SPIRITS

Late night libations

Published on: 09/27/2007

On Thursday nights, the Globe (75 Fifth St. N.W., Atlanta) goes "live." Beginning at 9 p.m., its Live Lounge features a special menu, and DJ Bigg H starts spinning platters at 10 p.m. Guests slurp on signature Globe cocktails like the Pimm's Cup. The British beverage begins with Pimm's No. 1, a gin-based drink infused with aromatics, and is mixed with a muddled mass of lime, orange and mint. For the big finish, it gets a ginger ale topper and a cucumber slice garnish.

HOT, HOT, HOT

The new Hot Stix (570 Main St., Atlanta) in Lindbergh City Center has something cooking, and we're not just talking about its stir-fry kitchen. There's action behind the bar, too, including no shortage of specialty cocktails. From the PB&J (Castries peanut rum and raspberry liqueur) to the Blueberry Martini (house-made, blueberry-infused vodka), both the names and ingredients bloom with color. On top of the pile is the Hot Stix Hooch. Vanilla vodka, rum and banana liqueur mix it up with pineapple juice and coconut milk.

THE ROOT OF IT ALL

Enjoy a root beer with your slice of pizza? So do we. But at Slice (1025 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta; 925 Garrett St., Atlanta), we like our root beer from the bar. Its Root Beer Martini fakes the flavor of the time-honored soda with Galliano liqueur, Kahlúa and vodka.
