TV Best bets for November

“30 Rock”, “Real Housewives of Atlanta”, “50 Cent”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Monday, November 03, 2008

The political campaign draws to a close, ending what has been probably the most intriguing on-going (and important) soap opera of our generation.

But in fiction land, guest stars abound from Whoopi Goldberg (“Life on Mars”) to Jane Seymour (“My Name is Earl”) to Lily Tomlin (“Desperate Housewives”).

If Diddy can have a reality show (or three), why not 50 Cent mentoring entrepreneurs?

MONDAY

“Deal or No Deal” 8 p.m. NBC — Amazing but this show is now up to 200 episodes and it’s catering to the A.D.D. set by forcing contestants to decide whether to “deal” or not within 20 seconds after the banker’s offer.

“The Big Bang Theory” 8 p.m. CBS — Some gal actually likes Sheldon. Huh?

“Dancing With the Stars” 8 p.m. ABC — Cloris Leachman is gone. Long live Cloris!

“First Class All the Way” 9 p.m. Bravo (new series) — Sara Ryan-Duffy slavishly caters to rich travel-agency clients.

“Raising the Bar” 10 p.m. Bravo (season finale) — Roz and Jerry try to clear the name of a firefighter (“ER” alum Sharif-Atkins)

TUESDAY

The major networks and news channels are all over the presidential election. Here are suggestions for non-politicos out there:

“90210” 8 p.m. the CW — Annie’s peeved at the ‘rents so she holds a huge bash.

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” 9 p.m. Bravo — Expect more friction as Kim continues to try to be friends with Sheree, causing NeNe much heartache.

“Paris Hilton’s New BFF” 10 p.m. MTV — This show begs the question why anybody would want to be her BFF.

“The Shield” 10 p.m. FX — Vic’s got problems on the homefront thanks to his estranged wife’s actions.

“Frank TV” 11 p.m. TBS — Frank Caliendo is doing a political-themed skit show in which he plays John McCain and a fellow cast member does Barack Obama. Don’t expect any timely jokes because this was taped months ago.

WEDNESDAY

“Dancing With the Stars” 8 p.m. ABC — Thanks to the election, “Stars” results were delayed a day. Maurice Greene and Susan Lucci are the likeliest next ones to be on the chopping block.

“Bones” 8 p.m. Fox — A sculptor finds his own skull crushed.

“Medal of Honor” 9 p.m. GPB — Alfre Woodard narrates a docu about the medal’s history by profiling some of its recipients.

“Til Death” 9 p.m., 9:30 p.m. Fox — This show takes a short hiatus but for now, enjoy Kevin Nealon’s arrival as part of a couple that hits it off with Eddie (but not Joy.)

THURSDAY

“My Name is Earl” 8 p.m. NBC — Jane Seymour, who always does great cameos, guest-stars as herself.

“CSI” 9 p.m. CBS — Gil’s S&M pal Lady Heather is back!

“30 Rock” 9:30 p.m. NBC — Oprah is hilarious as a guest star opposite Tina Fey.

“50 Cent: The Money and the Power” 10 p.m. MTV — If Diddy can have a reality show (or three), why not 50 Cent mentoring entrepreneurs?

“Life on Mars” 10:01 p.m. ABC — Whoopi Goldberg guests. No, that’s not a reason to turn the channel. This is a great show!

FRIDAY

“Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” 8 p.m. Fox — Gene Simmons tries to show off his superior intellect (as opposed to his superior tongue).

“Elvis Mitchell: Under the Influence” 8 p.m. TCM — Edward Norton gabs enthusiastically about his influences such as Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep.

“Don’t Forget the Lyrics” 9 p.m. Fox — En Vogue reunites, which makes many people pine for a Color Me Badd reunion, too. Or not.

“Survivorman” 9 p.m. Discovery (season debut) — Survivorman hits the Sierra Nevadas.

WEEKEND TELEVISION

“iGo to Japan” 8 p.m. Saturday. Nickelodeon — Carly and Sam go to Japan to win an iWeb award. Good Charlotte pops by.

“Doctor Who” 9 p.m. Saturday. BBC America — Kylie Minogue guests as a waitress on a doomed ship.

“John Edward Cross Country” 10 p.m. Saturday. WE — Another blast from the past: Jasmine Guy gets a reading.

“Mail Order Bride” 9 p.m. Hallmark — Set in the 1880s, Daphne Zuniga plays a con artist.

“It’s Me or the Dog” 9 p.m. Animal Planet (new series) — Atlanta’s own Victoria Stillwell hosts a show to help families deal with unruly dogs.

“Ruby” 8 p.m. Style (new series) — This intriguing series features a Savannah native’s efforts to lose weight (from a peak point of 477 pounds!)

“Desperate Housewives” 9 p.m. ABC — Lily Tomlin guests stars as Mrs. McCluskey’s sister, who figures out what secretive Dave is up to.

“Summer Heights High” 10:30 p.m. HBO (new series) — This amusing eight-part mockumentary features Chris Lilley playing three very different high school characters. This import is from Australia.
