hospital

There are so many storylines and characters that I don’t like on General Hospital right now, I am on the verge of tuning out for awhile.

Here’s my top 10 countdown of why I hate GH right now, with 10 being the worst.

  1. Nicolas
He’s been volatile and over-the-edge lately with everyone including Alexis and Emily. What’s up with that?

  2. Carly
She’s really grating on my nerves lately - because….well, she’s Carly.

  3. Maxie
    She’s a trainwreck…And how can I say this delicately? A slut.
Coming off the Lucky travesty, she finally found a nice, decent, faithful boyfriend in Coop - and did I mention gorgeous?
So what does she do? She sleeps with Coop’s best friend, Logan.

  4. Jason
I hate the way he’s treated Sam over the past year. His actions towards her have triggered several of the current, detested storylines.

  5. Jerry Jax aka James Craig
Threatening Sam that she seduce Trevor and find out Anthony Zaccara’s plan or else he will kill her?
    Come on!
Just when the writers were beginning to semi-rehabilitate Jerry’s image after he terrorized everyone during the hostage crisis as James Craig. Now he’s reverting back to his psycho ways!

  6. Sam
Even though I’m all for Sam getting revenge against Liz, seducing Lucky isn’t the way to do it. It just makes her look cheap. And Wardrobe Dept…Hello? Put her in some attractive clothes instead of those sleazy-looking outfits! You can have seductive clothing without looking totally trampy.

  7. Trevor/Sonny/Ric
First there was Sonny the resident mob boss. Then came his deranged half-brother Ric, who happens to be the District Attorney with a sick, twisted obsession for revenge against Sonny because their mother chose Sonny over Ric.
Now, enter Trevor, Ric’s father and slimy attorney to New York City crime boss Anthony Zuccara. Trevor hates Sonny and seems to detest Ric, his own flesh and blood. To top it all off, Trevor is blackmailing Kate. Get rid of Trevor. Now!

  8. Patrick and Robin
Scrubs, as they’re known, was my favorite couple on the show and now they’re split!
Jason Thompson and Kimberly McCullough have such a great onscreen rapport together. They always make me smile. And after their pregnancy scare, these two are splitsville? Let’s not even mention that young nurse, Leyla, fawning over Patrick…Grrrrr.

  9. The Mob Wars
    Hate Them!
It’s bad enough that Sonny/Jason and the mob are involved in everything that happens in Port Charles. Now they’re bringing in a crime boss from New York City to go up against Sonny and his gang?
Get the mob off the front burner and get back to what GH is supposed to be about - love in the afternoon!

  10. (Saint) Elizabeth
There’s really not enough room here for me to talk about my disdain for Liz in the past few months - and I used to really like her.
But I just can’t stand her sanctimonious,holier-than-thou stance toward Sam when she is no better. May I remind Liz that she has two children by two different men, both from one night stands.
And I HATE the way she’s deceived Lucky, her husband, into thinking that baby Jake is his when Jason is really the father. The worst part is that she keeps insisting that she wants to be with Lucky when she finds every opportunity to see Jason.
Would you please just get with Jason and put all of us out of our misery!!
And, by the way, have you ever noticed that every scene showing Elizabeth at home opens with her picking up the kids’ toys or folding the kids’ clothes?
I mean, is there really that many toys around and clothes to fold?

There are just too many psychos, sickos and fatally flawed characters in Port Charles, even for soap land.

Bottom Line: The only two worth watching are Georgie and Spinelli!

Sami, Lucas, E.J.: Triangle done right

I’m not usually a fan of triangles. Often they involve some weakly contrived storyline where some weakly contrived character is thrown at a couple to make waves. Or, even worse, the triangle is so lopsided that it’s obvious who’s going to win out, and where’s the fun in that? I must admit, though, Days of Our Lives’ Sami, Lucas and E.J. are reminding me that a triangle can be worth watching, if it’s done right.

As a longtime Sami (Alison Sweeney) and Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) fan, it pains me to admit that E.J. (James Scott) is a real threat, but it also thrills me because I don’t have a clue where this story will end up. Will Sami be with Lucas or E.J.? Count me in as one who is torn. My heart leans toward Lucas; however, like Sami, I can’t help but find E.J. tempting. So, as a service to my fellow viewers (and for the sake of my soap-watching sanity), I’ll make a pro and con list for each man.

Lucas’ mother is Kate Roberts. Definite con, considering she despises Sami and has tried to ruin/kill her more than once. Then again, E.J.’s maternal genes aren’t exactly stellar. Susan Banks, if I remember correctly, was loony and frumpy. At least Kate has some fashion sense, so I give the edge to Lucas.

Lucas’ father is Bill Horton of the well-respected, doctor/lawyer-producing, donut-loving Horton clan. E.J.’s proud papa is Stefano DiMera. Um, really, do I have to spell this one out? Advantage: Lucas.

Lucas let Sami take the fall for a murder he committed, a murder she was almost put to death for. E.J. raped Sami (yes, I call it rape when someone blackmails someone else into sex). Hmmmm, near-death vs. physical violation. I’d say neither of them should reminisce on these times in their love letters to Sami, so I call it a draw.

Well … I guess it’s looking obvious where my loyalty still lies.

Lucas and Sami have known each other since they were teenagers. They started out as friends, turned into lovers, eventually became enemies and then, finally, got their acts together and became friends and lovers, man and wife. They have a son and twins on the way. They are each other’s family, and they make sense to me.

But then there’s E.J. He and Sami have two things going for them:

First, he’s a DiMera and she’s a Brady. They represent two sides of the feud that ate Salem, a feud that began with their ancestral lookalikes, Colleen and Santo (a Romeo and Juliet-style flashback story that I am thoroughly enjoying, by the way). Their lineage alone provides drama and story, something I’m sure the Days writers are salivating over.

Second, the chemistry between Sweeney and Scott makes this pair work when, by all rights, it shouldn’t, not with the rape hanging over these characters’ heads.

Like I said before, I’m not sure where this story will end up. I do know that viewers are taking an avid interest and are heatedly debating who’s the right man for Sami.

That, my friends, is when you know you have a bona-fide triangle playing out on your screens.

GH’s Bad Girl, Maxie, busted in real life

Kirsten Storms, Maxie Jones on General Hospital, was arrested for DUI by California Highway Patrol over the weekend, according to TMZ.com

Maxie is the resident bad girl of Port Charles, using lies and sex as a tool for blackmail and revenge.

Before landing the recasted role of Maxie in 2005, Storms played Belle Black on Days of our Lives.

SOAPnet’s Fashionistas? No Thank You.

Is there anyone who really watches The Fashionista Diaries on SOAPnet?

More importantly, is there anyone who likes the show?

If so, I have just one question.

Why?

The show focuses on six 20-somethings working as assistants for a PR firm, a magazine and a cosmetics company in the Big Apple. It follows the day-to-day drama surrounding their work and their social lives.

Only problem, there isn’t any….Drama, that is.

It’s just Bor-ing!

I just don’t find anything entertaining about these young interns working 24-7 for little money, while having to put up with verbal abuse by their bosses.

Well, at least one boss.

Mandie. Mandie Erickson. The head of Seventh House PR.

She is just downright mean to the interns, specifically the new girl Laurie. It appears that she feels powerful and better about her miserable self by degrading these young girls.

Mandie basically told Laurie, when she hired her, that she would work tons of hours for little money and should be grateful for it.

Then Mandie fires a parting salvo. She tells Laurie to forgo eating in order to buy new clothes.

The ABSOLUTE worst thing I have ever seen - and trust me I’m never watching this show again - was last week. Mandie called the other intern, Bridget, into her office, leaving Laurie outside within hearing distance.

Mandie proceeds to tell Bridget how awful and how ugly Laurie’s (Gucci) shoes are and Bridget must tell Laurie. Well, Laurie was devastated and ran from the office.

I wanted to reach through the television and slap that witch across her smug face.

And this coming from someone who….how can I put this delicately….is not exactly a head turner.

But don’t take my word for it. Just go to SOAPnet and look at Mandie’s picture. And I don’t mean the glamour shot at the top of the page. There’s an untouched photo of her in action.

There’s a “pretty policy” in place at Seventh House PR? Well look in the mirror, Mandie.

I hate to be catty, but if Mandie can be so utterly cruel to these young girls, then someone on her own level needs to set her straight.

And believe me, I’ve eaten PR people for breakfast, so have at me Mandie. Give it your best shot at someone who can, and will, fight back.

For the life of me, I can’t understand why the show is on SOAPnet to begin with. I mean, it’s not STYLEnet or FASHIONnet. It’s SOAPnet, the channel of all things soaps.

And the worst thing about it is that it pre-empts my favorite soap - One Life To Live - from its normal 9 p.m. time slot on Wednesdays.

By the way, Mandie.

Meryl Streep called.

She wants her character back from “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Drop the sister act, Guiding Light

I’m sorry, but I can’t get past the basic skeeviness of Josh (Robert Newman) and Cassie (Nicole Forester) on Guiding Light. Not to knock the characters — individually they’re fine — but as a couple? The pairing just bothers me.

Josh isn’t the first soap guy to be involved with sisters, and I’m sure he won’t be the last. But something about his relationship with Cassie really gets my goat. Not that I know what “getting my goat” really means, but I assure you, if I had a goat, Cassie and Josh would have it firmly in their grasp.

Perhaps it’s the fact that GL is messing with its franchise couple, Reva and Josh. Reva, of course, is played by the wonderfully talented Kim Zimmer (I still think of Body Heat whenever I see her on screen). Although I expect this supercouple to hit a few potholes, maybe even a few sinkholes, in their journey, this Cassie thing is like a huge black hole, sucking out all that I ever appreciated about the characters, Josh in particular.

I get that Cassie adds conflict, but really, GL, couldn’t you have found some other way to spice up Josh and Reva’s relationship? All you’ve managed to do with this tasteless sister swap is to give me a bad case of viewers’ indigestion.

One Life to Live uses many voices for charity

The two-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina has just past, and yet people are still homeless and there is much work to be done in rebuilding the Gulf Coast.

The One Life To Live cast is still giving to that much-needed cause, with Robin Strasser (Dorian) leading the pack.

The cast produced a 26-track CD called “One Life Many Voices” with 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale going to hurricane relief. Strasser, president of the One Life Many Voices Foundation, went to Louisiana last year and helped out with a Habitat for Humanity house.

Some of the many cast members featured on the album: Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Kathy Brier (Marcie), Ilene Kristen (Roxy), Erika Slezak (Viki) and Tika Sumpter (Layla).

The CD is available for $15 and can be purchased on Robin’s website or on the OLMV website.

Check out the new my space page devoted to this project with excerpts from the CD. Robin has chosen the songs and asks everyone on MySpace to add OLMV as a friend and place it as one of your top friends.

For Catherine Hickland fans, there’s yet another opportunity to donate to this cause.

Does anyone remember the explosive “Woman of the Year” episodes where Lindsay (Hickland) was arrested as Spencer’s killer while being honored with the WOTY title? That great poster of Lindsay, displayed so prominently during those scenes, is being auctioned on Ebay for the benefit of OLMV.

cad4_1.jpg

Go to Ebay and type in Catherine Hickland. The poster is signed by Hickland and the auction ends Sunday.

Take Georgie for a Spin

How cute are General Hospital’s Georgie and Spinelli? So cute that I was downright giddy during their recent scenes at the penthouse. And, believe me, I’m at an age when truly giddy moments seem to get fewer and farther between. But there I was, grinning like I’d just seen Some Kind of Wonderful for the first time.

That’s the key, I guess. The interplay between Georgie and Spin reminds me of some of my favorite love stories, where two people are friends but one secretly wishes it was much more.

I recognize that Spin and Lulu have that undercurrent, as well, but I never saw them as a real match. Lulu doesn’t appreciate Spinelli physically, and Spinelli appreciates Lulu so much that it’s unrealistic. There is a definite lack of balance.

With Georgie, however, I see true possibilities. I see equals rather than worshipper and worshippee.

As soon as Spinelli opened the penthouse door to reveal Georgie standing there, I smiled. Then it hit me how much sense it makes for Georgie to be interested in The Jackal. She likes her guys quirky. Case in point: Dillon. Ironically enough, about five seconds after I had that thought, Georgie voiced it. She is The Insightful One, Spin!

Lindze Letherman (Georgie) really lights up when she’s in scenes with Bradford Anderson (Spinelli). Of course, who wouldn’t? The character of Spinelli is one of the best things to hit daytime in a while. That’s exactly why he needs a girl like Georgie who can really appreciate all that he has to offer. Not only does she appreciate it, but she is attracted to it.

I hope GH sticks with this pairing. It’s sweet and fresh, yet still entertaining, and it provides a nice counterbalance to the bed-hopping, back-stabbing aspects of the Lulu/Logan/Maxie/Coop saga.

Plus, how great would it be to see Georgie win out over Lulu (Julie Marie Berman), especially after the shabby way Dillon (Scott Clifton) treated his one-time wife?

Georgie and Spin are sweet, loyal people who deserve to find someone to love who truly loves them back. If GH has any sense, they’ll make sure these characters find that connection with each other.

Will Passions survive the move to DirectTV?

I never really got Passions. It’s a little too out there for me.

Witches, spells, that whole supernatural thing mixed into a soap - it’s just not my thing.

But the offbeat soap does have a following.

Friday marks the end of Passions 8-year run on NBC. But it’s not the end of the soap.

Die-hard fans will be able to pick up right where they left off. The catch is they will have to subscribe to DirectTV to do it.

DirectTV begins airing new episodes of Passions on the 101 Sept. 17.

DirectTV will run each new episode twice a day, Monday-Thursday at 2 and 7 p.m. with a Passions marathon on Saturdays beginning at 10 a.m.

But the question remains - does Passions have a large enough and loyal enough fan base who will pony up the money to subscribe to the satellite TV company?

The buzz in cyberspace is no. Many fans of the show say they just don’t have money in their budget to jump to DirectTV, no matter how loyal they are to the show.

So again I ask you oh loyal Passions fans - what is the appeal of this quirky soap and will you subscribe to satellite to get it? And are there really that many Passions fans out there who care?

Hey, Nash, enough with the whine

I watched the recent One Life to Live scenes between Nash (Forbes March) and Antonio (Kamar de los Reyes) with interest. OK, it was more like shock. It’s hard for me to believe that Nash has the nerve to get an attitude. I realize he’s in danger of losing his precious vineyard, but guess what? Antonio lost a heck of a lot more, and much of it was thanks to Nash.

Let’s review:

Nash fell in love with Tess, Jessica’s alter ego. Jessica (Bree Williamson) was in love with Antonio. Jess/Tess got pregnant and, in true soap opera fashion, had no clue who the father was. It turned out to be Nash.

Jessica wanted to undergo therapy to integrate her personalities. Instead of being supportive and recognizing that the woman he loved had a real illness, Nash worked hard to keep Jess as Tess. Conveniently enough, when Jess and Tess did integrate, Nash decided he was now in love with Jessica and pursued her accordingly.

Jessica agreed to marry Antonio, even though she was conflicted about the decision because of her feelings for Nash. Antonio then risked his life to save Nash and Jessica from a fire, which had inconveniently interrupted their make-out session.

Then Jessica was supposed to adopt Antonio’s daughter but backed out at the last minute. She was apparently so upset by the emotional upheaval she had caused that she ran off and subsequently made passionate love to Nash outside, at the quarry, in the middle of a rainstorm.

Now, after all that has passed, Nash has the audacity to be miffed that Antonio wants to sell his part of the vineyard, a venture that Antonio took on in a measure of good faith toward Nash?

My favorite moment was when Nash claimed that Antonio was being spiteful by selling his vineyard shares to a stranger. Uh, really, Nash? You think Antonio might actually harbor a little resentment after all that has transpired? I sure wouldn’t blame him.

In fact, Antonio has been more gracious than I would have expected. He even agreed to be a partial liver donor for Jessica, despite having just learned that Jessica planned on leaving him for Nash.

Ah, yes, and let’s not forget the final blow. Jessica and Nash got married before the ink was barely dry on her divorce from Antonio.

Yeah, it’s pretty clear Antonio doesn’t owe you squat, so while I’d like to say I feel sorry for ya, Nash, I think you brought these sour grapes on yourself.
