Mojitos at the Mitchell House

FRANKLY, MY DEAR ...

It's hard to imagine "Gone With the Wind" scribe Margaret Mitchell sipping on anything other than a mint julep. But on Aug. 24, the Midtown Mixer brings mojitos to the Margaret Mitchell House (990 Peachtree St., Atlanta). Admission is free, and guests can score mojitos and other libations at the cash bar. Mojitos Restaurant & Bar provides the snacks, while popular local blues act Delta Moon brings it home on the front lawn.

COCKTAILS IN PARADISE

As summer slinks away, some folks are hanging on to the season for dear life. What better place to do so than Cheeseburger In Paradise (1230 Ashford Crossing, Atlanta)? This Jimmy Buffett-endorsed bar and eatery stays tropical all year with drinks like the Electric Lizard, a blend of coconut rum, melon liqueur, lime juice, sweet and sour, and a Sprite topper. And don't miss the award-winning Cheeseburger in Paradise, a frozen drink with one layer each of Rum Runner, margarita, strawberry daiquiri and piña colada topped with blue curacao. All cocktails include a garnish of animals made out of fruit.

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT

Rick Sugarman, mix master at the River Room (4403 Northside Parkway, Atlanta), has a common thread running through his restaurant's specialty martini list. Each cocktail is christened after a particular river, and its ingredients give a nod to each locale. Named after the Balas River in Mexico, the Balas-tini is a top-shelf margarita martini with orange juice and Sprite. The cloudy waters of the Hooch get props in the Chattahoochee Mudslide, a mix of chocolate vodka, cream, butterscotch schnapps and chocolate syrup.

Mojito (from www.drinksmixer.com)
3 fresh mint sprigs
2 tsp. sugar
3 tbsp. fresh lime juice
1 1/2 oz. light rum
Club soda
Coat the inside of a tall glass by muddling a portion of the mint with a fork. Add sugar and lime juice, then stir. Top with ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with chilled club soda. Garnish with a lemon slice and mint leaves.
