GH crankin’ up the girl power

You know, there was a while, not long ago, when I thought General Hospital had forgotten how to write female friendships.

Thank goodness times seem to be a’changin’.

First, there were those Girls Night Out episodes at Jake’s. It was fun to see a group of intelligent, professional, mature women getting together and talking and actually having fun.

Then there was Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Maxie (Kirsten Storms). Two scheming peas in a pod (although they both seem to have moved on recently from revenge mode).

Next came the ingenious idea to bond Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) during a hilarious, debacle-filled yet eye-opening trip to claim Litigator of the Year. What a fabulous pair they make.

Now I’m enjoying another female connection: the growing friendship between Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Robin (Kimberly McCullough).

It makes perfect sense for these two women to bond. They both work at the hospital, they both have maternal matters on the brain and, frankly, they could both use a friend.

Robin, for one, hasn’t had a true gal pal since Brenda. And Elizabeth? The death of BFF Emily has left a definite void in her life.

Watching Elizabeth and Robin grow closer has been a pleasure. Not only are they my two favorite female characters on the show, but their friendship (as well as Sam/Maxie and Alexis/Diane) gives me hope for the future of GH.
