SPIRITS

Tootside Roll

Published on: 09/22/2005

CANDY CRAVINGS

Grocery store aisles are already filled with mountains of candy for Halloween. But, hey, that's a month away. In the meantime, a certain confection might find a home as a cocktail garnish. Kahlua is promoting a recipe it swears tastes just like a Tootsie Roll: a mix of Kahlua and orange juice. And one of those tiny wrapped candies can stick right on the side of the martini glass.

CUSTOM COCKTAIL

Does sipping something called an Old Fashioned seem to clash with your personality? Vox vodka's official Web site (www.voxvodka.com) has a feature that claims to customize a cocktail based on your style and taste. The Cocktail Composer asks a series of multiple choice questions like your favorite type of pasta and your secret ambition. Spirits gave it a try and up popped a shot (it obviously knows we cut to the chase). The result was one part peach schnapps and the other part Vox green apple vodka.

THAT STINGS

Fall football is serious business for the South, and that usually includes serious partying. Henry Santo, director of New York's Sign of the Dove restaurant, crafted a cocktail with a name well suited for some Georgia Tech revelry. The Jack Daniel's Stinger (found at www.jackdaniels.com) blends 1 1/2 ounces of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey with an ounce of white creme de menthe. It's poured over crushed ice in a snifter glass.
