August 8: Barnes threatens legal action over 99X’s “No Witness” viewing party

Late last month, 99X’s morning show mocked its former host Steve Barnes by holding a viewing party at American Pie of his new straight-to-DVD film “No Witness.”
At the time, the notoriously prickly Barnes (now morning host at Dave FM) told Peach Buzz he was cool with it. “It’s beautiful, it’s free publicity,” he said. “I’ve done nothing to those people. It makes me laugh. I’ll have to send them a thank-you note.”
Instead, Barnes had his attorney Pete Wellborn inform 99X that the station was in violation of copyright infringement by holding a public screening of “No Witness” without the film owner’s permission.
Barnes referred calls to Wellborn. Any legal action, Wellborn told me, “would include some financial remuneration. But the exact details are premature to speculate. I stress that Barnes and No Witness LLC are still in investigative mode.”
99X’s Mark Renier, general manager, declined to comment.

I wish I was too young to remember “Donnie Simpson V.Soul… Sherrie Carter.” I think BET has done the right thing. My kids watch BET er’day. With that, I can do without the pregnancy rumors, infidelity, hidden gay lifestyle, etc. When these are the rumors circulating around the hosts, its time for a change.
That might not be the reason for the change, but it was time for one. Grown folk need to give it up. Except the demographic and move on grown folks.
My kids get mad when I watch, cause I continiously point out the old school in the mix and blast the original. My dad did it to me and I enjoy remixing with them. But it’s their video show now.

Fred Toucher is so clever! He is so talented. He is a poor mans Larry Wachs. Those two homosexual men he works with are great also! Fram and Jemmy speak for most gay Atlantans and bring a unique perspective to morning radio.

I for one say good for Barnes. Wasn’t he a big part of 99X’ success for the better part of a decade? It shouldn’t matter what happened behind the scenes. To knock him on air like 99X has been doing is simply classless.

Barnes’ ego certainly doesnt match his talent. He basically ran off a really competent sports guy in Mitch Evans. Barnes had to approve his scripts. The bashing of barnes is certainly deserved. He labors under the delusion that he is talented. He has a good broadcast voice and can get a show in and out of break but he certainly isnt funny or insightful. He is very bland and should just pull up to the nearest bar and order a double shot of get over himself.

So, if Mitch Evans is such a wonderful sports guy, why is he still not working? We’ve got two sports stations and nobody want’s to hire him? Sounds like the problem might lie with Mitch.

Don’t know barnes personally, and I’ve never worked with him. But I’ve heard enough about him from people who have to believe most of what people are saying. Been hearing what an alpha male ego maniac he is for years. A rumor isn’t a rumor if it doesn’t die. Besides. I think the competition between 99x, and Barnes is good radio.

Barnes hates anyone who sounds smarter than he is on the air…not that it takes alot! Holly Firfer isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, and she was handpicked by Barnes for All Access. Mitch Evans wasn’t, and after Barnes successfully ran him off, the show’s producer is doing sports.
