Damiana Salty Dog

HEART STILL THUMPING?

If you'd like to keep Valentine's Day going just a little longer, try Damiana, a Mexican liqueur. The Mayans used the damiana herb for love connections. The folks behind the liqueur are banking on that history, selling their libation in a bottle shaped like a pregnant woman and modeled after the Incan god of fertility. Since damiana grows in Baja California, Mexico, it's popular out West. But it can be found online, too, at sites such as www.internetwines.com.

Supercross racing is at the Georgia Dome on Feb. 25. Spirits is hoping the racers leave the crashing and burning to the Ca-Boom cocktail. The Drinksmixer Web site (www.drinksmixer.com) suggests this pairing of vanilla vodka and Diet Coke with Lime.

SEEING GREEN

Earlier this month, Johnnie Walker held a scotch tasting at the AmericasMart in downtown Atlanta. Guests got a lesson in the brand's different labels. But the one getting the biggest push was Johnnie Walker Green Label. Only malt whiskies are used in this one, including 15 mature Speyside and Island malts. Richard Nichols, vice president of the brand's scotch, said customer demand was so high that they moved up the U.S. launch by a year. To make it by Christmas of 2005, Nichols and company had to ship the first several thousand cases by air freight.
