Inside Atlanta: Guide to visiting the Georgia Aquarium

Georgia Aquarium took the No. 2 spot on the publication’s annual Best Aquarium 2017 list, according to results released this afternoon.

Neighboring aquarium Ripley’s Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee, reigned supreme at the No. 1 after the 19-day voting period.

The competition is a part of the publication’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

The crown jewel at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta is the Ocean Voyager exhibit, where guests can watch whale sharks, manta rays and giant schooling fish swim past 22- to 33-foot tall viewing windows within the same exhibit. Other guest favorites include a stellar penguin exhibit, as well as many marine mammals – beluga whales, bottlenose dolphins, sea otters and California sea lions.

Though Atlanta’s aquarium, the largest in the Western Hemisphere, didn’t take the title this year, local residents and and out-of-town visitors Aquariam reach the No. 1 spot in 2014.
