SPIRITS
Arizona's Remy SidecarPublished on: 02/24/2005
WAY OUT WEST
As Arizona's (2940 Stonecrest Circle, Lithonia) swings open for business, it brings some specialty cocktails. Remy-Martin VSOP dances together with Cointreau in the Remy Sidecar. Splashes of orange juice and sour, along with a lime squeeze, round it out. Its Stonecrest Fusion spotlights 2 ounces of Finlandia vodka that's been steeped with fresh blackberries and pineapple for 72 hours.

BOMB'S AWAY
Matt Coggin, general manager at Sala (1186 N. Highland Ave. N.E., Virginia-Highland), is tapping into his inner collegian by adding the Mexican Car Bomb to the menu. Half of a bottle of Negro Modelo beer is poured into a pint glass. Three-quarters of an ounce each of Patron XO and Espolon Añejo tequilas splash together in a shot glass. The shot is then dropped into the beer. Sounds like the liquid embodiment of a wild night in Tijuana.
MOVIE MIXTURES
Just about any special event is a good reason for a themed cocktail, and the Oscars are no exception. Beverage-style props are given to Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic with the Aviator, a shaken and strained mix of Malibu rum, Stoli vodka and lime juice. The Finding Neverland is a combination of childhood whimsy and mischief with sour apple liqueur, Sauza tequila and a splash of ginger ale. The Ray is basically a creamless version of a White Russian, with Kahlúa and vodka on the rocks.
