The Atlanta Jazz Festival lights up Piedmont Park at the end of the month, but metro music lovers don’t have to wait until then to get their groove on.
The “31 Days of Jazz” is in full swing, with tunes on tap at clubs in Sandy Springs and Alpharetta, at Midtown and downtown office buildings, in the atrium at Hartsfield-Jackson and numerous other locales.
Workers taking a lunch break at Midtown’s Colony Square Thursdays from noon until 1 p.m. can hear music on the outdoor plaza, while those in Peachtree Center will be entertained in the food court on Fridays. (The clever Nat King Coal Miners, featuring Matt Wauchope on piano, are scheduled for Friday’s May 6 Peachtree Center lunchtime jazz.)
Trumpeter Russell Gunn and his quartet will serve as the house band for the Park Tavern late-night jam May 28 (in easy strolling distance for those wrapping up a day and evening of jazz at Piedmont Park) but there will be a cornucopia of horns available through the month, including Joe Gransden and his big band on Monday, May 16 at Cafe 290 in Sandy Springs.
